Coeliac patients have an immune intolerance to gluten – something the body should tolerate is treated as a threat. The aim of Dr Tye-Din’s PhD research was to define all of the toxic peptides in wheat, rye, barley and oats find the most important ones that could be used in a therapeutic vaccine to retrain a patient’s immune system to tolerate gluten.
