SHOW NOTES

Many people have a point in their life when they realize that the default models of the world we're taught in the West don't quite work. But this is the beginning not the end - how can we find new models of understanding without getting stuck in a dead-end? Examples abound of cults, rabbit holes, conspiracy theories and other cognitive traps. These can feel temporarily like finding the discrepancy in our worldview but be no more than swapping one incomplete model for another.
We explore how our sense of identity is constructed in response to our experience, how this can be threatened and the different ways that can shake out. By exploring what can go wrong and how, we provide some practical tips to navigate topics outside of the mainstream consensus more safely. We briefly look at a range of hazards which confront us - from dysfunctional models to psychosis - and how we can try to avoid these.
We also discuss the 20 year US military Remote Viewing program, what sets this discipline apart from other psi practices and how this can help - and hinder - our understanding. Can we trust the data?
