Welcome to Episode 15 of Slightly Evolved! Our guest is Elizabeth Jones, a PhD student at University College London.Elizabeth is a historian of science and for her PhD has been investigating the development of ancient DNA research from early work done in the 1980s to the present day, where whole genomes of extinct animals can now be sequenced. Elizabeth tells us about the relationship – and sometimes disconnect – between research and its portrayal in the media, for example, the relationship between the film Jurassic Park and ancient DNA research. We also talk about what is involved in doing a history of science research project, and how this has led her to extracting DNA from the preserved head of famous English philosopher Jeremy Bentham...As always you can contact us via email ([email protected]), Twitter (twitter.com/slightlyevolpod) or join on our Facebook group (www.facebook.com/groups/664596143711550/).
