I like to listen to these podcasts while I'm at work. It helps me stay inspired/focused and motivated, so when I leave the office I can attack the rest of my day with a championship mindset.
Stein's book is one of which I bought directly after previewing the foreword given by Jay Bilas. After reading that, I knew that this was someone who operated in my wheelhouse and I had to be a part of learning more about his perspective on development. In the book, Stein captures some key concepts on the elements necessary for effective development of high performance teams, coaches as well as individual athletes. Stein outlines this in such a clear and concise manner that it is obvious to see that he has been around this level of play for many years. His emphasis focuses on how to effectively create, manage and sustain such practices while having any level of experience; be it high school, collegiate or pro. The gem behind this foundation is that each dynamic of the team/organization, is aware of what criteria on which they should constantly be evaluating themselves. This is concept which holds both a long-term supplemental and self-sustaining framework of accountability for each of the areas as well. Meaning if your personal game/team unity/coaching perspective seems to be out of sync for some reason, you can revert back to the five basic principles of your role each time concern arises for more clarity on what areas require fine tuning. Similar frameworks can be seen in programs like Coach K's. He may be qualified enough to be noted as being the originator to the concept of running your program with a higher degree of moral accountability than many at the start of his career. Though John Wooden was a man who operated through moral standards, values and principles as a man first, and a coach second. Well... There ya go, Stein's book and it's principle based leadership being compared to that of the most well respected coaches in the history of the sport. That's the key element to producing top level teams and talent... Standards. Very high ones with little to no wiggle room on all 5 principles. If you're falling in one area, it will be noticed and remedied much more readily than those in teams who do not operate heavily on such frameworks. All in all, I would say that in spite of the twinges of motivation I did receive from the material, when I saw Stein speak on the same content, I knew that delivering the message in person or at a live event definitely had my money. He has the presence to be delivering this content in a much more contagious atmosphere. His energy is both genuine and passionate on a level perfect for the public speaking circuit. Keep it coming Stein... We're always waiting to be wowed. ~Posey
Alan has great insight on what it takes to raise your game to the next level. I highly recommend reading any of his books or listen to his podcast.
Point blank, Alan is ahead of his time. His ability to look at the "sum total" of any "real life situation" and then decentralize each specific component in an effort to truly understand why outcomes occur, is simply amazing and oh so very appreciated. Alan is unique in his uncanny ability to tell the truth as he sees it, in a manner which informs each listener without degrading ones sense of self. The versatility of his language is applicable to each and every individual whom is truly committed towards "Raising Their Game" wherever focused improvements are sought and desired. Enter at your own risk and check your ego at the door, as those whom do not want to change for the better need not apply as the results which ensue from consistent listening flows osmosisly in a pattern which allows one to effortlessly adopt a better way of both thinking and therefore living. Thank you Alan for whom you are and what you do as your gift of gab could not come at a better time for each individual and the society we comprise.
