Personally Sponsoring in Network Marketing

Early in my career, a mentor shared a couple of things with me when it comes to Personally Sponsoring in Network Marketing that I've never forgotten.

The first thing he shared has helped me to never forget, it's a numbers game when it comes to inviting people to take a look.

The other thing he shared has prevented me from getting frustrated with those who say yes, join me in my Network Marketing business, then do little to grow their business... do nothing at all... or quit.

In both regards, it's helped me to meet people where they're at, for both prospects and business partners.

Today, I want to share these things with you...

Part I: Personally Sponsoring in Network Marketing ... and how it relates to a deck of cards!

Before we jump in, though... I want to make an important point. To personally sponsor people into your business... you must be consistently prospecting and inviting!

The first thing my mentor shared, "When it comes to sponsoring (and building a big team), you must understand PROSPECTING and the best analogy is a deck of cards."

In my own words, let me explain what he meant...

We all understand that there are 52 cards in a deck; 4 Aces – 12 Face Cards (Jacks, Queens and Kings) – 4 each of 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, 9’s and 10’s + a couple of Jokers = 54. Right?

So, what does this have to do with Prospecting for your business?

First, what's the definition of Prospecting?

Prospecting is finding people to talk to about your business.

Everyone is NOT a prospect! You are looking for PROSPECTS, not PROJECTS.

Okay, now that we're on the same page about prospecting... let's get back to how it relates to a deck of cards.

Out of 54 invites, asking someone to take a look at your opportunity or products, some will be 2's, some will be 3's, some will be 4's, some will be 5's to 7's, some will be 8's to 10's... some will be Jacks or Queens or Kings... you'll come across 4 Aces and yes, you'll misjudge on occasion and invite a couple of Jokers! (LOL) It happens to us all.

Some you think are a prospect will say NO and might even be a bit rude about it! (2's).

Some will not return your call or respond to your messages (3's and 4's).

The list goes on and on. There are many, many scenarios; you know... the 5's - 10's.

The Face Cards... they seem excited, you just know they are going to join you any day now... and poof, they're gone!

And of course, there are the 2 Jokers We can't forget the Jokers.

You see, industry averages say that it takes 25 CONVERSATIONS to find 14 that have a need your product or opportunity can solve... so that's 14 Invites you'll make, asking someone to take a look.

Out of 14 invites, with practice and over time... if you stay consistent, on average you'll have 3 watch, listen or attend a Presentation.

Out of those 3, again... if you remain consistent, on average and over time, 1 of 3 will join you in business. That's your Ace.

So, out of 54 invitations, you'll find 4 Aces, that is... you'll sponsor 4!

For accountability, track!

Track how many people a day / week you invite to take a look at your opportunity or products.

In fact, I created a tracking chart for you that you can download -- just click the link below.

"The seeds of your SUCCESS are driven by your Prospecting habits!" ~ Unknown Part II; Personally Sponsoring in Network Marketing ... and how it relates to a deck of cards!

The second thing my mentor shared was how SPONSORING relates to a deck of cards. Again, we all understand that in cards there are 52 cards in a deck; 4 Aces – 12 Face Cards (Jacks, Queens and Kings) – 4 each of 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, 9’s and 10’s + a couple of Jokers = 54!

So, what does this have to do with Sponsoring in your business... how does it relate to a deck of cards?

Following the formula above, depending on your how consistent you are, you might sponsor 54 or more in your first year!

Out of 54 people that you SPONSOR into your business, just like with prospecting, some will be 2's, some will be 3's, some will be 4's, some will be 5's to 7's, some will be 8's to 10's... some will be Jacks or Queens or Kings... you'll come across 4 Aces and yes, you'll misjudge on occasion and sponsor a couple of Jokers, too!

You see, some of your business partners will get started, place their initial order and quit... and maybe even return their starter kit. These would be the 2's and 3's.

Some will get started and do nothing. They'll remain active but will be what we refer to as 'wholesale' product or service users.

Some will get started and get off to a fast start, then do nothing... or work on and off... never really quitting but never being in consistent activity.

Some will get started, share with a few close friends or family and end up with a few customers, never sponsoring a business partner.

Some will build a BIG customer base.

A few will sponsor on and off.

A few will build a balanced business with a few customers and business partners.

Industry averages, 4 of 52 will see the big picture, work consistently and build a BIG business. These are the Aces.

And of course... there will always be a couple of Jokers! LOL

Our job, as sponsors is to work with the working, love the rest and provide systems for them to 'plug-in' when they are in the mood.

Now, to not become discouraged, again... I suggest you track how many you've sponsored! You can't be frustrated that no one is 'doing' anything if you've only sponsored a handful.

It's the law of averages and we can't change that.

To track your sponsoring numbers, the download I created for you includes a Sponsoring Tracking Chart, too!
