RB082: The Minimum Effective Dose for a Healthy Lifestyle with Justin Manning

Today's podcast episode features Justin Manning who has been on the show a number of times. I have a ton of respect for what Justin is about and what he is doing in the world of health and fitness. In this episode, Justin and I talk about some really important health and wellness topics that I am stoked to share with you. First we talk about the importance of having a healthy mindset and balance when it comes to social situations and eating. Justin recommends having the 90/10 rule- 90% of the time you are practicing healthy eating and mindset and 10% of the time (once or twice a month) being able to enjoy a meal and invest in the company you are with. 

Exploring nature is something that both Justin and I enjoy more than spending time in a crowded gym. We talk about finding fulfillment in exploring nature and how that can lead to meeting new people and finding new relationships.

Our discussion leads into talking about how healing nature can be! It really makes you realize what you're missing when you don't have technology! Justin throws out an awesome challenge to un-domesticate yourself and learn to find what brings fulfillment and satisfaction in life, turning you from a chihuahua to a lion! 

Just because you can't be like Justin and go on crazy long trips and be all wild doesn't mean you are stuck. I am all about finding the 1% that you can start to do now to find freedom from domestication. It even goes along with changing your body- don't think big picture, just start small. Take it one small step at a time! Everyone starts as a novice or newbie at one point- don't put a lot of pressure on yourself to be perfect all at once. 

Justin's tips for living well:

Get the most bang for your buck- sprinkle in activity throughout your day
Cap sugars for optimum energy and leanness (aim for 50 grams/day)
Focus on real life, not derivatives of life
If you're traveling, get food from a grocery store
Start your day making good decisions about food

Of course, this is Justin's "personal eating and lifestyle code." Just because he can eat 50 grams of sugar a day doesn't mean that will work for you. Personalize!
