Welcome into the Ravens Press Pass Podcast. The

0:05

NFL Draft continued tonight for

0:07

rounds two and three, and the Ravens

0:09

made a pair of picks. In the second round. They

0:12

took offensive tackle Roger

0:14

Rosengarten out of Washington,

0:16

and then they follow that up in the third round

0:18

with outside linebacker Adissa Isaac out

0:21

of Penn State. We had a chance to talk with

0:23

both those prospects on zoom calls

0:25

after they were picked, as well as

0:28

hearing from head coach John Harbaugh

0:30

and general manager Eric Tacosta as

0:33

they recapped the second day. Let's kick

0:35

things off with ADC and coach Harball.

0:39

Well, guys, we're excited to have a

0:41

pretty successful day today. I think with

0:44

our two picks, Roger

0:46

rosen Garden tackle

0:48

that we've really been following since

0:51

the Senior Bawl. We were fortunate

0:54

as an underclassmen with the rule changes,

0:56

he was able to be down there this year, and

0:58

we watched him at length and

1:00

followed him and saw him at the combine. We interviewed

1:02

him at the combine. He was a player that we had kind

1:04

of had our sites set on. Today

1:07

he's one of our top players in the entire

1:09

round. Today, and

1:13

I think fortunate that we got him when we did.

1:15

It was a trend. As you guys saw

1:18

all those offensive linemen get picked after him.

1:20

I think they were like ten or eleven guys in

1:22

a span of like maybe twenty picks.

1:25

So we were fortunate, almost like with the corners

1:27

yesterday, we got out in front of that trend. So it's

1:30

better to be at the front of those moves and at the end.

1:33

And then when the DESA was My

1:35

first school visit this year was the Penn

1:37

State West Virginia game. I had a daughter there at

1:40

Penn State. I scouted the Lisa. They had a lot

1:42

of players on defense this year, and

1:44

I love his body, love us frame, his upside.

1:47

He's a very explosive player, very

1:49

physical, can be used in a lot of different

1:52

ways. He's got a

1:54

great story.

1:56

You know.

1:56

Patrick McDonough, one of our scouts, did

1:58

a phenomenal job scouting him. Uh.

2:01

He was his Red Star player this year, which

2:04

is kind of cool. And we just

2:06

feel like he's a raven type of guy. Fits

2:08

us in many different ways mentality and with his just

2:11

physical style of play. So we're excited to get him.

2:16

We talked to the Rose garden, he said, And your

2:18

combined is that you told it

2:20

didn't even go to the full length.

2:21

And he said, you told him he checked

2:23

all the boxes.

2:25

What would lead you.

2:26

To say that, Well, it might have been

2:28

about the seventh or eighth interview in a row, back to back.

2:30

They stacked it up by so we needed a

2:32

break. But uh, he came in

2:35

there and just we try

2:37

to focus on football, you know, we

2:39

we do. We do a lot of our scouts

2:41

do a great job of uncovering

2:43

all the other stuff and if something

2:45

needs to be asked, Eric will do a great job asking question.

2:47

But we try to get in there with football. And he was just

2:50

so on point. He was on point. He

2:52

knew his technique, he knew his assignments, he

2:54

was very self aware of the things he needed to get better

2:56

at, and just seemed like a motivated guy. He seemed

2:58

like a raven Like both these two guys

3:00

were just our kind of guys. So, you

3:02

know, we didn't we needed a break and he

3:05

checked all the boxes.

3:07

H he seems to seem like he plays on the

3:09

right side, right tackle. Uh, do you

3:11

think there's a chance that he can come in and start

3:13

ideally?

3:15

Oh yeah, absolutely, I mean, we draft him with that idea

3:18

that he'll compete for that. You know, that's the idea.

3:20

All these guys will be competing for playing time

3:22

and opportunities to start and

3:24

in his case, right, and

3:26

you know, we're gonna we're gonna look at him everywhere.

3:29

He's he's, he's he can he can play guard if we needed

3:31

him to, and he can play left tackle if we need him to.

3:33

We're just gonna let, you know, roll

3:35

little offensive line out there and let him compete.

3:38

How do you see Isaac's pass

3:40

rushing skills translate to the NFL?

3:42

Does need more development.

3:43

Or can you come in to meet m F Well,

3:45

I mean, I think heavy most of these guys need

3:48

some some development when they get to this level

3:50

as pass rushes. But what I like about

3:52

him is he's got great length, which is a

3:54

critical factor. Uh, he's got

3:56

heavy hands. Uh, he's got

3:58

some different moves. He's he's got speed

4:00

and quickness, and

4:03

I think he's tenacious. And so I think all of those

4:05

things when you think about our best pass rushers,

4:08

I think those are a lot of the traits that those guys have,

4:10

and so we're very excited. I watched

4:13

you know a lot offensive linemen this year in the Big Ten.

4:15

Obviously we have a need at that position,

4:18

and so I watched a lot of these guys, and

4:20

Adize is a guy that kind of reatavoc in the Big

4:22

Ten this year.

4:25

You guys and Robbers at best

4:27

player available team, you

4:30

go into day three of.

4:30

The draft, probably each had argument

4:34

three?

4:35

Is that just how the board fell?

4:37

Was this particularly draft that is kind

4:39

of conducive to being able to.

4:41

Get that about done?

4:44

Well?

4:44

I think, you know, so far,

4:46

we've gotten pretty lucky. You

4:49

know, we've I was you know, I talked

4:51

about trading up yesterday, and you

4:53

know, I was tempted at one point. I

4:55

got scared today a little bit, but we just

4:57

stayed patient and we were

4:59

four. You know, I think when your need

5:02

and best player kind of match up,

5:04

then you really have something special. And I think that's

5:06

happened a couple of times for us, and so it's it's

5:09

good. You know. I think tomorrow we're in a position

5:11

where we're just basically open highway

5:13

and we can just sit back and just draft the best guys

5:16

that we see on the board without any real thought

5:18

to like position or how they're gonna fit. Roster

5:20

wise, we're just gonna draft the best football players you.

5:23

I think he's happened the ros and Garden pick.

5:25

The TV cameras showed at least

5:27

the m that showed you kind of had

5:29

me a conversations that

5:31

over possibly the trade up Offertunty

5:34

not doing it.

5:35

No.

5:35

I think I asked them if I could have a glass of red wine

5:37

in the draft.

5:38

Room at that point.

5:39

But yeah, I don't know we were

5:41

happy. I don't know what we were talking about. I think we had

5:44

there was a team that had called us about

5:47

trading up to our spot, and

5:49

we'd considered it. Uh

5:53

and I don't want to,

5:55

you know, really give away too much, but a

5:58

team that was just behind us called us about trading

6:00

up, and then they decided

6:02

to not do it, and

6:05

so we drafted Roger. And

6:07

then they they did trade up right behind

6:10

us and took a different tackle, and

6:12

uh, you know, there's a

6:15

theory that they were drafting Roger. So

6:18

that's what we were talking about. I think just we got

6:20

lucky that we didn't go back

6:22

a few spots because we might have missed

6:24

out on the guy that we wanted. You know, you think if you go back

6:26

to spots. Pretty good chance to get your guy.

6:29

But there was a there's a chance we might have been disappointed.

6:33

On Roger a lot

6:35

to talk about how great his mobility is.

6:38

Where's the greatest area for him to grow is it?

6:40

Is it power? You

6:42

know, well,

6:44

he's.

6:44

Young, he's a young player. You

6:47

guys will see him. I mean, he's just he's

6:49

young. He's gonna get stronger. We'll get him

6:51

in the weight room. He's

6:53

a very gifted athlete. He's played some left

6:55

tackle, he played left tackle at the Senior Bowl. Very

6:58

good feet, body mechanics, exchange

7:00

the direction, agility. He's

7:02

just got to get physically stronger. There's a lot of guys,

7:04

do you know, And so he will, Uh,

7:07

he'll fill out and get stronger, have a great strength program

7:09

and uh and he'll see quick results.

7:11

I think, well it's a lot.

7:13

Do you think how uh signific

7:16

it was the was the mobility in

7:18

the decision giving direction in

7:20

the offense?

7:21

I guess, uh

7:23

yeah, I mean I think it's just you know, fast protection

7:26

wise. You know, the guys that really

7:28

kind of flourish at our level of the guys that

7:30

have enough strength and the guys that can really move their

7:32

feet and uh, and that's

7:34

you know, it's that's great. I mean in our offense, you know, we

7:36

do a lot of things out in space. Guys

7:38

have to be able to pull. And you know our screen game

7:41

was was good this year, and you know, we get these

7:43

guys out there and we have fast players and a quarterback

7:45

obviously is a tremendous athlete. So you

7:48

know, you want guys that are mobile. We want big, strong

7:50

guys, but we want these guys to be mobile too.

7:53

Is there any consideration why either

7:56

in the third round or is it just one of those

7:58

situations.

7:58

Obviously you'd like the guy you got.

8:00

It's a pretty receiver playoffs.

8:04

Yeah, I mean, I think what you have to try and do in that any

8:06

situation is look at your needs and who's

8:08

the best player available, and then

8:10

what are your chances I think getting

8:13

a player at these

8:15

other positions in the coming rounds.

8:17

And so we've got a pick in I

8:20

don't know what is it, thirteen picks away, fourteen

8:22

to fifteen picks away, whatever that is, I don't know.

8:24

So we have to kind of assess who we think is going

8:27

to be there at that pick, and then we have another

8:29

pick after that in the fourth round, and so everything

8:31

we do is based on percentages, and

8:33

so again I'll give I'll

8:36

give Derek Yam credit. He

8:38

said today, at the start of the day, there was an

8:40

eighty percent chance that we would get Roger

8:42

roseen Garden eighty percent, and

8:45

I said that seems kind of high to me, and he

8:47

got kind of nervous and goes, yeah, it seems kind high to me

8:49

too, But we got him. So

8:51

he's he's a free man.

8:53

How much does it factor into

8:57

Roger, who's a right tackled recovering the

8:59

line for.

9:03

Is the added value in doing

9:05

that job? Yeah, I think that's

9:07

a good point.

9:08

Uh.

9:09

And he's at He's just an athletic guy when you watch

9:11

the tape, Like Eric had mentioned, he's

9:13

young, but he can move his feet. I

9:15

think Brian was kind of talking about that, the athleticism

9:17

part of it. He can move so it's

9:20

not going to be a challenge for him to go either

9:22

way.

9:23

He's young.

9:23

We'll bring him in all these guys we look

9:25

at, especially early on. He live be in a mini

9:28

camp in here next weekend and he'll be playing both

9:30

sides and just see what they look like and

9:32

kind of see how it shakes out over the course

9:34

of mini camp, training camp and all that. But the

9:36

fact that he was with the left handed quarterback on the right side,

9:39

I think is kind of part of

9:41

that. Yeah, what do you what

9:43

do you?

9:44

What do you?

9:45

Kind of how you in

9:47

your defense?

9:48

Well, I saw a guy on tape that makes a lot of plays

9:50

and he does it in a real athletic way. I mean, he's a

9:53

very athletic guy, very explosive

9:55

starter, very.

9:56

Can cover ground.

9:57

He can get to you can get to the edge of a tackle and

10:00

beat him on the edge with quickness or beat him underneath the quickness

10:02

and then you know, long arm power, he's got

10:04

that too, So he's got some real pass rush ability. He's

10:06

heavy handed against the run. So for

10:08

us, he's going to be in the rotation just like last

10:10

year, and he's probably from a number standpoint,

10:13

you know, in Jadevian spot with

10:16

those guys. So you got all those guys back,

10:18

we're going to add We're gonna add David,

10:20

you know, because he's going to be healthy. We got

10:23

van Nei back and then we got our other guys. So who

10:25

are you know, I mean, we got a

10:27

pretty good group out there. Coming off the edge, setting

10:29

the edge outside backers, defensive

10:31

ends, and he's going to be a part of that. So

10:34

I like having fresh guys out there playing

10:37

really hard, you know, and especially

10:39

deposition.

10:41

Your evaluation of athletic

10:43

pass rushers changed it all because you guys do got

10:45

Chust who he's one of the best

10:47

to kind of crafting, you know, scale

10:49

out of maybe some rougher edges.

10:51

Yeah, yeah, you know, I think Jonas I really

10:54

pay attention to Chuck. I mean when he talks, I listened

10:56

because he is a great pass rush specialist

10:58

and he's looking for traits

11:00

and he gets excited by certain guys

11:02

and uh, and I like that. I love his

11:05

enthusiasm. He's a he's a he's a joy

11:07

to work within the draft meetings because he's

11:10

you know, if he loves a guy and uh,

11:12

and that's exciting. That's what you want as an evaluator.

11:15

And there's a guy that kind of organizes the draft.

11:17

You really want, you know, your your scouts

11:19

and your coaches to take ownership

11:21

of certain guys and get on the table for guys.

11:24

And Chuck does that. And he's a great

11:26

coach. And so if he sees these trades and somebody

11:28

I get excited. I think we all saw how our

11:31

guys developed last year and emerge

11:33

and what we did, and I think Chuck's

11:35

a big part of that.

11:37

Big picture of the draft has surprised you, so Fartman.

11:40

And any of the positional run tapping it

11:42

different times than your respecting.

11:43

Maybe well, I just think it's you know again

11:47

it you know, I feel we feel fortunate

11:49

because you know, we

11:51

took Nate and then we saw those corners

11:54

go at the beginning today like

11:56

all of the guys we like to get picked, and

11:58

then uh Roger

12:00

and then I mean, I've never seen anything

12:03

like what we saw today where every

12:05

single guard and tackle

12:08

on the front board got picked in

12:11

a span of twenty picks. Never

12:13

seen that before, so that

12:15

was kind of surprising. It's just been it

12:17

seems like, if you're going to define this draft

12:20

is to the draft of the run, because you

12:22

sew the quarterbacks in the first round, and

12:25

then you saw the corners kind of at the end of the second

12:27

into the at the end of the first,

12:29

end of the second, and then for the end of the

12:31

second into the thirty sell of the offensive alignment.

12:33

So it's been unusual.

12:35

Is that a big part of Derek Gams kind

12:37

of job is your job is

12:40

analyzing where's that run going to start? How

12:42

can we get ahead of that run or earlier than run

12:44

at least?

12:46

Yeah, you know, I try to do that. I think

12:48

I study that list, the damn list.

12:50

I have it, and I study it, and you just

12:52

kind of if you look at it long enough, you start to see

12:54

patterns. And I did feel I can't

12:57

say that I thought the offensive line would work out

12:59

like it did today because I actually thought that

13:01

we would have an opportunity tomorrow to

13:03

get some pretty good offensive linemen.

13:06

Uh.

13:08

But at the corner position, I

13:10

did kind of see there was a trap that

13:13

if you didn't get a corner in the first round

13:15

and you weren't picking high in a second, you were

13:17

going to be in trouble. I did see that, and

13:19

so and I think that was the case.

13:22

Ericor John, I think rosing Guard obviously

13:24

was coming off that kind of disappointed and that

13:27

Washington Michigan game. Was he as

13:30

high on your rate or as central

13:32

on your radar going into the Senior Bowl

13:34

then when he left, I mean, you guys already

13:36

really liked him going into

13:39

Mobile to be kind of open, you guys, I was

13:41

to have a look of a prospect he was there,

13:43

Well.

13:44

You know I didn't.

13:44

I didn't.

13:45

So we went that We went to the National championship.

13:47

John and I we were blessed to be able to go to that game

13:49

and it was a great result, as John would say, in

13:52

a fun night. And you

13:54

know, I'll be honest, I really I

13:56

did scout a little bit, but I was really just kind

13:59

of taken in the atmosphere the game at

14:01

that point. I didn't know a lot about

14:03

Roger at that point. My first

14:05

real you know, exposure was at the Senior Bowl

14:08

and I was very impressed by him. Came

14:10

back and before the draft meetings,

14:12

watched his tape, was more impressed

14:15

and uh and then he you know, went to the combine

14:18

interviewed him. Super impressive guy, great

14:20

background, great makeup.

14:22

Uh.

14:22

And so that's kind of what happened with that, which

14:29

you know was.

14:31

That and what any

14:33

impact that And to approach

14:36

the.

14:36

First of the draft, you

14:38

know, Rishard as a player that I just I've

14:40

said it a million times and I think coach would say

14:43

the same thing, like I am extremely excited to

14:45

watch for shot this year. I think his best football's

14:47

ahead of him, and so to get

14:49

him back was kind of a no brainer. It's something he wanted,

14:52

it's something we wanted. When both sides

14:54

kind of see the same goal, then it's

14:56

easy to kind of accomplish. And so I

14:59

just feel like he's a really, really talented player

15:01

who's had some bad luck with injuries. I

15:03

think he's got

15:05

a very bright future and I'm excited to watch him

15:07

play.

15:12

You guys, so

15:14

you got them.

15:15

Thanks, So

15:19

they're certainly excited about these moves. And now

15:21

let's hear from offensive tackle Roger

15:24

Rosegarten, who the Ravens took in the

15:26

second round at pick number sixty two.

15:29

Hey, congratulations, Roger. You're

15:32

obviously known for your past blocking

15:34

at Washington. What's

15:37

how do you kind of sunk in? How's it going to feel to

15:39

be a pass blocking for Lamar Jackson?

15:42

I mean, as soon as I said I heard Baltimore,

15:44

you know that's the first thing I came on. My

15:46

blocking for Lamar an

15:48

elite level quarterback and MVP level quarterback.

15:51

I mean, it's it's a dream come true. I

15:54

mean, Baltimore is one of those places where

15:56

it's been a historic program for such a

15:58

long time and just to year

16:00

my name called and have everybody

16:03

in the staff come and

16:05

congratulate me.

16:06

It was it was such a great feeling.

16:10

We'll go to Garrett Downing.

16:12

Hey, Roger, congratulations. You

16:14

know, you know for you obviously

16:16

played a right tackle Washington. Just kind of what do you feel like

16:18

at your best position here at the NFL

16:21

level and how do you feel like you're getting projects

16:23

to this next this next level?

16:25

Yeah, I mean, uh, I'm most for

16:27

sure comfortable with tackle both tackles.

16:29

I grew up playing left and then kind of got switched

16:31

over to right. But you know, my

16:33

main thing is is I actually want to come in and compete and

16:35

uh, you know, Earn Winz

16:37

helped help this team earn wins for the program,

16:40

and uh, I mean it means a lot to me that

16:42

Baltimore chose me at this position.

16:44

And uh, you know, I take a lot of pride in playing

16:46

offensive line, especially especially offensive

16:49

tackles.

16:49

So Jeff's

16:51

the reeback.

16:54

Rocher.

16:55

What was your level of interaction with

16:57

the Ravens. Did you come to

16:59

Baltimore or for pre draft visit? Did you meet with

17:01

them at the combine and did you kind of

17:03

have a feeling that they were going to be one of the teams

17:05

that was going to be interested you here in that second

17:07

round.

17:08

Yeah.

17:09

I mean I met with them first at Senior Bowl

17:11

kind of briefly within the scouts,

17:13

and then I think that progressed

17:16

on to a Combine visit and

17:18

I had a formal meeting with them and that went super

17:20

well.

17:20

I remember, you have

17:23

the alloweded.

17:24

Seventeen or twenty minutes whatever it was, and

17:26

our meeting ended up going ten minutes.

17:28

Coach Harbaugh and.

17:29

The offensive line coach and

17:31

the rest of the staff really said,

17:33

hey, man, like you check all the boxes. I

17:35

mean, no, there's no need to spend

17:38

all seventeen minutes on this. So I

17:41

know, I knew from there. My meeting went super

17:43

well with them at the Combine, and then I didn't

17:45

end up doing a thirty visit, but that's kind of all

17:47

the extent was.

17:48

And yeah,

17:51

we'll.

17:51

Go Childs Walker and then Ryan Mink.

17:55

Yeah here, Roderick, congratulations. Where

17:58

do you feel like you have the most room to grow in

18:00

your game?

18:01

Yeah?

18:02

I mean, for me as an offensive lineman,

18:04

I feel I'm my own biggest critic,

18:07

you know, I feel like there's a super

18:11

It's unbelievable to say, but I think

18:13

there's a lot in my games that I need to critique

18:15

and get better at. You know, so

18:18

when it comes back to game film, I wish

18:20

I could give you one strong answer, but I

18:22

mean, I got a whole lot to work on my game.

18:24

You know, my game isn't perfect, but you know, I.

18:26

Feel like I have certain strengths in certain areas

18:28

and certain weaknesses and areas. But I

18:31

mean it's it's all broad in on offense line.

18:33

It could be get off, it could be hand

18:35

placement A to Z.

18:37

Really, so.

18:40

Ran me, Roger, congratulations.

18:43

Yeah, I just want to build off those strengths that you see.

18:45

Where where do you feel like right now are

18:47

the biggest strengths in your game?

18:49

Yeah?

18:49

I mean, just coming from college, we were past heavy offense,

18:51

so obviously I feel very confident in my past set,

18:54

but also my run blocking. I feel like my run blocking

18:56

is underrated. We were kind of

18:58

in that spread offense, kind of spread

19:02

offense, run scheme, zone scheme. But

19:04

I mean it doesn't matter what what scheme it is, uh,

19:07

I mean I feel confident within run pass

19:09

screens, getting out in space, I

19:12

just feel confident at all.

19:13

So we'll

19:16

go to Brian Whacker and then Gianahan.

19:20

Hey, Roger, congratulations, you

19:23

know you mentioned you run blocking obviously,

19:25

Derrick Henry here just got

19:27

to hear how excited kind of are

19:30

you to be able to block for him and

19:33

and sort of what what

19:36

how familiar are you with with the

19:38

raven scheme and what Todd Mulkin likes to do

19:41

and so forth.

19:42

Yeah, as soon as you

19:44

brought up Dereck Henry, I mean that was one of the first things when

19:46

I thought Baltimore.

19:46

You think Lamar and then you think the new

19:48

addition of Derrick Henry.

19:50

Uh, you get a guy that that high

19:52

level running and guy runs hard.

19:54

Trust his O limeon. I know he loves his old linement from

19:56

just.

19:57

Watching him back when he was at Tennessee and to see him

19:59

now finally on Baltimore, it's it's super exciting.

20:02

And just to note that I'm going to get reps at

20:04

blocking for Derrick Henry, it's a it's

20:07

something that you know, you don't really think of growing

20:09

up watching him when he was at Alabama,

20:12

and then he wins the Heisman and uh,

20:14

kind of come full circle and get a get a

20:16

block For a guy like that, it's it's a super special.

20:20

Thank you, Gianna,

20:24

congratulations.

20:25

Kind Of going off of the last question and

20:28

response, when it comes to blocking Lamar,

20:30

what you've seen just watching him, is

20:32

there anything unique that entails

20:34

since he is a very different type of quarterback. Obviously

20:37

he can lift your game. But is there anything you'll have to

20:39

adju us to learn to play with Lamar?

20:42

No?

20:43

I mean, I think obviously

20:45

Lamar is one of the strong suits is his ability

20:47

to scramble and get it out of the pocket. But a

20:51

lot of that came with Mike Pennix

20:53

back at school before

20:55

he kind of came to Washington and

20:57

everyone saw him as a true pocket passer and seeing

21:00

what he can do in practice, he would he would

21:02

definitely burge out and kind of get in that scrambled

21:04

mindset, and I learned to adapt

21:06

to it very quickly. I

21:09

mean, thankfully he didn't have to do that too much in games,

21:11

but I mean in practice, it was it was,

21:13

it was on and uh when it came to

21:15

that scramble mentality that

21:17

he had when it needs to be and uh,

21:19

you know, going from la Lamar's

21:22

standing there and he'll rip it and rip

21:24

it, but he'll also get out in the pocket when

21:26

he needs to.

21:27

So I'm excited.

21:29

We'll go Nikkeel and then back to Jeff's

21:31

the rebec.

21:33

Hi Rober, Congratulations, Welcome to Baltimore.

21:36

I know someone already asked you a little bit about

21:38

what your feel is about Todd Monkin's offense,

21:40

But coming from that Washington offense, how

21:43

do you feel like what you did in that Washington

21:45

offense is going to translate directly to the NFL?

21:48

Yeah, I mean, just from Todd's offense

21:51

when he's in that gun formation, I

21:53

know he trust this offensive line very

21:56

much, so, especially the

21:58

edges and the tackles, and you know, I think

22:00

just that supreme confidence of in his offensive

22:02

line within the past game in also run game,

22:04

I mean, it speaks millions to what

22:07

I could bring to the table and coming in and competing.

22:09

And yeah,

22:13

Roger, have you gotten the sense from the Ravens

22:15

where whether it's gonna be the

22:17

right or left side or is it just not got

22:20

conversation not gotten specific yet with that,

22:23

and.

22:23

That hasn't gotten really specific obviously.

22:26

I think you know, I played right the

22:28

majority of my career with my starts, but I'm

22:31

flexible to just come in and compete for both.

22:33

You know, that's my main thing.

22:34

I just want to come in and compete and earn

22:36

the respect of my teammates and the

22:38

coaches.

22:38

And yeah,

22:41

we'll go.

22:41

To Kyle Barber.

22:45

Hey, Roderick, congratulations. You

22:47

know in past protecting for Michael Pennix,

22:50

being a left handed quarterback on the right side, you're

22:52

essentially protecting his blind side.

22:54

Just how translatable is that

22:56

for your game on the right side with with pass

22:59

protection. Do you think that kind of gave you a benefit

23:01

in refining your past skill pass protection

23:03

skills?

23:04

Absolutely?

23:04

I mean just knowing your blind side, you know, you

23:07

got to sharpen up your edges. You know, you

23:09

can't get loose on an edge and give

23:11

up an edge pressure because

23:13

you know quarterbacks I could be able to see it, but

23:16

I mean there's just those added extra I

23:18

don't even think it's pressure to me. I think it's it's

23:20

a privilege, you know, those privileges

23:22

that come with the blindside. And you know, especially

23:25

my two years of starting and having that left

23:27

handed quarterback, you know, I ate all that pressure

23:30

up and took it for all

23:32

those worth so yeah.

23:35

Ryan Mank and then Jonash Schaeffer.

23:38

Yeah, Roger.

23:38

One thing the draft pundits talked about

23:41

is is your weight at three ten

23:43

at year pro Day? Is that something are you looking to

23:45

put on more weight or is that where you feel comfortable

23:47

because of your great mobility.

23:49

Yeah, Like you said, I just want to I

23:51

just want to make sure I'm mobile, I feel athletic,

23:54

So I can probably range from three to fifteen to three

23:56

oh five.

23:58

It really doesn't matter.

23:59

I just want to feel strong, especially

24:01

mobile, feel athletic on the edge,

24:03

and get out in space. So that's

24:05

my main thing. So if that's three fifteen, three twenty

24:07

three ten, my weight can vary.

24:11

I'm not like one strong, one

24:13

strong way I could it could varies as

24:15

long as I feel good at that weight running around

24:17

and taking sets and getting off on runs.

24:20

I feel ready.

24:23

Hey Roger, congratulations. Was there

24:25

a offensive lineman for you growing

24:28

up who you modeled your game after? And then

24:31

secondly, did you kind of get a sense

24:33

from the Ravens whether they would encourage

24:35

your kind of aggressive style on pass

24:37

sets? I mean, you'd be bringing the the forty

24:39

four Special to Baltimore. Is that a little bit too far

24:41

down the road.

24:42

Yeah, I mean absolutely, I just want to

24:44

come in and compete right

24:47

away, you know whether obviously

24:50

I gotta use the technique that coach

24:53

once to.

24:53

Install, and I you know, well, coach

24:56

has a really good.

24:56

Plan for offensive linemen that

24:58

come in and you grown up, I watched

25:01

a lot of the Joe stalies.

25:03

You know, I'm thankful to have him in my corner

25:05

training.

25:06

And uh, you know, I've heard stories about my old

25:09

uh DE line coach in high school.

25:11

His name is Travis Kirski. He was

25:14

UCLA teammates with Jonathan.

25:15

Ogden, and you know

25:17

that's uh he he told me crazy stories

25:19

of how Jonathan Ogden was such

25:21

a legend over here, and uh, yeah.

25:24

Did you ever get to meet Ogden?

25:26

No?

25:26

I didn't. I I've heard.

25:28

Uh he's one of the biggest humans, at least my

25:30

D line coaches I've met. And Travis

25:32

Kirsky was not a small individual, to say

25:35

the least.

25:35

So we'll

25:37

go to Brian Whacker and then close it out with Jeff

25:39

Curiebeck.

25:42

Roger, I know you're also a pretty good basketball player

25:44

back in high school.

25:46

Just how much one

25:49

did that help?

25:50

You know in terms of your full work and ability

25:53

into how do you think that translates,

25:57

you know, to your skill set.

25:58

Yeah? Absolutely.

26:00

You know, going

26:03

back to my old line meetings with Coach Huff, you

26:05

know, in the old line room,

26:07

basically what would happen was He's

26:09

like, get to a good point, get get to a good position

26:12

to punch and pass pro and then once you're there,

26:14

it's basically just playing basketball with them. And that for me just

26:16

clicked right away. Like you said, you

26:18

know, whether that's your guarding the guy in the

26:20

perimeter and interior, you

26:23

block a guy with your feet first, and.

26:25

I find that very very true with offensive

26:27

line play.

26:28

So I mean that basketball background background

26:30

definitely helps me out.

26:33

A ton.

26:34

So did you have a favorite basketball player

26:36

ground up?

26:39

I wouldn't say I really had one, but I've

26:42

really being a colorad of kid,

26:44

and uh, you know, I've really come

26:46

to uh loved Jokic's game, just

26:49

how he plays and how he dominates and

26:51

it makes it look so easy. You

26:54

know, I think just bringing those same uh skill

26:56

traits to offensive line and uh,

26:59

you know, I'd love to and they and make it make

27:01

it look easy.

27:01

So we

27:05

lastly, let's close it out with outside linebacker

27:07

A Lisa isaac whose the Ravens took in

27:10

the third round to pick number ninety three.

27:13

Congratulations. Just just

27:15

want to get your take on on joining

27:17

the Ravens. Were they a team that you felt

27:19

like, you know, was coming after you the whole time,

27:21

that you had a good chance of Lanta with or what's

27:23

the what's the emotions?

27:25

I mean, it was kind of you know, surprise when you

27:28

had a good feeling of you know, the Ravens had,

27:30

you know, they had high hopes for

27:32

me, and you know they don't me, so you

27:34

know, I thought they it was a good bit. And you know

27:36

I have one of my former teammates,

27:38

Ado Fine anyway, so you know he

27:41

helped with me to play State.

27:42

So that's when we you know, we were close.

27:44

So just seeing that connect thing and seeing how

27:47

you know, just how it ended up happening

27:49

to me.

27:51

We're going to Gianahan.

27:55

Hi, Lisa, congrats. I know Eric

27:57

Acosta said that he was up there for

28:00

the West Virginia game visiting his daughter. Got

28:02

to see you.

28:02

But did you talking during

28:05

that it?

28:05

And I guess what is it like having a GM whose daughter

28:08

was a I guess a classmate

28:10

of yours.

28:12

Actually I didn't see it. Talked to

28:14

him during that game.

28:15

But that's crazy, like the amount of the nexting

28:17

that the Ravens have with play State and just how

28:19

many familiar pacing and

28:21

just connexing is.

28:22

A small world. So just the pit

28:24

itself piece is perfect.

28:28

Go to Brian Whacker, Hey,

28:31

congratulations, two quick things.

28:33

How familiar are you with Adafi

28:36

Alway? And and you know have you

28:38

talked to him much or any of that sort of thing.

28:41

Yeah, I'm very familiar with him.

28:43

You helped keep me the Penn State Models,

28:45

and then we ended up playing together a couple of years

28:48

and we're to the Ravens,

28:50

so you know, we're real tight. You know, some

28:53

similar area to me, so you know we have a lot of comiction

28:56

there, you know. Just so he was a great,

28:58

great, great team, a great big butt to

29:00

me, permanent to the Tain States. You

29:02

know, I just think him to you know, hap to me when

29:04

I first got there. They learning and now

29:07

now for it to come to the circles, it's it's

29:10

it's a very unique situation.

29:13

And then just secondly curious how

29:15

you're you know, your relationship with

29:18

with your siblings kind

29:21

of impacted you growing up and so forth,

29:23

and and what kind of relationship you have with

29:25

them.

29:27

Uh, you know, we're all.

29:28

Close and they have their own

29:30

verbally, So people may think

29:32

that it's it's prowent being communicated them or

29:34

whatnot. But I feel like, just you know,

29:36

obviously going up within my whole life. They're just in your

29:38

siblings. That's how I look my brother my sister,

29:41

because my brothers my sister. So it's

29:45

just I mean, I check think the same. So it's nothing,

29:47

nothing new, you know. I feel like, you

29:50

know, just like how you would teach your brother and talk to your brother.

29:53

You know, we laugh, we joke, we uh, you

29:55

know, we play fight, you.

29:56

Know, just everything.

29:57

So I love him to beat and you

29:59

know, I think things, you know, just the motivation

30:01

and inspiration to me in my lifetime.

30:05

They just everything.

30:06

I think that everything they've been long, say,

30:08

the leasing any game to do, We'll

30:11

go to Clifton Brown.

30:14

Yeah, congratulations at

30:16

least a little like things really clicked for

30:18

you to your last couple of years at Penn State. Why

30:22

do you think things clicked for you? And do you think

30:24

that you're really kind of just scratching the surface,

30:27

so to speak, because you know, you kind of didn't

30:29

have the you know early starting.

30:31

Football that a lot of guys did, right.

30:34

I feel like after I got hurt that

30:36

so much on one season and we'll just you know, open.

30:38

My mind to a lot.

30:39

You know, this is like you being able to watch more

30:42

and not have they thigured to do certain

30:44

things, and it puts a newer.

30:46

Train on your on your mindset.

30:48

And that's kind of what I've begun to field at that time

30:50

in that year, and it made my whole standard.

30:53

And I think back that from the front of two season

30:55

and getting rolling into that teage on the season, I mean,

30:58

you know, kind of building on what I taxed and I took from

31:02

and from just from just to go on from the agy

31:04

the adversity and taught me a lot it is good

31:06

and so you're using all of that and

31:09

the kind of making a bull of positivity

31:11

from it kind of slung me into that t th season where

31:14

I was just extra confident, you

31:16

know, far away from the injury. You know,

31:18

a great, great coaching and you

31:20

know better kind of better strung

31:22

one like you last year.

31:24

So that was appetit to that.

31:29

It didn't a lot of it.

31:31

We'll go to creative Parks and then Garrett Downing.

31:35

DSA.

31:35

You kind of alluded to it a bit,

31:38

but I wanted to ask you, just bouncing back from that Achilles

31:40

injury and just the perseverance that it took

31:43

and the adversity that you faced, how do you think

31:45

that that will help you as you move forward

31:47

to the next level.

31:49

It's gonna help me tremendously.

31:51

I feel like a diversity I wanted

31:53

to live up the words may be

31:55

something Malaga

31:57

things and it won't really be much of a much

32:00

of a hittup because I'm I'm gonna find a

32:02

way to make that making something out and

32:04

get the best out of it.

32:05

You know, it's a little bad. I

32:07

feel like it just it just blews your mind to

32:09

be able to handle adversity.

32:11

Is in the big waves, Yeah,

32:14

I mean there's a lot of a lot of great things that come

32:16

from I don't want to make it seem like it's big

32:18

to get hurt, but they do a lot of good things to each

32:20

other.

32:20

Luke, and I'm an injuries in

32:25

these congratulations is that? I guess?

32:27

How would you describe yourself

32:29

as a player?

32:30

What the Ravens are getting and you I.

32:33

Would say, I'm just a disruptive on very

32:35

lengthy, bandy pitches. It's

32:38

violent play like very

32:40

versatilele and you know, I can't make

32:42

make plays some dropping they play some ruts

32:45

and they play from in the London.

32:47

So I'm just a very versatile player the

32:49

plug and play anywhere.

32:52

And I just feel like I bring a lot to

32:54

the Ravens and you know they're obviously.

32:56

A great tradition here, so I'm great. I'm

32:59

just excited and uncle, all.

33:00

These prooven have been played, just

33:02

get better and you know what I think to be the best

33:04

version of myself that I mean, We'll.

33:07

Go to Kyle Phoenix and then Childs Walker.

33:11

He congratulations, Lisa.

33:13

Is there a quarterback that you are

33:15

most hoping to get a sack against? Is there

33:17

anybody that comes to mind that you're excited about

33:20

now that you're here.

33:21

I need I need that.

33:22

My home sick and I need that need

33:25

that. I

33:28

need that job I liked.

33:31

I like explaining the bigger

33:34

bodies. So he's

33:36

kind of outyety, so it will give me a little

33:38

bit of challenge and more back.

33:42

M hm, congratulations.

33:47

Curious do you do you know much about about

33:49

Chuck Smith? Who is kind of

33:51

the the past Rush expert on the on

33:53

the coaching staff.

33:54

And is it exciting to you.

33:55

The idea of kind of kind of getting in the lab

33:57

with somebody who will really drill down on the specific

34:00

the specifics of that croft.

34:02

Oh definitely. I've heard a lot about him throughout

34:04

my throughout my college career.

34:06

I've always heard the name Chuck Smick, Chuck Smith,

34:08

and it's never is able to put a face to it.

34:10

So now you know just how it came from the circle,

34:12

I'm able to working for one.

34:15

So it's just amazing and I'm just

34:17

excited to you.

34:18

Know, learn from you know, like like you said, a lot

34:20

of great coaches want to experience.

34:22

So I'm just excited to you know, just

34:25

improve myself and met

34:27

all these exciting coaches.

34:31

We'll go to Ryan mink.

34:35

Easy.

34:35

I'm just curious about the competition you have with

34:38

Chopp Robinson, your teammate out in Penn State,

34:40

and do you expect a similar competition now

34:42

reuniting with a Dope.

34:44

Oh yeah, definitely definitely.

34:46

I Mean before Top came, you know, me

34:48

and me and Dophin bro It's

34:51

you know, it's I'm excited to kind of re unite

34:54

that and you know, get some funny

34:56

topic.

34:56

Six are going again and it's

34:58

a lead more sweeter than this, say he

35:01

just excited.

35:03

Giannah.

35:07

Between you know, Adolphe

35:10

being on the team and the Ravens defensive

35:12

success. I'm curious how much you watch him

35:14

through this last season if anything stuck

35:16

out to you about why they found

35:18

so much success and why you think you would fit

35:20

in with all that.

35:22

Yeah, Doctor is a hell of a player.

35:24

And you know, I've been watching sixty pay from the

35:26

state, so seeing how he's

35:28

the goal and seeing the praise that he's making

35:30

on the Ravens his first year with the year,

35:34

it's amazing and miss you know, the type

35:36

of caliber playing years.

35:37

You know that he's even to minis athletes.

35:40

You know you have a tennis state set that you know

35:42

you can lead them anywhere.

35:43

The Hathles, So just.

35:45

Taking taking certain things from his game, seeing

35:48

how he kind of approaches tackles in his

35:50

hands and just kind

35:52

of takes certain certain news from

35:54

him that I feel like, you know, it's gonna it

35:56

can fit in my two that I feel like we have a singular similar

35:59

skill set and so I can kind of see

36:01

some many moves, which is why

36:03

you know so much, because you

36:05

do a lot of things so much similar, and so he's

36:08

excited to you know, you're not my boy.

36:11

We can do two more. We'll go Jonas and then

36:14

Nikhil. You close us out.

36:17

Hey, Desa, congrats.

36:18

I think Chopp said during the pre draft process

36:20

that he was actually a Ravens fan.

36:21

I know he obviously grew up in Maryland.

36:23

Has he reached out to you tonight, uh, in

36:25

any way to kind of extend his congratulations to

36:27

you.

36:28

Yeah, he actually tried poll me while I was on this interview,

36:30

So that's a big time out.

36:34

But yeah, I'm pretty sure that you know, excited

36:36

that I'm in his home child, no

36:41

doubt. You know, it's it's it's

36:43

a great day. It's a great baba.

36:47

Hidsa. Congratulations, Welcome to Baltimore.

36:50

Obviously, the Ravens of Lamar Jackson Dereck Henry

36:52

now strong offensive identity, but for the

36:55

since the franchise was founded, really it's been a very

36:57

defensive oriented franchise. How

36:59

do you feel joining and what kind of legacy do you want

37:01

to leave?

37:03

This exciting just it's all about being a raven

37:06

growing up. You know, I didn't play

37:08

football. You meet a nice

37:10

Steeds, but the one team that constantly

37:12

heard was the raven You know, Baltimore

37:14

Ravens.

37:15

And Ogonham and Tom when ray Lewison.

37:17

Doing these things, so you know it was it's

37:19

a it's a very history franchise and

37:21

you know, I'm just excited to doing ex edition

37:23

is you know, be the best player

37:25

I can be in the scene, contribute

37:28

to the team.

37:32

So it's clear that the Ravens are excited about

37:34

the second round of the draft, and as Eric Costa talked

37:36

about Friday night, they feel like the board

37:38

is following pretty much perfectly in

37:41

terms of how the Ravens are built,

37:43

the needs that they have, and what it means

37:45

for this team moving forward. Also, now

37:47

they go into Day three having checked

37:50

off some of the biggest remaining needs

37:52

on this roster, and they have a lot of freedom

37:54

and some picks on Saturday,

37:56

so Eric can get creative about

37:59

how he uses those pits and we'll see

38:01

what tricks he has up his sleeve Saturday

38:04

afternoon as the draft concludes. Thanks

38:06

so much for listening to the Ravens Press Past podcast.

38:08

38:10

recaps of everything happening over

tomorrow.
