Alright , Mr . Simple Biz Sky . Let's guide
0:08
to show.
0:09
Hello everybody and thank you for tuning into
0:11
this episode of the Simple Biz 360 podcast.
0:14
This is episode two 16.
0:16
So for those of you who've been with us since the beginning, we really
0:18
thank you. We appreciate it. Uh,
0:20
we are so excited in year five to be
0:22
sharing with you, and it's a five minute format. It's
0:25
fast. We try to just lay some questions
0:28
out that you can ask yourself, and
0:30
they're questions baked on continued
0:33
improvement, but they're kind of centered on this whole
0:35
notion of creating better experiences
0:38
for our customers. We've been chasing this
0:40
concept since 1988
0:42
when I read a TARP study that simply
0:45
said, 26 outta 27 people have
0:47
had a bad experience, failed to
0:49
tell the company that, you know, created that bad
0:51
experience. And why is that? 'cause they don't expect
0:54
anything to change. 91%
0:56
of those unhappy customers, they defect,
0:58
they leave, they never come back. A good portion
1:00
of those go on to tell nine or 10 associates,
1:03
friends, colleagues, neighbors, and 13%
1:06
of those, 91% of the people who left,
1:08
they go on to tell 20 or more
1:10
people. So there's this infectiousness
1:12
that happens , uh, to companies
1:14
that aren't in touch with what's creating this
1:16
bad experience. And our job
1:19
is to talk about this, is to, to
1:22
flush out some of these things that are causing
1:24
or that could cause these bad
1:26
experiences and get you to ask yourself
1:29
questions at home and your place of
1:31
business and your rocking chair and
1:34
your lounge chair at the lake in the cabin,
1:36
wherever. And man, come to terms with this
1:38
and try to figure out ways you can
1:40
prevent this from happening. So today we're gonna be talking
1:43
about sending tracking and
1:45
collecting on invoices. And you're probably thinking,
1:47
what a , what a crazy, who doesn't
1:49
do that? Well, let's, let's take my family
1:52
and, and you guys have families, you got stories,
1:54
you got business stories. Just check this out.
1:57
I have a family member who paid
1:59
for a wedding in the seventies. The reception
2:01
was a $10,000 reception
2:04
in the mid seventies. This was done out at the
2:06
midea in a luxury hotel. And
2:09
to this day, they've never
2:11
been invoiced for that wedding. And
2:13
my relative took pride in that. And you
2:15
know what? That's crazy. How does that happen? Well,
2:18
my book, I talk about it in my book about
2:20
a contractor who just wouldn't send
2:22
me an invoice. I had lunch today with a guy who
2:24
said one of his clients one year didn't
2:26
collect $30,000
2:29
in invoice business. It was like, oh, well,
2:31
you know, whatever. I just missed it. How
2:33
do you miss that? You , you know, and it's,
2:36
it's just so easy to , um,
2:38
you know, I guess not have procedures
2:41
and, and , and programs in place to protect
2:43
against it. But guys, this is
2:45
really crazy. This
2:48
is happening at levels that
2:50
are costing companies money. And
2:52
uh , you know, I'm amazed that I'll do speaking events
2:54
and somebody will raise their hand and say , oh my gosh, I
2:57
had this problem for years. You're like, how
2:59
is a cable company, a lighting company,
3:01
a you know, electrical company, a
3:03
, a , a , you know, a
3:06
company that does gutters? I mean, it just
3:08
goes on and on and on and on and on.
3:10
So what do we suggest? Will you send
3:12
them the, if you're gonna email 'em
3:15
the , uh, invoice, make
3:17
sure you also send them a copy
3:19
of that invoice in the mail and make
3:21
sure if it's an email that you send, copy
3:24
yourself. It's just so easy, right?
3:26
And set up a program that
3:28
you can reconcile a transaction
3:31
and you can make sure that that invoice
3:34
has been sent both ways.
3:36
And then you can start tracking it and collecting
3:39
on it in a timely fashion and then track
3:41
it for 30, 60, 90 days and older. Make
3:43
sure you're looking at these open ar I mean so
3:45
many little companies don't do it. You
3:48
have to, you gotta get some help from the outside
3:50
if necessary. But you've gotta do it. And make
3:52
sure you ask
3:55
for these payments. I
3:57
mean, you just can't let it go to the win . This is
3:59
what brings co companies, small
4:02
little companies to the business graveyard. It
4:04
happens. So it's not really creating a
4:06
, a better experience for your customers,
4:08
but it is. 'cause if you're a good little company,
4:10
you're gonna be around to create
4:13
better experiences for 'em later. We don't
4:15
wanna see you go to the business graveyard,
4:17
so just think about it. But you know, please
4:20
send track and collect those invoices.
4:23
You'd be shocked at how many companies don't.
4:25
So today we're gonna end with this little look at Fillmore
4:27
East, Fillmore West. We're gonna go back to west, we're
4:30
gonna go back to Van Morrison outta
4:32
Ireland. He graced the stage on
4:34
April 24, 20 fifth , 26th . He
4:37
does a version of come running
4:39
to meet . It is just awesome. Enjoy
4:41
it. We will see you in 168
4:45
hours .
