I

4:08

hope

4:08

you

4:08

had

4:08

a

4:08

wonderful

4:08

kickoff

4:08

to

4:08

the

4:08

holiday

4:08

season

4:08

that

4:08

you

4:08

had

4:08

a

4:08

great

4:17

Thanksgiving. I'll be very honest with you.

4:20

I missed y'all.

4:20

I didn't necessarily miss recording this podcast.

4:24

It felt great to have the week off.

4:26

Not that I was like sitting around doing nothing, like as I think you all know I'm in the middle of, of a massive merchandise drop.

4:33

I usually only do the ratchet and respectable drops once a year.

4:36

I spent most of my week off sitting in the middle of the floor, packing boxes, but no complaints.

4:43

I also did get a chance on, on Thanksgiving day.

4:47

I forced myself not to work. I worked right up until midnight on Thursday.

4:52

I was like closed, closed the computer, shut down ship station.

4:55

Do not print anything, do not pack anything.

4:58

Like do not work. It was like the hardest thing I've ever done.

5:01

I was like, oh my God, I'm a legit workaholic.

5:04

But actually like what I do, but actually like a break from what I do.

5:09

But on Thursday I did next to nothing.

5:11

I laid in bed until like a good noon.

5:14

I went to my friend Brianna's house. She's in Atlanta girl.

5:16

She cook her ass off for Thanksgiving.

5:20

I ain't putting no vegetables on my plate. I got macaroni and cheese, shrimp scampi and mashed potatoes.

5:25

I did two services and I ate cake and I felt really good about my life choices drink a bunch of champagne because I was still scared of wine.

5:34

My friend, Mark Keith, he had me pick up there's this place near my house called woods spoon.

5:39

It's a Brazilian restaurant, black owned.

5:41

It has this amazing sangria.

5:44

Now I've eaten at the restaurant. The staying greener at the restaurant is good, but the Curry I was staying in Korea.

5:50

I don't know what they put me in that it's so good.

5:52

But my keys had me pick up bottles for him to take to the house.

5:55

And so I had stayed in Greece and champagne.

5:57

I fell asleep on my friend's couch, watching something sunset, not Shahs of sunset.

6:04

It's a bunch of tall, skinny, white ladies who still real estate selling sunset.

6:08

So I started watching that from season one on Netflix.

6:11

And I was like, why are you introducing me to this show? Because now I'm hooked.

6:14

It's just enough rich, white, crazy to like, get me interested.

6:17

I love rich white people shenanigans. They live in a whole different world.

6:20

And I don't just mean money. I mean, just, just a whole different world.

6:24

It's fascinating. The, yeah, but that was my Thanksgiving and it was really good.

6:28

And then I came home later that night.

6:31

I want to say like 1130 and literally sat at my desk and waited for it to turn midnight so I can start working again.

6:37

I have problems.

6:40

I've watched some good TV, but before we get into that, we have some other things, some housekeeping things that we need to talk about.

6:45

One, I told y'all last episode, but this was a week ago.

6:49

If you want ratchet and respectable Merck, you need to go to the website right now and go get it.

6:55

The logo hoodies only exist in a small.

6:57

Now the logo crew necks only existing, two X, everything else is gone.

7:03

I told y'all, I bought a bunch of stuff, thinking it was going to last through the winter, like till February.

7:10

And it's gone.

7:12

It's almost gone in a week. I think there's like 10, two Xs.

7:16

That's only because the manufacturer sent me some more.

7:19

Literally yesterday we were down to one.

7:21

My printer had extra green blanks, so they printed them up for me.

7:25

Cut the check. I got a bunch of largest and yesterday cause they had extra blue blanks at the factory.

7:31

Blanks are, are blank.

7:33

T-shirts sweatshirts, hoodies, like literally just like the blank shirt that hasn't been printed on yet.

7:38

But he had extra blue sitting around the factory.

7:40

So I had to print those up for me in a large, because those went really fast.

7:44

But the cut, the check stuff is almost gone.

7:46

Green crew next, the podcast, green crew necks with ratchet and respectable in white, almost gone to shut the fuck up is free and pink almost gone.

7:57

I think I had made maybe five t-shirts left and maybe five hoodies, white and gold ratchet and respectable.

8:03

The crew necks are gone in small.

8:05

For sure. I have more hoodies than I do crew next.

8:08

I think we still have those in every size.

8:10

And then the purple the interested men act interested.

8:13

There are some of those. There's a decent number of those left.

8:15

I know purple is a very particular color. People feel very strongly about liking it or not liking it.

8:20

So that's fine. But if you want anything other than the purple, I will highly suggest to you that you, that you pause this podcast and that you go get your merchandise and then you come back as a bonus.

8:32

I put the site on sale for most items on Friday.

8:36

So black Friday through cyber Monday, there was a sale and it was supposed to end last night.

8:41

I'm recording this on Tuesday at 9:45 AM.

8:45

I was going to close the sale last night, but I realized I hadn't done a podcast in a week.

8:50

So people who only listened to the podcast who would be obviously most interested in the Merck may not follow me on social media.

8:56

And so may not know about the sale. So I wanted to make sure that the faithful listeners had access to the sale as well.

9:02

So I'll leave that up. What's today.

9:04

Tuesday I'll keep the sale on until at least Friday does that work?

9:10

Okay. Now, now go to the site and get your Merck and then, and then come back.

9:14

We'll be here. I'm not going anywhere. Just pause me.

9:16

I'll be here. We have some not so good news this week.

9:19

Unfortunately, Virgil Abloh passed away from cancer.

9:23

Cancer of the heart is what I've read.

9:26

He was a black man, his early forties, and he was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton.

9:31

Men's wear collection since 2018.

9:34

He was also the founder of off-white.

9:37

You remember maybe like a year or two ago when everyone was wearing those yellow belts that almost looked like a tape measure.

9:43

That's him. He had a long list of brand collaborations.

9:47

My favorites are the one with, with Nike.

9:49

There was this gray Jordan shoe. I think it was a Jordan three.

9:53

That was just like beyond. I just could not bring myself to pay that much money for sneakers.

9:58

And since his passing, I go on stock X to look at sneaker prices.

10:01

The prices of his shoe collaborations have skyrocketed.

10:04

Since he passed away. He did a lot.

10:06

I remember there was like, there were like off-white rugs.

10:09

Even if you think you're not familiar with his work, you're familiar with his work.

10:13

Okay. Remember Amanda Gorman, the young poet Laureate when she was on the cover of Vogue and she had on the, the quote unquote African print dress really beautiful, which I don't know why Louis Vuitton never released that print in anything else.

10:26

I'm like, can you put this on like a speedy, a carrier, a duffle do this for the people that was Virgil.

10:33

It was an original print. The first quote and unquote African print.

10:37

And I'm saying quote, unquote, African print, because there's actually a real name for it.

10:41

Just off the top of my head. I don't know what it is.

10:43

It's not kente cloth. That's a very specific thing.

10:46

It's not that, but that print is his.

10:48

And it's part of the official Louis Vuitton.

10:51

I don't know volt of designs now, but he wasn't public about his, his diagnosis, which I completely understand why.

10:58

So his passing came as a complete shock to most people.

11:02

I will say this. You can tell a lot about how people lived by how they are remembered when they die.

11:09

When the news came that he passed, it was up and down.

11:11

My timeline, everyone had a story.

11:13

Everyone had a picture. Everyone had a rest in peace, even people who didn't know him, but just like enjoyed his, his work, his creative output.

11:22

You know, they don't do that for everyone. Cause some people die and you don't really hear much about it.

11:26

He like wrote his life until the wheels rolled off.

11:29

And one of my friends described it as he died empty.

11:32

And she was like, if that's the way to go.

11:34

But I would guess that, you know, he got his diagnosis two years ago and he was like balls to the wall.

11:40

Like I'm, I'm doing it all while I'm here.

11:43

And he did. I saw the Louis Vuitton is doing a tribute for him.

11:48

Did I read that? I'm looking it up right now? Cause I'm like I saw it, but it's not in my notes.

11:54

Yes. Louis Vuitton is doing a tribute show for him in Miami it's it's art Basel week in Miami.

12:00

I think it starts literally tomorrow. I wanted to go, but I had a work assignment.

12:04

It's keeping me away, but this is what I'm reading.

12:07

Louis Vuitton will pay tribute to the life and legacy of a creative genius with the presentation of his spring, summer 2022 collection in Miami on November 30th.

12:16

So that's actually today. I wonder if there's a live stream, 5:30 PM Eastern standard time.

12:22

This is from Louis Vuitton CEO.

12:24

It is with profound sorrow that I learned with the passing of Virgil Abloh.

12:28

I wonder if his bosses knew because he just got a promotion earlier this year.

12:31

He says Virgil was not only a friend, great collaborator, creative genius, visionary and disruptor, but also one of the best cultural communicators of our time as a devoted supporter of his community, through his charities and passions, he was an eternal optimist who believed anything was possible in this same spirit.

12:48

We at Louis Vuitton would proudly continue to celebrate his legacy with a final show in Miami per his wishes.

12:55

Just a quick note about the eternal optimism.

12:58

You know, this man didn't even have a fashion degree.

13:00

I was reading up on him. He's first generation American parents are from Ghana and he had an engineering degree, which I was like, I mean, I guess there's a design brain thing happening there.

13:11

I kind of think of engineering as less creative and more technical.

13:15

But you know, clearly the man was creative, but I was like really?

13:18

He had no fashion degree and ended up like running men's wear and Louis Vuitton.

13:22

It's like, sir, sir, you couldn't tell him he didn't have a fashion degree.

13:26

I just assumed, I just assumed that such a loss, such a loss, totally gone too soon.

13:35

I'll echo the chairman of Louis Vuitton who deepest thoughts for his wife and children.

13:39

He had to parents, family and the entire community that was touched by his greatness.

13:46

So sad. So sad in less serious news.

13:50

Tiffany and common broke up.

13:52

Tiffany Haddish. I feel bad, but I'm like, did you not see that coming?

13:56

And not because of him, not because of her.

13:59

Look, I'm gonna say this. And I'm only going to say it because people are assholes when women are in this situation.

14:04

And I think what's good for the goose is good for the Gander.

14:07

Oh my God. I think I'm turning into my grandmother.

14:09

That's something she would say common can not keep a woman to save his life and he'd be dating some bad chicks too.

14:15

Like you've had cream of the crop, the leading ladies in their field at the height of their fame.

14:21

Why you can't keep no woman, man, Erica, he was walking around in crochet pants with Erica.

14:26

Still couldn't keep Erica Serena that's that's.

14:30

That was a good look. You couldn't keep Serena.

14:33

Angela rye, the height of her fame.

14:36

You can't keep Angela bad shit.

14:39

You couldn't keep her either.

14:41

Tiffany Haddish. He ain't go get broke.

14:43

Tiffany Haddish. He got post girls' trip, career exploding, Tiffany Haddish.

14:48

And she hosted like a network show right now.

14:51

You couldn't keep Tiffany either, bro, it's you?

14:53

The common denominator is you.

14:57

I just, I have my theories on why he can't keep a lady.

15:01

I think it's more than just commitment issues.

15:03

I suspect I'm totally speculating in the dark.

15:07

And I'm saying this based on some nice men that I know, but I also know women that they've dated.

15:13

The dispute is never that they're not nice.

15:16

The dispute is never that they're not genuine the complaint.

15:20

And again, I don't know common.

15:23

I have no firsthand knowledge of anyone saying this about common.

15:27

I'm just saying the Dick is trash.

15:29

That's what I think it is. I could be entirely wrong.

15:32

Maybe he's laying amazing pipe.

15:34

I don't think so though. I don't think so.

15:37

And I always get the impression that the women leave him.

15:39

I don't think he's leaving the women.

15:41

I think it's, I think it's his Dick.

15:44

I don't know if it don't work. Like it can't stay up or he can't keep it up.

15:47

Maybe a small, maybe the stroke name is trash.

15:49

Maybe not open to suggestions. Maybe he ain't got no mouse skills.

15:52

I don't know. But I think that's what it is.

15:55

I know that's a terrible thing to say. I hope it's not the case.

15:58

I hope I'm just dead ass wrong. And just, you know, it's, it's a case of grown people, just, you know, being in relationships and you know, it just, it runs its course.

16:06

And it goes to an end. I just know that when this sort of situation happens with women, people be like, what's wrong with her?

16:12

That's what people say about Halle Berry. They'd be like, well, she had three husbands in and could none of them work as beautiful as she is like, what's wrong with her?

16:19

I think she might have a bad picker. Cause when people say stuff like that, I'm like, well, which one do you think Holly berries should have stayed with the one who beat her?

16:25

The one with the sex addiction or the one who had like a violent temper and beat up the baby daddy.

16:31

Like which one? I think Holly might have a bad picker or some bad luck, but I respect that she gets out of a crazy situation.

16:37

She ain't gonna sit up in no foolishness for too long.

16:40

That's a life skill within itself.

16:42

She got a new dude. Now they be quiet about their love.

16:44

And I think that's the best way we see them pop up together every once in a while.

16:48

But we don't see their, their day to day interactions.

16:50

I think that's one of the secrets to making it work is keeping folks out your damn business.

16:54

The job watch Holly's film on Netflix bruised.

16:58

I haven't seen it. I'm so behind on so much TV, I went to see my lady about my lady yesterday.

17:03

And we always have like the best chats when she's like, you know, plucking my feathers.

17:08

But she was talking to me about Bruce and she was like, oh, it was so good.

17:10

This is really highly at her best. I really enjoyed it.

17:13

And I was like, really? I've been hearing good things about it, but I just haven't had a chance to watch it.

17:18

I'm not caught up on anything.

17:19

That's not true. I watched that Kevin Hart, Wesley Snipes mini series.

17:23

That was really good, but like I'm not caught up on all American.

17:26

I'm not caught up on the bachelorette, I guess.

17:29

In fairness though, this whole season, the bachelorette hasn't been appointment TV for me.

17:33

Like I very much liked Michelle when she was on, when she was a contested on the last season of the bachelor or the season of the bachelor with the first black guy, but carrying a whole show, she don't have a lot of personality to carry a whole show.

17:48

It hasn't been the most interesting. I'm just aiming to support the black girl.

17:52

I thought we got off track. I wasn't supposed to be talking about TV yet.

17:55

I wanted to talk about our good black news.

17:58

There's been a bunch, but there's two things that I really want to mention because they just made me like black girl proud.

18:03

I saw Rihanna was awarded in Barbados.

18:06

Let me pull this up.

18:08

She was honored at the national hero of Barbados.

18:12

This happened, I think this happened yesterday.

18:16

I'm reading on CNN. This finger was honored Monday.

18:19

So yesterday in her native Barbados, during its presidential inauguration, which served to mark the country becoming a Republic, the Barbadian prime minister Mia Motley told the crowd on behalf of a grateful nation, but in even prouder people, we therefore present to you the designee for national hero of Barbados ambassador, Robyn, Rihanna.

18:42

Why am I tearing up?

18:45

Oh my gosh.

18:47

Oh my gosh. I'm really sitting here crying.

18:49

Like I, a tear just fell out my eye.

18:51

Oh my God.

18:53

The designee for national hero of Barbados ambassador, Robyn, Rihanna, Fenty.

18:59

Oh, I think I'm like, I've always been super proud of Rihanna just to come from like a little island, like Barbados and then become like this global superstar.

19:12

And I thought this way, even before she dropped Fenty and you know, and then flipped her net worth into like over a billion dollars.

19:19

It's just an amazing story of triumph and perseverance.

19:24

I also think of, and I don't, and I don't bring this up lightly cause I do believe folks should be able to like move on from shit.

19:32

But I also think of that horrible photo when she was assaulted by her then boyfriend and that photo leaked.

19:40

And it was clearly one of the lowest moments of her life and it's broadcast around the world and everyone sees her battered face.

19:50

It was such a low moment through no fault of her own.

19:53

She didn't beat herself. She's not responsible for what her boyfriend at the time did, but to rise the way that she has from that moment, that would have broken some people and it didn't break her.

20:09

And it just makes me really, really proud of her in her success all the way through.

20:15

But especially since, but especially since that incident, the prime minister went on to say, oh my God, I'm not going to be able to get through reading this.

20:24

Oh, okay.

20:26

Hold on.

20:29

The prime minister went on to say, quote, may you continue to shine?

20:33

Like a diamond?

20:37

Whew. Oh, fuck it. And bring honor to your nation by your works, by your actions and to do credit wherever you shall go, oh my God, I'm going to have to like pause this damn podcast.

20:48

Like, oh, I'm about to sob.

20:51

Oh my gosh.

20:54

Oh, I'm clearly like affected by this and I'm not sure why.

20:58

I'm like, I need to call my freaking therapist.

21:00

I got to move on to the next topic because I'm not going to be able to make it through this when sorry.

21:03

I wanted to say more about Rihanna. I think she's amazing.

21:06

I think she's dope. Congratulations. Rihanna. I got to move on just because I'm like weeping.

21:12

What the fuck is wrong with me?

21:14

Oh, this ain't gonna be no better.

21:17

Oh. And by the way, I'm completely sober again.

21:19

It's like nine something in the morning.

21:21

All I had was coffee and water.

21:24

Oh

21:24

the

21:24

soul

21:24

train

21:24

awards

21:28

happened. I did not get a chance to watch y'all know.

21:31

I don't have like regular TV. Like I gotta know what's happening.

21:34

And then I got to find a place to live streaming or, you know, my site where I could watch live TV on east coast time to avoid spoilers.

21:41

The only thing I know that happened at the soul train awards was that Tisha Campbell and to Sheena Arnold hosted, which I feel like they've hosted stuff together before there they've been like besties since they were teenagers.

21:52

And you know, obviously they did Martin together. They have amazing chemistry.

21:55

I know silk Sonic performed. I'm obsessed with them.

21:59

I know Maxwell received an award, the living legend award, not just a regular award, but the living legend award.

22:05

That's very important. I saw Ashanti received the lady of soul award.

22:09

Jasmine Sullivan won album of the year for hotels, which I think is much deserved when hotels came out.

22:15

Y'all remember I was talking about it on here.

22:17

And I was like, it's, it's the important album on the level of the miseducation of Lauryn hill that said the Jasmine one album of the year.

22:28

But it's her speech that everyone's been speaking about.

22:32

And I posted this on my Instagram page.

22:35

So she steps to the microphone and she looks timid.

22:39

And she says she has something that she wants to set.

22:41

And some black man, the audience yells out, let them use you because you know how black people be.

22:46

I was like, sir, this is the soul train awards.

22:49

This is not church.

22:51

But go on and do what you do. Your words of encouragement are appreciated.

22:54

And he was loud too. Jasmine heard them, she reacted to it.

22:57

So she gets on the microphone and I'm paraphrasing.

23:00

And she says how she had made a promise to herself to show up for herself.

23:07

And she talks about how she doesn't feel she's at her best.

23:10

She said, quote, momma's been eating during quarantine.

23:13

And when she walked out, like I noticed like, you know, her cheeks were a little fluffier, but I was like, girl, mine too.

23:18

I too have been eating during quarantine last three months.

23:22

I don't know what's going on with me, but I have been challenging, but she steps up.

23:26

And she says that, you know, usually when she didn't feel that she was at her best, she would stay home.

23:32

And I'm like, I can't imagine. I mean, I can, I'm saying, I can't imagine.

23:36

I absolutely can because I've done shit like this, but can you imagine Jazmine Sullivan receiving album of the year?

23:44

Something that has been long overdue and as much deserved Jazmine Sullivan, doesn't get half the accolades and attention and sales that she should.

23:53

But can you imagine? And I'm sure a lot of you can, this really big moment where she like wasn't there because she was like caring about her weight or her appearance.

24:03

And the sad part is I can't imagine because I've done that shit.

24:07

That's the sad part. And I knew it was crazy at the time.

24:10

I don't know, having a negative self image or, or low self-esteem or dealing with depression or whatever it is.

24:17

It's all a mind. Fuck. You really think the craziest shit.

24:21

And it makes complete sense in your head.

24:23

And you don't realize how nutty it is often until you either get therapy or you see somebody else that like you genuinely like love and care about.

24:34

And you'd be like, is this really some shit you think I care about?

24:38

Like dad, Ms. Sullivan walked up or whatever.

24:40

And like I said, like I noticed her cheeks and I was like, oh shit, me too.

24:43

This me too. But she looked beautiful.

24:45

She thinks she's still pretty with the kids say now face card never declines her hair look right.

24:51

Her makeup look right. Her body look right.

24:53

Her outfit was cute.

24:54

Like she looked good.

24:56

And then she got up there talking about how like, you know, she had to talk herself into showing up because she made this promise to herself and I was watching her say it.

25:03

And I was like one like, oh my God, like I just want to give her a hug.

25:07

And then two like, oh, is this how fucking crazy you sound?

25:12

Same is same shit.

25:14

And I appreciate so much. Her vulnerability is saying it because like I posted about it on my page.

25:18

And I was just like, shit, me too says me too.

25:21

And then there was like hundreds of comments where everyone else was like, shit, me too.

25:26

Yo, we do a number on ourselves, man.

25:29

Such a number.

25:32

Oh awesome.

25:34

I'll say this people on line.

25:38

I think in, in our lives it's it's not just the, it's not just the online phenomenon.

25:44

Be mindful of the shit that comes out your mouth about people.

25:47

And I know, I sometimes say crazy shit on here.

25:49

I mean, most of it is ingest unless I'm really like disgusted by someone's behavior.

25:53

I don't really take like too many jabs.

25:55

I'm about to take a couple of the Cuomo brothers at the end of this podcast.

25:58

Cause bro, they wiling right now, but it's not like Jasmine's perception of herself just exist in a bubble like that stuff is in her head for a reason.

26:10

Like when she came out, she was like a thicker girl.

26:12

Her weight has gone up and down publicly.

26:15

It's not like she just up and decided with no context and in a bubble that she wasn't as worthy or she wanted to hide herself.

26:24

It's because she's heard so many negative things said either directly about herself or she's heard them said about other people or even when she lost weight, like people said really ignorant shit to her about her previous appearance.

26:41

And it's a mind fuck when you lose weight and then people tell you how beautiful you are now.

26:49

And if you happen to regain the weight, God forbid you, you regained the weight you lost and a little bit more, you know, very precisely what people think of you, your appearance, your value as a culture.

27:05

We put a lot of value on women, especially, but on weight and appearance and beauty, we have very narrow definitions of beauty.

27:15

And one of the reigning ones is that you have to be very thin even for like black women.

27:20

Like it's a different standard than white women, but it's like this very narrow waist with these giant boobs and a big ass, big ass, big hips.

27:27

It's equally as hard to attain as being like a size two or size zero white woman.

27:34

It's a lot of genetics or starvation and constant working out.

27:39

Some people are willing to do it more so than others or you know, surgery to attain that ideal where we've assigned this level of value based on appearance.

27:49

And when you don't match it, especially like the further you get away from it, people are more vocal and more insulting in the ways in which they find you lacking.

28:01

It's really mean. So I totally understand how she could be like, you know, I thought about not showing up and likely because like she didn't want to hear the commentary online, like about her weight or about her appearance or about her dress.

28:14

And I know people say that like, oh, it's part of it.

28:16

It just comes with celebrity. I mean, it does.

28:19

It does, but it shouldn't, she's not a model.

28:22

She's there to sing. As long as that woman hits her notes, that's her job.

28:25

I just felt bad for her. And I felt bad for me for all the times that like I thought like that and I was like, anyone who gave two shits about me was like, oh, okay.

28:33

She think now I'm just happy you're here.

28:38

We just, we do such a number on ourselves and on others, the Jasmine, I

32:04

I want to talk about king Richard real quick.

32:06

Another bit of TV that I have not bothered to see.

32:09

I told you, I'm like not caught up on anything.

32:11

I miss BMF this weekend, I watched insecure.

32:16

I have not watched king Richard yet.

32:18

Also my waxer. She said she saw king Richard and she thought it was amazing.

32:23

She raved and raved and raved about it. And I do want to see it because I've heard really good things about it.

32:28

I've read the thing pieces about the portrayal of dynamic black fatherhood and how we need to see more movies about black fathers being complicated.

32:37

Yes, but supporting their children. I read really good things about it.

32:40

I saw that the numbers were good for it.

32:42

I just haven't had a chance to watch it.

32:44

That said, that's it my understanding of what the film is.

32:48

And this is based on what I've read and, and other people talking about it that it's the father of Venus and Sabrina and how he guided his daughters into becoming strong girls, strong black girls, confident black girls and guided them into being tennis superstars from a very young age.

33:10

Okay. Since the film has come out and notably, somebody pointed out the other day and was like, where is Richard Williams?

33:16

Cause like there's a whole movie about him.

33:18

And we see Venus and we see Sabrina and we see will.

33:21

And we see the two young actresses that play Venus and Sabrina in the film.

33:24

But like notably where's Richard, I've read that he's battling dementia.

33:28

He's not in great health. So that answers the where's Richard question.

33:34

But I don't think I knew this and I don't know why I would, but it seems, it seems it is so that prior to creating a family that produced Serena and Venus and their sisters, but there was a half sister who did an interview with the son.

33:53

She slammed a film in general and Richard Williams, her father specifically, this sister's name is Sabrina.

34:02

She is 57 years old.

34:05

She points out that the film starts with Richard William and his new wife and their children.

34:11

And she said, it's like nothing happened before she says and has been verified that in the early 1960s, Richard and now 79, I'm reading from insider.com, by the way, Richard was married to Sabrina's late mom, Betty Johnson.

34:28

They were married in Los Angeles and they had five children.

34:33

Sabrina told the son that when she was eight and her younger sister was just eight weeks old, Richard William said he was leaving the house to buy Sabrina a bike.

34:45

And she said he never returned.

34:48

He went on to make a new life with his second wife, Venus and Serena.

34:52

His mother Sabrina says that she has seen her father only a few times since then she told the son truth, be told those girls rose to the top while his other children had to suffer because of the choices my dad made.

35:07

We were raised in poverty after he left.

35:11

She added, he's not the king of the world.

35:14

If you look at him psychologically, it's something he's never achieved.

35:17

Apart from in his head, he's lived only through two of his daughters, forsaking all his children, Sabrina added that she doesn't hold any anger toward her dad.

35:29

And she's attended counseling to deal with her unresolved feelings.

35:33

And I saw a lot of folks very upset about this woman's story.

35:37

Their line of thinking was, you know, here is this story, this movie about this black father who raised and trained these confident girls who went on to be global superstars because of their talent and develop skill as tennis players.

35:57

Okay. They say that this is a positive depiction of black fatherhood, and it's absolutely terrible that this woman would come along and compromise that image because it's so important to see strong present, invested, loving black fathers.

36:14

I don't agree with that. I don't agree with that.

36:17

I think that it's great that the film was made.

36:20

I think it's great that there is a depiction of a good black dad.

36:25

I do think it's necessary. I heard will Smith has killed this role.

36:29

I completely understand why, why Venus and Serena, who I think people would be very open to seeing a movie about Venus and Serena.

36:37

I think it's a deliberate choice that as the executive producers of this film, they opted to essentially pay homage to their father and his influence and his love while he's still alive.

36:51

I think that's a really good and sweet thing to do for your dad.

36:55

And they left out the part about, you know, the first wife, I think that's totally fair for Venus and Serena to do.

37:04

I also think it's totally fair for, for this sister, this half sister Sabrina, to tell her story too.

37:11

I mean, one of the things that occurs is when you put yourself out there for public consumption is people always pop up and say that, you know, this was my role in this story, or this is another part of the story that was left out.

37:24

This happens every single time.

37:26

It's not specific to Richard Williams or specific to a story about black people or black fatherhood.

37:32

If my dad said he was going out to get me a bike or said he was going out for any reason and never came back, I would have been devastated.

37:42

Like your parents just left.

37:44

And I know that's a lot of people's story, but like what the fuck?

37:48

And like the idea that this woman shouldn't speak up in, or she should honor honor some, I don't know, cultural uplift of, of black fathers and put that before her own feelings or before what her actual father did to her fuck that she got every right to tell her story.

38:09

And I'm not mad that she told it.

38:11

I think we often do this thing where we think that only one thing can be true.

38:17

It can be true that Richard Williams was a good father, a good and present and active and caring and invested father in Venus and Serena and they're full siblings.

38:30

And it's also equally as true that he shitted on his first family.

38:36

Both things are entirely true. And I don't know what else to call it.

38:38

I'm shitting on. If you get up one day and just leave or you've, you've only seen your daughter a handful of times in her lifetime.

38:46

What? So I'm glad she's telling her story. I think her truth is just that.

38:49

And it deserves to be heard just as much as Venus and Serena's truth.

38:55

And this movie that they've made about their dead.

38:58

I don't think you have to choose. I think he was a great man.

39:00

I think he was also like a shitty man equally.

39:06

True. You know, it's very hard for me to get a full night's sleep.

44:28

One thing I do want to talk about is these damn Cuomo brothers.

44:33

I thought after Andrew stepped down as governor of New York for his, I don't know sexual, I don't know if it's called abuse, harassment, although grabbing somebody titty on the job, does that sound like that does like that's, that's abusive.

44:47

That's like that's assault.

44:48

CNBC published a story yesterday about Chris Cuomo's involvement and his brothers.

44:57

The word I wanna use is shenanigans, but it goes beyond shenanigans.

45:00

Cause this mofo like it's one thing if was just saying wild shit to people.

45:03

It's another, when you start grabbing up on folks, like I make a distinction there.

45:09

CNBC ran this story.

45:11

The long length that Chris Cuomo was going to to help his brother.

45:15

You remember a story about this came out a while ago where Chris Cuomo was like, yeah, I was on calls with like consultation.

45:22

And maybe that was a bad idea. Cause you know, I host a news show on CNN and I gave him grace there.

45:28

I realized that that's like a tricky gray area, but I was like, yo, it's his brother.

45:32

His brother is involved in his scandal.

45:34

Yes. He's going to speak to his brother. And yes, he's going to advise his brother, especially as Chris Cuomo is also a lawyer.

45:41

So like that made sense to me.

45:43

The story came out. Chris Cuomo apologized.

45:46

I believe we moved on, but this story came out on CNBC on Monday yesterday, Chris Cuomo, it has key points at the top.

45:55

It makes it easy for me. It says Chris Cuomo was actively in touch with the top aid to his brother, Andrew Cuomo about incoming reports that detailed alleged sexual harassment by the then New York governor.

46:08

We do that. We didn't know he was keeping regular touch with the top eight, but we knew he was on calls with aids.

46:15

I don't think that's new news.

46:16

This is Chris Cuomo lobby to help the governor's office as it sought to weather, the storm of accusations and he dictated statements for the then governor to use you work in media on the biggest news platform.

46:33

You know what lands well and what doesn't, you're giving brothers some consultation.

46:38

It's in that same murky gray area of ethics that we spoke about before you want to help big brother, it goes beyond just like I was on some calls.

46:46

And I had some thoughts. You, you writing his speeches, bro, literally, bruh.

46:52

This is where it starts to get damning.

46:55

Three days after the New York times reported in March about how Andrew Cuomo attempted to kiss a woman at a wedding.

47:03

Chris Cuomo texted, who is DeRosa.

47:06

I think DeRosa is a top eight.

47:08

I have a lead on the wedding girl.

47:11

This is how CNBC breaks it down.

47:13

Quote, Chris Cuomo used his sources in the media world to seek information on women who accused his brother, Andrew Cuomo.

47:21

Then the governor of New York of sexual harassment.

47:25

According to documents released Monday by the New York attorney General's office.

47:30

CNBC continues. Chris Cuomo has previously acknowledged advising his brother and his team on the response to the scandals.

47:38

The records showed that his role in helping the then governor was much larger and more intimate than previously known.

47:47

CNBC quotes. Cuomo is saying, please let me help with the prep.

47:51

He put this in a message to DeRosa.

47:55

CNN has said of this new information.

47:58

We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity over the next couple days.

48:06

There's more Chris Cuomo told investigators that he engaged with what he described as sources regarding the various allegations against his brother.

48:18

He also said that he talked to his sources about yet to be published stories for media outlets.

48:24

He said I would when asked, I would reach out to sources, other journalists to see if they had heard of anybody else coming out.

48:34

There is a text exchange in March from the top aid to Cuomo.

48:39

And it says rumor going around from rumor, going around from Politico once more, one to two more people coming out tomorrow.

48:48

Can you check your sources?

48:50

Chris Cuomo responded on it.

48:53

He later texted. No one has heard that yet.

48:57

So this story of course is on all the news sites.

48:59

I just read to you about CNN has responded.

49:01

And when I was pulling up the story in order to be able to read quotes to you, the first few stories that come out are calling for Chris.

49:08

Cuomo's firing from CNN.

49:11

The Atlantic has a story called Chris Cuomo must go.

49:14

The subhead is new revelation show.

49:16

The CNN anchor betrayed his obligation to viewers.

49:20

They actually call for Chris Cuomo to resign.

49:22

They say, see it. If he doesn't then CNN should sack him.

49:26

The Atlantic points out that Chris mixed his roles as brother and broadcaster.

49:31

They also point out which I was about to as well.

49:33

This makes it easy for me that this is not Chris Cuomo's first scandal.

49:37

We talked about his apology on air, but then maybe it was like a month ago.

49:45

There was a new story about him grabbing some lady's ass in front of her husband.

49:51

And I was like, what? And Chris said, yes, it was inappropriate.

49:54

I apologize at the time, I want to say it was over 10 years ago when it happened, but still messy, messy.

50:02

And then now this, this is more than ethically murky.

50:05

Like this shit, this shit that just happened is like dead ass wrong.

50:09

You know, better as, as a journalist, like I get it and you want to help your brother, but the idea that you're like using your resources that you have through your work as a journalist and through your job being one of the stars of CNN to go asking around about stories coming out and women coming forward and details on specific women who have accused your brother of sexual harassment.

50:32

Like I know why you want to get the insider track.

50:35

I understand completely why the aide asked.

50:38

And I, and I'm all about family. Like I get it, but like you try to look out for family who fucked up, they own bag and your bag might get fucked up too.

50:48

I don't think CNN's gonna fire him. I think they might put them on suspension, but also feel like Chris Cuomo actually, let me say this though.

50:54

I thought like Andrew Cuomo was too big to fail.

50:57

I'm like your father was the governor.

50:59

There's a bridge named after the man.

51:02

You're the governor of New York a year ago.

51:05

You became an international hero.

51:08

I remember being on this podcast and being like, can Andrew Cuomo like run for president?

51:12

Is it too late? Cause the binding thing wasn't really working for me that said fast forward a year, started on fucked up his bag and had to resign because he wanted to grab titties and ass at the office, sir, sir.

51:25

Now you got your brother involved in this shit.

51:27

And let me also say Chris Cuomo was a grown ass man.

51:31

Chris Cuomo involved himself in his brother's shit.

51:36

And I understand there's a weird dynamic with siblings.

51:38

You know, I ain't got one, so I can't fully relate, but you know, you want to make sure your sibling is good.

51:42

Especially as like a little brother, this person has guided you.

51:45

You looked up to them all of their life.

51:47

That takes absolutely no accountability away from Chris Cuomo because again, grown ass, man.

51:53

I think big brother is like in his late sixties.

51:56

I think Chris is like in his mid fifties grown ass man who should make better decisions, but you fucking around trying to protect your brother.

52:05

It could think as battleship. That's what I was originally saying.

52:09

I didn't think Andrew Cuomo was going to have to resign.

52:11

I knew there was a scandal. I knew there were scandals.

52:14

I thought because of a what's his word?

52:18

What's the word?

52:23

His, his power, essentially that he'd be able to weather the storm in my head.

52:30

I'm thinking like Chris, because of his ratings, he should be able to weather this storm.

52:36

Not that he should. I thinking that he would be able to, but then I'm like, I can't call it anymore.

52:42

Folks are not always treating white men in the way that they used to be treated.

52:46

Sometimes they make those mofos pay for their bad behavior.

52:49

I'm thinking Chris will be suspended.

52:51

I also think CNN is probably sick of his shit serving fucking up in his downtime.

52:57

Although I did appreciate when he wandered into his wife's live feed, like butt ass naked.

53:02

I think he was outdoors naked too. Like drinking coffee.

53:04

He was just wandering around naked. Cause you know, sometimes you just wanna get some sun and you know, off unseen places.

53:10

You go for it. I liked it when he tried to beat that dudes ass for calling him Frito too.

53:14

But there's other shit, sir, sir.

53:19

I don't know. I don't, I don't wish him anything.

53:21

I don't wish him the best. I don't, I don't wish him any negativity.

53:25

I'm just going to follow the story and see what happens. What do you is gonna happen?

53:28

I hope you had a wonderful kickoff to the holiday season that you had a great thanksgiving. I'll be very honest with you. I missed yaw. I didn't necessarily miss recording this podcast. podcast. It felt great to have the week felt great to have the week off. off. Not that I was like sitting around doing nothing, like as I think you all know I'm in the middle of, of a massive merchandise Not that I was like sitting around doing nothing, like, As I think you all know, I'm in the middle of of a massive merchandise drop. I usually only do the ratchet and respectable drops once a year. year. I spent most of my week off sitting in the middle of the floor, packing boxes, but no spent most of my week off sitting in the middle of the floor packing boxes, but no complaints. complaints. I also did get a chance on, on Thanksgiving also did get a chance on on Thanksgiving Day. I forced myself not to work. I worked right up until midnight. On Thursday. I was like, close close the computer, shut down ship station, station. Do not print anything, do not pack do not print anything, do not pack anything, like, do not work. It's like the hardest thing I've ever done. done. I was like, oh my God, I'm a legit was like, oh my god, I'm a legit workaholic, but actually like what I do, but actually like a break from what I do. But on Thursday, I did next to nothing. I laid in bed until, like, a good noon. I went to my friend Brianna's house. She's an Atlanta girl. She took a ass off. For Thanksgiving, I Thanksgiving. I ain't putting no vegetables on my put no vegetables on my plate. I got macaroni and cheese, shrimp, scampi, and mashed potatoes. potatoes. I did two services and I ate cake and I felt really good about my life choices drink a bunch of champagne because I was still scared of I did two servings and I ate cake. And I felt really good about my life choices. Drink a bunch of champagne because I was still scared of wine. My friend, Mark Keith, he had me pick up there's this place near my house called Woodspoon. It's a Brazilian restaurant, black owned. owned. It has this amazing has this amazing sangriya. Now I've eaten at the restaurant, the sangriya at the restaurant is good. But the curry I was staying grilled, I don't know what they put me in that. It's so good. The Marquise had me pick up bottles for him to take to the house. house. And so I had stayed in Greece and I had staring great in champagne. I fell asleep on my friend's couch watching something sunset. Not shy as sunset. It's a bunch of tall skinny white ladies who sell real estate selling sunset. So I started watching that from season one on Netflix. And I was like, why you introduced me to this show? Because now I'm hooked. hooked. It's just enough rich, white, crazy to like, get me just enough rich white crazy to, like, get me interested. I love rich white people shenanigans. They live in a whole different world. And world. And I don't just mean I don't just mean money. I mean, just just a whole different world. It's fascinating. The yeah, but that was my thanksgiving and it was really good. good. And then I came home later that then I came home later that night. I wanna say, like, eleven thirty and literally sat at my desk and waited for it to turn midnight so I can start working again. I have problems. I watched some good TV, but before we get into that, we have some other things, some housekeeping things that we need to talk about. One, I told y'all last episode, but this was a week ago, ago. If you want ratchet and respectable Merck, you need to go to the website right now and go get you weren't ratchet and respectable merch, you need to go to the website right now and go get it. The logo hoodies only exist in a small now. The logo crew necks only exist in two x. Everything else is gone. I told y'all, I've I bought a bunch of stuff thinking it was going to last through the winter, like, till February and and it it's gone. It's almost gone in a week. think there's like ten two x's. That's only because the manufacturer sent me some more literally yesterday. We were down to one. one. My printer had extra green blanks, so they printed them up for printer had extra green blanks, so they printed them up for me. me. Cut the Cut the check. I got a bunch of largest in yesterday because they had extra blue blanks at the factory. Blanks are are blank. T shirts, sweatshirt, hoodies, like, literally just, like, the blank shirt that hasn't been printed on yet. But he had extra blue sitting around the factory so I had to print those up for me in a large because those went really fast, but to cut the check stuff is almost gone. Green crewneck, the podcast, green crewneck, with ratchet and respectable in white. Almost gone too. Shut the fuck up is free in pink. Almost gone. I think I had, like, maybe, five t shirts left and maybe five hoodies. White and gold ratchet and respectable. The crewneck are gone and small for sure. I have more hoodies than I do crewneck. I think we still have those in every size. And then the purple, the interested men act interested. There are some of those. There's a decent number of those left. I know purple is a very particular color. People feel very strongly about liking it or not liking it. it. So that's that's fine. But if you want anything other than the purple, I will highly suggest to you that you that you pause this podcast and that you go get your merchandise. And then you come back. As a bonus, I put the site on sale for most items on Friday. So Black Friday through Cyber Monday, there was a sale and it was supposed to end last night. night. I'm recording this on Tuesday at 9:45 recording this on Tuesday at nine forty five AM. I was gonna close the sale last night. But I realized I hadn't done the podcast in week so people who only listened to the podcast who would be obviously most interested in the merch. May not follow me on social media, and so may not know about the sale. So I wanted to make sure that the faithful listeners had access to the sale as well. So I'll leave that up with today, Tuesday. I'll keep the sale on until at least Friday. Does that work? Okay. Now now go to the site and get your merch and then and then come back. We'll be here. I'm not going anywhere. Just pause me. I'll be here. We have some not so good news this week, unfortunately. Virgil Abloh, passed away from cancer. Cancer of the heart is what I read. He was a black man, his early forties, and he was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear collection since two thousand eighteen. He was also the founder of Off White. Do off-white. You remember maybe like a year or two ago when everyone was wearing those yellow belts that almost looked like a tape you remember maybe like a year or two ago when everyone was wearing those yellow belts that almost look like a tape measure. That's him. We had a long list of of brand collaborations. collaborations. My favorites are the one with, with favorite, are the one with with Nike. Nike. There was this gray Jordan was this gray Jordan shoe. I think it was a Jordan three that was just like beyond. just could not bring myself to pay that much money for sneakers. And since he's passing, I go on stock x and look at sneaker prices. The prices of his shoe collaborations have skyrocketed since he passed away. He did a lot. I remember there was like there were like off white rugs. Even if you think you're not familiar with his work, you're familiar with his work. Okay. Remember Amanda Gorman, the young poet laureate, when she was on the cover ofogue, and she had on the the quote and unquote African print. Dress, really beautiful, which I don't know why Louis Vuitton never released that print in anything else. I'm like, can you put this on like a speedy? A carry on? A duffle? Do this for the people. That was virtual. was an original print. The first quote unquote African print And I'm saying quote unquote African print because there's actually a real name for it it. Just off the top of my off the top of my head. I don't know what it is. It's not kente cloth. That's a very specific thing. It's not that but that print is his and it's part of the official Louis Vuitton, I don't know, Vault of Designs now. But he wasn't public about his diagnosis, which I completely understand why. why. So his passing came as a complete shock to most his passing came as a complete shock to most people. I will say this. You can tell lot about how people lived, about how they are remembered when they die, when the news came that he passed, it was up and down my timeline. Everyone had a story. Everyone had a picture. Everyone had a rest in peace. Even people who didn't know him, but just like, enjoyed his his work, his creative output. You output. You know, they don't do that for they don't do that for everyone because some people die and you don't really hear much about it. He, like, rode his life until the wheels rolled off. And one of my friends described it as he died empty. And she was like, and that's the way to go. But I would guess that, you know, he got his diagnosis two years ago, and he was, like, boss to the wall, like, I'm I'm doing it all while I'm here. And he did. I saw that Louis Vuitton is doing a tribute for him. Did I read that? I'm looking it up right now. I'm like I saw it, but it's not in my notes. Yes, Louis Vuitton is doing a tribute show for him in Miami. It's it's Art Basel Week in Miami. I think it starts literally tomorrow. I wanted to go, but I had a work assignment that's keeping me away. But this is what I'm reading. Louis Vuitton will pay tribute to the life and legacy of a creative genius with the presentation of his spring summer twenty twenty two collection in Miami on November thirtieth. 30th. So that's actually So that's actually today. I wonder if there's a livestream five thirty PM Eastern Standard Time. This is from Louis Vuitton's CEO. It is with profound sorrow that I learned of the passing of Virgil Abloh. I wonder if his bosses knew because he just got a promotion earlier this year. He says Virgil was not only a friend, great collaborator, creative genius, visionary, and disruptor. But also one of the best cultural communicators of our time. As a devoted supporter of his community through his charities and passions, he was an eternal optimist who believed anything was possible. In this same spirit, we at Louis Vuitton will proudly continue to celebrate his legacy with the final show in Miami per his wishes. Just a quick note about the eternal optimism. You know, this man didn't even have a fashion degree? I was reading up on him. him. He's first generation American parents are from Ghana and he had an engineering degree, which I was like, I mean, I guess there's a design brain thing happening first generation american, parents are from Ghana, and he had a engineering degree, which I was like, I mean, I guess there's design brain thing happening there. I kinda think of engineering as less creative and more technical. But, you know, clearly, the man was creative. But I was like, really, he had no fashion degree and ended up, like, running men's wear at Louis Vuitton. Vuitton. It's like, sir, sir, you couldn't tell him he didn't have a fashion Like, sir. Sir? You couldn't tell him he didn't have a fashion degree. I just assumed. I just assumed. No. Such a loss such a loss, totally gone too soon. I'll echo the chairman of Louis Vuitton, who deepest thoughts for his wife and children, he had two parents, family, and the entire community that was touched by his greatness. So sad. So sad. In less serious news, Tiffany and Carmen broke up. Tiffany Haddish. Haddish. I feel bad, but I'm like, did you not see that feel bad, but I'm like, did you not see that, Carmen? And not because of and not because of her. Look, I'm gonna say this and I'm only gonna say it because people are assholes and women are in this situation. And I think what's good for the goose is good for the gander, Oh my god. think I'm turning in my grandmother. That's something she would say. Carmen cannot keep a woman to save his life. And he'd be dating some bad checks too. Like, you've had cream of the crop. The leading ladies in their field at the height of their fame. Why you can't keep no woman, man? Erica, He was walking around in crocheted pants where Erica still couldn't keep Erica. It's Serena. That's that's a that's a good look. You couldn't keep Serena? Angeline. Ride. The height of her fame. fame. You can't keep Angela bad You can't keep Angela. Bad shit. You can't keep her either. Tiffany Haddish. He didn't go get broke, Tiffany Haddish. He got post girls trip career exploding, Tiffany Haddish. Isn't she hosting, like, a network show right now? You couldn't keep Tiffany either, bro, it's you. you? The common denominator is The common denominator is you. just I have my theories on why he can't keep a lady. I lady. I think it's more than just commitment it's more than just commitment issues. issues. I suspect I'm totally speculating in the suspect, I am totally speculating in the dark. And I'm saying this based on some nice men that I know, but I also know women that they've dated. dated. The dispute is never that they're not The dispute is never that they're not nice, The dispute is never that they're not genuine. The complaint and again, I don't know common. I have no firsthand knowledge of anyone saying this about common? I'm just saying the dick is trash. That's what I think it is. I could be in tirely wrong. Maybe he's laying amazing pipe. I don't think so though. I don't think so though. And I always get the impression that the women leave him. I don't think he's leaving the women. I think it's I think it's a dick. I don't know if it don't work. Like, it can't stay up or you can't keep it up. up. Maybe a small, maybe the stroke name is small, maybe the stroke name is trash. Maybe not open the suggestions. Maybe he ain't got no mouse skills. skills. I don't I don't know, but I think that's what it is. I know that's a terrible thing to say. I hope it's not the case. I hope I'm just dead ass wrong. And just, you know, it's it's a case of grown people just, you know, being in relationships and, you know, it just it runs its course and it goes to an end. I just know that when this sort of situation happens with women, people be like, what's wrong with her? That's what people say about Halliburton. They'd be like, well, she had three husbands and and couldn't none of them work. It's beautiful ish. She is. Like, what's wrong with her? I think she might have a bad picker. Because when people say stuff like that, I'm like, well, which one you think Halle Berry should have stayed with? The one who beat her, her? The one with the sex addiction or the one who had like a violent temper and beat up the baby the one with the Sex Edition, the one who had like a violent temper and beat up the baby daddy. daddy. Like which which one? I think highly might have a bad picker or some bad luck. But I respect that she gets out of a crazy situation. She ain't gonna sit up in no foolishness for too long. That's a life skill within herself. She got a new dude dude. Now they be quiet about their They be quiet about their love, and I think that's the best way. We see them pop up together every once in a while, but we don't see their their day to day interactions. That's that's one of the secrets to making it work is keeping folks out your damn business. Did y'all watch Holly's films on Netflix? Bruised? I haven't seen it. I'm still behind on so much TV. I went to see my lady about my lady yesterday, and yesterday. And we always have like the best chats when she's like, you know, plucking my always have like the best chats when she's like, you know, plucking my feathers. But she was talking to me about brooves and she was like, oh, it was so good. This is really hally at her best. I really enjoyed it. And I was like, really I've been hearing good things about it, but I just haven't had chance to watch it. I'm not caught up on anything. That's not true. true. I watched that Kevin Hart, Wesley Snipes mini that Kevin Hart Wesley Snipes mini series. That was really good. But, like, I'm not caught up on all Americans. American. I'm not caught up on the bachelorette, I I'm not caught up on the bachelorette. guess in fairness though, this whole season, the bachelorette hasn't been appointment TV for me. me. Like I very much liked Michelle when she was on, when she was a contested on the last season of the bachelor or the season of the bachelor with the first black guy, but carrying a whole show, she don't have a lot of personality to carry a whole I very much liked Michelle when she was on when she was a contestant on the last season of the bachelor or the season of the bachelor with the first black guy. But carrying a whole show, she don't have a lot of personality to carry a whole show. It show. It hasn't been the most been the most interesting. I'm just aiming to support the black girl. I feel like we got on track. I wasn't supposed to be talking about TV yet. I wanted to talk about our good black news. There's been a bunch, but there's two things that I really wanna mention. Because they just made me, like, black girl proud. I saw Rihanna was awarded in Barbados. Let me pull this up. She was honored as the National Hero of Barbados. This happened I think this happened yesterday. I'm reading on CNN. CNN. This finger was honored was honored Monday. So yesterday, in her native Barbados during its presidential inauguration, which served to mark the country becoming a republic. The Arabian Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, told the crowd on behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we therefore present to you the Designee for national hero of Barbados. Ambassador, Robin, Rihanna. Why am I tearing up? Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I'm really sitting here crying. Like, IIA tear just fell out my eye. Oh my god. The desert me for national hero of Barbados, ambassador, Robin Reanna Fenty. Fenty. Oh, I think I'm like, I've always been super proud of Rihanna just to come from like a little island, like Barbados and then become like this global think I'm like, I've always been super proud of Reanna just to come from like a little island like Barbados and then become like this global superstar And I thought this way, even before she dropped Fenty and, you know, and then flipped her network into, like, over a billion dollars. It's just an amazing story of of triumph and perseverance. I also think of and I don't and I don't bring this up lightly because I I do believe folks should be able to, like, move on from shit. But I also think of that horrible photo when she was assaulted by her then boyfriend And that photo leaked, and it was clearly one of the lowest moments of her life. And it's broadcast around the world, and everyone sees her battered face. It was such a a low moment through no fault of her own. She didn't beat herself. She's not responsible for what her boyfriend at the time did. But to rise the way that she has from that moment, that would have broken some people. And it didn't break her. And it just makes me really, really proud of her. And her success all the way through with especially since but especially since that incident. The prime minister went on to say, oh my god. I'm not gonna be able to get through reading this. this. Oh, Okay. Hold on. The prime minister went on to say, quote, may you continue to shine like a diamond? diamond? Whew. Oh, fuck fuck it. And bring honor to your nation by your works. By your actions and to do credit wherever you shall go. Oh my god. I'm gonna have to, like, pause this damn podcast. Like, oh, I'm about to sob. Oh my gosh. gosh. Oh, I'm clearly like affected by this and I'm not sure I I'm clearly, like, affected by this and I'm not sure why? I'm like, I need to call my freaking therapist. I gotta move on to the next topic because not gonna be able to make it through this one. Sorry. I wanted say more about Rihanna. Think she's amazing. amazing. I think she's think she's dope. Congratulations, Reanna. I gotta move on just because I'm like weeping. weeping. What the fuck is wrong with the fuck is wrong with me? Oh, this ain't gonna be no better. Oh, oh, by the way, I'm completely sober. Again, it's like nine something in the morning. morning. All I had was coffee and I had was coffee and water. water. Oh the soul train awards The Soul Trade Awards happened, I did not get a chance to watch. No. No. I don't have, like, regular TV. TV. Like I gotta know what's to know what's happening, and then I gotta find and place the live streaming or, you know, my site where I could watch live TV, you know, on East Coast time to avoid spoilers. The only thing I know that happened at the Soul Train Awards was that Tisha Campbell and Teshina Arnold hosted, which I feel like they've hosted stuff together before. They're been like besties since they were teenagers. And, you know, obviously, they did Martin together. They have amazing chemistry. chemistry. I know silk Sonic know silk sonic performed. performed. I'm obsessed with I'm obsessed with them. I know Maxwell received an award, the Living Legend Award, not just a regular award, but the Living Legend Award. That's very important. I saw a Chauncey received the Lady of Soul Award Jasmine Sullivan won album of the year for hotels, which I think is much deserved when hotels came out. Y'all remember I was talking about it on here and I was like, it's it's an important album on the level of the miss education of Lauren Hill. That said, the Jasmine one album of the year year. But it's her speech that everyone's been speaking it's her speech that everyone's been speaking about. And I posted this on my Instagram page. So she steps to the microphone and she looks timid, and she says she has something that she wants to say. set. And some black man, the audience yells out, let them use you because you know how black people some black man audience yells out, let him use you. Did you know how black people be? I was like, sir, this is the soul train awards. This is not church. But go on and do what you do. Your words of encouragement are appreciated. And he was loud too. too. Jasmine heard them, she reacted to heard them. She reacted to it. So she gets on the microphone, and I'm paraphrasing, and she says how She had made a promise to herself to show up for herself, and she talked about how she doesn't feel she's at her best, She said, quote, mama's been eating, doing quarantine. And when she walked out, like, I noticed, like, you know, her cheeks were a little fluffier, but I was like, girl, ma too. too. I too have been eating during quarantine last three too have been eating during quarantine. The last three months, I don't know what's going on with me, but I have been chowing. But she steps up and she says that, you know, usually when she didn't feel that she was at her best, she would stay home. And I'm like, I can't imagine I mean, I can. I'm saying I can't imagine. absolutely can because I've done shit like this. But can you imagine Jasmine Sullivan receiving album of the year, something that has been long overdue and is much deserved. Jasmine Sullivan doesn't get half the accolades and attention and sales that she should. But can you imagine and I'm sure lot of you can, this really big moment where she like wasn't there because she was like caring about her weight or her appearance. And the sad part is, I can't imagine because I've done that shit. That's the sad part. And I knew it was crazy at the time. I don't know. Having a negative self image or or low self esteem or dealing with depression or whatever it is. It's a whole of my foot. Fuck. You really think the craziest really think the craziest shit and it makes complete sense in your head and you don't realize how nutty it is often until you either get therapy or you see somebody else that, like, you genuinely, like, love and care about, and we and you'd be like, is this really some shit you think I care about? Like Dad and Missana have been walked up or whatever. And like I said, like I noticed cheeks and I was like, oh, shoot me too. Sis me too. But she looked beautiful. She thick, she's still pretty. With the kids say now, face card never declines. Her hair looked right, her makeup looked right, her body looked right, her outfit was cute, like, she looked good. And then she got up there talking about how, like, you know, she had to talk herself into showing up because she made this promise to herself. And I was watching her say it and I was, like, one, like, oh my god. Like, I just wanna give her a hug and then two, like, oh, is this how fucking crazy you sound? Saying this same shit. And I appreciate so much her vulnerability is saying it because, like, posted about it on my page and I was just like, shit. Me too says Me too. And then there was like hundreds of comments where everyone else was like, shit. Me too. Yo. We do a number on ourselves, man. Such a number. Ugh. number. Oh so I'll say this. People online, line. I think in, in our lives it's it's not just the, it's not just the online I think, in our lives, it's it's not just the it's not just the online phenomenon. phenomenon. Be mindful of the shit that comes out your mouth about mindful of the shit that comes out your mouth about people. And people. And I know, I sometimes say crazy shit on know I sometimes say crazy shit on here. I mean, most of it is ingest unless I'm really, like, disgusted by someone's behavior. Don't really take, like, too many jobs. I'm about to take a couple of the Cuomo brothers at the end of this podcast because they wile them right now. But it's not like Jasmine's perception of herself just exists in a bubble. Like, that stuff is in her head for a reason. Like, when she came out, she was like a thicker girl, girl. Her weight has gone up and down weight has gone up and down publicly. It's not like she just up and decided with no context in in a bubble that she wasn't as worthy or she wanted to hide herself It's because she's heard so many negative things said either directly about herself or she's heard them said about other people or even when she lost weight, like people said really ignorant shit to her about her previous appearance. And It's a real mind fuck when you lose weight, and then people tell you how beautiful you are now. And if you happen to regain the weight, God forbid, you you regain the weight you lost and a little bit more, you know very precisely what people think of you, your appearance, your value, as a culture, we put a lot of value on women especially, but on weight and appearance and beauty. We have very narrow definitions of beauty and one of the reigning ones is that you have to be very thin even for, like, black women. It's a different standard than white women, but it's like this very narrow waist with these giant boobs and a big ass. Big ass, big hips. It's equally as hard to attain as being like a size two or size zero white woman. It's a lot of genetics or starvation and constant working out. Some people are willing to do it more so than others or, you know, surgery to attain that ideal when we've assigned this level of value based on appearance and when you don't match it, especially like the further you get away from it, People are more vocal and more insulting in the ways in which they find you lacking. It's really mean So I totally understand how she could be like, you know, I thought about not showing up. And likely because, like, she didn't wanna hear the commentary online, like, about her weight or about her appearance or about her dress. And I know people say that, like, oh, it's part of it. It just comes with celebrity. celebrity. I mean, it I mean, it does. It does, but it shouldn't. She's not a model. She's there to sing. As sing. As long as that woman hits her notes, that's her long as that woman hits her notes, that's her job. I just feel bad for her, and I feel bad for me for all the times that, like, I thought like that. And I was like, anyone who gave two shit about me was like, oh, okay. She's thick now. I'm just happy you're here. We just we do such a number on ourselves and on others. The Jasmine I know a lot of people wait until after the holidays to restart their fitness journey, journey. The but you don't need to wait until the new year to start achieving your fitness but you don't need to wait until the new year to start achieving your fitness goals. goals. Another bit of TV that I have not bothered to see, I told you I'm not not caught up on anything. anything. I miss BMF this weekend, I watched I miss BMF this weekend. I watched insecure. I have not watched King Richard yet. Also, my waxer, she said she saw King Richard and she thought it was amazing. She raved and raved and raved about it. And I do wanna see it because I've heard really good things about it. I've read the thin pieces about the portrayal. Of dynamic black fatherhood and how we need to see more movies about black fathers. Being complicated, yes, complicated. Yes, but supporting their supporting their children. I've read really good things about it. I saw that the numbers were good for it. I just haven't had a chance to watch it. That said, that's it. My understanding of what the film is and this is based on what I've read and and other people talking about it that it's the father of Venus and Serena and how he guided his daughters into becoming strong girls, strong black girls, confident black girls, and guided them into being tenant superstars from a very young age. Okay. Since the film has come out and notably, somebody pointed out the other day and was like, Where is Richard Williams? Because, like, there's a whole movie about him. And we see Venus and we see Serena and we see Will and we see the two young actresses that play venus and Sabrina in the film, but, like, notably, where is Richard? I've read that he's battling dementia. He's not in great health. So that answers the the where is Richard question. But I don't think I knew this and I don't know why I would. But it seems it seems. It is so that prior to creating a family that produced Serena and Venus, and their sisters, but there is a half sister who did an interview with the son. She slammed the film in general And Richard Williams, her father, specifically. This sister's name is Sabrina. She Sabrina. She is 57 years fifty seven years old. She points out that the film starts with Richard William and his new wife and their children, and she said it's like nothing happened before. She says it has been verified that in the early nineteen sixties, Richard, now seventy nine. I'm reading from insider dot com, by the way. Richard was married to Sabrina's late mom, Betty Johnson. They were married in Los Angeles, and they had five children. Sabrina children. Sabrina told the son that when she was eight and her younger sister was just eight weeks old, Richard William said he was leaving the house to buy Sabrina a told the son that when she was eight and her younger sister was just eight weeks old, Richard Williams said he was leaving the house to buy Sabrina a bike. And she said, he never returned. He went on to make a new life with his second wife Venus and Serena's mother. Serena says that she has seen her father only a few times since then. She told the sun truth be told, those girls rose to the top while his other children had to suffer because of the choices my dad made. We were raised in poverty after he left. She added, he's not the king of the world. If you look at him psychologically, it's something he's never achieved apart from in his head. He's lived only through two of his daughters for saking all his children. Sabrina added that she doesn't hold any anger toward her dad, and she's attended counseling to deal with her unresolved feelings. I saw a lot of folks very upset about this woman's story. Their line of thinking was, you know, here is this story, this movie, about this black father who raised and trained these confident girls who went on to be global superstars because of their talent and developed skill as tennis players. Okay. They say that this is a positive depiction a black fatherhood and it's absolutely terrible that this woman would come along and compromise that image because it's so important to see strong, present, invested, loving, black fathers. I don't agree with that. I don't agree with that. I think that it's great that the film was made. I think it's great that there is a depiction of a good black dad. I dad. I do think it's do think it's necessary. I heard Will Smith has killed this role. I role. I completely understand why, why Venus and Serena, who I think people would be very open to seeing a movie about Venus and understand why why Venus and Serena who I think people would be very open to seeing a movie about Venus and Serena. I think it's a deliberate choice that as the executive producers of this film, they opted to essentially pay homage to their father and his influence and his love while he's still alive. I think that's a really good and sweet thing to do for your dad. And they left out the part about, you know, the first wife. I think that's totally fair for for Venus and Serena to do. I also think it's totally fair for for this sister, this half sister Sabrina, to tell her story too. I mean, one of the things that occurs is when you put yourself out there for public consumption, as people always pop up and say that, you know, this was my role in this story or this is another part of the story that was left out. This happens every single time. It's not specific to Richard Williams or specific to a story about black people or black fatherhood. If my dad said he was going out to get me a bike or said he was going out for any reason and and never came back, I I would have been devastated Like, your parent just left. And I know that's a lot of people's story, but, like, with the fuck. And, like, the idea that this woman shouldn't speak up and or she should honor honor some, I don't know, cultural uplift of of black fathers and put that before her own feelings or before what her actual father did to her fuck that. She got every right to tell her story and I'm not mad that she told it. I think we often do this thing where we think that only one thing can be true It true. It can be true that Richard Williams was a good father, a good and present and active and caring and invested father in Venus and Serena and they're full can be true that Richard Williams was a good father, a good and present, and active, and caring and invested father in Venus and Serena and their full siblings, and it's also equally as true that he shitted on his first family. Both things are entirely true. And I don't know what else to call it, then shitting on if you get up one day and just leave. Or you you've only seen your daughter a handful of times in her lifetime? What? So I'm glad she's telling her story. I think her truth is just that and it deserves to be her just as much as Venus and Serena's truth and this movie that they've made about their dead. Don't think you have to choose. I think he was great man. I think he was also like a shitty man. Equally true. You know, it's very hard for me to get a full night sleep. I never get a full eight hours, and I can feel it every single morning. Beam is a functional wellness brand that makes products for sleep, calm, focused, energy, hydration, and recovery. But it goes beyond shenanigans because it's my fault. Like, it's one thing if you're just saying, wow shit to people, it's another when you start grabbing up more folks. Like, III make a distinction there. CNBC ran this story. The long lengths that Chris Cuomo was going to to help his brother. You remember a story about this came out a while ago? Where Chris Cuomo was, like, yeah, I was on calls with, like, consultation. And maybe that was a bad idea because, idea. Cause you know, I host a news show on CNN and I gave him grace you know, I host a new show on CNN, and I gave him grace there. I realized that that's like a tricky gray area, but I was like, no, it's his brother. His brother is involved in his scandal yes, he's going to speak to his brother, and yes, he's going to advise his brother, especially as Chris Cuomo is also a lawyer. So, like, that made sense to me. The story came out. Chris Cuomo apologized. I believed we'd moved on. But this story came out on CNBC on Monday, yesterday. Chris Cuomo. It has key points at the top. Makes it easy for me. Says Chris Cuomo was actively in touch with the top a to his brother Andrew Cuomo. About incoming reports that detailed alleged sexual harassment by the then New York governor. We do that. We didn't know he was keeping regular touch with the top eight, but we knew he was on calls with aids. don't think that's new news. This is Chris Cuomo lobbied to help the governor's office as it sought to weather the storm of accusations. And he dictated statements for the then governor to use. You work in media on the biggest news platform. You know what lands well and what doesn't. You're giving brothers some consultation. It's in that same murky gray area of ethics that we spoke about before you wanna help big brother. It goes beyond just like I was on some calls and I had some thoughts. You you write in his speeches? Brah. Literally, Brah. This is where it starts to get damning. Three days after the New York Times reported in March about how Andrew Cuomo attempted to kiss a woman at a wedding, Chris Cuomo texted. Who is Dirosa? think Dirosa is a top eight. I have a lead on the wedding girl. This is how CNBC breaks it down, quote, Chris Cuomo used his sources in the media world to seek information on women who accused his brother Andrew Cuomo than the governor of New York of sexual harassment, according harassment. According to documents released Monday by the New York attorney General's to documents released Monday by the New York attorney general's office. CNBC continues. Chris Cuomo has previously acknowledged advising his brother and his team on the response to the scandals. The scandals. The records showed that his role in helping the then governor was much larger and more intimate than previously show that his role in helping the thin governor was much larger and more intimate than previously known. CNBC quotes Cuomo is saying, please let me help with the prep. He prep. He put this in a message to this in a message to derosa. CNN has said of this new information, we will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity over the next couple days. There's more. Chris Cuomo told investigators that he engaged with what he described as sources regarding the various allegations against his brother. He also said that he talked to his sources about yet to be published stories from media outlets. He said, I would, when asked, I would reach out to sources other journalists to see if they had heard of anybody else coming out. There out. There is a text exchange in March from the top aid to a text exchange in March from the top aid to Cuomo and it says rumor going around from rumor going around from political. One to more one to two more people coming out tomorrow. Can you check your sources? Chris Cuomo responded on it. He later texted no one has heard that yet. So this story of course is on all the new sites I just read to you about CNN has responded. And when I was pulling up the story in order to to be able to read quotes to you. The first few stories that come out are calling for Chris Cuomo's firing from CNN. The Atlantic has a story called Chris Cuomo must go. The subhead is new revelation show the CNN anchor betrayed his obligation to viewers. They actually call for Chris Cuomo to resign. They say his if it. If he doesn't then CNN should sack doesn't, then CNN should sack him. The Atlantic points out that Chris mixed his roles as brother and broadcaster. They also point out which I was about to as well, this makes it easy for me. This is not Chris Cuomo's first scandal. We talked about his apology on air, but then Maybe it was like a month ago. There was a new story about him grabbing some lady's ass in front of her husband, And I was like, what? And Chris said, yes, it was inappropriate. I apologize at the time. I wanna say it was over ten years ago when it happened, but still messy. Messy. And then now this this is more than ethically murky. Like, this shit this shit that just happened is like dead ass wrong. You know better. As as a journalist. Like, I get it and you wanna help your brother, but the idea that you're, like, using your resources that you have through your work as a journalist and through your job, being one of the stars of CNN, to go asking around about stories coming out and and women coming forward, and details on specific women who have accused your brother of sexual harassment. Like, harassment. Like I know why you want to get the insider I know why you want to get the insider track. I understand completely why the aid asked. And I and I'm all about family. Like, I get it, but, like, You trying to look out for family who fucked up their own bag and your bag might get fucked up too. I don't think CNN is on fire. I think they might put him on suspension. But also feel like Chris Cuomo. Actually, let me say this though, I thought like Andrew Cuomo was too big to fail. I'm like your father was the governor is a bridge named after the man. You're the governor of New York. A year ago, you became an international hero. I remember being on this podcast and being like, can Andrew Cuomo, like, run for president? Is it too late? Because the Biden thing wasn't really working for me. That's it. Fast forward a year, sergeant fucked up his bag and had to resign because he wanted to grab Titties and ass at the office. Sir. Sir. Now you got your brother involved in this shit. And let me also say, Chris Cuomo was a grown ass man. Chris Cuomo involved himself in his brother's shit. And I understand there's a weird dynamic with siblings. You siblings. You know, I ain't got one, so I can't fully relate, but you know, you want to make sure your sibling is I ain't got one, so I can't fully relate. But, you know, you wanna make sure your sibling is good, especially good. Especially as like a little brother, this person has guided like a little brother, this person is guided you. You looked up to them all of their life. That takes absolutely no accountability away from Chris Cuomo because again grown ass man. I think big brother is like in his late sixties. I think Chris is like in his mid fifties grown ass man. Who should make better decisions. But you fucking around trying to protect your brother, it could think his battleship. That's what I was originally saying. I didn't think Andrew Cuomo was gonna have to resign. I knew there was a scandal. I knew there were scandals. I thought because of What's his word? What's the word? His his power, essentially, that he'd be able to weather the storm. In my head, I'm thinking, like, Chris, because of his ratings, he should be able to weather this storm, not that he should. I'm thinking that he would be able to, but then I'm like, I can't call it anymore. Folks anymore. Folks are not always treating white men in the way that they used to be not always treating white men in the way that they used to be treated. Sometimes they make those mobiles pay for their bad behavior. I'm thinking Chris will be suspended. Also think CNN is probably sick of his shit, serving fucking up in his downtime. Although I downtime. Although I did appreciate when he wandered into his wife's live feed, like butt ass appreciate when he wandered into his wife's live feet like butt ass naked it. I think it was outdoors naked too, like drinking coffee, which is wandering around naked. You know, sometimes you didn't get some sun and, you know, off unseen places. You go for it. I like it. I liked it when he tried to beat that dudes ass for calling him Frito when you try to beat that dude's ass for calling him freighter too. But this other shit. Serb. Serb. I don't know. I don't I don't wish him anything. I don't wish him the best. I don't I don't wish him any negativity. I'm just gonna follow the story and see what happens. What do you think's gonna happen? Alright.
