A positive step in the right direction. It’s hard to understand that food is integral to cultural identity and its misrepresentation is very common in America. These two people are really cute and sweet to each other and try their best. But almost every podcast they fail to adopt a cultural lens in their discussion, even though they’ve lived overseas for the past 3 years. Goes to show travelling doesn’t open everyone’s mind. But it is genuinely interesting seeing the world through American eyes. It is an entertaining podcast. Some points I’ve thought about: - grocery comparison: not valuing that whole foods is cheaper than processed foods / imported goods. wouldn’t you rather cereal be expensive compared to fresh fruit?- bizarre foods: expecting fast food to be good in south east Asia, who looks for pizza in thailand??- American ignorance, calling native Americans as “Indians”???? That’s insane- Senagalese coffee: even just describing the ingredients in coffee “weird”, just accept that your norm is not others norm- 20 life lessons: The comment about no accents in Denmark (because they have an American accent) and comments about Canadian accent, as if there is a lack of understanding that Americans (USA) have accents themselves... It’s ironic considering there’s an episode about “Americans viewing the world”.
