Teresa Bruce’s new memoir, The Drive: Searching for Lost Memories on the Pan-American Highway is due out June 13th from Seal Press, an imprint of Perseus Books, a Hachette Book Company
The book as many readers have said is “unputdownable” –it is a both an exciting travelogue and memoir that tells the story of how Bruce revisits a journey down the Pan American Highway to Central and South America. She first took that momentous journey when she was just seven years old, now in her thirties, (now with a husband and a dog) she has time to reflect on that first trip and fully take the measure of not just the exotic landscape and wildlife but the dangers that daily confront them as they try to retrace the steps of that first momentous journey. Bruce is a gifted prose writer and you will enjoy seeing the world through her eyes as she travels in a rickety camper with her old dog and husband Bruce.
It is hard to disagree with the book’s blurb that The Drive represents “travel writing at its best, combining moments of deep heartbreak with unimaginable joy over a panoply of unforgettable settings.”
We cannot wait to read Bruce’s next book. She is someone to watch!
