Get Ready for the HuntThis podcast starts off real strong and keeps on going. I'm a very big fan of the cold openings that set the stage for the hunts and the music added throughout the show help ampllify the impact of important scenes so much more. The players all do a fantastic job keeping in character and you can feel there is good chemistry with how they are all working together pretty quickly. The DM does a great job stepping you into the scenes and you never feel lost as more and more information is coming your way about the big baddie of the week and the different places of this small town of Gullacochica. Another thing I really like about this podcast is that they walk you through the rules of Monster of the Week. I feel like if you're interested in playing or running Monster of the Week, this podcast would be a fantastic one to listen to so you can get a feeling for it. Great audio quality and editing that keeps the pacing moving at a great speed. Keep up the great work, can't wait to hear more!
Shrimp and Crits is an absolute gem. The pacing, production value, worldbuilding, and chemistry of the group are all outstanding. The Keeper (GM) Ian does a tremendous job keeping the group on their toes with unique monsters and intriguing mysteries. Mysterious Agent of FAE Ari Green, heart of gold gatorman Ray Ray Lareaux, and painfully earnest deputy Sarah Payne are all immensely fun and multi-dimensional characters that you can't help but root for. Their monster hunting hijinks are hilarious, captivating, and just the right amount of spooky. If you enjoy Monster of the Week, actual play shows, or just good storytelling - you simply must give Shrimp & Crits a listen!
This show is soooooo easy to binge! It’s quite honestly one of the best monster of the week podcasts out there and we strongly recommend checking them out! The characters are incredible fun and the Keeper does an amazing job painting a wonderful story!
This podcast is clean, well edited, and atmospheric. The stories are interesting and a laugh a minute while still hitting strides of emotional depth. I seriously can't get enough of this show. The cast is also very friendly to fans, not that that's relevant.
One of the best Monster of the Week podcasts out there, Shrimp and Crits is one of my favorites. This show is electrifying from the start with fun, campy mysteries, loveable (and unloveable) npcs, and a hilarious, charismatic cast led by the ridiculously creative Keeper Ian (who also does top notch editing and music composition for his own show)! Each of the central characters has an interesting, dynamic backstory, and as the story has progressed they only continue to grow and change in exciting ways along with Ian's expert narrative. Beyond just their amazing show, the S&C crew is incredibly active within the ttrpg actual play podcast community, and I think as a result have cultivated a fanbase that is one of the most fun and positive in the community as a whole. These are great people that make a great show, so make sure you give them a listen! And I dare you not to sing along when their theme starts to play.
Great setting (Gullacochica really feels like a real place), great characters (both players and NPCs), great music. Not so much Southern Gothic as Southern Gonzo, Shrimp and Crits is a voyage through swamp monsters, Fae incursions and conspiracy theorists. Highly recommended.
Shrimp and Crits honestly has to be one of my favorite podcasts, the humor and storytelling is so so great and enjoyable to listen to. I cannot recommend it enough if you love a mix of fun, great characters and fantastic pcs! Season 1 is great, it has a really good mix of like whimsical nonsense but also some really cool spooky stuff. I have already listened to it twice and gotten my partner to fully listen to it, its honestly amazing. The current mini series Whimsy World is also just really good and overall a lot of fun. Cannot recommend this show enough 1000/10 : ]
Not your average actual play! The tone and setting really make Shrimp and Crits stand out. Every episode is a fun ride with engaging characters and enjoyable plots.
S&C has fast become my current favorite actual play podcast. Binge your way through to catch up with this amazing crew playing Monster of the Week! Characters and NPCs alike are fun and lovable, villains are delightfully wicked, and the whole thing is often hilarious. The gaming efforts are supported in the podcast by quality audio, good editing, and wonderful original music.
Not a real big actual play fan, but with quality production like this and a being a more story focused show, I can't help but recommend this show. Just wish I had gotten to it sooner. But hey better late then never, but yes you should be listening to this!
Shrimp and Crits is proof that a story lives and dies by its cast of characters, and let me tell you this show is *alive*! Few shows present such a vibrant and loveable cast that grow on you more and more with each passing episode. The whole crew's dynamic at the table is just as enjoyable, and experiencing the story alongside them as it emerges is a joy and a privilege. There are a lot of Monster of the Week stories out there, but none quite like this one. Dang!
AP carries the torch of old school radio dramas. This particular one is great fun, with well realized characters and tight editing. Check it out if you like monster stories or want a good Actual Play podcast to sink your teeth into.
One of my favorite Monster of the Week actual play podcasts!
One of the best actual play podcasts I've found, second only to Pretending to be People. Great group dynamic and extremely clean editing to have the story flow while leaving in a good amount of side jokes. Can't recommend this podcast enough.
The cast of Shrimps and Crits is really something special. The music, the character tics, they all blend together into a narrative orchestra that just makes it a joy to listen to as these 3 knuckleheads survive the growing threats that have come to town.
One of the best podcasts I have listened too. The keeper and the crew tell such a fascinating story, with laughs and really heartfelt moments.
this show was recommended to me on discord when one of the cast members joined a server i'm in. it's endlessly hilarious, with a brilliant cast and talented GM. if you're interested in learning about the MotW system this is a great show - the players are all new to the system so many of the rules and mechanics are much discussed.
There are very few independently produced podcasts that manage to capture your attention as quickly and consistently as Shrimp and Crits. This team is all hands on deck to bring you quality storytelling in an interesting world, with enough comedy to grease the wheels. Every episode is a dynamo, and the world they live in continues to get richer as they go. This show has at least 5 more seasons and a movie to go.My one complaint is that the Shrimp and Grits recipe they posted to their website features instant grits. I think anything worth having is worth waiting for (like their next episode). On the other hand, if you're going to monster hunters for a shrimp and grits recipe, what kind of monster are you? On the THIRD hand (which we can do because: monsters), listening to 50 or so hours of well wrought Monster of the Week real play is probably quicker than reading a cooking blog, and the use of instant grits is a merciful recognition that you're hungry and have other things to do.I like pointlessly long reviews. I give this review 3 stars at most, because it captures my enthusiasm for Shrimp and Crits, but it gets a little self indulgent after a while, and nobody has time for that... y'all oughtta be cookin' grits or somethin'.Thanks, Shrimp and Crits!

The story and world building is interesting, but there is a lot of time spent laughing at nothing or for no real reason, sometimes for long enough that I've lost the plot. Same with comments that become really unclear if it's just the player snarking, or if it's actually supposed to be the character, which kind of breaks the suspension of disbelief for me.
