Welcome to your audiobook for January 2024. This month, the book club has voted to read Agatha Christie’s The Man in the Brown Suit to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its publication, and in similar fashion the story I am reading to you is G.K. Chesterton’s “The Oracle of the Dog,” first published in Nash's Magazine in December 1923.

The mystery involves the murder of the wealthy Colonel Druce in his garden. The conundrum is that the murdered man was apparently being watched by multiple people at the time of his death, yet nobody saw him being killed. The most important witness to the crime, however, is the dog.

If you enjoy this story, then I recommend you have a listen, or re-listen, to The Detective’s Best Friend episode, which discusses the relationship between dogs and crime fiction. You might also be interested to revisit a previous audiobook, "The Adventure of the Creeping Man" by Arthur Conan Doyle.

After listening, if you'd like to discuss these stories with other members or make suggestions for me to record in the future, head over to the audiobook club area of the forum to do that.
