The first of the uncovered letters from TW to Louise as he courted her in the early months of 1914. TW was assuredly a quiet romantic of great warmth & humor but interestingly, even my father was unaware that such sentimental letters even survived.  He once stated to me; ” I have never seen or heard of Pa’s letters to Ma and, frankly, I’m surprised he wrote them.  I remember Ma saying that when they were courting, Pa never gave her anything she could save as a keepsake.  If he gave her a box of chocolates, for example, he dumped them into a paper bag so she wouldn’t have the box to save as a memento”
