Our guest is Dr Erica von Essen from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.Erica is a hunting sociologist and her research has focused on human-wildlife conflicts, hunting and animal ethics. We talk with Erica about the drivers of illegal hunting, how this relates to wolves in Sweden and how understanding the mentality of poaching is needed for management and conservation. We also discuss some of the parallels between illegal hunting and the rise of popularist political movements across the world.
