Hello everyone and welcome to the Prevalis Podcast, I am your host Marcus Moore, and today we will be diving deep into our first episode, and I have to say, this episode is going to set the stage for Prevalis, and you all are what makes it happen, so if you haven’t yet, give us a listen, and hit the subscribe button to get updates on artist development, tour management, and performance tips from industry experts.

No matter where you are on your creative path, Prevalis will help you succeed, and what better way to show this than to focus on what we are all about, and that is developing artists to their maximum potential.

Today, we will be talking briefly about Artist Development, and why it’s vital for success in any industry, but specifically, in the music industry.

So, for those of you who may be just entering into the music scene, or even seasoned musicians and artists who are stepping back into the industry, there is one specific thing we need to address upfront before we begin our deep dive.

For the past 20 years, the music industry has shifted from a physical workspace filled with top level kingpin executives pushing out shocking, edgy, controversial content, to where we currently are which is a much more open sourced, collaborative industry built on influence and affiliate networking.

If you are creating content for a time that is not forward in motion and progressive, you are really selling yourself short and you are losing the potential to capitalize on and expand your music to a larger audience. This is not to say there is not a niche for that specific genre, but largely speaking, this industry is built on innovation and new ideas.

So, to keep yourself in line with your needs as a developing artist, my first recommendation is that you use progressive and inventive thought to drive yourself forward in your songwriting framework. With that said not everyone is built to be a creative powerhouse. I’ll say it again…not everyone is built to be a creative powerhouse. What does that mean?

Well, in simple terms, this means delegation. Your producer is not your engineer. Your engineer is not your artistic development coach. Your songwriter is not your instrumentalist. Listen, I have been working in this industry for more than a decade, and there is no artist, to date that has ever made a multimillion dollar discography solely off their own merits, marketing and skill. It never happens. It never has, and it never will.

Everyone has a producer, an engineer, songwriter, marketing advisor, videographer, director, network analyst, CPA, the list goes on. Listen to me very carefully, if you are a broke, starving artist playing shows in local venues, and have never toured nationally, I highly doubt that you have the resources to operate an entire business directly off your own merit.

Stop for a moment and think of every single company on the face of the planet that makes enough to employ other people. How many people work at that company? You understand?

The key to making massive moves and spreading your music and influence is not being a one man show, but networking with a massive amount of people, and letting your natural talent and charisma shine through so that others can vouch for you. Music is a social channel of business, not a logistics channel of business. This means that if you want to succeed, you need a solid social network comprised of people that validate you and your talent.

So you might be asking how do you even start something like that? What if I’m an introvert? What if I have social anxiety? Listen to learn more!
