A group of us saw this movie last night. It stars Michael Cera and Kat Dennings and is directed by Peter Sollett.
I’ve been really lucky lately to have seen so many good movies in a short amount of time. I’m glad I can add this one to the list. It is very much in the “indie” vain, the hand drawn opening credits was a big clue, but that just makes it better.
It’s basically a story about how two teens meet in New York one night and the strange story that follows. Of course there is more to it than that. I just hate giving anything away when you should do yourself a favor and go see it.
I do have a few things I would like to say about related topics though.
1. I’m sick of people saying Michael Cera is a bad actor or that he is stuck because he does the same type of rolls. That’s what he is good at. There are lots of actors who do the same type of rolls because they do it best. If your doing a romantic comedy with Rachel McAdams, you don’t call Steven Seagal to co star.
2. This is nothing like Juno, unless you mean indie vibe teen comedy. And, if that is what you mean, there are a LOT of Juno’s. I saw that movie, and at no point did she and her unborn baby drive through the streets of New York all night looking for a band and a drunk girl.
3. Get over the fact that they are hip teens, ok? It will save every one a lot of time. Also, the music was good so stop complaining.
I’ll admit, this movies charm won me over more than the actual plot, but I think that is the strength of movies like this.
If you like these kinds of movies, the by all means go see it. If you don’t, then there is nothing for you here, sorry. I personally give this movie a 9 out or 10.
