Welcome everyone to the Sports Illustrated Media

0:11

podcast. I am your host, Jimmy tryin To. Thanks

0:13

so much for tuning in. This

0:16

week's show features two interviews.

0:18

First up, w W Universal Champion

0:20

Seth Rollins. It is a must

0:23

listen if you're a wrestling fan. Seth

0:26

was extremely passionate about

0:29

the state of the w w E and the constant

0:31

sort of shots and complaints

0:34

about the w w E and UH he unloaded.

0:36

He also talked a lot about his relationship with

0:38

Becky Lynch. So if you're a wrestling fan, I

0:41

guarantee you you will enjoy the Seth Rollins

0:44

interview. After that, Jason Barrett will

0:46

join us. Jason runs

0:48

UH Sports Barrett Sports Media, and

0:51

he recently asked thirty UH

0:53

sports media reporters, writers,

0:55

opinionsts, whatever you want to call them, including

0:58

myself, to sort of do a draft on the

1:00

best sports TV studio shows

1:02

of all time, and we talk about

1:04

that and get into the

1:07

legendary sports studio shows

1:09

that have aired. So that's

1:12

this week's episode. Last week, Scott van Pelt was

1:14

on. He was phenomenal, So if you haven't

1:17

listened yet, you can dig into the archives and

1:19

check that out. And please, uh,

1:21

if you're listening for Scott van Pelt, if you're listening for

1:23

Seth Rollins, just subscribe. If

1:25

you can rate and review helps tremendously

1:28

and I appreciate it. No more time

1:30

will be wasted. You're gonna want to hear

1:32

this again if you're a wrestling fan. Here's

1:34

Seth Rollins from the w w E. Alright,

1:38

very excited to speak to this

1:40

week's guest, the Universal w

1:42

w E Champion Seth Rollins.

1:45

He's been on before. Always a fun conversation.

1:47

Glad he's back, Seth. How you doing doing

1:50

great? Brother? How are you? I'm good, I'm

1:52

good and uh, this is sort of good timing

1:54

for me. I always like it when one of my guests

1:57

is sort of having an active

1:59

time on social media and and in

2:01

their profession. We're taping

2:03

this Monday, a little bit before raw. You've been

2:06

feisty on Twitter today with some

2:08

of the fans, which was amusing. Saw you.

2:10

You even busted out a dork, which was give

2:13

me a chuckle. You don't that words not used that much anymore,

2:15

so that was a good usage. Um.

2:18

Seems like there's been some backlash against the w

2:20

W recently. And you uh took up

2:22

for the company on Twitter. What

2:25

what was the motivation behind that? Oh?

2:28

I mean you can only sit back and

2:30

um, you know, read people, you

2:33

know, fashion something you love

2:35

for so long and sit there and take

2:37

it and try to you know, take the high roads,

2:39

so to speak. Um.

2:41

And so you know, I'm real proud of what

2:44

I do every single week. And that's

2:46

just Mondays, but every single Friday, Saturday,

2:48

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,

2:50

Thursday. Really I'm real proud of what I

2:53

do and what our crew does in the effort they put forward.

2:55

I'm not talking about just the wrestlers, the guys and girls

2:58

who you see out in the rain, but I'm talking about everybody, a creative

3:00

all the way after minta fan. You know, we put it a

3:03

ton of effort into making a product

3:05

that I think is is pretty darn good considering

3:07

the amount of content we put out there and

3:10

the fact that people want to sit on the little

3:12

soap boxes and a little stupid social

3:14

media machines and talk down about it. Uh.

3:17

Really just speaks volumes about kind of

3:19

the generation, uh and where

3:21

they're at it. So I figured, you

3:24

know, if somebody's gonna fight back. It might as well be me

3:26

since I am the champ and I consider myself

3:28

the top time or company. Well,

3:31

so yeah, I have to say as a you

3:34

know, I come at this from sort of the

3:36

media angle of it, and then as the w

3:38

w E fan of it. It does seem like it's

3:40

sort of been like this perfect storm where, um,

3:43

you know, some competition is cropped cropped

3:45

up with a W and then you

3:47

had some people leaving bashing the w w E,

3:50

and you know, maybe the ratings were not

3:52

as good as they once were. Um, and it did

3:54

seem like this was all sort of building

3:56

up. So I wasn't completely shocked by

3:59

your tweet today defending the company.

4:02

Um was it awkward for you though? I mean,

4:04

you're really good friends with Dean Ambrose. He left

4:07

and then he did this interview with Jericho where

4:09

he said a lot of negative things about

4:11

the w w E. I'd imagine that puts

4:13

you in a awkward position.

4:18

Uh. Yeah, So I think I gathered a question You're you're

4:20

a little faint on the phone, but I think

4:22

I gathered the question U and referenced

4:24

Ambrose in his in his podcast with Jericho, Love

4:27

Ambrose can do what he wants. He's a big boy, he's got

4:29

a big boy pants and he can go out there and say whatever

4:31

you want. But the bottom line is,

4:33

not everybody's equipped to handle the riggers

4:36

of the w W E and the schedule and how it

4:38

affects you meant to lean emotionally, and

4:40

uh Ambrose gave everything he had to the

4:42

company for the entire time here.

4:45

He put his heart soul into the travel, into the schedule,

4:47

into the injuries and too you know, the

4:50

work in the ring and all that stuff.

4:52

But at the end the day, he took his ball and he went home

4:54

very when elsewhere at least, you know, And

4:57

I think it's a little uh presumptus

4:59

of him picking on a podcast and talk down

5:01

about the company that you know, gave him, uh

5:04

such opportunities. Um and he

5:06

referenced some of those he did talk about, you know, how

5:08

he's thankful for the time he spent here and the fact

5:10

that he's able to learn, meet his wife and all that good

5:13

stuff. And like I said, I love the guy. I love

5:15

him, I'll always love him. But at the end of the day,

5:17

we just shared differing perspectives

5:20

about what we want out of life. And

5:23

where we're at in our own lives, and so, you

5:25

know, I hope that he does well. I've I've kept enough

5:27

that on it know to be doing uh super

5:30

well for himself right now, and I'm happy for that.

5:32

But you know, I just don't think there's any reason to again

5:34

pop on a soapbox complain after the fact.

5:37

You know, you need to take the first step, and that's looking in the

5:39

mirror and asking yourself, did you do every single

5:42

thing you possibly could to

5:44

make yourself in your situation what you

5:46

wanted to be? And if the answer is yes,

5:48

you did, and you can go elsewhere and complain,

5:51

feel good about that. And if that's where he's un mentally,

5:53

then go right ahead. If he hadn't done that, he had spoken

5:56

the mirror and made that decision, and maybe he should

5:58

think about that. And that's that it goes for any

6:00

other disgruntled talents past or prey.

6:03

Have you had a conversation

6:05

with him about those comments that he made? No,

6:09

no, And I don't need to, Like I said, he's a grown man.

6:11

He's got his big boy pants on. He can do whatever

6:13

he wants to do, he can say whatever he wants to say, he's built

6:15

his contractual obligations here uh,

6:17

and there's nothing but mutual love and respectory

6:20

and he's one of my favorite people in the entire world.

6:23

For anyone out there listening, in case you've

6:25

been under rock and you missed, it's I've tweeted

6:27

a couple over the past couple blaze ww

6:29

best pro wrestling on the planet period, doubling

6:32

down, best pro wrestling on the planet. See that cruiser

6:34

right title triple threat. And that's just one night, one match

6:36

amongst the many. Find anyone else alife who does

6:39

what I do as well as I do it, as often

6:41

as I do it. You can't and Um

6:44

today, responding to a fan,

6:47

let me dial it up. I sat back and watch idiots

6:49

with no clue talk poorly about the place

6:51

I dedicate my life to every hour of every day.

6:53

The level of perform on concert is untouchable. Time

6:55

to let him know is um,

6:58

do you feel like you're speaking because you have the

7:00

universal champion and veteran

7:02

of the locker room, one of the most

7:04

popular guys in the company. Do you feel like you're

7:06

also doing this sort of for all the other talent

7:09

and you know, rallying the troops

7:11

or is this strictly a seth Rollins thing.

7:15

Ye know what, Um,

7:17

I hope that I speak for the other talent. And you

7:19

know, I've got a lot of friends in the locker room

7:22

who you know, we've had conversations like

7:24

this before, and I feel like,

7:26

I hope that I'm speaking up and you know,

7:28

you have a couple of guys who um

7:30

talk to me about it. And you know I had, you know,

7:33

Roman Rags hit me with a heart retweeting

7:35

an exclamation point the other night as well, and

7:37

and I just feel like, yeah, man, you know it's

7:39

it's uh, it's time to stop

7:42

just like taking them in the gut, you know, like to

7:44

hell with it. If people want to talk, because then

7:46

let them talk, but you know it's time to fire

7:48

back. Like I'm just sick of sick

7:50

of it. And so yeah, I hope that it is a rallying

7:53

cry and I hope that it is something that the rest

7:55

of our talent fields that they can speak

7:57

out about and that if they if they feel the same

7:59

way, that they don't have to you know, take

8:01

this quote unquote highroad all the time, or

8:03

if they don't, if they just want to let me be their voice.

8:05

I'm fine with that too, because, like I said, I

8:07

just I really sat back. I've seen it all, I've

8:09

listened to it all. And look, I'm

8:11

a thinker, man, I think about stuff. So I

8:13

put this stuff in my brain. I run through

8:16

it. I wonder maybe a lot of touch.

8:18

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right. I don't know. But

8:20

at the end of the day, like after

8:22

a while, it's not frustration blowing over.

8:24

These are the conclusions that I've come to, you

8:26

know, after watching what I've seen from other

8:28

companies and other people and what they say and what they

8:31

do. There's just nobody on the planet

8:33

and entertainment that does what we do. It's just they

8:35

just they don't do it. So you can talk about

8:38

these other guys and these other promotions who

8:40

think that they are the best in the world or they

8:42

offer the superior product or whatever, but

8:44

they do not run five hundred

8:47

live events a year. Hive

8:49

hundred plus live events a

8:51

year. All right, that's top talent working

8:54

over a hundred and fifty matches a

8:56

year, on top of all the travel, on

8:59

top of all the meat, on top of all the training

9:01

and trying to stay in the best shape so we actually

9:03

look like wrestlers, not the Brons and

9:05

Jim shorts. You get to a ring and do high spots.

9:08

Okay, so what we do,

9:10

no one else does the level that we

9:12

work at constantly, no one else

9:15

works at And I dare anyone anywhere

9:17

in any company on the planet to challenge

9:20

me on well said,

9:22

um, I

9:24

don't even know. Here's my question for you, because

9:27

you are the universal Champion, do you

9:29

are you? Are you satisfied with the amount

9:31

of input you get into your storylines

9:34

and character? Would you wish you had a little more you find

9:36

with the way the way it is? No,

9:39

that's a little bit. I'm satisfied with it because I

9:41

make a point to be satisfied with it. I make

9:44

a point to to contribute

9:46

my ideas and my thoughts, and if I feel strongly

9:48

about something the way it should be

9:51

either way it should be portrayed, and I will

9:53

make my my voice hurt and looks not

9:55

everybody gets that leeway, and and also

9:58

not everybody should get that leeway. Okay, that's

10:00

just not how it works. You have to build equity

10:02

with your audience, with your boss, with

10:04

your coworkers. You have to build equity

10:07

over time, and then you can get the equity

10:09

that the lee way to have that kind

10:12

of saying in your story is that's your complaint,

10:14

or you can just stand up for yourself and do it

10:16

instead of going on somewhere else and bitching

10:19

about it, you know what I'm saying. So, like, I'm very

10:21

satisfied with the amount of input that I have to like the

10:23

things that I don't always want to do. Yeah, it's but you

10:25

know what, sometimes that stuff works

10:27

because I can't see things perfectly every

10:29

single time. I don't have the perspective

10:32

that other people around me have. Vince mcmahn has

10:34

been doing this twenty years, longer

10:36

than I've been alive, Okay, So he's

10:38

got some ideas and he knows things that I just

10:41

don't know that I have to learn from. And

10:43

so sometimes being your

10:45

best is about taking advice from other people.

10:47

And so what we do is work together in

10:50

a group in a community, and we take advice from

10:52

every where, so each and every person that we respect

10:54

in our little circle and we try to make things better. But

10:56

to answer your initial question, he has absolutely at

10:58

extremely comfortable with them. The input I have in

11:00

my matches and my femost and my stories

11:03

and in my schedule. The w

11:05

W is obviously it's so fascinating

11:08

on on many levels. And I think in terms

11:10

of what you're saying to um.

11:13

Obviously, like we've been talking about, there's been

11:15

this sort of backlash recently from fans not

11:17

satisfied maybe with the product. Um.

11:20

But the fascinating thing is that no matter what happens,

11:23

things roll on. You mentioned all the life shows you guys

11:25

do, everyone would be

11:27

more than happy to make the profit that Vince

11:29

McMahon makes on a daily basis. It's

11:33

almost like, I don't want to say

11:35

it's um uh, you

11:37

know, you know, there can never

11:39

be a loss with the company, but you're such a

11:41

well oiled machine, and I think

11:43

that sort of gets taken it for granted and at

11:45

the end of the day, you know, Vince is doing okay

11:47

for himself. Yeah,

11:50

I mean thank you for granted as the key word there. I

11:52

think the fact that what would what we

11:54

do what I do if you just want to you know, we're

11:57

talking to me, let's talk about what I do. The amount

11:59

of incredible matches I put on

12:02

in a year's time that no one ever sees

12:04

now we're talking sure paper views, raws,

12:06

you know, an occasional SmackDown here and there, like

12:09

Yeah, the level that I can be at is extremely

12:12

high. But then look at all of the matches that no one ever

12:14

sees. It only the people in the sus of Montana

12:16

saw on Friday night. They're gonna go and tell

12:18

their friends about That's going to be a memory that some

12:20

kid in the front row is going to have for the rest of his life,

12:23

you know what I'm saying. And so that

12:25

gets taken for granted. People just

12:27

don't understand the scope of

12:29

w W. And it's very easy to hate

12:32

the New York Yankees. It's very easy to

12:34

hate them. But they're the best for a reason,

12:36

and we are the best for a reason. And it's

12:38

not because we've got some sort of monopoly or

12:40

stranglehold on the business. It's because we've got

12:42

the best talent roster and the most hard working

12:45

counter roster in the planet. That's why we're the best.

12:48

I'm curious to pivot here onto

12:51

something a little bit different. But as the Universal

12:53

Champion, you on the belt. Obviously

12:55

at WrestleMania, you've been

12:57

the champion since then, the Universal Champion

13:00

on Monday Night Raw every Monday night,

13:02

as everyone knows eight o'clock USA Network.

13:05

How much does your personal seth

13:08

rawlins schedule an

13:10

amount of work change increase

13:13

stays the same when you become the Universal

13:15

Champion, like since since Mania, is

13:18

your day to day life and work schedule much

13:20

busier or is it? I mean, you were a top superstar

13:22

before you had a title, so I don't know

13:24

how much of that changes when you get the title. I'm just curious.

13:28

Yeah, I mean, honestly, I've been essentially NonStop.

13:32

Like when did I blow my knee out and I came

13:35

back in the middle. I think

13:37

that's right, like May so

13:40

I've essentially been NonStop since

13:42

then. Uh and and and I've

13:44

been at the top of the game since

13:46

I won the title the first time. The media

13:48

hasn't slowed down, It's only sped up. Being

13:51

a Universal Champion now, being a guy who's just

13:53

face some Monday and iraw every single week,

13:55

you know I'm getting it only increases

13:58

it. It's exponentially. Um And

14:00

that's just the nature of of wanting to be a top

14:02

guy. And if you're not ready to take on that responsibility

14:04

that maybe you're not You know cut out to be in that

14:06

position. So um, I modeled

14:09

you know, my work as a jeftter Guislay

14:11

Vincerman. And you know, someone like John

14:13

Cena who is the same way, who just goes, goes,

14:15

goes, goes, goes, goes, goes, and not because he

14:17

feels like he has to, but because he loves the

14:20

business. He loves it. The other

14:22

week we're we're in l A for Ron,

14:24

John Cina drove up from San Diego just

14:27

to be at the show, just to watch it, just to

14:29

be close to because he loves it that much. And

14:31

you know, say what you will about John, Um,

14:34

he's someone who earned my respect

14:36

over the years because of the hard work

14:38

he put in, and he's someone who I've always had my

14:41

work ethic after because I try to keep up

14:43

with him. And hopefully the next guy who comes

14:45

in here and tries to take my spot, whoever

14:47

that may be, they're gonna have a lot to keep up to.

14:49

They're gonna have big shoes to fill.

14:52

And so yeah, you know, the work rate, that work load

14:54

increases exponentially, But when you're

14:56

really good at what you do, that's what happened. Yeah,

14:58

But I was shocked because that you.

15:01

Um, I was very pleasantly shocked

15:03

that you wanted it or could do this,

15:05

you know, a few hours before Monday night raw taping. I

15:07

figured this would be like prime

15:10

time for you to chill and relax

15:12

or work on you know, whatever it's coming

15:14

up. But I appreciate you doing

15:16

this on a on a Monday night, on

15:19

the back end of a two hour workout

15:23

cross fit. Yes,

15:25

sir, um,

15:29

so it's been we've we're almost fifteen

15:31

minutes, and I haven't mentioned Becky Lynch.

15:33

I'm sure you're expecting the question, but um,

15:36

I'm not gonna dig into your personal life.

15:38

But it's obviously now it's going on to TV. So

15:42

the first thing I have to say is I looked at your Instagram.

15:45

Uh, in preparation for this. The

15:47

picture you posted where you and Becky

15:49

sort of came out as this couple, and

15:51

you posted a picture of you guys kissing. Um

15:54

got eight hundred thousand likes, and a photo

15:56

of you winning the belt at Wrestleman

15:58

you got four hundred thousand likes. Oh, it's

16:00

interesting what people are, what people

16:03

you know are interested in. People

16:07

are happy, Yeah, they they like what

16:09

they're happy for. So if they're happy for myself

16:12

and being in a relationship, and that's fantastic.

16:15

Well you you guys did uh?

16:17

I mean that first day when it all came out on the internet,

16:19

was did you even were you

16:21

even able to go through your Twitter mentions

16:23

and Instagram mentions when you when I

16:25

think she had that tweet with um was

16:28

it Edge or his wife? I forgot what she said,

16:30

I'll ask my man. And then you said, oh, it's

16:32

okay to post this. I would imagine you probably

16:34

couldn't have checked social media for a

16:36

little while there. Your phone must have blo. You

16:38

know, you just leave it alone. You let it do its own

16:40

thing. It's its own monster. It'll figure itself

16:42

out eventually. So it looks like they're there.

16:45

It's been very here and they're not

16:48

full blown storylines, but they're obviously

16:50

mentioning you guys are boyfriend and girlfriend on the shows.

16:52

Do you have any sort of trepidation about that?

16:54

Do you have to approve uh,

16:56

sort of bringing the real life relationship onto

16:58

the show? Yeah?

17:01

I mean, you know, when when you first approach about

17:03

the idea, it's obviously you're kind of like, I

17:05

don't know how this

17:08

is going to work. Is it gonna work. I've

17:10

never done anything like that. I don't think

17:12

she has either, as far as I know. And

17:15

if you look at the way you know, the couples have

17:17

been portrayed in the past, sometimes

17:19

it's it's a bit sketchy, especially on

17:21

the woman's end, and so you know, I know, I know some

17:23

of her concerns about that, uh

17:26

and mine as well, and so you know, we had discussions.

17:28

But once we kind of sat down and brainstormed about

17:30

it, um, and then you know, we because

17:33

at the end of the day, they're not going to go forward with the idea

17:35

if it's not something we're comfortable with. And so

17:37

once we sat down a brainstorm to talk about

17:39

kind of how cool it might be, um,

17:43

and and the options that were, you know, in front

17:45

of us on the table, I think that we decided

17:47

that it would actually be a pretty fun thing to do in a cool

17:50

thing to do, and and it really kind of strike while the iron

17:52

is hot. It's not like this would be

17:54

as cool if we did it in a year from hour

17:57

or whatever. And so um, that's

17:59

assuming I'm lucky enough to keep her for a full year.

18:01

But if you know, the

18:03

thing is like I think watching

18:06

last night and me being in the ring, um,

18:08

you know, during the main advantage of the paper view, and hearing

18:11

the reaction when she hit the ring and kind of

18:13

seeing the reaction on social today

18:15

of just how everybody seems pretty

18:17

psyched about the kind of the role reversal thing, uh

18:19

is pretty sick to me. So I think we

18:22

we nailed it, hit the nail on the head, and I'm pretty pretty

18:24

happy with it, I think, so she Yeah, I think you're

18:26

now the man's man, right according

18:28

to Yeah, and then no confusion

18:31

with the the William Retal character

18:33

from you know there there every two thousands,

18:35

But yes, yes, I I am

18:37

now. I guess I guess I'm a man man. That's

18:40

it. I guess that's the thing. I know. You can't give spoilers,

18:42

and you don't want to give spoilers, and you shouldn't, But can

18:44

we fans who are listening to that, should we expect

18:47

more interaction, a bigger storyline.

18:49

Are you guys gonna play it the way you've been playing at the

18:51

past couple leaks where it's little things here

18:53

and there, we were building towards bigger

18:56

things, and it's

18:58

no fun if I oil. Thanks

19:00

for you, So I wouldn't want to do

19:02

that or your listeners, and so yeah, I mean the whole

19:05

fun of stories is to watch and let it

19:07

unfold. You know what I'm saying. No one, No one

19:09

wants to know the ending of Game of Thrones for Oh,

19:12

We're gonna get to that, don't worry. Um one

19:14

one last one on becky Um.

19:17

I'm just curious because I

19:19

read on the internet. So of course it's true that

19:22

you guys have been dating for a while before

19:25

the public reveal. Uh.

19:29

If that's true, I'm just curious, how were

19:31

you? Were you surprised you were able to keep it a secret?

19:34

And were you I mean, you guys

19:36

are top two dogs really

19:38

in the company, both champions her popularity.

19:41

What's happened in the last year has been off

19:43

the charts. So I'm just did

19:45

you have to do a lot of sleuthing, like you're sneaking around

19:48

and hide from people? Were you surprised

19:50

you be able to pull it off? Had that all happen for you?

19:53

Yeah? I mean we started dating in February and so

19:55

you know, a couple of months, you

19:58

know, I mean, we didn't they keep it a secret

20:01

that much? You know, we were in public, you

20:03

know, went to some concerts and stuff and took pictures

20:05

and stuff like that. But we were friends

20:07

for years beforehand, so I

20:10

think like kind of people were like, well, I

20:12

don't know, because they've been you know, not like we hadn't taken

20:14

pictures at the gym or you know, elsewhere

20:16

before, and so I think people were just kind of like, well, maybe

20:19

they're just friends or whatever. We're

20:21

like, yeah, we're just friends. But yeah,

20:23

we started seeing each other in February, and

20:25

uh, I don't think we you know, let the cat back

20:28

to what April and May or whatever. It was so

20:30

um, but it wasn't like we weren't like taking

20:33

extreme measures and she wasn't walking around

20:35

with the mustache or anything that. It was just, uh,

20:37

you know, we we did what we did. And then you

20:39

know, eventually she was like put

20:41

the thing on Twitter when she was arguing with Beth

20:43

and Edge, and I was like, hey, I had

20:45

this picture for safekeeping, so I popped

20:48

it up there and that was it wasn't too much thought

20:50

put into it. Did you know she was going to put that on Twitter?

20:54

No? I did not. We were riding in the car

20:56

together to a live of them

20:58

when she was, you know, going back fourth with the

21:00

two of them, and I was just kind of like, you

21:03

know, scanning my Twitter and rolling my eyes.

21:05

I hit some of her you know, you know, shooting machine,

21:08

and so I'm rolling some of my eyes and some of these

21:10

comments, and then all of a sudden, I saw that

21:12

one pop up and I just looked over at

21:14

her and I was like, huh, what are you?

21:17

What is this? And she just gave me a

21:19

little quick smile that she did, and then

21:22

I surprised her the next day with the picture.

21:24

So well, all right, so it was dueling

21:27

surprises nice. I like that. That's good spotan

21:29

a is always good for a couple. Uh,

21:32

you mentioned thrones. We gotta get to that. Um

21:36

So, sticking with entertainment before we get to the throne

21:38

that you got. You and Becky went to the MTV Movie Awards.

21:40

You get a kick out of stuff like that. Some guys,

21:43

I think, enjoy it. Some guys

21:45

are probably not deal with that whole

21:47

scene red carpet? Do you enjoy it? I

21:50

get a kick out of the idea of it. Right, So I

21:52

grew up watching MTV movie Worse and the Giant

21:54

gold popcorn stuff like that, so it was kind

21:56

of cool to like see it. We didn't actually

21:58

go to the war show because as well, we had a

22:01

lot of them ana on that night. Uh,

22:03

just fluence and went upeg, went to the Red Carpet and

22:05

we went right to the live event, just

22:07

to throw that in there. Parking back to the beginning

22:10

of this conversation. Um, but

22:12

yeah, it was cool to be there and kind of see

22:14

it. But yeah, I mean, it just

22:17

feels it feels

22:19

a little and I know we're

22:21

in the entertainment business, but it feels a little phony

22:23

and a little bit extra phony. And so for me,

22:25

it's not not necessarily my thing, but

22:28

I do enjoy the interviews and I had to. I had a good

22:30

time talking to, you know, some of the people in the Red Carpet

22:32

and they played some fun lettl games and stuff like that.

22:34

And it's always nice to get out there and

22:36

be seen. And um, anytime

22:39

I'm in public and that's on my arm makes me look

22:41

great. So uh, yeah,

22:43

it was. It was a good time. It was. It wasn't too

22:45

bad. We sent about an hour out there and headed

22:48

over to Anaheim and and you know, tore it up

22:50

at the pond. That's true celebrity stuff.

22:52

When you go to an event just for the red carpet, that's

22:56

that's when you're you know, too cool

22:58

for I know ye haven't vent, but I'm just saying, when you

23:01

come in, you do the red carpets, and then you disappear,

23:03

it's a very cool celebrity thing. Um

23:07

Thrones, I know you're a huge fan

23:10

and it's been a little while, but I think enough

23:12

people still want to hear about it. Do

23:14

you want to take like thirty seconds

23:17

to get anything off your chest about the final finale

23:19

or rant? Are you over? It's

23:22

over? Man? I was. I mean, I didn't have

23:25

any particular way that I wanted it to end,

23:27

so I wasn't disappointed. I didn't have any

23:29

expectations. I think they stayed true

23:32

to um you know, they're

23:34

the core stories of all the characters

23:36

and uh, the essence of the show.

23:39

Uh. And I thought they gave

23:41

everybody, you know, uh, kind of a perfect

23:43

ending, everyone that sort of stayed a lot and people

23:45

that died. So you know, I don't want to spoil for

23:47

anybody who hasn't seen it, but I had

23:49

no complaints. I know the internet loves

23:51

to complain. It's the favorite thing to do. Uh.

23:55

So I I thought it was great.

23:57

I was. I was thrilled and just sad that it

23:59

was gone. And I can't rate for the prequels. That

24:02

is definitely a refreshing

24:04

take because like you said that that

24:07

that finale got bashed pretty good. UMU.

24:10

Another non wrestling thing you you recently

24:13

opened a coffee shop in Iowa.

24:15

I'm just curious how that's going.

24:18

I love that you did that just because I

24:20

feel like I think people have this

24:22

image of what w E superstars are.

24:25

I know from you know, speaking

24:27

to you guys over the years, that you're so different

24:29

sometimes from whatever people see on TV. So

24:31

I love that we have Like the w w E Champion

24:34

opened the coffee shop. Yeah,

24:36

yeah, wells great man. I partnered

24:39

with a young couple out there and that they already

24:41

had one, and so I wanted to bring

24:43

craft coffee to my area and in the class

24:46

city and Iowa were a little slow. Um

24:48

they taken, so we did not have

24:50

one of those. And you know, we're fortunate enough actility

24:52

be superstars to be able to travel the world. And one

24:54

of the things I do with my buddies. Um,

24:57

you know cesarro, especially if you will find

24:59

local craft coffee shops and sit

25:01

down, which we're about to do here shortly. And

25:03

Everett, actually, UM, after I get

25:06

a phone with you, um and have a

25:08

nice, nice cup of jail and so, UM,

25:10

I wanted to bring that to my community. And UM,

25:13

I was like, yeah, there's none around here. How could I

25:15

do this? And so, like I said, I was looking enough to some

25:17

of a paul young couple who had a craft

25:19

coffee shop not too far away, and I was able

25:21

to coax them into um putting one in my area,

25:24

in my hometown, right next to my wrestling school. Actually,

25:26

and uh it's beautiful. They run a well,

25:29

the service is amazing. So if you're

25:31

ever in the quantity, stop on by

25:33

three nine two depots and UM take

25:35

some pictures in black and Werry Wrestling Academy

25:37

and enjoying enjoying a quartado

25:39

on average? How many cups a day

25:42

to seth Rollins Universal w

25:44

W Champion partaking M

25:47

Well, I'm a cups is the wrong measure for

25:49

me because I'm an espresso guy. So I

25:51

will usually do uh four

25:53

to six shots of espresso. It spread

25:55

out it's not all sometimes all

25:58

at once, but generally spread out ford to sick

26:00

shots to espresso. I would say, and and

26:02

any like when it's a Monday night Row day,

26:05

you like right before the show, to you down a

26:07

couple of shots or you can't do that before you go out

26:09

there. Now, I'm gonna have a

26:11

few right now and then I won't touch any for the rest

26:13

of the day. To be honest with you, I usually once the

26:15

adrenaline gets going one its time of get you

26:17

know on or own gets closer to showtime, I'm

26:19

usually set, so too much caffeine

26:21

gets my brain gets a little crazy when about

26:24

a drone. Well, I appreciate you coming on especially,

26:26

like I said, I know you have ROW to night and

26:28

uh you had a pay per view last night Stomping

26:30

Ground, so I'm sure you're tired, but I

26:33

appreciate it. And uh seth

26:35

rollins Monday night row. Everyone knows USA

26:37

Network every Monday at eight, And

26:39

uh, I appreciate you being so open and honest.

26:42

I have to say. I was like, I know some guys don't want to

26:44

talk about personal life, but uh, I

26:46

appreciate you, uh giving me

26:48

all the time and the candidness. You

26:51

know, bro Man had a good a good time with you. I

26:53

want to get off my chest. So thank you for the forum

26:56

and hopefully you get some some clickable

26:59

out of this one. I have a funny feeling

27:01

we will get a few clicks on this one too. This will

27:03

be posted first thing Tuesday morning. All

27:06

right, take care? Thanks that alright, my thanks

27:08

28:52

Sports Media, Barrett sports Media dot Com.

28:55

Jason Barrett, who recently uh got

28:58

thirty sports media people myself

29:00

included to participate in a sports

29:04

studio draft show and

29:06

it was a lot of fun. Jason, how you doing,

29:09

I'm doing well. Jimmy, how are you? I'm well.

29:11

Thanks for coming on and thanks for us me to be

29:13

part of the draft, even though I had the pick,

29:15

which I was not happy about. Uh,

29:19

before we get into this, just give people a little bit

29:21

on your background. I mean, I say, you know, president of Barrett

29:24

Sports Media, Barrett sports Media dot Com. Just

29:26

give the listeners a little idea of what you do on a day

29:28

to day basis. If you don't. Yeah, it

29:30

sounds so big, doesn't it. Right When the guy's name

29:32

is Jason Barrett and he has a company named Parrott

29:35

Sports Media, Like, you can really go out

29:37

on a limb for that one, right, Yeah, the

29:40

you know the long and short of it. I'm I'm a

29:42

guy who spent you know, my past

29:45

two decades, which is way too much

29:47

time in the sports radio

29:49

business. I got started an upstate

29:52

New York, moved to Bristol,

29:54

Connecticut, spent a little more than two years

29:56

with the ESPN Radio and then uh

29:58

after you know, during at time produced

30:00

some guys like Dan Patrick that Gottlieb

30:03

sewn Salisbury, and then was

30:05

lucky enough to uh get

30:08

given the keys to run a radio

30:10

station, first in Philadelphia, then

30:12

in St. Louis, uh, then

30:14

in San Francisco, built a few stations,

30:17

and then uh four years ago, decided to

30:19

go on my own, UH start consulting

30:22

a number of stations around the country, working

30:24

with the number of personalities

30:26

and brands, and as part of that and now

30:29

write content about the sports radio

30:31

more more sports radio than TV, but some

30:34

TV news in there as well, and

30:36

UH cover the media business. So that's the longest

30:38

sort of my background. So so you cover all

30:41

sports radio across the across the

30:43

country, I assume correct. Yeah,

30:45

of course. So I'm curious about something because

30:48

obviously I I talk a

30:50

lot about FRANCESSA and I used to be

30:52

a huge fan. I don't really listen to the show

30:54

anymore, but nobody in

30:56

radio, in my opinion, gets the attention

30:59

that might get. So even without listening to

31:01

them, you cover them, and I will

31:03

hear from people who say nobody

31:06

nobody outside of New York has about Mike Francesa.

31:08

Now, I know that the numbers that every

31:10

website gets disputes that. But you,

31:12

as a radio guy, is there anyone in

31:14

the country bigger

31:17

from an from an attention traffic

31:20

buzz standpoint than Mike Francessa.

31:24

I mean, look, the only uh, the

31:26

only area where you can make a case is when

31:28

you get into dealing with national guys

31:31

you know who are heard throughout the you know, the

31:33

whole country. You know, guys like Lavatory,

31:35

cowherd uh DP Clay,

31:38

they all have you know, because of

31:40

the fact that they're on in so many markets,

31:43

they're going to generate some interest in their

31:45

content. That being said, your

31:48

points well taken. I mean, Mike, first

31:50

of all, operates out in New York City,

31:52

which is the market, you know, largest market

31:54

in America. Um, because

31:57

he's such a lightning rod of

31:59

conver station. You know, you either love him

32:01

or you don't like him. Uh. He generates

32:04

a lot of interest, and he's been a number one guy for

32:06

a long time. He's uh kind

32:08

of uh, you know, he'll let you know he's number one,

32:10

which probably plays into that persona

32:13

a little more and makes people either want

32:15

to see him fall down or continue

32:17

to stay on top. So I mean,

32:19

look, he's a magnet for conversation. People

32:22

are always going to have an interest in what he says.

32:24

I'm with you. I grew up on Mike and the

32:26

Mad Dog. It was one of the reasons I got in sports

32:29

radio. Mike and Christ to me

32:31

are the greatest local show I've ever heard. Uh.

32:34

But you know, we're also in a different time and

32:36

age where social media.

32:38

I think when you talk about the conversation

32:41

and why so many people are fascinated

32:43

by francessa good or bad. You

32:45

know, let's face at fun House and

32:47

uh, you know the Mango Nation. Guys

32:50

that are you know, pumping tons

32:52

of francessic content on social especially

32:55

in sports media circles. We pay so much

32:57

attention to that that we wind

32:59

up share ring it and it certainly helps

33:02

with keeping that discussion alive

33:04

with people. So I mean, look, Mike

33:06

starts it with his content, and people

33:08

will talk, you know, good and bad about his content

33:11

depending on personal preference to how

33:13

he does a show. But from

33:15

a local personality standpoint,

33:17

I don't think there are many that are in that conversation

33:20

standing you know, from from a standpoint of

33:22

attracting the kind of interest that he does

33:24

like you, Like you said, I mean, I grew up a huge

33:26

Mike and the Maid Dog fan, and I was never ever a

33:29

national radio sports talk radio

33:31

guy, and I'm really still not. I do like Dan

33:33

Lebertard a lot. I think he does a great job. So

33:37

I'm curious if I said to you right now, what

33:40

are the three give me the three biggest,

33:43

most popular, most influential

33:45

national radio sports

33:48

talk radio shows, top three, what

33:50

would they be? If I'm going

33:53

top three right now, I would probably

33:55

say it's Lebotard

33:58

Cowherd and then slip

34:00

a coin between Dan Patrick

34:02

and Jim Rome. I mean, DP

34:04

has had the bigger TV

34:07

profile in recent years, which has helped

34:09

that, Um, you know, Jim

34:11

still has a lot of clout,

34:13

you know with you know, he's basically the main

34:16

guy that they're going to pump with CBS and because

34:18

they've got a lot of relationships

34:21

with Intercom, which is, you know, across

34:23

the nation probably the most uh

34:25

impactful sports radio uh

34:29

you know stations. They've they've got the best sports

34:31

radio stations from a company standpoint, so

34:33

you get some traction on there. But

34:36

to me, I think, you know, you're looking at Coward,

34:39

you're looking at Lebotard.

34:41

Um. I don't know about you, but you know, I

34:43

like a lot of stuff that serious does.

34:46

I think the harder part there is because they don't

34:48

play in the ratings space. It's really hard

34:50

to justify, you know, whether

34:53

or not they have more impact than some other local

34:55

shows or national shows

34:58

that are getting cleared on stations. But to

35:00

me, you're looking at three or four. Clay's

35:02

obviously got his fan base which has grown,

35:04

but I think you're probably gonna started with

35:07

Colin and Dan and then you go from there a

35:09

guy you didn't mentioned who I think with

35:12

with Dan Patrick, I think gets by

35:14

far the best guess is Rich Eisen.

35:17

And what I like about Eisen a lot is he

35:19

goes outside of sports. He does a lot of entertainment,

35:22

celebrity stuff. I think he does a great job with

35:24

getting those guests as well. Dan does too.

35:26

I think I think Rich does a little more

35:28

non sports stuff, which I appreciate. Um,

35:31

But I think those two of the top two when it comes to the

35:33

variety of big names that they get in

35:36

sports and entertainment, Yeah,

35:38

Listen, Rich is a fantastic interviewer,

35:40

just like Dan, and uh, you know, I

35:43

think Dan probably has more stations

35:46

across the country airing his

35:48

program. Um. I think one

35:50

thing he's done really well in recent years,

35:52

you know, back to when he left ESPN

35:55

UM all those guys for former colleagues

35:58

of mine, you know, Tops, Rich Paul, perhaps

36:01

Patrick O'Connor. I didn't work with mclovin

36:05

and he wasn't there, but I worked.

36:07

I think Dan did really well is he

36:09

was always an incredible interviewer. He was

36:12

always well informed and I think

36:14

people like listening to him talk about sports.

36:17

But the one thing that made

36:19

the show great in the past, whether he had Table

36:21

or solved Dary or Olderman, is those

36:23

guys provided some of the spice to the

36:25

show. Well when Dan went on his

36:27

own, UM, getting those

36:29

dan Nettes built into characters

36:32

on the show, I think has brought a new element

36:34

to the show. And uh, Dan is still

36:36

exceptional at what he does. But by bringing

36:38

those guys in and having them become

36:41

part of the family on the air, I think listeners

36:43

have got a chance to note the show better. And that's

36:45

why I think the show has done really well.

36:48

I have to mention I worked with Andrew

36:50

Parloff for several years before

36:52

he was mcclovin. Great guy, and uh,

36:56

come on, how much you know from Super

36:58

Bad? To get branded with that

37:00

that going forward, that's pretty good. I've always

37:03

said to him though, that I thought that nickname was ridiculous

37:05

because I don't think he looks at anything like mclovin. But

37:07

obviously it's it's stuck with him. But I knew him

37:09

way before a guy named

37:11

mclovin. Right, Yeah, I know him way before

37:14

mclovin. So and the show has not changed

37:16

him. I have to say he's a he's a good guy. All right, Let's

37:18

talk about this draft we did here with the

37:21

best sports studio shows

37:23

of all time. You got a lot of, like I said, a lot of the

37:26

sports media people that have been in this

37:28

podcast, Andrew Marshan, Chad Finn

37:31

Neil, Best of Newsday, Will

37:33

Leach, who currently does some video stuff for s

37:36

I. Um, so you ran

37:38

the gam and here you got a lot of the a lot of people,

37:40

and I'll give you so this

37:42

is it was a draft. So I'm gonna give you the order

37:45

of the top ten. I'm not gonna give you the top thirty. I'll

37:47

give you the top ten, which

37:49

I thought was nailed

37:52

except for one unbelievably ridiculous

37:55

pick that should have never been picked. But

37:58

so the top ten was Sports Center, Fox,

38:01

NFL Sunday, part of the interruption

38:03

inside the NBA College Game Day, number

38:05

five, NFL Primetime, number

38:07

six, NFL Red Zone, number

38:09

seven, Speak for Yourself,

38:12

Number eight, which I

38:15

don't. I still think that's a joke that's

38:18

almost playing on you. Number nine the sports reporters

38:20

on TV, which I love seeing that gets in recognition.

38:22

At number ten was real Sports. Uh,

38:26

what were your initial thoughts on that top ten?

38:31

Um? I was surprised um

38:34

by speak for yourself for sure, But I know

38:36

Mike loves you know, Whitlock and Marcellus,

38:39

and so you know, the hard thing when

38:41

when you when you do these kind of things is

38:43

no matter what you put out there, you know that

38:45

there's gonna be something that's gonna It's

38:47

just like voting for the Hall of

38:49

Fame or the NBA All Star Game, and

38:52

there's always this, you know, controversy,

38:54

how did this guy get an award or how this guy

38:56

get left out of the game, And so I

38:58

knew there would be some of that at some point,

39:01

because so much of this is about where

39:03

you're drafting and what your personal preferences

39:06

are. Like I think if, for

39:08

example, if Mike had been picking fifteen,

39:10

I still think you would have picked speak for yourself,

39:12

and people probably wouldn't say anything about

39:14

it. It's just that because it's in the top

39:17

ten and such a new show, there's going to be that immediate

39:19

reaction. UM. I wasn't surprised

39:22

at all by the top five. I

39:24

think, you know, you can make a debate either

39:26

way, like should inside the NBA B

39:28

one or college game day or sports center?

39:31

I have no issue with those five because

39:33

I think all of them have proven over

39:35

the course at time their phenomenal shows.

39:38

Um, as you go on through the rest of the draft,

39:40

there were a few things there that I

39:42

found the interesting and different.

39:44

You know that one fun part for

39:47

me with this exercise was to

39:50

bring together thirty people get a sense

39:52

of what they valued. Um,

39:54

it's not that Jason Barrett top thirty.

39:57

The you know, sports reporters, social

39:59

media guys, TV executives all waging

40:02

in and what you find is a

40:04

lot of people have a lot of different tastes. But more

40:06

more than not. Everybody seems to have a uh

40:09

similar opinion. Here's the one thing that did take

40:11

Jimmy that really surprised me. And

40:13

this is a sports media thing for sure.

40:16

Sports media people who report

40:19

on the business really don't like Debate TV

40:22

and First Take is

40:24

not on this list of the top thirty.

40:27

Yet you look at it from a number standpoint,

40:29

it does pretty well. Those guys make a lot of

40:31

money. Um, obviously everyone

40:33

knows Skip Baylis was well paid to go to Fox

40:35

Sports one. Skip and Shannon or

40:37

not on the list. I'm not saying they should

40:39

or shouldn't be on the list because a lot of that's going

40:42

to go to each reporter, But I

40:44

think there is something to be said about debate

40:46

style shows. A lot of people there's such a negative

40:49

connotation inside of sports media

40:51

circles to those kind of programs,

40:54

but it's hard to dispute that a lot

40:56

of those shows do make a lot of news and they

40:58

do generate a lot of traction throughout

41:00

the day that we talked about either

41:03

amongst our friends are on social media, so

41:05

I was kind of surprised. I

41:08

didn't think Skip would make it because a lot of people

41:10

love to crap on skip. But I was

41:13

surprised first take didn't show up on the top

41:15

thirty. I'm not surprised because the

41:17

people who did this are in sports media,

41:20

so they know the game and they know the bullshit

41:22

they're selling, so they don't fall

41:24

for it. And on top of that, you

41:27

know, I look at a show for instance,

41:30

um inside the NBA, College

41:33

Game Day, NFL Prime Time. Those

41:36

shows are not easy to do.

41:38

You can any any idiot can get on TV

41:40

and say Lebron James is ranked

41:42

eighth in the league right now, and cause

41:45

this mass it doesn't take a ton of

41:47

talent. Listen, it takes a ton of

41:49

talent to be able to take

41:51

the hits because you're gonna get beat up on a daily basis.

41:54

But to just sit there and say outrageous

41:56

stuff for the sake of sake saying outrageous

41:58

stuff is not something I think that

42:00

should be compared to to these shows.

42:03

That's just my opinion, and listen,

42:05

I'm with you. Like for me personally, I value

42:07

shows like Part of the Interruption,

42:10

College Game Day, inside the n B A

42:13

real sports those are always going to be

42:15

shows that that have a connection to me because I'm

42:17

more into the storytelling and the analysis

42:20

and the you know, immediate reaction to games

42:22

from people who know the game. Um

42:24

what I mean, Look, that's I'm playing

42:26

Devil's advocate. I would say, okay,

42:28

you can make a case that TNZ

42:31

Sports garbage Time, even

42:34

High Noon, which just got out, which I think

42:36

Boumani and Pablo do a nice job stumped

42:39

the Schwab. I can look at a lot of those

42:41

shows and say, listen, we we can't

42:43

even sit here and say that those shows

42:46

have had the impact at First Take has

42:48

had, whether we like First Take or not

42:51

sports media people, I mean, it

42:53

has been around for for a while, it has

42:56

had, uh, you know, some pretty

42:58

solid tourship over the year, and they

43:00

do tend to make you know news with

43:02

their content. I'm with you

43:04

in in the fact that, for

43:07

sure, it's definitely not going to be as as

43:09

had vanced up a production or

43:12

as deep thinking as some of

43:14

the shows like a college like a college game

43:16

day with me, so that that's

43:18

where the rob is for me. It's like,

43:20

okay, look, I think you can make a case

43:22

word against a few shows, uh,

43:25

but for me, I'm not going to put it in there with

43:27

Fox NFL Sunday, inside the NBA

43:29

and college gaming right. I will say

43:31

this. When I saw TMZ

43:34

Sports make the list at number

43:36

sixteen, Robert Littell Black

43:39

Sports Online that was his pick.

43:41

And I like Robert a lot. I have to say,

43:44

I rolled my eyes and said to myself

43:46

and that what is going on here? But when I

43:48

read when I read what

43:50

Robert wrote, he sold

43:52

me. See Mike

43:55

McCarthy, who picks speak for yourself, didn't sell

43:57

me on any level whatsoever. Robert

44:00

Hell sold me on the TMZ Sports. I thought it was

44:02

a compelling argument that he made. Yeah,

44:05

Rob Roberts point was spot on. I

44:07

mean, we are in a world where we care more

44:09

about drama and you know, the

44:11

daily news and how people react to things

44:14

than ever. So like guy understood

44:16

the point exactly. I think.

44:18

You know, as I was talking on the debate

44:20

side of things, you know, we

44:22

could say it's manufactured. We could say,

44:25

you know, okay, how hard is it to create a topic

44:27

and two guys lose their mind over

44:30

it, you know, and it generates reaction.

44:32

Well, we we overreacted as a society

44:35

and a sports fans to a lot of things. You

44:37

know, we're all drawn to opinions.

44:39

It's I mean, you and I both grew up love

44:41

with Mike and a mad Dog because they reacted to

44:43

a lot of opinions. The difference was we didn't have

44:46

social media freezing every moment in time

44:48

pointing out how ludicrous some things were.

44:50

Like I could tell you I had Chris Russo

44:53

on a radio show a long time ago, and

44:55

he smarter me. Bernie Williams would not be back

44:57

with the Yankees, and Albert Bell was coming to the

44:59

Bronx, and you know, and I

45:01

laugh about it now, but if you remember the

45:04

opening of that show, it was nothing can get

45:06

by them, turn them on a triumph. Well,

45:08

there were a lot of things that got by them. We just

45:11

didn't you know, we weren't keeping score like we

45:13

do today. So it's a lot it's

45:15

a lot harder today, I think, uh,

45:18

you know, in that regard, because so much of

45:20

what you say you're do is going to be measured about whether

45:22

you were right or wrong. But nonetheless,

45:24

like look, all of these shows obviously means

45:26

something that each person voting, And what

45:29

I thought overall, I thought we captured

45:31

most of it. And you know, there's always gonna be

45:33

a few areas where you could debate. As

45:35

I've said on this podcast many times, the

45:38

difference from me between Mike and

45:40

the mad Dog and then a hot take show is

45:42

that for me, Mike and the mad Dog

45:44

was authentic. The

45:46

hot take shows are so planned

45:49

out and pre production meetings, and you

45:51

take this side, you take that side. Whatever

45:54

you heard from Mike and Chris during those glory

45:56

years, they meant it no matter

45:58

how wrong they were. So I was what

46:00

I liked about the list, um, was

46:03

some of the old school shows on this list.

46:06

I loved that This Weekend Baseball

46:08

made the list because as I

46:10

had the twenty six pick I picked inside

46:12

the NFL, I think that was by far the best value

46:14

pick of this entire draft. I'm sure you'll

46:17

agree. Um, of course,

46:19

And when I listened those two and you know,

46:21

the other one that I really liked, the

46:23

sports writers on TV No.

46:26

I mean, I thought that was cool, but I kneel

46:28

to go off the board. But something because it did,

46:30

it did influence a lot of the future program

46:33

and we saw No. The one that really surprised

46:35

me that it slipped so late and

46:37

I thought was a great pick was Sports

46:40

by Brooks Teak and CBSS NFL today

46:42

at step and Seen. I

46:44

mean, I don't know about you, but like when I was growing up,

46:46

Rent Musburger being on television, Shimmy

46:48

the Greek Phyllis, George all that like, and

46:50

then they you know, modernized it with her

46:53

HERV coming into the picture. I thought, that was such

46:55

a great show. And maybe it's because

46:57

it was part of childhood that you know, you have a

46:59

connect into some of these shows, but

47:02

for it to be remembered, you know, here we are thirty

47:04

forty years later and to uh

47:06

and I thought, man, you could easily make a

47:09

case that that show should be higher, absolutely

47:11

going back to value. Like I grew

47:13

up loving inside the NFL, This week

47:16

in Baseball, CBS, NFL today, So

47:18

to see them on the list was cool.

47:20

I think in each of their case, you can make a

47:22

case that they should have been highed. Well that's the

47:24

thing with this list, which was it's

47:26

almost like you need two different drafts.

47:28

And it's like, all right, do the one draft

47:31

pre internet and one draft post Internet,

47:33

because if you did it pre Internet, this

47:35

Weekend Baseball was where you got all your highlights.

47:37

Inside the NFL was where you got all your highlights,

47:40

and like you said, I am a huge,

47:42

huge fan of Fox NFL Sunday. I have no

47:44

problem with it being in the top ten. But before

47:46

Fox NFL Sunday was, like you said, CBS

47:49

with Brent and Jimmy the Greek

47:52

and you are looking live and legendary,

47:55

absolutely legendary, well

47:57

you know the other And this is the

47:59

the the part that's really interesting

48:02

about this is if I reversed

48:04

this draft order and went from

48:06

the guys picking thirty to twenty and

48:09

put them in the top ten, move the

48:11

top ten guys down, you don't have a completely

48:13

different list. Probably, you know, like

48:15

I'm not saying some of those top ten shows when it's

48:17

still be there, they probably would, but I

48:19

can't. You know that the odds of that order

48:22

being what it is are going to be drastically

48:24

different because so many people. A

48:26

lot of this comes down to, you know, if you weren't

48:29

picking twenty six, Jimmy, and you're picking twelve,

48:31

you know, all of a sudden, you're going, Okay, yeah, I

48:33

would. I loved inside the NFL, But look

48:36

at some of the shows still left on the board. What do

48:38

I do? That's uh,

48:40

that's where it becomes interesting. If we did

48:42

this again and the order was different,

48:44

we'd probably have different results and people complaining

48:46

that they need the first results back. If

48:49

I was picking at twelve, I would have probably

48:51

I would have wanted to do Mike and the Mad Dog. I

48:54

might have though done CBS NFL

48:56

today if I had twelve. But um,

48:59

you know, but again, it's

49:01

an interesting one because I think NFL

49:04

Primetime College Game Day inside the NBA.

49:06

To me, I always feel like those are the top

49:08

three. But then how can you not say sports

49:10

centers? So there is it isn't a very

49:13

interesting debate, and um, there was a lot

49:15

of fun. I appreciated you asking

49:17

me. People can see the full Top

49:19

thirty at Barrett Sports

49:21

Media dot com. And uh

49:35

49:37

49:40

wants a redo,

49:44

Mike, I'm sure is written for

49:46

the bullet All right, take it easy, you

49:48
