1:50
NFL. It's big show
1:52
time. The big show. Okay,
1:57
so Greg, I don't remember which
1:59
of some of you. these guys I wanted to
2:01
ask you about as opposed
2:03
to some of the guys that are
2:06
just more or less guys that
2:08
you you you really liked in
2:11
the process for one reason you gave me a
2:13
list of guys Greg I'll let you describe the
2:15
list of guys that you gave me oh
2:20
now I'm trying to remember the list I keep you I
2:23
know I gave you
2:25
Cole Bishop I know I gave you March
2:27
on Neeland I
2:30
know I gave you Jevon Bullard I'm
2:32
giving you the names I'm asking like
2:34
how would you classify these guys why
2:37
why are these the names you gave me these
2:39
are these like day two guys you really like
2:41
well you know it's funny that
2:43
you ask me that because as a lot of people
2:45
know I don't necessarily think in terms of where guys
2:47
get drafted I don't know the answer to that I
2:49
mean I know the guys I gave you even
2:52
before the draft I knew they wouldn't necessarily
2:54
be first-round picks but when I watch these
2:56
players number one I always start with traits
2:58
and attributes and characteristics of the player but
3:01
then I think about how they can be
3:03
deployed in the NFL because ultimately that's what
3:05
teams are doing they're trying to figure
3:07
out how a player within the
3:09
context of their scheme because once
3:11
you start talking with coaches
3:13
about players they think in terms
3:15
of scheme adaptability scouts as you
3:17
know Ross think more in terms
3:19
of traits attributes analytics things of
3:22
that nature I'm not saying coaches
3:24
don't but coaches for the most
3:26
part think in terms of how
3:28
a player fits within their scheme because
3:30
coaches have a particular scheme and unless
3:32
a player is transcendent and obviously there's
3:34
very few of those guys and the
3:36
players I gave you are not transcendent
3:39
they have to think how does this guy
3:41
fit in what I do because
3:43
I'm not dramatically changing everything I
3:45
do particularly if I'm a veteran
3:48
coach so it comes down to
3:50
scheme adaptability for coaches let's
3:52
start though with the guy that I
3:54
don't know if I would say that he was a
3:57
surprise first-round
4:00
but it does feel like he
4:02
was an interesting first round pick
4:04
that's garnered a lot of discussion.
4:07
And that's not, this is not one of
4:09
Greg's guys, but it's Jordan
4:11
Morgan. He was the Packers first
4:14
round pick number 25 overall, the
4:16
offensive lineman out of Arizona, Greg.
4:19
What did you see from him? Yeah, he's an
4:22
interesting player, Ross, because look, you're an
4:24
offensive lineman. And
4:26
there is a strong belief among
4:28
many coaches that I've spoken to
4:30
that arm length or an offensive
4:32
lineman is important. And
4:35
there have been studies done by offensive
4:37
line coaches. Obviously they have staffs. I
4:39
just have me. So I don't do
4:41
these kinds of studies. But there's a
4:43
belief that arm length matters significantly. And
4:45
his arm length is below 33 inches.
4:48
So even though he played left
4:50
tackle at Arizona, and I thought his tape was
4:52
pretty good, and I would imagine they
4:55
drafted him to play left tackle, that would
4:57
be my thought. There'll
5:00
be a question as to whether he can do that
5:02
given that his arm length is less than 33 inches.
5:06
Now, I think that he's overall,
5:08
besides the arm length, he's got
5:10
very good size. He's a good
5:12
athlete. He's got light feet. He
5:14
showed good balance. He has
5:16
the lateral range, I think, to play left tackle.
5:20
It's just a question of will that
5:22
arm length end up being a concern,
5:24
because historically that has been a factor.
5:28
You know, Greg,
5:32
I do think it matters. I do.
5:35
And you're talking to a guy – I don't know if
5:37
we've talked about this in the show before. I
5:40
knew I had short arms, Greg. I
5:42
didn't know just how short. I
5:44
have sub-31-inch arms. And
5:48
I think it really puts you
5:51
in a bad spot in
5:53
one-on-one pass protection. You
5:55
know, it's like anything else, right?
5:57
I mean, there's a reason. for
6:00
boxers why
6:02
reach matters? Yes. Right?
6:05
Like they can punch you
6:07
at a distance where you can't punch them.
6:10
Well same thing for offensive linemen.
6:13
You can touch them, get your
6:15
hands on them at a
6:17
distance where they can't do it with you or
6:19
earlier than me. You know for me
6:22
to have sub 31 and another guy
6:24
to have 34
6:26
inch arms, you know that that 3 plus
6:28
inches that might not sound a lot like
6:30
a lot but at
6:32
that level everything is such
6:35
a like small increments
6:37
make a big difference. I agree with
6:39
you. It's like the difference you know
6:41
when they say like you're running back
6:44
lost a step he didn't lose a
6:46
step, the running back lost a fraction
6:49
of a second but that's the difference between
6:51
getting through the hole or not. No you're
6:53
right. That little bit can be the difference.
6:55
No I agree and like I said they've
6:57
done studies and particularly for tackles.
7:00
I'm not saying it doesn't matter for
7:02
guards or centers which is where you
7:04
predominantly play but for tackles for sure
7:06
because you want to be able to
7:08
strike. There's a lot of coaches that
7:10
believe in the independent arm technique where
7:12
you strike proactively with one arm and
7:14
if your arms are shorter that strike
7:16
doesn't have the same impact as if
7:18
your arms are longer. So it'll
7:20
be interesting. We know that
7:23
I mean I would think they drafted him to
7:25
get a shot at left tackle particularly since they
7:27
drafted him in the first round. To me this
7:29
is a wait and see situation. I'm not going
7:31
to sit here and say it can never work.
7:33
Maybe he's the exception. As
7:36
I said he has other traits that are very
7:38
positive for the left tackle position but we'll see
7:40
how it plays out. Another
7:43
first round pick that
7:46
was one of your guys was one of the
7:48
guys you sent me was taken
7:50
by the Arizona Cardinals and that's
7:52
defensive end Darius Robinson out of
7:54
Missouri. Yeah I really
7:56
liked him the more I watched him and
7:59
to me he was the guy you... needed to watch a lot
8:01
because he's so big. He's 6'5", he's 285, I believe
8:03
is what he was
8:05
at the combine. You
8:08
know, he's not an explosive athlete. I mean,
8:10
very few guys that big are explosive athletes.
8:12
It's funny, you talk about arm length. This
8:15
is 34 and a half. But
8:18
the point is, is he's just
8:20
a, he's a power player. He's
8:22
got tremendous length and mass throughout his
8:25
body. His game reflects those
8:27
attributes. He's got really strong
8:29
hands. He uses his arms
8:31
really well. Tremendous arm extension
8:34
to lock out offensive tackles and they
8:36
moved him inside as well. He's
8:39
a strength power generator.
8:41
That's his game. Now,
8:43
I'm not going to compare him exactly to Cam
8:46
Jordan when Cam Jordan came out of Cal, but
8:48
the measurables are almost exactly
8:51
the same. So can
8:53
he become that kind of player as he
8:55
grows and develops? We'll have to wait and
8:57
see. I think the belief when Cam Jordan
9:00
came out was that he was a little,
9:02
just a little quicker athlete. There may be
9:04
a better sort of pure pass rusher, but
9:06
I think there's more in Robinson to be
9:08
developed. And I, like I
9:10
said, you needed to keep watching him because he's
9:12
not the kind of guy where one player is
9:14
gonna go, wow, look at, look at that. But
9:17
the more you're watching him, you just realize how
9:19
physically dominant he can be. Yeah.
9:22
And I think a guy with that body
9:24
type, those are
9:26
not fun guys to go against. No,
9:28
at times, especially if
9:30
they can generate some speed to power
9:32
like that's funny. As you were describing
9:34
him, all I was thinking was
9:36
Cam Jordan, Cam Jordan, you know, let's get to
9:38
some other guys. A lot of these guys went
9:41
in the second round. And
9:43
I think it was you, but
9:46
there was other people in the
9:48
pre-draft process, Greg, that really liked
9:52
AD Mitchell, Adanai Mitchell, the
9:54
wide receiver from Texas
9:56
who ended up getting drafted by
9:58
the Colts at That
10:02
surprised me. He lasted 20 picks
10:04
into the second round. What did you see
10:07
from him? Any idea why maybe he lasted
10:09
that long? Maybe there's some
10:11
personality stuff, which I certainly don't know. So I
10:13
couldn't speak to that. I
10:15
will say that I spoke to one coach who's been in
10:18
the league for 30 years on the offensive
10:20
side of the ball. And he
10:22
had Mitchell as his third rated
10:24
wide receiver ahead of the doomsday.
10:26
So Mitchell has tremendous
10:29
talent. 6'2", 205, ran a 4'3",
10:31
4'4", I mean tremendous vertical
10:35
jump and broad jump. Really,
10:37
really good athlete. This guy could get in and
10:39
out of breaks. He showed the ability to sink
10:41
his hips and he
10:44
can run. I mean he can get over
10:46
the top. I finished watching him and I
10:48
thought to myself that he has the
10:50
traits and attributes to be a boundary x
10:53
receiver, meaning the single receiver to the short
10:55
side of the field that gets a lot
10:57
of man-to-man coverage and it would have to
10:59
win one-on-one. And I thought
11:01
that this guy, again, I
11:03
don't know the kid, so maybe there's
11:05
factors there. But just based on tape
11:07
Ross, I thought he had
11:09
the traits and attributes to develop into a
11:11
top 10 receiver in the league as his
11:14
career developed. I don't want people to think
11:16
I mean he would be that from day
11:18
one, but I think he has the traits
11:20
to be that kind of receiver. Interesting.
11:23
I can't remember if he's the
11:25
guy that Chris Ballard went
11:28
off on because there was people
11:30
talking about stuff off the field with him or
11:32
not. I need to look that up because
11:35
there was somebody that Chris Ballard really
11:38
got fired up about when he was asked
11:40
about it. I get fired up in a
11:42
different way, Greg, when I drink
11:44
Lebat Blue Light. It is so good.
11:46
Big fan of drinking Lebat Blue Lights
11:48
with my friends and family living life
11:50
to the power of we. Always enjoy
11:53
responsibly. Beer, Lebat USA,
11:55
Buffalo, New York. Okay,
11:58
some other guys we can get to. a
12:00
couple of safeties, Greg. It's like
12:02
we don't talk about safeties that
12:04
much. Jevon Bullard from Georgia, Cole
12:06
Bishop from Utah. Yeah.
12:08
Let's start with Cole Bishop. Cole Bishop, again,
12:11
he was probably in terms of, you know, when
12:14
I say guys, one of my favorite guys, I
12:16
think a lot of people think it's a personal
12:18
thing. It's just a tape thing. Um, I
12:20
watched him last summer, 2022 from his 2022 tape. Um,
12:25
I watched him, uh, of course this year, it's his
12:27
2023 tape. Um,
12:30
I think, I thought he was
12:32
one of the best safety prospects
12:35
in the class. Size, movement, versatility,
12:37
competitive, savvy, intelligence. I
12:39
thought he could play back in. I thought he could
12:41
play in the box. I thought he
12:43
could match up to tight ends. Um, I
12:45
think he has enough movement that he could
12:47
be a cover one or a cover three
12:49
post safety. Um, I
12:52
just really thought he was a complete
12:54
safety and it didn't surprise me that
12:56
the bills drafted him because what did
12:58
the bills ask of their safeties? What
13:00
have we seen them do with Micah
13:02
Hyde and Jordan Poyer, the last number
13:04
of years Ross, they, those guys are
13:06
interchangeable within the context of his Sean
13:08
McDermott defense and Cole Bishop fits that
13:10
he's an interchangeable player who can play
13:12
in the box. He can be an
13:14
overhang player. He can match up to
13:16
the tight end. He can play on
13:18
the back end. He sort of
13:20
fits clearly while we see the safety
13:22
profile be for the Buffalo bills. Love
13:26
it. Um, I also,
13:28
it's funny when you talk about Darius
13:31
Robinson, it makes me think a
13:34
little bit Greg about
13:36
Marshawn Meeland, not, not, not exactly
13:38
the same, but I did a
13:40
couple of Western Michigan games and
13:42
just in terms of being a power
13:44
player. That's kind of what I think of from Marshawn.
13:47
That's what he is. I mean, uh, and
13:49
maybe people don't realize that this guy is close to 270
13:51
pounds too. Um,
13:53
he plays a strong man's game. As you know,
13:56
Ross, since you mentioned, you did a couple of
13:58
games. He's got powerful, heavy hands. He
14:00
can shock both offensive tackles and tight ends
14:02
in the run game. He
14:04
showed forceful speed to power Conversion as
14:06
an edge pass rusher quite frankly I
14:08
thought why after I finished watching him
14:10
and I did him later in the
14:12
process I thought he and
14:15
Jared verse were the most explosive speed
14:17
to power conversion Players of any pass
14:19
rushers in this draft and the other
14:21
thing that I really liked about Neelan
14:23
which again now you think about His
14:26
transition and projection to the league is
14:28
they moved him around a lot.
14:30
He stood up a lot You know, he
14:32
was kind of a joker He was not just
14:34
a pure edge player and now you go
14:36
to the Cowboys and they have Parsons
14:39
who obviously does the same thing
14:41
and again, I'm not comparing the players So
14:44
I hope people don't think that's what I
14:46
mean But now you've got two players that
14:48
can move around and you can try to
14:50
create one-on-one Matchups based on where you can
14:52
line them up But I was
14:54
surprised how much Neelan stood up as kind
14:56
of a joker in the middle of the
14:58
defense and they tried to get Him matched
15:00
up on centers and guards as well as
15:02
lining him up outside where he could rush
15:04
the quarterback against tackles Greg
15:07
what about a guy? I don't think we
15:09
did talk about in the pre draft process
15:11
at all and I'm curious
15:13
about him Obviously because I'll be doing the Eagles
15:15
preseason games and they took him in the third
15:17
round And I need to know
15:19
more about his backstory I had to figure out how
15:22
a guy gets from Cornell as a
15:24
safety to Houston Christian as an
15:26
as a defensive end But it's Jaylick's hunt. Did
15:28
you get chance to watch Jaylick's hunt? I did
15:30
and I thought he was one of the most
15:32
fascinating prospects in the draft. I mean he's 6-4
15:34
252 Incredibly
15:37
good athlete. I mean, you know Again,
15:41
cuz he played at Houston Christian, you know
15:43
In fact, I had a conversation with our
15:45
good friend Fran Duffy and I said I
15:47
wonder where he would have been drafted if
15:49
he did the exact same thing in the
15:51
SEC and Fran said well that would
15:53
probably lead to a different conversation But
15:55
The point is is the traits are the
15:57
same now granted. He Obviously didn't play against
15:59
the. Highest level of competition that
16:01
this guy is a long as
16:03
a let it edge defender. He's
16:06
got emerging pass rush traits. It'll
16:08
probably take a little time or
16:10
they're They're probably more in their
16:12
infancy than all they are aren't
16:14
So he's got a smaller toolbox
16:16
right now. But you talk about
16:18
lanes. natural athleticism, explosiveness. Those things
16:21
are high level on. And
16:23
you know he definitely can bend. Ah, he
16:25
can flatten is rush past. There's so much
16:27
you there to work with that I was
16:30
again I knew nothing about I saw at
16:32
the combine I wish he were ourselves I
16:34
knew the name of and he actually had
16:36
a nice combined spots. Are you
16:39
know when I put on his tape and
16:41
again the competition levels difference? But boy you
16:43
just see the physical traits. They jumped out.
16:46
Love. It I mentioned Javan
16:49
Bullard earlier. From. Georgia. He
16:51
was one of your guys as well. Gray.
16:53
Yeah. Love to learn Bullard on. It's
16:56
a vandal or to me was maybe
16:58
not quite as as good but somewhat
17:00
similar in many ways to Brian branch
17:03
of Alabama from a year. Two.
17:05
Years ago, Twenty Twenty Two Bullard was
17:08
the slot corner. For. And Georgia
17:10
this year he was a safety and
17:12
I think this guy just. Besides.
17:14
The obvious versatility simply because of the
17:17
change of position. This. Guy
17:19
just understands how play. He's not
17:21
the best astley decide branch wasn't
17:23
is the best athletes although I
17:25
think Bullard ran better or that
17:27
people probably thought or that he
17:29
would run his other athletic testing
17:31
measurable who are by no means
17:33
off the charts and. But. This
17:36
guy is is. He.
17:38
He's not twitchy, he's not
17:40
sudden. You wouldn't say he's
17:42
got super loose hips and
17:45
but this guy is a
17:47
smart savvy player. You could
17:49
see the higher level football
17:51
intelligence grade recognition instincts. sees
17:53
the game incredibly well on.
17:56
And you know he can play in the
17:58
slot this year. They matched him
18:00
up even though he was a safety. When
18:03
they played Missouri, they matched him up to
18:05
lose. their burdens. Who's probably going to be
18:07
a top ten are tucked. It didn't pick
18:09
next year in the twenty twenty five draft
18:11
and so you know he can do that.
18:14
So I just really liked the where he
18:16
played. He saw the game really really well.
18:19
Some. You guys gamey! Greg,
18:21
Renardo Green, Kate and
18:23
Wallace. Who. I know a lot
18:26
about from Penn State Dj Delays, Modi
18:28
Washington where it hit up one of
18:30
those other guys have and Cade Wallace's
18:33
up my rhythm. Tell. Me about
18:35
one another. Galaxy or not everyone.
18:37
somebody I would love to mention
18:39
because Bernardo Green was a guy
18:41
that I've watched for two years
18:43
and he came from Florida State
18:45
which is a man heavy defensive
18:47
teams a lot of press so
18:49
he as a ton of it's
18:51
experience playing pressed both mirror match
18:53
and targeted physicality and this guy
18:55
is. I mean he is a
18:57
physical tough hard nosed player and
18:59
you know we kind of reminded
19:01
me watching his tape of what
19:03
luxurious need. Has become in the loop.
19:05
And don't forget the Jerry's need was
19:08
a fourth round pick and a Louisiana
19:10
Tech so it's what's neat. Has become
19:12
in the lead and other see those
19:14
who follow the lead know he's he's
19:17
now with the Tennessee Titans but Green
19:19
is a physical tough player brings a
19:21
swagger and I just really liked the
19:23
we played. Obviously the Niners are looking
19:25
for us more corners and and I
19:28
think he's I really liked watching his
19:30
tape. Love. It I
19:32
like talking with you every single week.
19:34
Greg really really appreciate. Glad we got
19:36
to dive into a few more your
19:39
guys next week! We're. Going to
19:41
start a preview division by division. Just
19:43
go over some of these teams what
19:45
we're expecting from them. Obviously a lot
19:47
of additions in new coaches should be
19:49
fine. Thank you so much as always
19:51
Thanks! I appreciate it. Gosh, i
19:53
love greg so good i love just
19:56
a passion he has when he talks
19:58
about certain players stats can like passion
20:00
I have for my front
20:02
page story.com. I forgot to mention this
20:04
earlier in the show, maybe I did.
20:06
At any rate, reminder Mother's

20:20
My front page story.com. That
20:23
simple. All
20:28
right Ross, well biggest news from the weekend,
20:30
the Dolphins, they bring in wide receiver Odell
20:32
Beckham Jr. Yeah,
20:34
it's kind of funny to me that that's the
20:36
biggest news. I mean, you know what, I'm gonna make
20:39
that, Jack, my meaty Monday for the
20:42
week. It's presented by goodranchers.com.

20:58
Odell Beckham Jr. is
21:00
like an incredible case
21:02
study in the power of
21:04
getting off to a really fast start
21:07
or to becoming really popular on
21:10
social media. Like it is
21:12
insane that he got 15 million
21:15
dollars fully guaranteed last year. It's wild
21:18
that he signs with the Dolphins and
21:20
it's still big news that everybody's posting
21:22
about. Do you realize it's been since
21:25
2016 since he had 1,100 yards in
21:29
the season or caught
21:31
80 passes or had
21:34
more than six touchdown catches? That's
21:36
a long, that's like when Drake May and
21:38
Caleb Williams were like 14 years old. It's
21:41
been a long time and
21:43
yet people still, Odell Beckham Jr. signed
21:46
with the Ravens and Lamar last year.
21:48
Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Dolphins.
21:50
Like when's the last time it's actually
21:53
mattered or meant anything who
21:55
Odell Beckham Jr. signed with? Alongside
21:58
Drake May and Caleb Williams, I also Was about fourteen,
22:01
fifteen years old. Some other after moves
22:03
his speech crickets I think occurred. Zoe
22:05
Sly Bills I linebacker Dion Jones as
22:07
well. That's Alive and Dwayne Smooth and
22:09
wide receiver Taste Claypool nother wide receiver
22:11
Dj Charki Go to the Alley Chargers.
22:15
Search. The ones mood I believe not
22:17
doing Smu but that's a tough one.
22:20
You know, You. Must forget Sir
22:23
and guys The and Jones was so good
22:25
for a while there. And a
22:27
kind of feels like he just fell off.
22:30
You. Know the Bills. This is
22:32
called supplementing your roster post
22:34
draft. These guys don't count
22:36
as compensatory picks against a
22:38
commensurate picked formula. And also,
22:41
they just. They. Want
22:43
to make sure they've got depth at
22:45
certain spots? But. Like a guy
22:47
like Chase Claypool. Man. He got
22:49
off to a fast start. And.
22:52
Now. Is just like a journeyman. Just.
22:54
Bouncing around he could get caught. Be
22:57
a little league it is. It's amazing
22:59
how fast Savage and I feel a
23:01
Dj chart. Signed. A one
23:03
year deal up to some out
23:05
with a different team. Each year
23:07
we will see whether or not.
23:10
He. Has any impact. I will say this. Feel.
23:12
The there's opportunity with the Chargers family
23:14
feels like there is. He. Better
23:16
we better better be ready to block. Was
23:19
that Adam Silver? The. Adam
23:21
Silver meme Learn how to block
23:23
body Dj charge of Gotham because
23:25
the Chargers want to run the
23:27
football but there is our project.
23:29
Me this opportunity a starting receiver
23:31
for the Chargers. It.
23:33
Said he fifth year option deadline was Thursday
23:35
and most notable decision from that was the
23:37
Steelers. They declined to pick up the option
23:40
of running back. now see Harris. You
23:42
know it's interesting. I mean, With
23:45
rare exception I would say. That.
23:49
If your team doesn't pick up your
23:51
fifth year option. It was a
23:53
bad pick. And. I think even with
23:55
Naji Harris you could say their butts Zach
23:57
rules and Trey last just and fields mack.
24:00
The on the even cow and
24:02
same and Davis that's a couple
24:04
off the ball linebackers by the
24:06
way they were taken top twenty
24:08
not good. Good areas. Tony Kale
24:10
of Farley Najera Page Turner Eric
24:12
Stokes Joe try on Soyinka. Out.
24:14
Another word and reshot Bateman not
24:17
even eligible for the figure options.
24:19
Not a good Ximena chairs been
24:22
a fine pick, but. It.
24:24
Still says a lot about a lot. maybe a
24:26
lot of the running back position that the Steelers
24:28
did not Do Not pick that up. An.
24:31
Nfl General counsel Just pass he's
24:33
retiring after forty years. Do know
24:35
that name and will just. Do.
24:38
Not. To. So interesting.
24:40
So. He's. Probably
24:42
one of the. Ten.
24:45
Most influential figures. In.
24:48
The Nfl. Over the last.
24:51
Thirty. Years. And. Terms
24:53

24:56
Usually behind the scenes. You.
24:59
Know in the negotiations, in
25:01

25:04
Celibacy. Syria, Nfl replace them
