Today’s episode is a two-part interview featuring Michael McHenry of Even Stevens Sandwiches and Jennifer Caraway of Joy Bus Diner. Both interviewees and restaurant concepts are operating to serve a higher purpose, this episode will not be short on passion and inspiration.

Even Stevens is a sandwich shop with a cause, its mantra is “Eat to Give” donating one sandwich for every sandwich sold. Even Stevens just recently reached a huge milestone by selling their one millionth sandwich and donating their one millionth sandwich. We discuss how they are the first in the industry to directly associate revenue with social impact and how you build a purposeful business, community, and culture in the restaurant industry.

The second part of the episode is an interview with Jennifer Caraway of Joy Bus Diner, Joy Bus Diner delivers pre-made meals to people battling against cancer, all meals are prepared on site at her diner, delivered by volunteers and the diner is staffed predominately by volunteers. Proceeds from the diner go to funding their delivery business. The restaurant and foundation is named after Jennifer’s dear friend Joy who lost her own battle with cancer, Jennifer’s way to comfort and support her friend was through food, that experience inspired Jennifer to form Joy Bus Diner which has created a beautiful community of giving, volunteers and inspiration.
