Welcome to Episode 20 of Slightly Evolved! Our guest is Dr Susan Johnston, Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. We talk to Susan about how genomics can solve some long standing evolutionary puzzles. We talk about her work with Soay sheep on how hornless males persist, despite strong sexual selection on large horned males. We also talk about her recent work studying the evolutionary importance of recombination rate variation, a key parameter in generating genetic variation. While a lot of Susan's research has been with Soay sheep, she has worked on a range of different study organisms and questions. We discuss some of the benefits and challenges of changing research systems and questions over her research career. You can find Susan on Twitter (twitter.com/SuseJohnston) and read more about her research here (https://susanejohnston.wordpress.com/).As always you can contact us via email (
