Russell Trent (Asylum Confidential, Waska Records, EMBY Records, Friction Free, Sea of Sand, Perfect Driver, Electric Dangerous Records, Dub Forest, HAWAII):

Music runs deep in the veins of this Hawai‘i native. Growing up in the islands Trent comes from a well-known family with a rich history performing Hawaiian music. Engulfed by the nightlife in the early days of his career, Russell emerged as a DJ mixing everything from hip hop to house, quickly rising to make a lasting imprint on Honolulu’s club scene. A decade later, Trent has emerged as an influential force in the global underground music scene, with a residency at Honolulu-based Asylum Afterhours, ranked among DJ Mag’s top 100 clubs in the world for four years. Focusing mainly on dance music, Russell continues to forge ahead with a diverse array of sounds incorporating all types of 4x4 with his main focus on bass.Trent has played alongside some of the industry’s best, some include; Chris Micali, Superstar DJ Keoki, Morgan, Terry Mullen, Halo, Bad Boy Bill, Rabbit in the moon, Bassbin Twins, Miguel Migs, Dj Fame, David Harness, Corey Baker, Sugiurumn, Heartthrob, Alland Byallo, Maya Jane Coles, Butane, Tanner Ross, Adultnapper, Paul Woolford, Space Dimension Controller, John Tejada, AC Slater, Destructo, L.A. Riots, Amtrac, Christian Martin, Justin Martin, Ardalan, Eddie Richards, J.Phlip, Dj Dan, Clint Stewart, Randall Jones, Endo, and Dubfire.Trent started the year off strong in 2012 beginning with a March feature in DJ Mag alongside some of his fellow Asylum Afterhours residents. That year he also released some original production work on Waska Records. His track Conscious Mind charted No. 1 for a month on the labels Beatport page, only to be followed up by another No. 1 hit, Amen, a collaboration with fellow resident Fathom Kanekoa. Trent continued producing into 2013, and ended that year on a high note with his track Get Down receiving radio play from legendary DJ John Digweed on his Transitions podcast.2015 saw the release of “Island Vibes,” Trent’s long-awaited 5-track EP. The highlight of the EP is its title track Island Vibes, a cool piece of house music that offers a breezy daytime feel. Trent couples’ warm beats with muted keys and delicate piano lines that lend themselves to the track’s distinct island sound, bringing a warm Hawaiian feel to your ears. A prolific producer, Trent’s work and creativity span genres and is as infectious as his fun loving personality. Like his famous beach boy grandfather Buzzy Trent, known locally in Hawai‘i for his surfing prowess and love of teaching, Trent tirelessly shares his passion for music delivering a rich panoply of diverse sounds to a fast growing following of music lovers. With more upcoming releases on the decks, the future looks bright for this rising star.
