In this section of Mark's gospel, Jesus reminds us that as cruciform people the only authority in our lives is God. The religious people in mark's gospel bristle at this, just as we might be bristling at the recent impositions of government upon our lives. In the end, God has got us all in the palm of the divine hand, and this time of isolation is for the sake of the world.
