Welcome to Episode 13 of Slightly Evolved! Our guest is Dr Rachel Penczykowski from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, who is soon to start a faculty position at Washington University in St Louis. This week we are talking about disease! Rachel talks about her research on how ecological context can influence the prevalence and spread of disease, and what the consequences may be for other organisms in the ecosystem. Originally from the US, Rachel did her first postdoc in Finland. We talk about her experiences with two very different social care systems and how this has influenced both her professional and personal life. As always you can contact us via email (
