Born in Singapore in 1942, he was sent to his ancestral village in Punjab when he was five. He returned to Singapore in 1956 to pursue his studies, and has been an educator all his professional life — retiring in 2004 as Principal of Serangoon Secondary. Currently President of the Central Sikh Gurdwara Board of Singapore, he’s been an active member since the 80s.
