Being grateful is the appropriate response to God for all He has done for us. President Abraham Lincoln established Thanksgiving as a national holiday in 1863, setting apart the last Thursday of November as a special day for our nation. The President said it was to be a "day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens." He declared, "It has seemed to me fit and proper that God should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice, by the whole American people."
