In this episode I'm talking with the inspiring, Darren Mort, 2019’s and 2020’s Barrister of the Year Finalist and 2019’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year.
After serving 30 years on the Family Law Bar Association and being a member of the Family Violence Task force Committee reporting directly to the Royal Commission, Darren was inspired to start producing books and films that highlighted some of our society's deep issues and provide some of the forgotten victims, the children, a voice.
In 2017, Darren produced Degree of Separation, a film that tells the story of Troy as he navigates his life under the ever-present cloud of domestic violence. He also Authored ‘Tommy & Tiger Terry’, a book that tells the story of a separated household from the eyes of a little boy called Tommy. A compelling book for children and parents and a useful resource for any separated family to assist children to make sense of it all. The book recently Premiered as a short film titled TOMMY. A powerful, raw and beautifully produced film. TOMMY has already received 10 international awards since its recent Premiere.
In our chat Darren shares about he's own personal experience, growing up in a home where domestic and physical violence were ever present and how he has chosen to continue to serve the community by using the power of the arts to give children a voice.
It was a privilege and an honour to chat with Darren. I hope you enjoy it.
