Thank you, Claire Coder, for joining the flow-versation!  Claire is the founder and CEO of Aunt Flow and we got to talk about what makes this subscription-based pads and tampons company so different from the others Hint: you’re actually helping someone else who is in need.

At only 19 years old, she is changing the game in what it means to menstruate with others and have a gender neutral company.

About Claire Coder:

Never did I think that I was going to be talking about menstruation for a living. When I was younger, I dreamed of being a princess. In some ways, I am living that dream. I wear an invisible tampon tiara, I wave around a magical pad, and I eat a lot of food. In my Perfect Period Palace, everyone has access to tampons and pads.

Even though I lived in a fantasy world growing up, my mom never shied away from sharing with me the realities of life. As an art therapist, she frequently dealt with female clients struggling with basic needs. She explained that the women she served often wore plastic bags and multiple layers of clothing when on their periods; it was easier to soil garments than to get a tampon. I didn’t understand why.

Now 19 years old, I have come to realize that tampons and pads aren't covered by food stamps, the WIC program, and in most states they are taxed. Often, women, shelters, and families conclude that food takes precedence over basic menstrual hygiene products. Not having a tampon or pad is a horrible situation. EVERY woman can attest to this. I wanted to create a sustainable solution for this problem, so Aunt Flow came to town. As a woman, I understand the burdens of a period and I want to make it as pleasurable as possible, for every human.

I UNDERSTAND THAT TAMPONS WON’T SOLVE POVERTY, BUT ENSURING HUMANS HAVE ACCESS TO THEIR BASIC NEEDS IS A START. WE NEED TO START SOMEWHERE, SO WHY NOT "DOWN THERE?"
