Sermon Series: “Power and Pentecost”

Sermon: “Who is the Holy Spirit?”

Jesus promises the Holy Spirit to his disciples in this scripture passage. It is a different image than that of Pentecost. Jesus describes the Spirit as the “advocate”. With the Spirit, we are not orphans. With the Spirit, we are to obey. We have an “advocate”. The images are not of coming flames but of abiding everyday power to do what we are called to do. Most of us are not as familiar with the Third Person of the Trinity. The sermon will remind us of the priority and presence of the Spirit to empower our everyday lives.
