Today we talk briefly about water purification.
Long story short, you need 2 quarts a day per person for consumption. Tag on double that for hygene and post disaster water balloons fights you might want to partake in.
Best option, keep a supply of water on site. Those fat cats in Washington want you to keep at least three days worth for yourself, which is really pretty easy. I would suggest keeping an amount greater on hand, take that centralized government!
Large 5 gallon jugs of water or 224 packs of water bottles are good options.
You can package your own water, but be aware of a few things when doing so:
Use food safe containers
Sterilize all containers after each use (1 tablespoon of household bleach to a gallon does the trick)
Water needs to be boiled for at least 1 minute to kill most of the nasties in it.
Use water within 6 months
Remember, any commercially package beverage is "purified" and consider potable. Hello, Diet Coke!
