Because I'm

1:29

doing the same thing . I'm feeling this melancholy

1:31

Gosh First

1:38

a weekend .

5:29

, I think it was very clever of you .

5:31

I know our friends can't see the video

5:33

, but it was very clever of you to

5:35

wait for greg to get up and walk away before

5:38

you mentioned . Oh , he's back . We'll just have to say the u word . Okay , we'll just

5:40

have to call it that all right , because he's back . You know , we don't want

5:42

, you don't want him to hear any more of that . We'll just have to say the U word . Okay , we'll just

5:44

have to call it that All right , because he's back now . We

5:47

don't want him to hear any more of that . Magicboundtravelcom

5:51

is the website . Check

5:53

it out On

5:55

a personal level . Apologies and

5:57

alibis . I just need to get caught

5:59

up , friends . I

6:02

love hearing from all of you

6:04

, whether it's on Facebook , whether it's through one

6:06

of our message platforms , but

6:08

right now I am way behind

6:10

. So I want to get caught

6:12

up and acknowledge some of

6:14

the things that you've been sending and some of the things

6:17

that we've been talking about . I'll get there eventually

6:19

. Hey

6:21

, you know we just ended

6:23

a race season . Hey , you

6:26

know we just ended a race

6:28

season . So

6:36

I've got this little interactive spreadsheet in front of me that tells me how many days

6:38

we are to the next expo , how many days we are to this and that

6:40

. Do you realize ? We are only 12 days

6:42

away from

6:44

the start of the Jeff Galloway training

6:46

plan , if you were doing one

6:48

of the long events at Disneyland

6:51

Halloween .

6:53

Goodness gracious .

6:55

I didn't , you know . I sat down . I said I need

6:57

to check this out to see when it's going to

6:59

be Figuring it would be in late

7:02

May , early June . Nope , it

7:04

is . Let's see . This is Thursday

7:07

. It's not this Tuesday , it's

7:09

the week after 12 days away

7:11

, the training begins

7:13

. So it

7:15

won't be that bad guys , we'll be

7:17

back together before long . Well

7:25

, the big topic on our minds and of course , not all of us here at the podcast tonight were there , but I

7:28

expect , john and Lexi , I expect you to pop in with questions . Jack

7:31

and Greg and I were

7:33

there for Springtime Surprise and

7:35

, oh my goodness , words

7:41

fail me and

7:43

I know a lot of words and

7:48

at a point they fail

7:50

me . We'll

7:52

talk specifically about

7:54

the meetup , but

7:56

I'm going to start there just for that one , because that's

7:59

the one where I was just totally blown

8:02

away . This is a

8:04

smaller race weekend . It

8:07

was hot . Saturday

8:10

afternoon I think the temperature got up to 92

8:12

or so . Boy , that was a human

8:14

meetup . Yep , yeah , and

8:20

it was . The humidity was up . I

8:22

didn't feel it too badly , but it was . I looked at the numbers and the humidity was up . I didn't

8:24

feel it too badly , but it was . I looked at the numbers and the humidity

8:27

was up . But , my

8:29

friends , you never , ever , ever

8:31

disappoint . So hey , let's

8:34

kick it off . Anybody do yoga ? Nope

8:37

, okay . Okay

8:40

, they had yoga . Hope you had a good time Expo

8:44

day . I was actually there pretty

8:47

close to the opening , which is unusual for me , but

8:51

I've been chatting for a while

8:53

now . Who

8:56

had a good story or something to talk about

8:58

from Thursday at

9:01

the Race Expo ? I ?

9:02

don't think there was anything in

9:05

particular that was

9:09

super unique . But

9:11

that being said though , it

9:14

was still wonderful , as always , the

9:17

fact that you bump into

9:19

so many friends

9:22

, whether that's from

9:24

the Expo side of things , talking

9:26

at the Galloway booth or going

9:28

up to see Pam and Fluffy Fizzies or whatever . I

9:30

know we say it every recap

9:32

episode that this is the start

9:34

of the family reunion . Yeah

9:37

, and this is , and this was just another

9:39

perfect example of that . Now I

9:41

will say the one surprising thing was

9:45

I was not at the meetup

9:47

nearly as long as

9:49

I have been in past years

9:51

, I want to say probably from

9:54

start to finish . I

9:57

was maybe there three

9:59

hours or so , which is

10:02

considerably less than like hours

10:06

or so , which is considerably less

10:09

than , say , marathon Weekend , for example . But

10:13

the one thing and now that I'm talking , the one thing that did surprise me about

10:15

this meetup is how slammed it was , especially

10:18

in the afternoon on Thursday . I

10:20

kept recollecting in my head

10:22

and comparing last

10:24

year to this year . I think

10:26

my virtual queue got called

10:28

around the same time , like just before lunchtime

10:31

, and I remember walking

10:34

into the merchandise area . They

10:36

weren't even using that back room

10:38

. It was just . You know , you walk

10:41

the mile and a half around the

10:43

underground concourse or whatever and

10:45

then just went right to the expo . Both

10:48

sides of that were filled

10:51

with people . It was incredible

10:53

to see , I mean , so many people that

10:56

probably

10:59

that room was like 20 degrees warmer

11:01

than the floor

11:03

where all the merchandise was and everything like that

11:05

. Um , so that was absolutely

11:08

wild um to experience

11:10

. Again , I thought they did

11:12

a really nice job with the merch . Um , nothing

11:15

was really speaking to me . I just I grabbed

11:18

the the general

11:20

weekend shirt . Um , you know , once again , we know

11:22

the hot item this year was the

11:24

annual pass holder shirt and by the time

11:27

. By the time I got there , like I said

11:29

, I probably got in there around 12 , 30

11:31

or so and there was

11:33

like a total of three shirts , and I think

11:35

it was . One was an extra small and the other

11:37

two were three x's or something like that . So

11:40

that stuff just continues

11:42

to fly .

11:43

They were gone by the time I got there

11:45

. I went back , as I frequently

11:47

do . I went back on Saturday . They

11:50

had some Spirit jerseys and

11:53

they had some T-shirts for the annual

11:55

pass holders . I wanted to get one

11:57

Spirit jersey . I'm not going to

11:59

get because I'm not going to wear it here more than two

12:01

days a year , but I wanted

12:04

a T-shirt . They had exactly . They

12:06

had small and they had triple X and

12:09

that was it . So that

12:11

was nothing doing there

12:13

. I

12:16

always have fun at the expo . Jack , when did you get

12:18

in ? Did you get to the expo on Thursday or

12:20

was it later ?

12:21

Yeah , I didn't get to go on Thursday . I flew in

12:23

Saturday morning but I got

12:25

to work the booth .

12:27

That's right . How'd that go ?

12:29

Yeah , I got to work the booth for the Galloway

12:32

pacing area and where you can meet Jeff . That

12:35

was a lot of fun , very interesting

12:37

, because I feel like I

12:40

know I say this later on , but I

12:42

feel like that I was a pacer

12:45

in training , because

12:47

there's so much to learn and for someone like

12:49

me who doesn't run Galloway , pacing

12:53

Galloway , I knew it was going to be a different

12:55

experience , but

12:57

working the booth was good because a lot of rising

13:00

runners came in over and said hi , I

13:02

got to talk to so many people

13:04

who had questions about pacing and

13:07

luckily they were easy enough questions for me

13:09

to ask which the main one was so

13:12

okay . So if I'm pacing , for

13:14

example , I was originally scheduled a

13:16

nine minute pace mile . So if you're pacing

13:19

nine minutes , what are you running during

13:21

your run ? And it's

13:23

like well , so

13:25

more than likely because of the way

13:28

the mile is set up and how everything could change

13:30

per mile based off of your walking breaks if

13:32

one gets added to the next one , because of just how

13:34

it times out . I mean for , for

13:36

example , for a nine minute , you're probably running anywhere

13:38

between an eight 20 to an

13:40

eight 30 minute mile . Um , during

13:43

the running portions , um , which

13:45

for that um pace

13:48

it was like a two minute run and 30 second walk

13:50

. And I will say

13:52

I was kind of like I

13:55

had a little laugh because one guy

13:57

who I was chatting with , he had a really cute dog

13:59

. I was like , oh , it's so cute and we were

14:01

chatting about , you know , pacing . And

14:03

he was like , yeah , I think I might try for the nine

14:05

minute pace and I said , oh , really , that's

14:08

gonna be with me . And he said , oh

14:11

, you . And then

14:13

we kind of I kind of laughed with him . I was

14:15

like , okay , well , I mean

14:17

I could pace a nine minute mile . He's like , oh

14:19

, okay , but maybe

14:22

I just don't look like I could , I don't know , I don't

14:24

know .

14:25

Jackie , you look like you could to me . I

14:27

know you better , but you look like you

14:29

could to me .

14:30

Yeah , I met so many wonderful people

14:32

and I got to meet , finally , all

14:34

the other Galloway Pacers , because I don't think I've

14:36

ever really talked . I know I talked to a

14:38

few of them before , but this was my

14:40

first time really meeting some of them and

14:42

getting a chance to truly have a conversation with

14:45

them . And I got to meet my pacing

14:47

partner , hamish , who was really , really funny

14:49

and he's like I'm going to take you there . I think I worried

14:51

him a little bit when I said it's

14:53

going to be hot . I don't know , it's going to

14:55

be interesting . He's like you've ran

14:57

a nine-minute mile before . I was like , yes , I have

15:00

, but I'm so nervous . But

15:02

in terms of doing the booth , it was a lot of fun

15:05

. I can't wait for my next experience . And I

15:07

got a free gym boss Bob .

15:09

Oh good .

15:12

Yeah , that thing beats

15:14

so loud but in terms of if you guys are going to go on the

15:16

last day it was completely dead

15:18

in the Disney merchandise area . It also felt

15:20

completely naked , but

15:24

one of the cool things out that I found out that day because I met up

15:26

with Mark , who is also one of the pacers , but we've

15:28

had him on before . And

15:30

did you know that you could purchase

15:33

the signs ?

15:34

Yes , I did know that .

15:35

I didn't know that they're like what , 60 bucks or

15:37

something like that . But yeah , I had no clue . You do it

15:39

on the last day . Yeah , how cool is that

15:42

.

15:42

Yeah , you see people walking around carrying signs

15:44

. Yeah , yeah , on their way out of the park

15:46

. I did know that . Well , jack , that's cool

15:48

. We're going to talk about that pacing bit a

15:50

little bit later on , but

15:53

I'm proud of you and that

15:55

would be fun . Thank you . The Rise

15:57

and Run community is pretty well represented amongst

15:59

the pacers , I

16:12

know , so I'm proud of that too . All right , let's see . That's thursday , friday , 5k 2 , 30

16:14

, 3 o'clock in the morning . There we are . It's

16:18

dark , it's not raining , that's

16:20

good , it's pretty warm . There

16:23

were some people with mylar blankets

16:25

. Riley , not

16:27

Riley John from

16:30

the stage , if you have a mylar

16:32

blanket , why in the world

16:34

would you have a mylar blanket ? But

16:39

some people did 5K

16:41

thoughts . We got together a bunch of us us

16:44

and walked that thing together .

16:46

That was fun well , I I actually

16:48

like the the start off the 5k conversation

16:50

because my memories

16:53

of the 5k started before

16:55

I even got on the bus . Uh

16:57

, as many people in the community know

17:00

, um , I had the distinct

17:02

honor , dare

17:04

I say , pleasure , of

17:07

rooming , uh , this entire weekend

17:09

with the one and only mr

17:11

hollywood and oh goodness and

17:14

for weeks he

17:16

kept dropping hints

17:19

about what his , his 5k costume

17:21

was going to be , but

17:23

he would refuse to tell me . And

17:27

he woke me up as as

17:29

a as a good roommate does , and

17:32

he goes okay , I'm gonna go

17:34

put on my costume to

17:37

the to the point where he was putting

17:39

on a show . He literally

17:41

drew the curtains between

17:44

the bathroom area and the

17:46

bedroom and then

17:48

proceeded to do this dramatic

17:50

opening to reveal

17:52

him in the mermaid

17:54

tail , wearing a bikini

17:57

top made of starfish . Yeah , it

17:59

almost looked like starfish pasties , you

18:01

know yes absolutely , and

18:04

the fact that that

18:06

reveal was probably one of the

18:08

first things that I saw that

18:11

entire day . Yeah , I knew I

18:13

was in for a heck of a day yeah but

18:15

, but . But as well , as we'll talk over

18:17

the course of this weekend . The

18:19

fact that tony forgot to pack shirts

18:22

was

18:25

was very thematic for

18:27

the entire weekend

18:29

.

18:30

He's awesome yeah , oh

18:33

well , tinker Bob was back for the five

18:35

oh , yes , and that is the other one , yes

18:37

, that was fun . Tinker Bob

18:39

was almost lost in the crowd of Tinkerbells

18:42

, though , although I think I was taller than all the others

18:44

, because the only other

18:46

guy I saw Almost lost in the crowd of Tinkerbells , though

18:49

, although I think I was taller than all the others Because the only other guy

18:51

I saw dressed as Tinkerbell was our friend Tom yeah , tom from Tom Stokes

18:53

, and he had the same

18:55

wig and the same tutu . I have

18:57

no idea how people could tell us apart , except

19:00

he had blue lipstick on . But

19:05

other than that you know we looked identical . I thought

19:07

what are you laughing at ?

19:09

Oh , I laughed at Greg . He

19:11

laughed .

19:15

I was glad to see Tom there . I

19:17

know he's there all the time but I usually

19:20

miss him somehow . But I

19:22

got to see him before and after the race this time . It was

19:24

fun .

19:25

I do have to say one comment about to see him before and after the race

19:27

. This time it was fun . I

19:35

do have to say one comment about Tom that I thought was adorable for the

19:37

not just the 5K but the entire weekend is . You know , when we

19:39

had him and Adam on a couple of weeks ago , you know Adam was telling us about

19:41

how you know he got his dates mixed up or whatever and playing this cruise , thinking that

19:43

springtime was going to be a different weekend and all that jazz Tom

19:46

for all three races , carried

19:49

with him a plush

19:51

Stormtrooper doll and

19:54

put a tutu on

19:56

the doll .

19:57

I didn't notice .

19:58

Yeah , so I thought that was an

20:00

absolute wonderful homage to Adam for

20:03

the entire weekend . But going back to what you

20:05

said before , bob , it was so wonderful

20:08

. We had this one big group costume of

20:10

Peter Pan , we had everyone

20:12

, we had all the darling children and we had

20:15

. Tinkerbell

20:17

and Pan and Pan Shadow . But

20:21

there's one factor of this entire

20:23

5K that needs to be discussed

20:26

, and that is

20:28

we had somebody

20:30

in our group who

20:32

had a corral for the

20:34

5K . Anybody

20:36

want to take a guess ? Who

20:39

had that bib ?

20:40

It's cheating . I know the answer . Go for

20:42

it , bob . Miss Rebecca

20:45

the cookie lady had that bib and I have a theory

20:47

. I have a theory . My

20:50

theory is that someone at Run Disney

20:52

not only listens to the podcast

20:55

but attends our meetups

20:57

and said , oh , that's

20:59

Becky who makes the cookies . I'll put her an A correct

21:01

. But

21:04

yeah , becky had an A bib , becky had an a

21:06

bib . I had a b-bib for the weekend .

21:08

That surprised me too , boys and girls

21:11

, because my

21:13

I have no proof of time at this

21:15

time , and yet I had

21:17

a b corral for the weekend so

21:20

, but it was interesting because I know we

21:22

had , you know , we had gathered the group of

21:24

us and obviously we all wanted to go out together

21:26

and spend the entire race together , and

21:29

so we were analyzing bibs and then we

21:31

thought our

21:33

last letter was C . But then I want

21:36

to say one person had D , yeah

21:38

one or two , I don't remember . Yeah , so we

21:40

fell back to D . But then , the more and

21:42

more I thought about it , I'm

21:44

like how cool would it have been . You

21:47

know I was teasing Becky about this . I was like

21:49

, Becky , you should go out of

21:51

A and just walk

21:53

, and the rest of us will

21:55

leave out of D and let's see

21:57

if we can catch you on the course . I thought that

21:59

would have been a wonderful challenge .

22:01

It might have been .

22:05

But obviously I know she likes to enjoy in the fun and frivolity that

22:07

we all have together . So , yeah , so it was . It was a blast , you

22:09

know , course , usual course , as always

22:11

, but , um , you know , just being

22:13

able to be together as a group and then doing

22:15

our following the leader , um

22:18

, march across the finish line was

22:20

, uh was pretty special as well I got a

22:22

chance to explain to riley before the the race that

22:24

I wasn't really .

22:26

He thought I was Tinkerbell . I

22:29

explained that I was no , in fact , tinker Bob . Tinker

22:31

Bob is actually Tinkerbell's uncle

22:33

, tinkerbell's very

22:35

small . I'm not , and

22:37

that worked . We also you're

22:40

talking about corral placements , greg . We

22:42

have a new rise and run term

22:45

. Oh , yes , yeah

22:47

. As we were heading to the corrals , some

22:50

of our friends drifted off towards the porta

22:53

potties and when

22:55

I asked what corral they were going to , they

22:57

pointed over there and I said oh , you're

23:00

going to corral P , are you ? So

23:02

now we have a new race

23:04

term corral p the number

23:06

of people over the weekend were like you need

23:08

to have t-shirts made that say corral

23:11

p .

23:11

I'm like you didn't know what they were talking about . Well , no

23:13

, I I knew what they were talking about , but I was like trying to think

23:15

of the design and like

23:17

how to keep it like classy and professional

23:19

yeah , and I think we should do it in honor

23:21

of lexi . You know , if we just , if we

23:24

just have a tilted over port-a-potty and

23:26

then somehow turn that into a pee , I

23:28

think that would be a brilliant idea . So

23:30

if we have any graphic , designers out there

23:32

, please let us know .

23:35

And also I want to say the most beautiful

23:38

thing I saw out of your guys'

23:40

5K , because I wasn't there . I

23:44

think I was , I think the day of the expo

23:46

. I was flying back from Disneyland Paris so

23:48

I didn't get to do the whole weekend like you

23:50

guys . But your guys' 5K first

23:52

of all looked epic . Second

23:58

of all , the most adorable thing I think I've ever seen was

24:00

the following the leader at the finish line with Kay as

24:02

the lead , and I think she was dressed

24:04

up . Was it John with the umbrella ?

24:06

Yeah , she was John . She was From Peter Pan

24:08

.

24:09

And you guys . I

24:11

got to see the video . Maybe we could

24:13

see if we can get to post it on Instagram so

24:15

everybody could see how beautiful it was . But

24:18

the fact that I think I heard you guys made Carissa

24:20

speechless and made her cry

24:22

a little bit . Those are moments

24:25

that make run Disney so beautiful

24:28

and so magical , you know .

24:29

Yeah , well , the one thing that . I found interesting

24:32

. You know , in terms of like , the ambience of the five

24:34

K was they

24:36

were playing a

24:38

lot of the music from the

24:41

Kathy Rigby version

24:44

, the , the the stage musical of Peter Pan

24:46

which . I know is not

24:48

technically a Disney property , but

24:51

that was just cool to

24:53

hear songs like I Got a Crow

24:56

and I Won't Grow Up and everything like that

24:58

, so that was pretty cool to

25:01

hear throughout the race .

25:02

I heard I Won't Grow Up very clearly when

25:05

I stopped in Corral P in the American area

25:07

and I'm thinking I'm

25:11

a 70-year-old man dressed like

25:13

a fairy and they're playing . I won't grow

25:15

up .

25:16

How appropriate is that I

25:19

will never grow up .

25:22

So 5K was fun . Weather held out for

25:24

us , really . I really thought the weather was fine for . So 5K was fun Weather held out for us . I really thought

25:26

the weather was fine for the 5K . Not

25:30

too much exciting . I

25:32

don't recall doing much during the

25:34

day . I don't know if you guys did anything exciting

25:36

during the day . I did go back to the expo

25:38

, as I like to do . It's

25:41

my best chance to visit with Jeff . I usually

25:43

on the busy day , opening

25:45

day I I wave so

25:47

he knows that I'm there in case I don't

25:49

get back . But when I get

25:51

back the next year I'd get a chance to see him and that's . I

25:54

enjoy that and I always meet up with other

25:56

friends too when we get

25:58

back there .

26:00

I would say my only highlight for the rest of the

26:02

day on Friday was our

26:05

friends . Rachel and Tara

26:07

were so lovely to invite me out

26:10

to spend the day with them in Hollywood

26:12

Studios , and then our buddy Allie without a knee

26:14

tagged along as well too

26:16

, and we were just enjoying that . We

26:18

had lunch at Roundup Rodeo Barbecue , which was

26:20

fantastic , and then slowly becoming

26:23

one of my favorite meals on property

26:25

right now that that mac and cheese I'm still having

26:27

dreams about . Um , but

26:29

you know , we did a couple of rides and everything like that , and

26:31

we were just trying to bounce from air conditioning to

26:33

air conditioning as much as possible yeah

26:35

, it's a good idea but the one thing

26:37

that I kept teasing tara

26:39

and rachel about the entire weekend

26:42

was you . we ended

26:44

up linking up in my Disney experience and

26:46

they had all of these days

26:50

of reservations

26:52

of meals at all . You care to

26:54

enjoy establishments ?

26:56

Yes .

26:57

And so , for example , on Friday

26:59

we had Woody or the roundup rodeo

27:01

barbecue . They had that for lunch , and

27:03

then the girls were going to go to Sebastian's

27:05

Bistro for dinner and I know

27:08

, probably maybe about two hours

27:10

after lunch , everyone

27:12

was like there's no way , I can do this

27:15

again . So we pulled

27:17

an audible and we went for

27:19

apps and milkshakes

27:22

over at 50's Primetime Cafe

27:24

, and

27:26

that was actually the first time I had ever been in there before , so yeah , so all

27:29

I really wanted was the , the

27:31

famous peanut butter and jelly milkshake . But the waitress

27:33

was nice and brought out rounds of water

27:35

for everybody and I

27:38

sucked mine down because I'm like I need to stay

27:40

hydrated because of everything . and

27:42

now I thought this shtick only happened

27:45

over at whispering canyon , at wilderness

27:47

lodge . But all of a sudden our

27:49

waitress brings me what essentially

27:52

is a wine carafe of

27:55

water and she took two

27:57

of the milk um , milkshake

27:59

straws and , like , combined

28:01

them together to make this massive

28:03

straw for me . Because she

28:06

just kept harassing me , because , again , there is

28:08

a shtick there too about don't have your elbows on

28:10

the table , make sure you have a clean plate , all that

28:12

jazz . So

28:14

somebody took a photo of me and I was like this

28:16

just has to go on Facebook . I'm like so here's

28:18

your reminder folks Be sure to stay hydrated

28:20

. And of course , just that big carafe

28:22

of water was a running joke

28:24

for the rest of the weekend , but that was the big highlight

28:26

for me for sure .

28:28

Same two culprits . Greg , After leaving

28:30

breakfast at Crystal

28:32

Palace late breakfast , 10.30 until

28:35

about 11.30 , breakfast slash lunch I

28:38

end up at Roundup Rodeo at 4

28:40

that afternoon . Oh boy , it

28:43

did not go well . But

28:48

I agree that's a great place . I want to go back there where I can actually eat

28:50

something . I I was very pleasantly

28:52

surprised and pleased at

28:54

both places . All right

28:57

, Let us move on

28:59

. Saturday

29:01

morning 10 K Gregreg

29:04

, you already asked me if you

29:06

could kick off the 10k .

29:07

Oh yes , okay , so I feel like I

29:10

know this race had a name , but

29:13

I feel like it needs to be adjusted

29:15

ever so slightly . This should have been

29:17

called the adventure

29:19

is out there 10k . Sponsored

29:23

by kawaiian pizza apparel yeah

29:26

I I have never seen

29:28

so many kpa

29:30

russell

29:32

wilderness explorer shirts in

29:35

my life and it was

29:37

, and the carl shirts and the carl shirts

29:39

, yes , and I even saw a bunch of um

29:41

kevin dresses as

29:43

well too . But I mean , obviously

29:46

I know people you know will buy this stuff and

29:48

you know , like the shirt I wore , you know , my kpa

29:50

shirt . I've had that for years , I've worn it for several

29:52

races . But I'm like boy

29:55

alec must be having a great

29:57

business , you know , especially , you

29:59

know , these last couple of months , because she

30:01

just has all this wonderful material

30:03

, um , you know , that can be used

30:06

for this specific up themed race

30:08

and it was just , it was really cool to see , but I was like

30:10

, yeah , kawaiian piece , apparel should have definitely

30:12

been the sponsor of of this particular race

30:14

we need to talk with alex

30:16

and get her back on the episode again

30:18

here as we get closer to the race season .

30:21

But I need to talk to her about the 101 Dalmatians

30:23

, which I'll mention again in a little

30:25

while . We'll let that go . Yeah , I

30:27

got to do . Every now and then there's

30:29

a theme where there's a character that

30:32

just calls out to me uh

30:35

, during

30:37

the the race

30:40

car . Doc Hudson was

30:42

perfect and Carl was

30:45

just a perfect character for me to do . So

30:47

. I did a Carl . I had to get

30:49

a wig because , even though my hair is the

30:51

right color , I don't have enough of it . So

30:54

I had a Carl wig , I

30:57

got the glasses , I carried my cane

30:59

with me , which at times was

31:01

a little bit of a pain , but I liked it

31:03

. I enjoyed , had fun , had fun Again . We

31:05

were with groups of Rise

31:07

and Run family friends the whole time

31:10

and that was pretty

31:13

awesome .

31:14

Yeah , 10k was a bunch of fun

31:16

because I think a majority

31:18

of our group left

31:21

out of B

31:23

which I

31:25

think we'll have a conversation about corral b especially

31:28

for for the 10 miler in a little bit here but

31:31

, um , I think

31:33

the only two uh was just myself

31:35

and k um

31:37

, we both went out of c and

31:41

we , and even though we thought we got

31:43

in there late , we somehow ended

31:46

up in the first wave of C for

31:49

both the 10K and

31:52

the 10 miler . So , even though there

31:54

was a sizable distance

31:56

between the

32:00

big rise and run group and then Kay and I , we

32:03

were able to catch up with you guys at some point

32:05

I forget at what time it happened

32:07

.

32:07

It was relatively quickly .

32:09

Yeah , so you know , it's

32:12

a situation where , you

32:14

know , I went into this weekend not

32:16

exactly knowing like what

32:18

my race

32:20

plan and my race strategy and race , of course

32:23

, outside of the 5K of course , but so

32:25

the fact that you know , know , k and I got to hang

32:27

out together and , you know , I really got a chance to get

32:30

to know her , um , you know

32:32

, and become even better friends that we already once

32:35

were , what was a really special moment

32:37

and highlight for me for the weekend . And then

32:39

, don't worry , k , we're gonna get back to you a little

32:41

bit later on this recap . Um , but

32:44

course is awesome

32:46

, as always , you know . I , I know the . The

32:48

phrase that I use is this is the perfect 10k

32:50

course . Um , absolutely love

32:52

it . I thought they did a really nice job with the characters

32:55

as well , too . Lines , you

32:57

know , seemed pretty

33:00

manageable , um , but

33:02

yeah , just overall , a ton of fun it

33:04

was . It was great to be able to bump into everybody , um

33:06

, you know , relatively early on in the race .

33:08

Big thanks to Rachel , another

33:11

Rachel who was our scout

33:13

. Rachel was running at about

33:15

an eight minute pace , so she would

33:17

head out , get into character lines , wait

33:21

for the group to catch up . We all do

33:23

one photo . Nobody seems to have any

33:25

. That seems to be run disney protocol

33:27

. We're not the only people who do that , and

33:30

so that's that's .

33:31

Another thing that helped you catch us , greg , is we were able

33:33

to do that and stop for

33:35

photos yeah , that that is

33:37

one thing I did want to bring up just just

33:39

as a general overall comment from the

33:41

weekend . I

33:44

really never was part of

33:46

big group photos

33:48

like that until this

33:51

past marathon weekend during

33:53

the half of the half , and

33:55

for some reason I

33:57

have always been extremely

34:00

hesitant to do that because

34:02

, you know , whenever we're

34:04

waiting for an attraction at Disney World and people

34:06

are like oh I got to meet up with my family or

34:09

whatever you know . Sometimes you know there's thoughts

34:11

of doubt and everything like that . But

34:13

I am very proud

34:16

of the Run Disney community that if

34:18

there are these types of situations

34:20

where you

34:22

know , like Rachel , you know ran ahead and held a spot and

34:24

you know you , just you know , ran ahead and held a spot and you know you just are

34:26

telling the entire line . This

34:29

is just one photo and I promised your

34:31

weight is going to get a heck of a lot shorter in

34:33

just a few minutes . The fact that there's no

34:35

residual anger or

34:38

, you know , sly comments or anything

34:40

like that associated with it is

34:43

slowly helping me mentally

34:45

participate in those a little bit

34:47

more , and

34:50

I'm just glad that there isn't a ton of negative stigma

34:52

around that practice and

34:54

I hope that continues on for race

34:57

weekends to come .

34:58

Yeah , because we were very , very careful to get

35:00

in and out as fast as we possibly could

35:02

and we did not take

35:04

any . Well , we

35:06

did not take much longer than a single person

35:08

and occasionally there'd be small groups with two

35:10

or three who would take longer than us . So I

35:13

didn't feel bad about that at all . But thanks , rachel for

35:15

helping us out with those . We appreciate

35:17

that . Anything

35:20

else on the 10K , I'm trying

35:22

to think Nothing

35:24

too exciting well , I mean the

35:26

other .

35:27

I guess the second exciting thing is now . This

35:29

is day two of

35:31

uh tony forgetting to wear a shirt now

35:35

, folks , let me tell you obviously , you

35:38

know , and , by the way , just

35:40

flashing back to the 5k for a second , um

35:43

, I want to give a big shout out to

35:45

race announcer Tracy . Yeah

35:48

, the way that she set up that

35:50

interview to interview Tony on the big

35:52

screen , about really that you know we have

35:54

the stars of run Disney because you know he had

35:56

the starfish brawl on and everything

35:58

like that . I just thought that was

36:00

absolutely brilliant . And of

36:02

course , lots of videos and photos

36:05

were getting shared of Tony across

36:07

the entire rest of the day . We

36:10

wake up Saturday morning and

36:12

he is jubilated beyond

36:16

a shadow of a doubt because

36:18

he woke up to a notification

36:21

on his phone that Carissa Galloway

36:23

was now following him on Instagram and

36:31

that was really cute to see . But I remember he was a little nervous getting dressed for the 10k because

36:34

he was dressing up as one of the squirrels you

36:36

know because you know we dug gets distracted by

36:38

them so easily that's funny

36:41

. You know he had this like furry vest

36:43

or whatever , but he couldn't find

36:45

a brown running

36:48

shirt to go with the costume .

36:50

I bet he didn't look very hard , yeah

36:52

.

36:53

And then I think he put like a die cast

36:55

, like belly circle on there and

36:58

he was , like you know , looking at the

37:00

forecast like there's just no way

37:02

I can wear this . So this is why he went

37:04

day two shirtless

37:06

. And then he decided

37:08

, you know , by the end of saturday , that , um

37:10

, yeah , might as well go three

37:13

for three on this one all right , I'm

37:15

with you , bro , tony .

37:16

That's your story and you're sticking to it . All

37:18

right , we're good , okay . All

37:21

right , let us move

37:23

forward . Let's get to sunday , the last

37:25

race wait , wait , wait oh

37:28

golly did you guys meet up ? I thought I

37:30

saw some golly , golly . How

37:32

was I gonna ? I'm

37:35

embarrassed , thank you , because

37:37

how in the world could I miss that ? That

37:41

was , and I I teased

37:43

it in the beginning . That

37:46

was just amazing

37:49

, just amazing . This

37:51

family never . Becky

37:55

was last week . I

37:57

was sitting out here where I am now . Crickets

38:01

were where they usually are and

38:03

, uh , I could see in the

38:05

kitchen window and Becky's in there baking

38:07

cookies , which he had been doing most

38:10

of the day . I

38:12

believe , all told , she

38:14

makes about 20 dozen

38:16

and I'm

38:18

thinking , becky , we're not going

38:21

to have that many people . This race is not

38:23

as big as Marathon Weekend

38:25

. It's probably the size

38:27

of Princess , maybe possibly even

38:29

a little smaller , and it's going to be really

38:31

hot . People are not going to

38:34

want to come and sit out there over in

38:36

the food truck area

38:38

.

38:38

Well , think about it Last year at this

38:40

meetup , we maybe only had 20

38:44

to 25 people .

38:45

Really , yeah , it wasn't that many

38:48

.

38:49

Oh .

38:51

It's just emblematic of what

38:53

has happened within

38:55

the community , within the family , as I love

38:57

to call it , is that people

39:00

look forward to it because they look forward

39:02

to seeing one another look

39:07

forward to it because they look forward to seeing one

39:09

another . And whether you've been with us since October of 2021

39:12

, or whether you joined us three weeks ago , you , I hope

39:14

, you have learned how

39:17

welcome you are and how not only how

39:19

much we want you we , those of

39:21

us who are sitting here behind microphones this evening

39:23

, but the rest of the family wants

39:25

to see you and know you too . Anyway

39:30

, the meetup the meetup

39:32

was scheduled to start at three

39:34

. My sweet wife , I

39:37

call it . She gets there early and establishes

39:40

a beachhead , meaning

39:42

she grabs a table and as many chairs

39:44

as she can . She did that at 1.30

39:46

. Oh geez , it's

39:49

hot . I'm thinking

39:51

I won't do this

39:53

. This is too early . Becky , let's go over to the

39:56

Splitsville and we'll sit at the bar and have a drink

39:58

and come back in about 45 minutes . Nope

40:00

, she insists , we need

40:02

to do this . Go get the cookies

40:04

. She says . I have to go back up

40:06

to the car in orange garage , pick

40:09

up the cookies and and the recording equipment

40:11

, which , which isn't that much . It

40:14

gets a little heavy after you're carrying it for a while , but it's

40:16

not too bad . Uh , that's

40:18

fun . Getting by security with

40:20

the recording equipment . They , they're actually really

40:22

decent . They treat it

40:24

like oh yeah , this happens every day . Do you

40:27

offer them cookies , bob ? I do Every time

40:29

. I have Every time , and they always chuckle

40:31

. I guess they have a rule that they can't have

40:33

them . I'm sincere . If they want one or

40:35

two , of course they could have them .

40:37

I know I gave them to one of our waitresses after

40:40

and

40:47

he goes oh , these are great .

40:48

I go , yeah , yeah , yeah , I would definitely do

40:50

it , no doubt about it . Uh , so 1 30 . So I've got the cookies

40:52

there at about two o'clock . It's

40:55

still at that point . It's just becky

40:58

. That didn't

41:00

last long , about

41:03

quarter after

41:05

after . I forget who got there and

41:07

I'm sorry because we were talking

41:09

and I know who you are and I just kind of forgot

41:11

who it was . But

41:13

we were chatting a little bit and I mentioned

41:16

something about Alan Young and

41:19

then , over my shoulder , here comes

41:21

Alan Young and Grace at

41:23

about 2.15 , 2.20 . There

41:27

were probably 50

41:29

people there by 3 o'clock and

41:32

it grew . We

41:35

took a photo about 3.30 . Some

41:37

folks had already left . I

41:41

think I haven't tried to count them . Greg

41:43

, have you tried to count the people in the photo ?

41:46

I started to it gets

41:48

hard . Yeah , and then I I

41:50

couldn't enlarge it enough on my phone to

41:52

get an accurate count , so I'll need to like take

41:55

it in the Photoshop or something like that and blow it

41:57

up to , but no , it was guys

42:00

we had over a hundred people there , yeah no , it

42:02

was . I would put it on par

42:05

with the same

42:07

amount of people , if

42:09

not more than , what

42:11

we had at Marathon Weekend

42:14

this past year .

42:15

Crazy Wow .

42:18

Yeah it left me speechless .

42:20

And I just want to slightly apologize so

42:23

I was a little late to the event . I got

42:25

there about 3.20 . Because

42:27

if you are invited to

42:29

pace the event , you actually do have

42:31

to work the booth over

42:33

at the expo . And because I flew

42:35

in Saturday morning , the

42:38

expo is only open for so long .

42:41

Right , right , I understood that , yeah , yeah

42:43

.

42:43

I was very happy to make it . I I

42:45

still I know everybody says

42:48

this with us and everything and just

42:50

want to say thank you so much for everybody

42:52

coming and chatting with all of us . I

42:54

hope you , I hope you , truly

42:56

understand how amazing and

42:59

wonderful it feels to meet your

43:01

, you know , meet your people in terms

43:04

of like your community and

43:06

your friends , and you're just like I am so

43:08

thankful every single day for

43:11

the , for this community . Um

43:13

, you guys are absolutely lovely , so wonderful

43:15

to meet you guys . I wish we had more time

43:17

to chat .

43:18

I feel like the meetups aren't long enough now well

43:21

, we'll have to see and we we

43:23

may have to find a bigger area no , that , no

43:25

, that that was something I was going to bring up because

43:28

, uh , we

43:30

got .

43:31

I was again still hanging out with rachel

43:33

and tara because we had attempted

43:36

to try dapper day over at

43:38

epcot before coming down to the meetup

43:40

and that was just torturous

43:44

to a certain extent because , you know , wearing

43:46

nice clothes and that heat and

43:48

where there's not a lot

43:50

of shade in world showcase was an adventure and

43:52

a half for sure . Um , but

43:55

I know that the girls were looking for

43:58

, I think , like a

44:00

small world dress . So we went . So we went

44:02

over to like the the world of

44:04

disney side , um , because I thought

44:06

maybe would be in there , and

44:08

they're like , oh no , go go look in this shop

44:11

or whatever . And we had to pass

44:13

by um

44:15

, dockside margaritas in order to get

44:17

right and I and I

44:19

made the joke that I was gonna post

44:21

something in the springtime surprise chat . That'd

44:24

be like change of plans

44:26

. We're moving the meetup back to the original

44:28

location because

44:30

there is a lot more shade over there

44:32

than there usually is by the food truck

44:34

area . But and but

44:36

then once seeing the sheer number

44:39

of people , I'm like , okay , it took

44:41

us a year and a half to outgrow

44:44

dockside margaritas and

44:46

we're starting to get pretty close that we

44:48

could be outgrowing um

44:51

, you know the food truck area , so

44:53

we definitely should put our thinking

44:55

caps on , for you know other places and folks

44:57

. If you have ideas as well , do please send them

45:00

our way . We'd be really interested to hear

45:02

some ideas . But yeah , again that

45:04

just the sheer number of people and and

45:07

so much love that was

45:09

that was at that meetup . What was incredible

45:11

and the one profound

45:14

thing that that really really washed over

45:16

me , um , um

45:19

, during , you know , that span of two hours , was

45:21

something you said , bob , and

45:24

, and I think you might have said I can't

45:26

remember if you said to me in private or to a very

45:28

small group of us . You

45:32

know , you have a strong , positive

45:35

, motivating family based

45:39

on the fact that you , me

45:42

and Jack and

45:44

Alicia Alicia was there and she's on

45:46

a vacation right now and we'll get her thoughts

45:48

on everything next week the

45:51

four of us could have left that thing

45:53

, yeah yeah and

45:55

there would have still been dozens

45:57

of people there chatting with one another

46:00

and and that , and that's incredible

46:02

, and that's a and folks , that is a testament

46:04

to you of , oh yeah

46:06

, helping build this

46:09

amazing community that supports one another

46:11

in their running journey , and

46:13

I just I love where it's grown

46:15

to and I can't wait to keep growing

46:18

it . It's , it's absolutely awesome .

46:19

I love that you speak so eloquently

46:22

and so perfectly about , like , the community

46:25

in general and I'm just like , oh , I agree with

46:27

everything you say . You

46:29

guys are our whole art . I

46:31

can't word , this is so hard . You

46:34

guys are our ohana

46:37

. Yeah , ohana means family

46:39

, and families stick together , and I just want to say

46:41

thank you so much for being

46:43

in this wonderful , beautiful family that

46:45

I completely am thankful for every

46:47

single day .

46:48

I was chatting on the same subject

46:51

with one of our friends Again

46:53

, I don't remember who , and a

46:56

brief aside , friends , thank you for

46:59

being patient with me when I say I

47:01

can't remember your name or I can't remember who I was

47:03

talking to , because it is literally hundreds

47:05

every weekend . But I mentioned

47:07

that same thing , that I

47:10

loved looking

47:12

around and going . Those

47:15

people over there who are together having

47:18

a wonderful time would

47:20

not have known each other absent

47:23

the Rise and Run podcast . They

47:25

probably wouldn't have . It could have happened

47:28

, but the Rise and Run podcast

47:30

was the catalyst . And whoever

47:32

I was talking to said to me

47:34

yeah , it won't be long

47:36

before somebody

47:38

gets married in this group , oh

47:41

my gosh , the first Rise and Run baby

47:43

, stop it .

47:43

You're going to get a onesie . They didn't have , you know , in this group because they met . Oh my gosh , the first rise and run baby , stop it they

47:47

didn't .

47:48

They didn't have . You know , we didn't have

47:50

anybody in mind . If

47:52

you're out there , don't get . No

47:54

, we didn't have anyone in mind , we did . It was

47:56

just a thought that someone had thrown out . I

47:58

said do you really think so ? I said , oh yeah , I

48:01

really think that will happen you know , jack

48:03

.

48:03

I want to go back to something you just said before about

48:05

you know onesies and babies and everything like that

48:07

. We do need to give a shout out to somebody

48:10

who , who was at the meetup

48:12

, but not physically at the meetup , and

48:14

that is baby George . All

48:18

of a sudden , I was using the recording

48:20

equipment I think I was , I think I was recording

48:22

it was

48:24

k or or somebody else and my phone

48:27

is buzzing and it's a video

48:29

call from david and he and

48:31

he sends me a message and he's like are you guys

48:33

at the meetup ? And so I video

48:35

chat him back and

48:38

, as a as a congratulations to them , we

48:40

had , uh , here at the podcast

48:42

, we had sent them a rise

48:44

and run um logo

48:47

onesie . And all

48:49

of a sudden , so I'm chatting with

48:51

david and he goes , oh , somebody wants to say hi

48:53

. And he turns the camera and

48:55

there's baby george wearing

48:58

his rise from one onesie . So

49:00

he . So , jack , I

49:02

brought the phone over to you at one point .

49:04

You , you don't remember this . No

49:06

, you know what ? It was a very long day and I

49:08

had no sleep , so I apologize . So

49:10

I'm reliving the beautiful moment again

49:12

.

49:13

Okay , All right , but , yeah so , but

49:16

it's so cool that that you know , the meetup can

49:18

even extend outside of the physical meetup

49:20

itself , which is great .

49:22

David , you know that's a collector's item . That

49:24

is a unique John DeMarco

49:26

designed , one-of-a-kind

49:29

baby onesie .

49:31

I do remember that picture

49:33

.

49:34

Yeah .

49:34

Hold on Sorry

49:36

.

49:38

It just got brighter in there , the light just went on . It

49:41

was amazing . Light just

49:44

went on it was .

49:44

But you know , you know , speaking of other gifts too , I , I

49:47

know we we tried to to limit the

49:49

, the number of shout outs and everything like that . Um

49:51

, I just want to give um two massive

49:53

thank yous real fast , uh . First to the

49:56

leader of the chaos crew , monica . Um

49:59

, I don't know where she found them , um

50:01

, but she had gotten me

50:03

some of the ? um power

50:06

limes or um the

50:08

power line candy , laffy taffies for

50:11

me and I actually ended up finding them a little

50:13

bit later on the trip . Uh , so

50:15

I bought a bunch um , but that was

50:17

really , really sweet . And then the other one too is

50:20

um to our friend stephanie , who

50:23

is just a

50:25

tremendous beacon of light in our community

50:27

with her story . Right now she

50:31

had made us these wonderful

50:34

Bob is

50:36

reusable bag , the correct

50:38

phrase here .

50:39

Reusable vinyl bag that folds

50:41

into itself basically and

50:44

easily fits into your pocket of your running

50:46

shorts .

50:47

And then that's great . So as you're going through the finisher

50:49

shoot , you can throw the Gatorade

50:52

and or the or sorry , powerade Coke

50:54

products you know , the Powerade and

50:56

the banana and the bottles of water

50:58

and the snack box . So that way you're not , you

51:01

know , fumbling with it at , you know , as you go through the shoot

51:04

. That was just such a precious gift and I ended

51:06

up using it throughout

51:08

the rest of the weekend . So that so , stephanie

51:11

, thank you so much for making that . That

51:13

meant a lot , and what I really appreciate is that she

51:15

put catchphrases on them for us . You know

51:17

. Mine said hey , hey , hey , Bob , I can't

51:19

remember what yours said , the tall

51:21

old guy remember

51:28

what yours said the tall old guy , tall guy , yeah .

51:29

And then , uh , alicia says I love that and I know stephanie's got more of those

51:31

. Uh , jack , what did you see ? You got one , I forget I

51:34

forgot , oh for crying

51:38

it's been a very long week . I'm sorry

51:40

but yeah , it was beautiful . And

51:43

Greg . I kind of . That's

51:45

something I need to catch up on and

51:48

I'm going to stop again . I

51:50

would say thank you to Stephanie also

51:52

, but I'm going to stop there because I got other people

51:54

to thank and I'm not prepared

51:56

, so I'll have

51:58

to do that later .

52:00

Now , one thing that I just realized . Um

52:02

, I would like to before we get

52:04

into Sunday . There

52:06

is a glaring thing that

52:08

we just skipped over in

52:10

terms of a massive event that happened

52:12

on Saturday and that is . On

52:14

behalf of everyone here at the Rise and

52:17

Run podcast , we would like to congratulate

52:19

John Pelkey on running

52:21

his first ever 10K

52:23

.

52:24

Pelkey congratulations first ever 10K Pelkey , congratulations . Insert

52:27

PR bell here .

52:30

I love it .

52:31

Yeah , it was fun , and Stephanie

52:33

helped him on that . Stephanie stayed with

52:35

him through the whole thing . Yeah , it's been

52:37

fun . That's another thing that's been fun is getting

52:39

to know the announcing crew . It's been

52:41

wonderful , the

52:48

announcing crew , it's been wonderful . I'm just going to conclude Saturday by saying that we got there

52:50

at 1.30 . We had dinner reservations

52:52

at 5 , and when I

52:54

left there were still

52:56

folks there . Now , there weren't a lot , but

52:59

there were still folks there , as

53:01

we described earlier . Still

53:06

folks there , as we described earlier , talking amongst themselves new friends . So a message

53:08

to those of you who maybe are

53:10

new to this maybe you've picked us up

53:13

a week or two ago . Maybe

53:15

you couldn't make it to the meetup . This is what it's

53:17

all about is this family that grows

53:19

, that gets to know one another not just us

53:21

gets to know one another , and

53:24

we hope you will become part of that

53:26

. All right , now I

53:28

think I'm safe to move on to Sunday

53:30

. I jumped the gun a little bit there . I'm

53:33

safe to move on to Sunday and

53:35

the final

53:37

race of the 2023-24

53:42

season . Yeah , I

53:44

know . Yeah , oh well

53:46

, ten Miler . How'd

53:49

it go , jack ? How'd it go

53:51

Well , bob .

53:55

It was an experience I think

53:57

I'm so used to

54:00

kind of . I usually just kind of run

54:02

on my own and

54:04

I literally will sprint to

54:06

characters , um , so it

54:08

was really different this time around

54:10

to not be able to

54:12

see the characters yeah , yeah , right

54:14

right , um , and I will

54:17

say I was kind

54:19

of slightly devastated because my

54:21

um favorite movie is

54:23

rescuers down under and

54:26

uh , bianca and

54:28

bernard were out and I've never seen

54:30

them out before and I couldn't stop for

54:32

them and I wanted to cry internally

54:35

, but on the plus side , you guys

54:37

, besides that , um , I

54:39

think overall the race was

54:41

good . Um , I

54:44

think I sometimes get

54:46

anxiety in crowds , um

54:49

, so the first few miles were

54:51

a bit rough for me and I , I

54:54

my my biggest fear was losing hamish

54:56

um in the midst of the crowd

54:58

, um , because it

55:01

was just jam-packed entire

55:03

time , shoulder to shoulder . So much so that

55:05

when I was in our walking

55:07

section and we were off to the right , um

55:09

, I accidentally um stepped

55:11

on someone's um , uh

55:14

, shoe like the back of their heel , and I

55:16

felt so bad and I looked at her . I'm like I

55:18

am so sorry , oh

55:21

, my God , are you okay ? And , um

55:23

, she , she , she

55:25

looked at me and just kind of looked at me

55:27

and I was like , okay , I'm so sorry and

55:29

it was purely accident , but it was like

55:31

in one of those areas where it's like we were packed

55:33

like sardines and I hate using that

55:36

as like a metaphor of any kind

55:38

, but yeah , it

55:40

was really extremely crowded and

55:42

I just I

55:44

just had a fear of losing my , my

55:46

partner , because I was like , if , if

55:49

, if I lose him , how am I going to find him ?

55:52

He had a big stick with a flag on it , Jack

55:54

.

55:55

Yes , makes it a little easier . Yeah

55:58

, so actually let me go back a little bit . In the beginning

56:00

of the corrals , I was really excited because we started

56:02

meeting people that we're going to attempt

56:04

to . We started meeting

56:06

people that we were going to potentially pace

56:08

with , which was really cool , and we had great conversations

56:11

and you guys guess what ?

56:13

I have no idea .

56:15

I think you do , because I kind of told you beforehand

56:17

. But it's okay . I

56:21

was really excited because I had

56:23

found during the corral time , since

56:25

we had an hour to wait I found

56:27

43 running jokes and

56:29

I've never felt so proud of myself

56:31

for finding them and

56:34

I told Hamish and I . I got him

56:36

laughing and I turned

56:38

to the people who are going to be in our pacing group

56:40

. I was like you guys , you guys are going

56:42

gonna get some running jokes , probably around

56:44

mile five , but I

56:46

was very proud of it because I was practicing

56:48

my timing , because timing is everything

56:50

when the jokes are like you know

56:52

, but um , do you

56:55

remember any of them jack , um actually

56:57

I I screenshot them all so

56:59

give us one or two all right , it may

57:01

not not be one that I said

57:04

during the race . Okay

57:06

, so I didn't say this joke , but

57:08

it's kind of stuff like this why

57:11

did the snowman get a cramp

57:13

?

57:14

Jack , I don't know why did the snowman get a cramp

57:16

?

57:16

I'm so excited . No , no

57:18

, no , that wasn't it Sorry . Because

57:21

he did not warm up . I

57:24

thought it

57:27

was funny , okay

57:29

.

57:30

Oh golly .

57:32

Why don't sprinters have long

57:34

careers ? Because

57:36

they're only good in the short run .

57:39

Oh , yeah , yeah

57:41

.

57:42

But anyways , yeah , I was so

57:45

excited there was like 43 of these jokes

57:47

.

57:47

that's enough we've heard enough .

57:49

No , I wasn't gonna tell him it was enough no

57:52

, no , but I'm just saying like , I

57:54

just felt bad that by the time

57:56

I got to tell the jokes it was around mile seven

57:59

and I only got to tell five of them

58:01

and , um , I think

58:03

, because of the way when you pace , if

58:05

you fall behind , we were off by 40

58:08

seconds in the first mile and

58:10

we weren't able to catch any other

58:12

miles in the first three miles . So we had

58:14

to gain everything within between miles

58:16

three and six and we were finally

58:18

at our average mile around mile six

58:20

. It's just , at some

58:22

points you have to , unfortunately , do a lot

58:24

faster pace and I felt so bad , um

58:27

, because the people pacing with us , we weren't really

58:29

doing at that point a 10 minute mile

58:31

because we were catching up . We were doing I think our

58:33

fastest was a nine minute and 22nd

58:35

mile for a 90 30 . But

58:37

, um , I don't know about you guys , but

58:39

I had a problem with the heat . I was

58:41

so heat

58:44

exhausted um mile seven

58:46

and I got really quiet .

58:47

Well , jack , as long as we're talking about pacing

58:49

, we've got a guest with us tonight , so

58:51

let's bring him on and we'll talk about

58:53

it a little more . Well

58:56

, while we're on the 10-miler the 10-miler

58:58

being the long

59:00

race this weekend was the only one that had pacers

59:03

, so let's talk pacers a

59:05

little bit , particularly as they apply

59:07

to the springtime . Surprise , we've got

59:09

a guest with us this week . He's

59:12

been here before . A lot of our friends

59:14

know Adam . Adam's been a Galloway pacer

59:16

for a while . Adam , it's

59:18

good to see you . Buddy , how you doing ?

59:20

I'm doing wonderful , happy to be here

59:23

.

59:23

We're glad you're here Now I'm going to talk

59:26

with you . We're going to talk with you about

59:28

this next thing I'm going

59:30

to say later , but Adam

59:33

just got back from Boston in time

59:35

to do the pacing here at Springtime Surprise . Ah

59:39

, pretty cool . Pretty cool , buddy .

59:41

And nice and barely recovered , I

59:43

imagine . I imagine .

59:44

I imagine that's pretty cool but , like I said

59:47

, we're going to talk more about that on a

59:49

different episode . That'll be fun . Jack

59:52

, you were

59:54

pacing and this was your first time

59:57

to pace , right ?

59:59

Yeah , it was an experience .

1:00:01

But you were not with Adam , you were

1:00:04

with no , I was with Hamish

1:00:06

.

1:00:06

So originally I was scheduled to run

1:00:09

the 130 group , which

1:00:11

was an average of nine minute mile . Due

1:00:14

to the heat index and as a reference

1:00:16

in general , if it is like

1:00:18

around 70 degrees , I believe Adam can correct

1:00:20

me , but if it's about 70 degrees , including

1:00:23

with the inclusion of dew point , I know you'd

1:00:25

be like that , bob , we

1:00:28

will get pushed back a group . So I was with the

1:00:31

140 time in

1:00:33

Corral B .

1:00:35

There's a term for that , jack , and I don't know

1:00:37

if it's strictly a military term or not . It's called a wet

1:00:39

bulb index , where you combine

1:00:41

the heat and the humidity . The

1:00:44

dew point was in the high 60s , which I

1:00:46

was surprised . I didn't think it was that high , but it was

1:00:48

. It was 68 . It was 68 when

1:00:50

we finished , and dew points do not vary

1:00:52

that much during a day unless there's a front or

1:00:54

something , and once again I'm getting way too

1:00:56

bogged down . So see

1:00:59

what happens . You , um

1:01:03

, what tell us about your experience

1:01:05

pacing this one ? Uh , adam , why don't

1:01:08

you kick it off for us ?

1:01:09

yeah . So I mean it's always a pleasure

1:01:11

and honor to come and pace , right ? So

1:01:13

, um man , that's

1:01:16

funny . This is my first perfect

1:01:18

season completion of pacing , so that was really

1:01:20

cool . And this

1:01:24

race you said it was hot , it definitely

1:01:26

was . And

1:01:29

this pacing to

1:01:31

me was , I mean , all

1:01:33

of our pacing has challenges

1:01:35

, right ? Because in

1:01:37

Disney races you're always going to run into

1:01:39

congestion at some point some point of the course . Congestion at some

1:01:41

point of the course it's

1:01:43

going to happen . So our

1:01:46

goal , job , I

1:01:48

should say , as

1:01:53

a pacer , is to guide not only our group but anybody else

1:01:55

around us safely through any of the pinch points as well . As

1:01:58

you know , carrying the flag at a consistent

1:02:00

pace , right ? So our number one priority

1:02:03

is safety , followed by you will

1:02:05

know where you are on the course by looking at the flag

1:02:07

. We're supposed to be as consistent as possible

1:02:09

. We play a fun game

1:02:12

just to be able to do that . We play closest

1:02:14

to the pin . But that comes second

1:02:16

to safety , of course . And

1:02:18

this race , the

1:02:20

10 milers , are more challenging to

1:02:23

pace because of the shorter distance

1:02:25

, so there's less , there's less room for error

1:02:27

. So if we get behind

1:02:30

, it's a lot harder to make it up where

1:02:32

you get to a half marathon or a marathon . We can

1:02:34

spread that out and not worry

1:02:37

as much in the beginning . As

1:02:40

we go on , we can slowly chip away at

1:02:42

that time . And for this one , we , you know they start

1:02:44

slowly chip away at that time . And for this one , we , you know , they start you off right

1:02:46

in the parks . And

1:02:48

you know , I've I felt from

1:02:50

my pacing time that

1:02:53

I didn't really

1:02:55

get any major congestion until

1:02:57

maybe mile two . We were , we were

1:02:59

in , we were in

1:03:01

Epcot , I think it was , we were in Epcot

1:03:03

, I think it was . And then when the biggest

1:03:05

point that we had and it's a consistent

1:03:08

problem I've seen between last

1:03:10

last 10 miler

1:03:12

and this one was between the parks

1:03:14

, because as you go around along

1:03:16

the canal , not only does it get narrow

1:03:19

but they put a water stop there , and

1:03:21

last time that was really difficult and last time that

1:03:23

was really difficult and I was

1:03:25

really hoping they wouldn't do that this time but they

1:03:27

did and you've got maybe

1:03:29

five , six feet . It's

1:03:32

not a big sidewalk . And then the

1:03:35

other thing about it is they put it on the left

1:03:37

side and

1:03:43

the normal race etiquette is you want to walk on the right and run

1:03:45

on the left , and that's what we always guide our groups to do , because

1:03:47

we want to do that for safety , so

1:03:49

that runners can keep going around us if they want

1:03:52

to , and we're not going to swarm

1:03:54

or cut anybody off . So

1:03:56

, for that water , stop . When

1:03:58

the water stops on the left , most

1:04:01

individuals are going to go and grab

1:04:03

water , slow down a little bit , walk a little bit , drink

1:04:06

the water which is the right thing to do and

1:04:08

then get going again . Well , that reverses

1:04:10

the etiquette on the course . So

1:04:12

I kind of thought that maybe if they moved it

1:04:14

even a little bit further , you've got a big parking lot coming

1:04:16

up , you've got a ton of space going into Hollywood

1:04:19

Studios , that you could spread that out

1:04:22

a little bit it definitely opens

1:04:24

there , you're right or just reverse the course

1:04:26

.

1:04:26

So you start on the highway , you give people

1:04:28

the space which I know we're going to

1:04:31

get to in a second on a different topic . But

1:04:33

that way you increase the space for which

1:04:35

people can run . So it's not so congested

1:04:38

in the beginning and people can spread

1:04:40

out in that aspect . So when they do get to

1:04:42

the parks and there are um , quote-unquote

1:04:44

pinch points or just smaller lanes

1:04:47

of which we're running on , then

1:04:49

it's a little bit more spread out by the time they

1:04:51

get there .

1:04:52

That's just yeah the one thing that

1:04:54

I'm intrigued by . I think the first half

1:04:56

of this course is absolutely wonderful

1:04:58

. Right , it is . The second

1:05:00

half of that course is a drag , a stall , yeah

1:05:02

, and I wonder if

1:05:05

, but . But I can see why

1:05:07

you can't do it . I wonder if you

1:05:09

ran it in reverse . But

1:05:11

I understand , though , why we do it that way , because

1:05:13

, as you're coming

1:05:15

along that

1:05:18

pathway by the boardwalk , heading

1:05:20

towards studios , then , yes , you

1:05:22

get this straight shot down hollywood boulevard

1:05:25

to see the chinese theater , and

1:05:27

then , after you loop through galaxy's edge and toy

1:05:29

storyland , then you're getting the straight shot

1:05:31

onto tower of terror so again

1:05:34

I . I understand that but , like I again , I wonder

1:05:36

if my enjoyment of the course would

1:05:38

be any different if it you know

1:05:40

it could be tweaked in that way I

1:05:43

know this race was a very hot weekend and

1:05:45

I know what you

1:05:47

guys were training to pace .

1:05:49

I would assume , at a certain pace

1:05:51

, that all of a sudden day before the race

1:05:53

, they say guys and

1:05:56

girls you

1:05:59

have to cut back a minute a mile on your pace

1:06:01

. So how does that affect you guys as pacers

1:06:03

?

1:06:04

A lot , to be honest

1:06:06

, if I mean , I don't know

1:06:08

about you , but like for my pacing

1:06:10

. So I was scheduled to run a two minute run

1:06:13

, 30 second walk , and that's

1:06:15

what I was practicing . And , um

1:06:17

, they did say , you know , just in case , try and do

1:06:19

90 , 30 , like you know , try and do

1:06:21

the other ratios which

1:06:25

you could be . And so when , before I found out what my time

1:06:27

was , I was practicing um 90 seconds run , 30

1:06:29

seconds walk in an as an 11 minute

1:06:31

average pace . The one pace

1:06:33

I didn't practice was a 90 , 30 at 10

1:06:35

minutes . Um , so I

1:06:37

, to be honest , I was

1:06:39

kind of like trying to be a sponge

1:06:42

. I was following my um pacer

1:06:44

, my partner Hamish , the

1:06:46

entire time , cause I wanted to learn as much

1:06:48

as I could . So I was kind of more quiet during

1:06:51

the race than I would have normally been

1:06:53

, um , and I was just kind of like a sponge , but

1:06:55

getting trying to figure out how

1:06:57

to do the 10 minute mile as we're trying to

1:06:59

pace . I mean the time I guess

1:07:02

didn't matter as much in the beginning because we were

1:07:04

so congested and I'm

1:07:06

sure I'll talk about my experience later , so I won't

1:07:08

get too far into the details about my

1:07:11

overall experience but trying to get used

1:07:13

to a different time . I'm glad that they shifted

1:07:15

it back , because if I

1:07:17

had to run a nine-minute mile , not

1:07:19

only with the heat but the huge congestion

1:07:22

that was the beginning it would have

1:07:24

not ended well , because

1:07:26

there's not as much time to make up for

1:07:28

what was basically

1:07:30

dealt , but yeah .

1:07:32

Lexi , are you proud of your friend Jack ? She

1:07:34

used to be . She used to be just a goldfish

1:07:36

, now she's a sponge .

1:07:38

Yeah , yeah , I mean you know , it's an

1:07:40

. It's an evolution .

1:07:43

I don't know if you picked up on that or not

1:07:45

, but you used to be a goldfish

1:07:48

, not anymore .

1:07:48

I'll take it , Bob Not anymore .

1:07:50

It's a step up . I need to make you a new

1:07:52

bracelet . I'm a sponge , so

1:07:55

were there any other issues , any other things

1:07:57

you wanted to talk about about pacing this one

1:07:59

? There were things

1:08:01

that made it I don't want to say unique , that's the wrong

1:08:03

word , but made it different or more challenging

1:08:06

. Obviously , anything else you wanted

1:08:08

to talk about here ?

1:08:09

So I'm happy that we got

1:08:11

pushed back again with times , for again

1:08:14

for a 10-minute pace , because if we were to

1:08:16

have paced a nine-minute with where

1:08:18

we were situated in Corral B , we

1:08:21

wouldn't have been able to catch up to that last mile

1:08:24

Corral B , we wouldn't have been able to

1:08:26

catch up to that last mile . The thing that I really wanted

1:08:28

, first of all

1:08:30

, the most important thing that

1:08:32

I really wanted to mention that I hope Disney listens

1:08:35

to , is the safety situations that I

1:08:37

saw within the first three miles

1:08:40

, especially for awd , was

1:08:42

astounding . Corral

1:08:45

b was so congested and

1:08:47

normally awd and adam

1:08:49

can vouch for this because he has friends

1:08:51

that have confirmed it they usually go in between

1:08:54

corral a and corral b , but

1:08:56

instead this time around they were put into

1:08:58

the large corral which

1:09:01

, by the way , had 13 waves , which

1:09:03

is unheard of in the first place

1:09:05

. But for Corral

1:09:08

that is normally situated

1:09:10

for proof of time in AWD

1:09:12

, they

1:09:15

weren't given the space that

1:09:17

they need to have starting

1:09:20

out , especially in the beginning of the race , so

1:09:22

that way they can have the most successful race

1:09:24

possible . But instead they put him in

1:09:26

a massive corral where it was

1:09:28

shoulder to shoulder for

1:09:30

almost the first two and a half miles

1:09:33

, from what I saw , and

1:09:35

it was not safe . You had people

1:09:38

that were stopping in the middle of

1:09:40

water , stops taking

1:09:43

pictures , and

1:09:45

then you had people linking arms . There was

1:09:47

one person in our pacing group at the very

1:09:49

beginning . I felt so bad . It was so congested

1:09:51

, I know I think he decided to

1:09:54

fall off a little bit , so I didn't

1:09:56

see him from then and I know he finished

1:09:58

, so congrats to him . But he had a GoPro

1:10:01

and he literally caught footage of

1:10:03

people linking arms and whatnot

1:10:05

across the entire walkway

1:10:08

and they're walking when normally

1:10:10

running's on the left if you're going to walk

1:10:12

on the right . And I understand I'm still

1:10:14

learning as a pacer as well , so

1:10:16

I mean I have a lot to learn and

1:10:18

I will continue to be that sponge so that

1:10:20

I can do it in the most safe way possible

1:10:23

. This was a new experience for me , and so I was

1:10:25

following what my my pacer

1:10:27

was , because he was teaching me along the way , but

1:10:35

there were so many safety situations that I saw like somebody jumping over a wheelchair . In no

1:10:37

way I didn't see this happen , but in no way that

1:10:40

should have been done . You

1:10:42

give them that space and you

1:10:44

know it , know it's out of respect and you

1:10:46

know . I mean I know Adam had

1:10:48

a few thoughts about it too .

1:10:50

Yeah , it was . There was a lot of congestion

1:10:53

. I know the linking of arms issue

1:10:56

was big this weekend

1:10:58

. I

1:11:01

think as pacers we had to work significantly

1:11:04

harder than we have in the

1:11:06

past . I know this is

1:11:08

five or six consecutive

1:11:12

Disney races I've done and

1:11:14

there's always tough spots . But

1:11:17

this was a more difficult one and

1:11:21

we always guide our runners and it's

1:11:23

hard . It's hard to stay

1:11:25

in a group and stay what we call skinny

1:11:27

group . We say okay

1:11:29

, come on , group , stay skinny , stay , you know , to a breast

1:11:31

, please , if at all possible , run

1:11:34

to the left . And we call it when we , when we call

1:11:36

it out , we , we do the three , two , one running

1:11:38

running to the left , and we we call out okay

1:11:41

, walk , break in three , two , one walking to the right

1:11:43

, please , Everybody over . And I'm doing hand signals

1:11:45

left and right and constantly

1:11:47

turning around to make sure everybody's listening . Right , Because

1:11:49

it's about safety

1:11:51

. I have seen runners go down hard

1:11:53

in Disney races

1:11:56

and we don't want that for anybody , Nor

1:12:01

do we want to accidentally cut anybody off . I've been in a pacing situation

1:12:03

where we got stuck and I had to go around to the right

1:12:05

and the second you get put into that position

1:12:08

as a pacer , you want out

1:12:10

of it immediately because you feel uncomfortable

1:12:12

, you feel dangerous . So

1:12:14

whenever I get into that position

1:12:16

, we purposely slow down , I

1:12:19

stop caring about time and

1:12:21

I care about getting in the right position

1:12:24

and then we can pick up the time later . Right

1:12:26

, Because a lot of you know , we know the

1:12:28

first , say , five miles of

1:12:30

a Disney race are going to be slower . We expect

1:12:32

that . We communicate that to our group too

1:12:35

. I think that's the biggest thing that I've

1:12:37

learned moving forward

1:12:39

in pacing is don't be afraid

1:12:41

to say you're slowly off

1:12:43

or you're behind . I communicate that

1:12:45

directly with them and my big line

1:12:48

is you know what we're going to get behind

1:12:50

in the first couple of miles , but if we

1:12:52

, the pacers , do our job right , you

1:12:54

won't know it or you'll barely know that we've

1:12:56

made up the time .

1:12:57

Again , my biggest thing if Disney can

1:12:59

find some way to truly give

1:13:01

AWD what they need

1:13:03

to have a very safe and successful race

1:13:06

. That's all I'm asking

1:13:08

. You know what I mean ? I just like I just

1:13:10

I've heard of too many things , especially

1:13:13

in the Corral B situation , of

1:13:15

how large it was , and I just

1:13:17

I felt so incredibly bad .

1:13:20

I am really looking forward

1:13:22

to next season to

1:13:25

see how run Disney

1:13:28

and track shack do the corral

1:13:30

system for um

1:13:33

for this upcoming race season because

1:13:35

, being in C , obviously

1:13:38

we were there to experience all

1:13:40

the waves and

1:13:42

I remember I think Carissa had made a comment

1:13:44

that in total there

1:13:47

were going to be

1:14:14

, I think , 28 waves for the race . Jeez , almost

1:14:16

half of those waves were

1:14:18

corral b . Yeah , and I wonder if , yeah , and having to catch

1:14:20

up and everything like that

1:14:22

, I wonder

1:14:24

if there can be some type of

1:14:27

adjustment that can be made

1:14:29

to just help evenly

1:14:31

space things out a little bit better . Bob

1:14:34

, when you and I started doing Run Disney , it

1:14:37

was corrals like A through

1:14:39

P or O or something like

1:14:41

that . Yeah , I remember .

1:14:43

O , but that's

1:14:45

only 15 cor . 15 corrals , well , that's

1:14:47

a lot of corrals . But yes , they

1:14:50

didn't . They didn't do uh waves

1:14:52

inside those corrals though correct .

1:14:53

So like the thing that I'm intrigued to know

1:14:55

is , from a race logistics standpoint

1:14:58

, what

1:15:00

is more effective ? Five

1:15:03

corrals with waves within

1:15:05

each corral , or just separating

1:15:07

everybody into their own

1:15:09

legitimate corral and having them go

1:15:11

off Again ? I don't know what the right

1:15:13

answer is . That's why there are people who do this for a living

1:15:15

, but yeah

1:15:18

, again .

1:15:20

I wonder better things that Disney could do

1:15:22

.

1:15:22

I know Adam had a thought or

1:15:24

a suggestion to kind of space

1:15:26

out maybe

1:15:29

a better improvement on it , I guess

1:15:31

you could say I know

1:15:33

they've done work in the past with putting

1:15:35

a lot more time between the wave

1:15:37

releases and I know

1:15:40

like . So it's a mixed group in

1:15:42

B normally , right . So you've got Club

1:15:44

Run Disney . All those wonderful

1:15:46

members get put up there and

1:15:48

that's a wonderful perk . And

1:15:51

as a Club Run Disney . That's

1:15:54

what you're after . You

1:15:56

want to be a part of the club . You want to get

1:15:59

these wonderful perks . You get to register early and

1:16:01

that's amazing . I wish I could do it . I

1:16:04

know right . But

1:16:06

I think from

1:16:09

just a running perspective

1:16:11

and a safety perspective , I

1:16:13

feel like proof of time would still be a wise

1:16:15

thing to do in general . But

1:16:19

then maybe give club Disney members

1:16:21

them

1:16:25

like a corral advancement of one

1:16:27

right , so where you would

1:16:29

normally fall you're going to get the benefit

1:16:31

of a bump up . But

1:16:34

I think in this what we've seen

1:16:36

over time is , with B getting so

1:16:38

congested and so crowded

1:16:41

, it really has , in my opinion

1:16:44

, added to a safety factor . That's . That's

1:16:46

a little concerning and I think we

1:16:48

saw that this weekend . I

1:16:50

don't , I don't believe there was any major , major

1:16:53

issues , injuries , but

1:16:55

again , I don't see the report , but

1:16:58

to me I felt like there was

1:17:00

a lot of close calls .

1:17:02

Yeah , a lot of unnecessary close

1:17:04

calls .

1:17:05

Yeah , it was still a great weekend

1:17:07

. I don't want to play it down that it wasn't a wonderful

1:17:09

weekend and so much fun and we still

1:17:12

had amazing pacing groups and

1:17:14

we had a ton of success across the board

1:17:16

. I just would like to see a little

1:17:19

bit more risk

1:17:22

avoidance if possible .

1:17:23

And I think the last thing and to kind

1:17:25

of divert the topic just slightly

1:17:27

, but just so everybody has an idea of what

1:17:30

it's like running with a pacer

1:17:32

and I kind of got this idea , obviously

1:17:35

because I got to finally experience it . I've never

1:17:37

paced with anybody before , but

1:17:40

just so you have just a much

1:17:42

, a quick idea about running

1:17:44

with a pacer . As kind of a summary before

1:17:46

we wrap this part up , is that when you

1:17:49

are running with a pacer , like Adam said

1:17:51

, you may be behind on time

1:17:53

at the beginning . You will work over

1:17:55

that time later on to catch up to

1:17:57

it . Just know that when we say

1:18:00

we're averaging like again , what

1:18:02

was yours ? I know mine was 10 . What

1:18:04

was your average mile ?

1:18:05

I was a bump back to 1330

1:18:08

.

1:18:08

Yeah . So if you're running a 1330 , that's

1:18:10

an average across all that time

1:18:12

, across the 10 miles . So you , there

1:18:15

may be times , you we may be doing faster than

1:18:17

that . Just kind of be aware of that . But

1:18:19

we act as the finish line . When

1:18:21

you see a pacing group with that

1:18:23

flag , we are quoting that finish

1:18:25

line as we are either running

1:18:28

with you passing you or you

1:18:30

passing us . You're getting the head , which

1:18:32

yay , prs . But

1:18:35

we do act as a finish line and I think

1:18:37

the most rewarding thing as a pacer is getting

1:18:39

to talk to people

1:18:41

along the way and encouraging people

1:18:44

and seeing them . It's like when you're

1:18:46

if you have little kids and they

1:18:48

graduate high school or even

1:18:51

kindergarten and you're kind of like , oh

1:18:53

my gosh , it's like 0.2 away . Fly

1:18:55

my little birdies , fly , go get that PR

1:18:57

.

1:18:59

It's so true .

1:19:01

I wish you guys could see Jack

1:19:03

, because she's doing the little

1:19:05

arm motions like she's flying

1:19:07

right here in the room Because somebody

1:19:10

wanted to stay with us . They wanted to stay

1:19:12

with us and Hamish was like

1:19:14

no , go get your time . You

1:19:16

can do this . Go crush it . And

1:19:18

as much as we appreciate you being with us , you're

1:19:21

right there . Go and beat this time

1:19:23

.

1:19:25

So that is a huge , huge thing

1:19:27

for us . We loved that part . I

1:19:29

mean , first of all , Jack

1:19:32

did amazing pacing she doesn't

1:19:34

give herself enough credit . She did an amazing

1:19:37

pacing job . So huge , huge , huge kudos

1:19:39

to Jack , especially in your first one , because

1:19:41

it is nerve-wracking my first

1:19:43

pacing . I was a nervous wreck and

1:19:45

I I did it with our good friend , tina

1:19:47

rourke , and she's an amazing

1:19:49

veteran pacer and helped

1:19:52

along the whole way . We learned the alphabet game

1:19:54

. So I give her all the credit for the alphabet game that I

1:19:56

will use every time I pace . But

1:19:59

when we get to the last couple miles

1:20:01

, that's our favorite part , right , just

1:20:03

like you said , I always turn

1:20:05

around and say you know what ? I got good news and

1:20:08

I got bad news . The great

1:20:10

news is is you're going to meet your goal . You stuck with

1:20:12

us . You have done an absolutely amazing

1:20:14

job . The bad news is we

1:20:16

want you to leave us and go crush the

1:20:18

ending . Right , we want you to , just like

1:20:21

you said , fly like a bird and get

1:20:23

that time . And most

1:20:25

do , but not all do .

1:20:32

And they just kind of cruise along and go . And as a future reference , I was going to do a video

1:20:34

for this for YouTube . But because I feel like I'm more in training

1:20:36

at the moment with pacing , I didn't feel comfortable

1:20:38

doing any kind of videos during

1:20:40

that event , and I'm glad I didn't , because there was a lot

1:20:43

going on and it was very quick and

1:20:45

I had a lot of learning to do . But there will

1:20:47

be a future video , so that way

1:20:49

, if you guys ever had any questions about , um

1:20:51

, running with a pacer , what it's like and

1:20:53

so on , um , there will be a video out

1:20:55

in the future about that , because there's so much I

1:20:57

didn't know that I would still love to share .

1:21:00

But good stuff . The

1:21:02

uh , the Galloway Pacers at disney

1:21:04

well , at any place you'll find a galloway pacers

1:21:07

do a tremendous

1:21:09

job . They're professionals , coach

1:21:12

twigs kind of uh , heads up that

1:21:14

group and they provide a

1:21:16

wonderful , wonderful service . So

1:21:18

thank you , guys , thanks for doing

1:21:21

it and , adam , thanks for dropping by and chatting

1:21:23

with us about it for the Springtime Surprise

1:21:25

event .

1:21:27

My pleasure Anytime I get to come on the

1:21:29

podcast . I'm a giddy

1:21:31

little girl .

1:21:34

Other than that , it's very

1:21:37

rewarding seeing those people that

1:21:39

you're pacing with hit

1:21:41

those goals and hear how well

1:21:43

they did with hit those goals and hear how well they did and

1:21:45

, like you know , like 0.2 miles away

1:21:47

you get to see somebody finish and crush their goals

1:21:49

because their goal was to try and get a 140

1:21:52

, which

1:21:56

is what we were doing or any other goals , and it just feels very rewarding

1:21:59

and that was the thing that I was really excited

1:22:01

for and you guys . Last thing so I'm going down the last point

1:22:03

, one of the miles towards the finish

1:22:05

, and all of

1:22:07

a sudden I can hear Carissa saying

1:22:09

my name Jacqueline Wiederman

1:22:12

, coming to the finish , and there

1:22:14

was a slight pause and then she

1:22:16

looks over at me as we pass them

1:22:18

. She's like , is that Jack

1:22:20

from Rise and Run ? And

1:22:23

I look over . I was like bye . As

1:22:26

I'm crossing the finish line , she's like

1:22:28

, oh , look at Jack , she's pacing for the

1:22:30

first time . I was like , oh , stop it

1:22:33

. You made me smile , but

1:22:35

thank you for that .

1:22:37

Jack , we're proud of you . That's neat . I

1:22:40

hope you got a big kick out of pacing and

1:22:43

I hope you want to do it again . I think that's

1:22:45

really cool .

1:22:46

I just want to give a huge shout out to the Galloway

1:22:49

Pacers after this uh

1:22:51

experience , I just want to give you

1:22:53

guys a huge respect to you guys

1:22:55

. You guys work extremely

1:22:57

hard and get people to their finish

1:22:59

times and goals and are so encouraging

1:23:02

and you are so wonderful

1:23:04

and I just want to give you guys huge

1:23:06

props for everything that you do and it's

1:23:08

I hope you know it's greatly appreciated .

1:23:10

Very good , jack , very good Thanks . All

1:23:13

right , 10 miler , 10 miler for me

1:23:16

. Last run of the

1:23:18

Walt Disney world

1:23:20

. Perfect season Four weekends

1:23:22

, 13 races

1:23:24

. I

1:23:30

forget how many miles , but it's a couple . Hey , two years after having

1:23:32

a total knee replacement , year of my 70th

1:23:34

birthday , less than two years

1:23:36

after having my heel reconstructed

1:23:38

and my achilles tendon fixed , fixed , I

1:23:41

felt pretty good about that . I

1:23:44

enjoyed the run . It was

1:23:46

hot . Florida boy here

1:23:48

didn't think it was that bad , but

1:23:50

I certainly folks from other parts of

1:23:52

the country were having trouble and

1:23:55

I get it . I do , I do genuinely

1:23:57

get it . Do point in the upper sixties . That's

1:24:00

significant . We we

1:24:02

do acclimate to it some here , but it's

1:24:05

still a big deal Loved

1:24:07

the fact that we had a big group and

1:24:09

we the group , seemed to float . I'd

1:24:12

be with these 10 or 12 people

1:24:14

and then I'd be with these eight or 10 people and

1:24:16

it was fun . It was

1:24:18

neat . Course was okay . Kind

1:24:21

of a long drag on the finish , a great start , then

1:24:23

kind of a long drag to get done

1:24:25

, but golly

1:24:27

, pace was okay

1:24:30

. We didn't set any speed

1:24:33

records , we weren't trying , we

1:24:35

had fun . I

1:24:38

did get into Epcot and I

1:24:40

kept thinking I really don't

1:24:42

want this to end and I kept

1:24:44

thinking I really don't want this to end . I started slowing down

1:24:46

. I

1:24:48

don't want this to end . I got to see Jeff , which has become

1:24:50

now a tradition , which is

1:24:52

wonderful . I got

1:24:55

to see the rest

1:24:57

of our race announcers and

1:25:00

then we finally had to suck

1:25:02

it up and cross the finish line and it was hung

1:25:04

together . I appreciate you guys hanging out while

1:25:07

I was visiting and I know some of you visited

1:25:09

also because that group

1:25:11

has become friends of ours as well

1:25:13

, which is just

1:25:17

wonderful and

1:25:19

eventually we had to cross the finish line and

1:25:22

we had to put the 23-24 season to

1:25:24

rest and that

1:25:26

was it . Well

1:25:29

, no , not quite . We have one more thing to talk

1:25:31

about after this , but

1:25:35

I will try to get it a

1:25:38

little bit better together

1:25:40

for next week . When we talk

1:25:42

about season recaps , when everybody wants

1:25:44

to talk about their season recap , a

1:25:46

reminder if you've got something , you can call us

1:25:48

on the hotline and

1:25:51

leave us your favorite part of the season . But

1:25:54

, greg , any thoughts , recollections

1:25:56

, highlights on that 10-miler for you .

1:25:59

One of the biggest memories that I had from the 10 miler

1:26:01

and this kind of goes back

1:26:03

to being a testament to the community that

1:26:06

we have here decided that

1:26:08

I was going to run again with Kay

1:26:10

because I just had such a wonderful time running

1:26:13

the , or at least

1:26:15

starting the 10K with her . And

1:26:18

there was a new-ish

1:26:22

listener . There

1:26:27

was a new-ish listener , um , her name was nicole . I believe that she had come over and

1:26:29

introduced herself to all of us and everything like that , um , but she

1:26:32

didn't have anybody to run with

1:26:34

and , uh , you

1:26:36

know , at least that was going out to see . So

1:26:38

you know , k , and I told her to tag

1:26:41

along with us and

1:26:43

it was just wonderful to get to meet her . And then

1:26:45

she ended up actually finding a friend

1:26:47

on the course at a character stop , and

1:26:50

so we ended up getting separated . But what's

1:26:52

the beautiful thing about Run Disney is

1:26:54

, even though we

1:26:57

got separated , we literally

1:26:59

crossed the finish line almost

1:27:01

together .

1:27:02

Oh yeah .

1:27:03

We ended up seeing her again in the finisher shoot

1:27:05

, which was absolutely wonderful . But

1:27:08

again , very similar situation to Saturday

1:27:10

Started out with Kay , nicole

1:27:13

and then all of

1:27:15

a sudden , it didn't take long but we

1:27:17

caught up to you

1:27:19

and the rest

1:27:21

of the big Rise and Run crew that went out

1:27:24

B . Speaking to the weather

1:27:26

now , bob , you hit the nail right on the head

1:27:28

. As a Floridian , southerners

1:27:30

probably had a little

1:27:32

bit easier time with this race

1:27:34

. I know you and I had a conversation as

1:27:37

we were entering Hollywood Studios , trying to take

1:27:39

guesses to see what and

1:27:41

this is a phrase we haven't brought up on the podcast

1:27:43

in a while what the dew point was , and

1:27:48

I remember by the time I

1:27:50

think we

1:27:53

had made a guess , that the dew point was

1:27:55

65 . Right , and by

1:27:57

the time it ended it was like 69

1:27:59

or 70 .

1:28:01

It wasn't 70 . It was either 68 or 69

1:28:03

. Okay , which is still significant , especially

1:28:06

again if you're coming from a northern state .

1:28:08

Yeah , because I mean my barometer as someone

1:28:10

in the northeast is . They say on

1:28:12

the local weather stations here that

1:28:14

a dew point for here anything

1:28:16

above 60 , is technically

1:28:19

humid to us and everything like that . So I never quote-unquote

1:28:21

struggled technically , you know , humid to us and everything like that . So you know , um , you know I I never

1:28:23

quote unquote struggled , but I mean I have

1:28:25

never been so

1:28:28

damp before in

1:28:30

my life . I mean , I , I literally

1:28:32

could wring my hawaiian shirt out

1:28:34

. It was . It was that bad . Again

1:28:37

, just a ton of fun going from character to character

1:28:39

, just having a blast with friends . Two

1:28:42

special things that I do want to shout

1:28:44

out , um , the first is and

1:28:46

I learned this fact through um

1:28:49

, the gentleman who we've mentioned

1:28:51

several times on this episode , tony

1:28:53

, who again decided not to wear a shirt as refugio

1:28:56

he was . He

1:28:58

was with a group of people . Uh , getting their photo

1:29:00

was just before mile seven with powerline max

1:29:02

and out

1:29:04

of the corner of his eye , tony

1:29:07

saw Alan and Grace . Alan

1:29:11

, you know , as we know , perfect

1:29:13

marathoner , you know , is a legend

1:29:16

in his community . Hollywood

1:29:18

was able to convince him and Grace

1:29:20

to get off the course and join

1:29:23

him and his group for a

1:29:25

photo with powerline max . Did

1:29:27

you know that is the first ever

1:29:29

character stop that grace

1:29:31

and alan have never done no

1:29:34

I didn't know no

1:29:36

so do that math and

1:29:38

figure out how many characters stops the two

1:29:40

of them who have bypassed . So bravo

1:29:43

um to hollywood for convincing

1:29:45

him and bravo to grace and young for having

1:29:47

picking the best character

1:29:49

, um , the , the best character to

1:29:52

, uh , you know , get their photo taken

1:29:54

with in terms of how about that ? So that was really cool

1:29:56

, uh . But then the last thing I'll bring

1:29:58

up and I know I I was teasing

1:30:01

her earlier in the episode we got to talk about

1:30:03

k , because I think she

1:30:05

is going to usurp hollywood

1:30:08

in terms of run

1:30:10

disney public relations and media

1:30:12

. Because

1:30:14

, um , during the follow

1:30:17

the leader um section of

1:30:19

the 5k , um , you

1:30:21

know , k let us in and mark was beside

1:30:23

her and um the

1:30:25

so mike took a photo of the two of them

1:30:28

and , lo and behold , um k

1:30:30

and and mark were featured during

1:30:33

um the run disney instagram

1:30:35

post . Uh , for the 5k . So

1:30:38

then k and I crossed the finish

1:30:40

line with Bob on Saturday

1:30:44

and all of a sudden

1:30:46

, we're walking through the shoot

1:30:48

and there is a Run Disney PhotoPass

1:30:50

photographer that asks Kay to

1:30:53

come over to the side , takes her photo

1:30:55

. Now , she did not get featured that

1:30:57

day , but at least she was pulled out

1:30:59

of line . So after that happened

1:31:01

and I saw her at the meetup , I said , kay , this

1:31:04

is what's going to happen when

1:31:06

we cross the finish line of the 10

1:31:08

miler , because we're going to cross as a group

1:31:12

and one Disney pulls you out

1:31:14

of the crowd . You are going to

1:31:16

bring all your friends with you so

1:31:19

we all can be part of

1:31:21

this wonderful celebration . And

1:31:24

she was all embarrassed and she thought it was cute and everything

1:31:26

like that , and she's like , I'll see what I can do , but it's

1:31:28

probably not going to happen . Blah , blah , blah , blah , blah . And

1:31:31

all of a sudden there

1:31:34

was some type of miscommunication . I

1:31:36

thought we were all done talking with

1:31:39

Pelkey and Carissa and Tracy

1:31:41

and Riley , and I was like

1:31:43

, all right , everybody , here we go

1:31:45

, let's finish strong . And

1:31:48

Kay bolts off and I bolt

1:31:50

off and then all of a sudden I turn

1:31:52

around and everybody's still there talking

1:31:54

and so

1:31:56

, like I was like trying to like hold the line to see if

1:31:58

I could get more people to cross with us and everything

1:32:00

like that . And wouldn't

1:32:03

you know , I crossed the finish line . And

1:32:05

who is finishing up their photo shoot with

1:32:08

a Run Disney PhotoPass photographer ? But

1:32:10

Kay . And as we all know now

1:32:12

, kay was the featured

1:32:14

first photo in the Instagram

1:32:17

post and on

1:32:19

the Facebook page . So bravo

1:32:21

, kay , you are Run Disney royalty

1:32:23

. Now you

1:32:25

have to pick your name in terms of how you want to be referred

1:32:28

to . I know I've been calling you Beverly Hills , tony's

1:32:31

been calling you 90210K , so

1:32:35

we need to come up with a great name for you , but

1:32:38

it was great to see her get featured so

1:32:40

many times during this race .

1:32:42

Absolutely . She has some of the best costumes

1:32:44

every single weekend .

1:32:46

And here's the part that I didn't realize . So

1:32:48

she had her face all done up in

1:32:51

lion makeup . Right , I

1:32:53

thought she did that on her own . I

1:32:56

did too . She had it done

1:32:58

at Disney Springs .

1:33:00

Right .

1:33:00

She went to the meetup or she went down

1:33:02

to disney springs early , found the people

1:33:05

, asked them if

1:33:07

they could do the line , said yes , went

1:33:11

to the meetup , then left

1:33:13

the meetup . Went to sephora

1:33:15

, got the free samples

1:33:17

of the face cleanser so her , her

1:33:20

skin was , you know , nice and clean and everything

1:33:22

like that . Then they proceeded

1:33:24

to do the makeup , then

1:33:26

went back to sephora and

1:33:29

got free samples of the like setting

1:33:32

, like foundation or whatever

1:33:34

and then again

1:33:37

I , I don't know these things . And then she

1:33:39

said she proceeded to walk at a snail's

1:33:41

pace back to the bus so

1:33:44

that her body wouldn't get hot , so it would

1:33:46

melt . And she literally slept

1:33:48

Saturday night in that

1:33:50

makeup and made sure not

1:33:52

to roll over so that it could be pristine

1:33:55

for the entire race . So

1:33:57

, Kay , that is dedication

1:33:59

to another level that

1:34:02

I don't think Hollywood would ever do . So

1:34:05

good on you .

1:34:07

But I thought that was an awesome story . It

1:34:09

is hey

1:34:12

. Before we left on

1:34:14

Sunday , we went over to the splash

1:34:16

party at Typhoon Lagoon . Greg , it

1:34:18

was just you and me , the folks

1:34:20

who are here . Becky

1:34:22

was with us . I enjoyed it . I

1:34:25

thought it was fun . We got there

1:34:27

. We drove over together . We got there a

1:34:29

little after it started . We

1:34:32

always want to ask the question is it worth the

1:34:34

$85 ? You start asking that question

1:34:36

at Disney World . You're not going to do a whole lot of stuff

1:34:38

. I enjoyed it . If

1:34:41

it comes up again , I would do it again . I found it relaxing

1:34:43

. I had a good time . I

1:34:45

had a mickey bar , I had some popcorn , had

1:34:47

some soda and

1:34:49

rode some water

1:34:51

rides that I would not have normally

1:34:54

done . You guys tried to kill

1:34:56

me , but that's okay . I

1:34:58

survived . I

1:35:00

. I thought it was , and it was a pleasant

1:35:02

evening . It wasn't terribly hot . It

1:35:04

probably could have been a few degrees warmer

1:35:06

and we'd have felt maybe even a little better but

1:35:09

, it was a pleasant evening . What'd you think ?

1:35:12

I really enjoyed the event

1:35:14

. I thought it was very well done

1:35:16

. After

1:35:19

experiencing it and then

1:35:21

having some time to think on it

1:35:25

and I've seen a lot of posts on Facebook asking

1:35:27

people is it worth it and would you do it

1:35:29

again . To me

1:35:31

, what made the event successful

1:35:34

was and this

1:35:36

goes back to something we've been talking about this entire episode

1:35:38

is the community and the family

1:35:40

that you're with . Being

1:35:42

with the people is what

1:35:44

made that event awesome

1:35:46

for me , yeah . So to

1:35:48

me , if included

1:35:53

fountain beverages , mickey

1:35:56

bars , mickey sandwiches , the fruit bar

1:35:58

, the popcorn

1:36:01

and the commemorative item yeah

1:36:03

, right . Um , the popcorn and the commemorative item yeah , right . If , if those

1:36:05

things are not important to

1:36:07

you , then , in my humble

1:36:09

opinion , the 50

1:36:12

off water park ticket

1:36:14

that they have been offering for

1:36:16

all the race weekends . I

1:36:18

think that is a better value

1:36:21

than what this event

1:36:23

was . But

1:36:25

that being said , though , would

1:36:28

I do this event again ? If I knew a bunch of

1:36:30

my Rise and Run friends were doing it

1:36:32

, then , yes , I would do it again .

1:36:34

Yeah , there's the difference right there .

1:36:37

The only thing , though , that I in

1:36:39

Run Disney , if you are listening . The

1:36:42

only other logistical changes that I would make now

1:36:44

granted , I did not , I will be . I

1:36:46

will fully admit this . I did not experience

1:36:48

this firsthand , but this is

1:36:50

secondhand information from other

1:36:52

friends I talked to over the course of the night is

1:36:55

for that price

1:36:57

point , I think there should

1:37:00

be direct transportation from

1:37:03

your resort to Typhoon

1:37:05

Lagoon . Yeah , oh yeah . What

1:37:07

they were asking people to do is

1:37:10

to take a bus

1:37:12

to Disney Springs and then a bus

1:37:14

to transfer over to Typhoon

1:37:16

Lagoon , because they're literally right down the street

1:37:18

from one another and

1:37:21

a couple of friends I was chatting to about this . The point

1:37:23

that I was

1:37:25

making and I think this is justifiable is

1:37:28

we know , and

1:37:31

Jack , as you mentioned earlier in the episode

1:37:33

, the

1:37:35

expo on the last day

1:37:37

is pretty dead

1:37:39

and there's not a ton of people that go

1:37:41

to it . But in theory you

1:37:44

can still get resort transportation to

1:37:46

and from your resort to the expo . So

1:37:49

if they're willing to offer that

1:37:52

, then I feel like they should be

1:37:54

able to offer , you know

1:37:56

, the motor coach transportation from your resort

1:37:58

to to this

1:38:00

event , to this event and

1:38:02

apparently from friends I was talking

1:38:04

to . That

1:38:08

conversation was brought up on the buses between several people that were riding

1:38:10

it . So I think that would be one change I

1:38:12

would like to see . And then the second

1:38:14

thing too is and

1:38:16

maybe this was offered , but I just didn't see it , it's

1:38:18

just maybe a map of

1:38:20

where the

1:38:23

different snack locations were

1:38:25

um you know where you could get the mickey

1:38:27

bars and the popcorn . And

1:38:30

then also there were , you know , there were special

1:38:32

character greetings as well . I remember , I

1:38:34

think it was when we were walking over to the um

1:38:37

, I can't remember the name of the attraction

1:38:40

, but essentially the water roller coaster . We

1:38:42

were like , oh there's . Grush and . Guster Grush

1:38:45

, thank you . There's

1:38:47

Doug and Carl and

1:38:49

Russell

1:38:51

doing a character line and

1:38:56

there really wasn't much of a line . But unless

1:38:58

you weren't walking around that area

1:39:00

you would have had no idea that those characters

1:39:03

were out meeting and greeting and everything like that

1:39:05

. So , um , but outside that I thought

1:39:07

it was very well organized . I think it got uh

1:39:09

received with a lot of um , positive

1:39:12

feedback . Um again , just twinker , a few of those

1:39:14

things , but I I really really enjoyed

1:39:16

myself for , um , you know

1:39:18

, the second year in a row of doing typhoon

1:39:20

lagoon in some fashion post

1:39:23

uh , springtime surprise so

1:39:25

I just have like two or three questions that

1:39:27

are pretty quick .

1:39:28

What was the commemorative item ? so

1:39:31

it was a waterproof

1:39:33

bag which

1:39:36

I was probably only big

1:39:38

enough to maybe fit like one swimsuit

1:39:40

in it um a

1:39:43

plastic cup that had the springtime

1:39:45

surprise logo on it , a

1:39:48

glow stick and

1:39:50

like a little glow up necklace

1:39:54

that had stitch on

1:39:56

it that was the that was the commemorative

1:39:58

item yeah , it wasn't that big of a

1:40:00

deal , jack , I was going to say

1:40:02

, if you look at how much the H2O Glow

1:40:05

parties are , which are about , I think , $65

1:40:08

per night , and

1:40:10

then you compare it to the $85

1:40:12

, I just figured that $20 difference would have

1:40:14

been what the commemorative item would have

1:40:16

tallied up to ?

1:40:17

Yeah , I don't think so .

1:40:19

No .

1:40:20

No , maybe seven or eight Mickey bars , maybe . If

1:40:22

you ask them no , no , maybe seven or eight Mickey bars , maybe .

1:40:23

And then I guess my other question

1:40:25

is was it crowded ? Because

1:40:29

I know they were still selling those tickets online , because you know how

1:40:31

, like for Wine and Dine , you have that event that's free for everybody . That

1:40:34

did the half marathon or challenge or

1:40:36

whatever . So I know

1:40:38

that's usually crowded . Was it crowded for this event

1:40:40

?

1:40:40

No , but there were a lot

1:40:42

of people there , but but it even though

1:40:44

there was a sizable number of people there , which

1:40:47

was great to see no it didn't it

1:40:49

never felt crowded ? You know very easy

1:40:51

to get um . You know a beach chair

1:40:53

um . You know , probably the longest

1:40:55

we waited for an attraction was two

1:40:57

minutes oh yeah but which is why

1:41:00

I was making the comparison in terms of value

1:41:02

to the 50% off ticket

1:41:04

, because to me we

1:41:07

had the exact same experience when we did

1:41:09

the 50% off ticket last

1:41:11

year . Again , wasn't

1:41:13

overly crowded , was easy to find

1:41:15

a chair , barely waited for attraction

1:41:18

times . So you know hence

1:41:20

why I'm making the apples to

1:41:22

oranges .

1:41:24

Oranges yeah , oranges are our perspective there . We're

1:41:26

friends to each other's sandwiches , Greg

1:41:28

.

1:41:32

All right , my friends , as

1:41:34

it did in real life . This

1:41:38

season must come to an end . Next

1:41:41

week we want to talk

1:41:43

about the season as a whole , share

1:41:46

some memories

1:41:48

from the 23-24 season , but

1:41:50

that's it for Springtime

1:41:52

Surprise . If you were there and we

1:41:55

saw you , great . If we

1:41:57

didn't , wonderful . We hope you had

1:41:59

a great time and

1:42:01

we hope we see you next time . Let's

1:42:05

move on a little bit , clean up a couple

1:42:07

things and we'll get out of here the

1:42:10

101 Dalmatians idea

1:42:12

for the 5K of

1:42:15

next year's the 2025

1:42:18

Wine and Dime Marathon Weekend

1:42:20

5K is taking

1:42:22

off . We've

1:42:25

got some legwork to do , some planning to

1:42:27

do , but I want to

1:42:29

get on that here in the next week or so

1:42:31

and see if we can get things going

1:42:33

. Hey , greg , did you ever

1:42:35

finish your rides over there at Magic Kingdom

1:42:37

?

1:42:38

Yes , I did . It

1:42:40

was a journey , some

1:42:42

would say . I got

1:42:45

started on Thursday afternoon

1:42:47

, which is why I probably also did not

1:42:49

spend as much time

1:42:51

at the Expo as I did in the

1:42:53

past in

1:42:56

that time frame

1:42:59

. uh , the final tally

1:43:01

came out to nine

1:43:03

rides on the people mover and

1:43:06

nine rides on the magic carpets

1:43:08

oh , okay so

1:43:10

, uh , I knew I had some work that I

1:43:12

needed to put in , so hence why I went over there the

1:43:15

first day . I

1:43:17

did seven

1:43:20

rides on the carpets , um

1:43:22

, and then three on the people mover

1:43:24

, and at one point I think

1:43:26

it was after like my fourth ride uh

1:43:29

, the one cast member was like hi

1:43:32

, welcome back , um . To

1:43:34

which my response to her was thanks

1:43:37

for having me back , um , just to let

1:43:39

you know , I'm not some 38 year

1:43:41

old creep who has an obsession with distraction

1:43:43

without a small child with me . And

1:43:45

I explained to her that I was doing this for charity or whatever , and

1:43:47

she's like oh , I absolutely love it when

1:43:49

people do that . We actually just had

1:43:51

a guy in here last week who rode this thing

1:43:54

16 times in a row

1:43:56

and I was like boy

1:43:58

and I thought nine was bad .

1:43:59

There's the bar man .

1:44:01

Yeah , that is a bar , that's

1:44:05

for sure . Um , so pretty much um all of

1:44:07

thursday . And then I went , yeah

1:44:09

, so after the 10 miler on , uh

1:44:12

, sunday , um , got more

1:44:14

rides done , but this time it was a lot of fun because I

1:44:16

was doing it with friends . Yeah , um

1:44:18

, so I got to do a couple of rides with jack

1:44:20

and Allie without an E

1:44:23

, and Tara

1:44:25

and Rachel , so doing those was

1:44:27

a ton of fun . And then I know at one

1:44:29

point Kay had said

1:44:31

to me that she wanted to be there when

1:44:34

I went on my last magic

1:44:36

carpet ride . So

1:44:38

she did the last two with me and

1:44:41

she absolutely loved it . When the fact , when the ride

1:44:43

first took off , I immediately

1:44:46

got spit on by a camel and

1:44:50

, for those of you that are wondering , my spit count

1:44:53

ended at five times

1:44:55

over the course

1:44:57

of the entire nine rides , so

1:45:00

that was a ton of fun . So to everyone

1:45:02

who donated for

1:45:06

this attraction challenge on behalf of give , give

1:45:08

kids the world , I greatly appreciate it . You

1:45:11

know you're really doing , you know your

1:45:13

money is going towards a extremely

1:45:15

noble cause , so that children

1:45:17

who are in a critically ill nature

1:45:19

have the chance for a vacation lifetime . And

1:45:22

from the bottom of my heart , I just want to say thank you again .

1:45:24

Good deal . Well done , my friend . I'm

1:45:27

looking at my notes here . One of the questions I

1:45:29

had to answer and we're going to put this off

1:45:31

is all right , the season's over . What do we

1:45:33

do now ? We'll talk about that

1:45:35

next week . I've

1:45:38

mentioned it a couple times that the Rise

1:45:41

and Run merchandise shop is going

1:45:43

to shut down here in the near future

1:45:45

. We will make

1:45:48

sure that our orders , those

1:45:50

that have been placed , are up to date and shipped before

1:45:52

we shut everything down and swap

1:45:54

stuff out . So if you're having a problem

1:45:56

, please let us know . I know I've already heard

1:45:58

from one friend , but we're going to

1:46:00

check on that and make sure everything

1:46:02

is out before we swap things

1:46:04

over .

1:46:05

There's only a couple of orders still out

1:46:07

there and they should be processed soon

1:46:10

Sounds good , John , Thank you .

1:46:13

Questions starting to pop up in the chat

1:46:15

group for Disneyland Halloween . Will

1:46:18

there be a meetup ? Oh , come on

1:46:20

. Yeah , there'll be a meetup . How can I go someplace and not

1:46:22

have a meetup ? There'll be a meetup . Oh , come on . Yeah , there'll be a meetup . How can I go someplace and

1:46:24

not have a meetup ? There'll be a meetup . Now

1:46:26

I'm not flying across country

1:46:29

, nor is Becky with 20

1:46:31

dozen cookies . Somebody

1:46:34

on the West Coast wants to bring cookies

1:46:36

to the meetup ? Get with

1:46:38

me , Bob , at riseandrunpodcastcom

1:46:41

. We'll chat , but there

1:46:43

will be a meetup . I sure

1:46:46

hope to see you there . Upcoming

1:46:50

episodes 136 . We've talked about it several

1:46:52

times already the season

1:46:55

recap . I will remind you one

1:46:57

more time . If you'd like to

1:46:59

leave us a note , something

1:47:01

, a story about

1:47:04

this season 727-266-2344

1:47:10

. Give us a call , Leave

1:47:12

us a recorded message . Okay

1:47:15

, friends , it is time for

1:47:18

the Race Report . The

1:47:20

Race Report is brought to you by

1:47:22

Stoked Metabolic Training

1:47:24

.

1:47:25

Yes . So if you guys are looking to

1:47:27

get muscles by Tom

1:47:29

from the tutu

1:47:31

guys , please go to

1:47:33

stokesfit slash , rise

1:47:36

and run coaching where you

1:47:38

can get $50 off a

1:47:40

month and it's really great and I'm

1:47:43

loving my experience . And remember

1:47:45

, the consultation is free

1:47:47

, so all you do is just go ahead and schedule a chat

1:47:50

and see if it's for you .

1:47:51

Thanks , jack . Tom's a

1:47:53

good guy and we appreciate him being

1:47:56

part of the family and we appreciate that offer he

1:47:58

extends to our friends . All

1:48:00

right , a little bit of a different report this week and I'm

1:48:02

not sure why this is . I

1:48:05

think perhaps our friends who were

1:48:07

running looked at the volume of

1:48:09

reports from the

1:48:12

weekend at Disney

1:48:14

. I went

1:48:16

and searched the best I could but I'm

1:48:20

missing . There are a lot of folks who said

1:48:22

they were running this weekend and I don't see reports

1:48:24

from them . Let me say this right

1:48:26

now If you left a report

1:48:29

and I'm not alluding to it tonight

1:48:31

, let me know . I'll catch

1:48:33

up with it next week . But here we go

1:48:35

. On Saturday in Milwaukee , wisconsin

1:48:38

, the Brew City 10K

1:48:40

. Katie was there . Oh

1:48:43

boy , here we go . I get to do Dutch

1:48:45

words , but I'm not sure

1:48:48

. This is in Russellville , tennessee

1:48:50

, the Nolichucky

1:48:52

Wine Run . I'm going

1:48:54

with that . Not a Dutch word , apparently

1:48:57

an English word Nolichucky Probably . I wonder

1:48:59

if that's a Native American word . Anyway

1:49:01

, megan could probably tell us . Megan ran that one

1:49:03

. The

1:49:06

Kraft Half Marathon and 5K

1:49:08

. Jeremy ran the half marathon In

1:49:12

Olathe , kansas , the

1:49:14

Garmin Olathe Marathon

1:49:16

in the land of Oz . Toto

1:49:19

, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore . Riley

1:49:22

did this State . Number 27

1:49:24

for Riley

1:49:26

. I'm pretty sure Riley's trying

1:49:29

to run marathon in all 50s

1:49:31

. So over halfway there In

1:49:34

Caseville , michigan

1:49:36

, the Thumb Coast

1:49:38

Ultramarathon 50K . Now

1:49:41

, if you're

1:49:43

not from michigan you

1:49:45

might not get this , but if you are

1:49:47

, or if you've ever met anyone from michigan

1:49:49

and you ask where they live

1:49:51

, the first thing they'll do is hold up their

1:49:54

hand like it's a mitten and

1:49:56

say , oh , I'm over here by the thumb . Or

1:49:58

I'm over here because the basic

1:50:00

part , not including the Peninsula , is shaped

1:50:03

like a mission , not like a mission like a mitten

1:50:05

. So if you

1:50:07

hold your right hand with

1:50:09

palm forward , caseville

1:50:12

is up there at the tip of your

1:50:14

thumb . Hence the

1:50:17

Thumb Coast Ultramarathon

1:50:20

. That's a long way , jeanette , to describe

1:50:22

what you did for your first ever

1:50:25

ultra marathon . Good

1:50:27

job Goals for the first

1:50:29

ever , and these are great goals for a first

1:50:31

ever ultra . Number one don't

1:50:33

get lost . Number two don't die

1:50:35

. And number three try to finish . She

1:50:38

all three that's

1:50:41

a pr finishes

1:50:44

50k and under seven hours

1:50:46

653 to be exact , better than she expected

1:50:48

. I think that's pretty darn decent . Especially

1:50:51

it was 25

1:50:53

dag gum degrees up there in case phil

1:50:55

, with 25 mile an hour winds . I

1:50:58

almost forget that there are still temperatures

1:51:00

like that in the country

1:51:02

at this time in the spring . It

1:51:05

snowed from miles

1:51:07

21 to 23 . Nonetheless

1:51:10

, jeanette says the race was well

1:51:12

organized , well marked , well supported , a

1:51:15

great experience . Hey look , anybody

1:51:17

want to come 2025

1:51:19

? It's not always 25

1:51:22

degrees in April in Michigan , you

1:51:24

might get 30 . How's

1:51:27

that ? In Springdale , arkansas , the Hog

1:51:29

Eye 10K . Shelby

1:51:31

Allison ran it . Lots of green fields

1:51:33

, shady trees , creeks , ponds

1:51:36

, little hills to keep

1:51:38

her entertained . She

1:51:47

had a PR three weeks ago at a 10K and now she's got another one . Shaved seven

1:51:49

minutes off in

1:51:51

the last three weeks . Shelby

1:51:55

Allison , nice job . Seven

1:51:57

minutes off in a 10K , that's better than a minute

1:52:00

a mile . Fort

1:52:02

Smith , arkansas , can only mean one thing our

1:52:04

buddy joe , the mains and miracles

1:52:06

5k of the amigos

1:52:08

. There were only two this time , but

1:52:10

their groupies were out in force . Joe's

1:52:13

buddy johnny got first place . Joe finished

1:52:15

fourth in the age group . Everything

1:52:18

was fine . They all had breakfast afterward

1:52:20

had a good run Over

1:52:23

in Kadena Air Base in

1:52:26

Okinawa , japan , at the Bob

1:52:28

Hope Elementary School's Month

1:52:30

of the Military Child 5K

1:52:33

, katie and her

1:52:35

8-year-old son , hunter

1:52:37

ran this one . Hunter ran this one last

1:52:39

year . Got sick , didn't

1:52:42

finish . Nailed it this

1:52:44

year , hunter , way

1:52:47

to redeem yourself . Congratulations

1:52:49

on a good run . Let's

1:52:51

move to Sunday . In Augusta

1:52:54

, georgia , doug and Nona

1:52:56

ran the Whiskey Run 10K

1:52:58

London

1:53:01

Marathon . I hope to get together with some of

1:53:03

these folks here in the upcoming days . But

1:53:05

for those who put in reports , amy

1:53:07

was there . Amy set a PB

1:53:11

in the marathon . See

1:53:15

, I can translate British to American

1:53:17

. Pb is a PR . So

1:53:20

good to go . London crowds

1:53:22

were epic . I don't doubt that at all

1:53:24

. Amy Around mile 19,

1:53:26

. She wasn't sure she was going to make that goal

1:53:29

. She wanted to do sub five but

1:53:31

she sucked it up , stayed

1:53:34

on target 4.57

1:53:37

for this personal best . That's

1:53:39

a 13 minute course improvement

1:53:42

time over 2022

1:53:44

and even

1:53:46

two minutes better than she did in

1:53:48

berlin not long ago . Katie

1:53:51

was there . Katie did her first london marathon

1:53:54

feeling great at the halfway point sub

1:53:56

two and a half , really good on

1:53:58

a marathon pace , and

1:54:00

she started to get into some

1:54:02

little head games , little mental struggles

1:54:04

around mile 16 , turning

1:54:08

right onto the mall in London

1:54:10

Seeing the finish line was

1:54:12

a true . I cannot

1:54:14

believe this moment , but the feeling

1:54:16

of crossing the line says Katie

1:54:20

was almost as good

1:54:22

as finishing Dopey

1:54:24

23 . Quite a comparison

1:54:26

, katie . I got to imagine . Both of those

1:54:29

are really , really impressive

1:54:31

and emotional Congratulations

1:54:33

. Let's see who else was there . Kristen was there

1:54:35

, michael , danielle

1:54:38

, rob and that

1:54:40

is all I see on our list . So congratulations

1:54:43

to our london marathon

1:54:45

world major runners . Great

1:54:47

job . In

1:54:50

the netherlands , in laura's

1:54:52

home town of ensiday

1:54:54

, the ensiday

1:54:58

half marathon , laura's

1:55:00

been dreaming of a sub two 15 half

1:55:02

for a long time . Her

1:55:05

PR going in goes back to 2017 , which

1:55:07

was right about two hours and 19 minutes

1:55:09

, not anymore

1:55:12

. She crushed it this time . She

1:55:14

ran the same course in two 1240

1:55:18

, followed the two 15 pacers

1:55:20

, had enough in the tank at the

1:55:22

end to kick it in and

1:55:27

knocked out a new PR . Although she

1:55:29

is no longer a client , laura

1:55:35

wanted to thank her friend , runfit Mama Kristen , for helping her out getting

1:55:37

to this point . In

1:55:40

Baton Rouge , louisiana , the great Rover

1:55:42

Road Run 5K . Emily was there and

1:55:45

we finish in Ann Arbor , michigan

1:55:47

, at the Big House 5K . Doug

1:55:50

and his son , noah . This is Noah's first

1:55:52

race ever . This particular

1:55:55

race ends at the home of the

1:55:57

2023 NCAA

1:55:59

Division I National Football Champions

1:56:02

. I'm just reading what Doug wrote no

1:56:06

commentary . Of course , that's correct , 100%

1:56:09

correct . Noah's first

1:56:11

race ever . He did great . They

1:56:14

did some shorter practice runs in the weeks

1:56:16

leading up and then did 60

1:56:18

, 30 intervals for

1:56:21

the entire 5K . Noah

1:56:23

buddy , that's a PR

1:56:25

and this bell is for you . And

1:56:29

that , my friends , concludes

1:56:32

the episode 135

1:56:35

race report . Friends

1:56:37

, there is a Zoom this week . I'm looking forward to it

1:56:39

. I'm looking forward to hearing your stories from Springtime

1:56:41

Surprise . We'll have it recorded

1:56:43

, posted in the Facebook group and

1:56:46

the audio available for our Patreons

1:56:48

later in the week . I'm

1:56:51

going to kind of let things
