LOST GIRLS: AN UNSOLVED AMERICAN MYSTERY, Robert Kolker’s fascinating book about the five women whose bodies were found on the same long island beach, all believed to have died at the hands at the most skillful and accomplished NY serial killer since “Son of Sam”, available in paperback on May 6th.  Shannan, Maureen, Megan, Melissa, and Amber were all petite women in their twenties and all five were prostitutes who advertised on Craigslist. They also all came from a slice of America ignored by politicians and media: parts of the country hit hard by a poor economy, where limited opportunities force people to make hard choices.  Including new information about the man at the center of the case as well as extensive interviews with the victims’ families, LOST GIRLS does more than just shed new light on this still-unsolved mystery. It brings into focus the stories of these young women-- their lives and the circumstances that ultimately led to their deaths.
