The volume. Hi,
0:07
I'm Sloan and I know basketball.
0:13
Today's guest started as a three star recruit
0:15
in high school and is now a ten year
0:18
MBA veteran. His journey from hooping
0:20
in LA to earning first team All Conference at Colorado
0:22
and now playing for his hometown Los Angeles
0:25
Lakers, is this story you won't want to
0:27
miss. So let's get to know Spencer.
0:30
Get with it. Okay,
0:35
So Spencer, I'm sixteen,
0:37
which I'm sure for you those a really long time ago.
0:40
But I need you to think back to when you
0:42
were sixteen and tell me what you were like
0:44
personality.
0:44
By I mean
0:47
not to age myself sixteens,
0:51
like half my life will go.
0:52
I guess, uh, you know.
0:54
I mean I was with a sophomore junior in
0:56
high school at that time. I
0:58
was kind of starting to come to I was a basketball player. I understand
1:01
I was probably gonna, you know, at least
1:03
be able to go to Division one. So
1:06
yeah, I mean, I think there was a lot of maturation in growth
1:08
that kind of was happening at that time.
1:10
And you know, but I was still in a normal high
1:12
school experience.
1:13
It seems like you're traveling the world and
1:15
living out your dream already.
1:17
Yeah, it's it is really cool. So it's sixteen.
1:19
Obviously you grew up in Woodland Hills, which, for those of you
1:21
who don't know, is basically a little bit outside of Los
1:23
Angeles. But at least being in that area,
1:25
do you have any relationships with any NBA players?
1:29
So actually, you know, I grew up in like
1:32
in the heart of LA like oh Okay, in like south central
1:34
area. I mean by the time about sixteen, though, I was
1:36
living in around like View Park, which is
1:38
close to Cover City. My bus out to.
1:40
Tap the
1:42
Woodland Hills there.
1:43
I mean, I went to high school with Larry Drew,
1:46
ended up, you know, having a couple of stints in the NBA.
1:49
You ended up crossing paths with a lot of guys just in
1:51
the high school au circuit anyway.
1:55
But I wasn't like super heralded, and I didn't
1:57
have, you know, anybody in my family
1:59
that was in NBA or anything like that, so I didn't get
2:01
to kind of get you know, ushered
2:03
in or gloomed into that, you know situation.
2:05
Have you always been a Laker sent? Yeah,
2:07
so your sixteen year old self would be like
2:09
this would be crazy.
2:10
Oh, no, listen, if you could
2:12
have told my sixteen year
2:14
old self that, hey, in your tenthyon NBA, you're gonna play
2:16
for Lakers and and all that stuff like
2:18
that, you he would have took
2:21
whatever consequences came with that.
2:23
He took both ACL tears, all of THO stuff be
2:26
here.
2:26
Yeah, yeah, well I'll do it.
2:28
So I heard that in high school and now, obviously
2:30
you're really smart. How
2:32
did you balance being a student and an athlete?
2:35
And I guess what advice can you give to kids that are trying
2:37
to balance that student athlete life?
2:39
Yeah?
2:42
Yeah, yeah, I mean I cred
2:44
my mom a lot. She got PAGY
2:46
from USC, She's she's brilliant, stressed
2:48
academics early. I'd like
2:50
to think I'm fairly in touch, and so school
2:52
kind of came easy. I was able to, you know, get
2:55
good grades with
2:57
effort, but not not too too much effort. I think
3:00
what I really sacrificed growing up was just social
3:03
life and that stuff. I think, you know, you can kind of
3:05
pick too, you know, basketball, school,
3:08
having fun, and so I just delayed
3:10
my fun into Yeah, you know, I got an NBA
3:12
basically, you know that kind of sort
3:15
of back half of college back a couple of years college,
3:18
Like I did have a little bit of fun like junior
3:21
in college, but other than that, no,
3:24
I mean I pretty much had that delayed gratification
3:26
mentality and uh, you know,
3:28
just stuck with what would give me far in life.
3:31
Yeah, So after high school, what was the thought process
3:33
with choosing Colorado? I know, you had an offer from
3:35
Harvard, which is obviously a non
3:38
traditional path to go down, but I think a lot of people
3:40
now are starting to sort of try the IVY
3:42
route and you know, they want to be that first
3:44
option for How did that go for you?
3:48
Basically?
3:49
I mean, again, my my academics
3:51
were pretty solid, So you had some
3:53
of those prestigious schools on that side
3:56
looking at me. I got pretty
3:58
much most of the pact to offer, along
4:01
with obviously Harvard, But the differentiating
4:03
factor between most of
4:05
the PAC.
4:05
Twelve Colorado and Harvard was Colin.
4:07
Harvard really just stressed like, hey, we love you. It's
4:09
going to be a centerpiece of you
4:11
know, our recruiting class. You're going to be the guy
4:14
that we want. And
4:16
then it came when it came down of those two schools,
4:18
I really just had in my mind that I wanted
4:20
to go to the draft early. You
4:22
know, at the time, I know I wasn't gonna be one and done. I wasn't
4:24
McDonald's America or anything like that. But I really,
4:27
in my in my heart believed I could do two
4:29
years and lead, and there
4:31
just wasn't a precedent for somebody
4:33
doing that for an IVY league. So I knew if I would go to the Patrol
4:36
of Conference, play against the best players,
4:38
show my talent against them, that I might
4:41
have a chance to leave after two years.
4:42
Yeah, and what are your thoughts as a Colorado
4:44
alumni and coach Prime coming and taking
4:46
over.
4:47
It's epic. It's epic.
4:48
I went back, caught a couple of games, I got to meet him, talk
4:50
to him a little bit.
4:52
You know, he's he's an inspiring guy. I
4:55
see how he's termed the program around.
4:56
I mean, I'm excited to be a part of it. Like I
4:59
loved every second going back.
5:00
Yeah, super cool. So I guess
5:02
now we jumped around. We were talking about college, but I want
5:04
to go back to high school for a little bit. So you were a three star
5:07
and you were ranked one hundred and twenty eighth nationally
5:09
in high school, which is not necessarily
5:12
a common route for a guy who's now
5:14
been in the NBA for ten years, what advice
5:16
would you give to high school athletes wh or not top
5:18
ten, top one hundred recruits, but want to
5:20
succeed in their sport.
5:21
I mean, I think being realistic with your game.
5:24
I think you know, for me, I grew
5:26
gradually. I wasn't very athletic, so I
5:28
had to gain a lot of skills and
5:31
versatility. I think as I was able
5:33
to get taller, stronger, and more athletic, that's
5:36
kind of my game blossom. So that's why I was kind
5:38
of a late bloomer in that standpoint in
5:41
terms of high school. But yeah,
5:44
I mean, the more you can be realistic
5:46
with your craft, work hard every day, aboually
5:48
develop a routine, but just
5:51
never be.
5:51
Too big for any
5:54
role. Yeah, I think that's how you last ten years
5:56
in the league.
5:56
I've been everywhere from a first option
5:59
to literally the fifteenth option.
6:01
Guy doesn't dress and it is about to get cut,
6:03
so you know, and each role
6:05
one through fifteen has its own challenges
6:08
that you have.
6:08
To prepare for.
6:09
I love that also, So I know
6:11
in your class of those all those
6:14
you know, one hundred and twenty seven recruits above me, there was Michael
6:16
Carter, Williams, Anthony Davis, et cetera. Growing
6:18
up in the AU circuit, Can you tell us
6:21
a story about playing a guy like that?
6:23
I mean, my best AU story is probably when we
6:25
won the Adida Super sixty four
6:28
going into my senior year. Yeah,
6:30
I mean we played like Memphis Elite
6:33
and the other guys that were big
6:35
time at the time. You know, we
6:37
were kind of an unholded secondary
6:40
pump and run team from California.
6:42
Was able to win.
6:44
I know, now it's like all eybl on Nike
6:46
circuit and stuff, But back then the Adida
6:48
circuit, like it was like, what was
6:50
it, Dida's big time Super sixty four.
6:53
Then there's one in LMU that I can't remember
6:55
the name of. We're like the big time terms
6:57
at the team. So it was the equivalent of like when
7:00
eybl type of thing.
7:01
What are your thoughts on the way that sort of AU
7:04
basketball has evolved into this now like crazy
7:06
thing on social media and everyone knows these
7:08
kids before they even make it anywhere really close
7:11
to it.
7:12
I mean, I think in terms of exposure, it's dope,
7:14
right, Like you want everybody to be able to expand
7:16
their brand or get their money, capitalize
7:19
on name and likeness and all that stuff.
7:21
I think for the
7:24
priority of or
7:26
the prioritization of the end game experience,
7:29
I think it's kind of trash now
7:31
because I've seen, you know, some guys like let guys
7:33
go get dugs and you know, so they
7:35
can get their high through sixty you know what I'm saying,
7:38
Ducks on the break stuff like that, Like you know, coming up,
7:40
we played to win.
7:41
Yeah, you know what I mean.
7:42
And that was just it, like you just you
7:44
went out there, you tried to win the game you want
7:46
or lost, whatever it was, you try to learn get better.
7:48
Like it was kind of a simple formula.
7:50
We didn't have as much outside noise,
7:52
and we weren't giving guys breakaway ducks
7:54
like yeah, you know, just so they could get their you
7:57
know, mixtape off or whatever like so,
7:59
so to me, that's something that
8:01
i'd love to see change for sure.
8:03
Yeah. And I think on that note,
8:05
something interesting is like it's like guys are playing for
8:07
themselves on their teams exactly, you know, because they
8:09
want to shine, not their team. But it's a team small.
8:11
Yeah, yeah, I don't be wrong.
8:13
There's always gonna be an element of that, right, Like
8:15
like in the NBA now everywhere you
8:17
go, like everybody wants to do well, you know
8:19
what I'm saying, But you have to understand
8:22
your role and try to be a star in that as well for
8:24
the collective's success, because you
8:27
know, rising tide raises off ships, you know,
8:29
And like I said, there's been times where I've
8:31
averaged twenty in the league and a
8:33
sixteen point a game or a sixteen point
8:36
game might be considered bad.
8:37
And obviously we lose, and you know,
8:40
I have to be better.
8:41
Whereas like you know, I've been again the six
8:44
seventh eight guy, whatever you come in, you get sixteen
8:46
points, you probably played really well, you're super
8:48
efficient, you help your team win. It's the same number,
8:50
but different context, and so guys
8:53
gotta understand that.
8:54
Yeah, So I liked hearing about you at sixteen.
8:56
Again, that was so long ago, I know, almost
8:58
not your life ago. I feel like I really
9:01
got to know you as a sixteen year old. I don't know if we would be friends.
9:03
I feel like maybe about Yeah, okay,
9:06
now I want to know about you now. So, Spencer,
9:09
what was your eye made it moment. I
9:11
made it moment the
9:13
head scratcher quite literally.
9:16
Yeah, no, that that's tough. I mean I
9:20
haven't really dwelled in uh
9:24
and some of the accomplishments. I mean, I probably.
9:27
Go back to maybe my game winners against
9:29
Detroit, which
9:32
probably came in my fourth year
9:34
in the NBA, maybe just
9:37
because of everything that had gone on. You know, my
9:39
first year is not playing it all pretty much
9:42
getting cut you know, and deallely
9:44
signed to Brooklyn all sort of stuff, and then you
9:46
know, to come back play the Pistons.
9:50
Now I had to be my fourth year. I think it was my third year because
9:52
I signed late.
9:53
That year, but yeah, probably my fourth year and having
9:56
the game winners one in the in Little
9:58
Caesars and and you
10:00
know, a couple of big shots in Barclays as well, probably
10:03
was what I really felt like, you
10:05
know, actually, let.
10:08
Me take that back, let me take that back.
10:10
Yes, those were big time os where
10:12
I felt like solidified in the NBA. But
10:14
probably the one game that I can
10:16
remember in Detroit that I
10:19
remember being like I belong was against
10:21
the Wizards. Ironically, John Wall
10:23
well, just a podcast within something like that, you
10:26
know, at the time it was one of the best point guards in the league and kind
10:28
of.
10:28
Look up to. I think
10:30
that was like my first twenty point game or something. I
10:34
would say that was cool. I
10:36
like tiped dunk my own missing that game and stuff.
10:38
It was.
10:38
It was kind of cool. Yeah.
10:39
I saw the John Whole podcast. He said, you're gonna sleep
10:41
for a year after retired, Like, I
10:44
are.
10:44
You being for rip? Do you think, yeah,
10:46
you're.
10:47
Like a man caven like Hibernate y?
10:49
Ok, yeah, No, like like you said, I mean,
10:51
think about it.
10:51
I climbed from what one twenty
10:54
eight my high school class to
10:56
even get to the spots and things
10:58
and now tend your career, and you
11:00
know, that's that's been an odyssey of itself.
11:03
You know where things have happened that haven't
11:05
necessarily been the greatest, and you
11:08
know, now.
11:09
Yeah, when it's all done, ye, I'm
11:11
gonna take it a nice little siesta.
11:13
So obviously, the free agency process is something
11:15
that you're very familiar with, and people in
11:18
and around the league are very familiar with. But US
11:20
fans we have so much to say about
11:22
it and sort of don't really know what actually goes into
11:24
it. When you are looking
11:27
at teams and talking to them. What are green
11:29
flags that you look for?
11:32
Green flags? I think, you
11:34
know obviously when they have a specific
11:36
plan for you, you know, and then you
11:39
look around the roster, it doesn't seem to be like conflicting
11:41
messages.
11:42
Yeah, you know.
11:44
Sometimes and this hasn't necessarily happened
11:46
to me because I was mostly in free agency.
11:49
Just like one major times, yeah,
11:51
U nles' say.
11:51
They have three centers on the roster and then they
11:54
promise you know, another saying that they're going
11:56
to start or something like that.
11:57
It's like that makes sense, you know,
11:59
So you know, some of that goes on.
12:01
I think obviously, you know, you definitely want
12:04
the financial component to be whatever
12:06
you want it to be in terms of market value. Then
12:09
you gotta look at like living areas,
12:12
uh, you know, is
12:14
it is it conducive to whatever lifestyle
12:17
you enjoy?
12:19
Your vocabulary is like insane. I'm like half
12:21
these words and you're saying, like I have not learned with those
12:23
people. What does
12:25
that mean?
12:27
It just it just blends well okay, okay, you
12:29
know, for example, let's.
12:32
Say you wanted to party like I think Miami's probably
12:34
yeah, okay, oh, Miami's yes.
12:39
But yeah, I think, uh, it's just a multitude
12:41
effective.
12:50
So I want saw a story where Shaq said
12:52
he had signed the team mid season and he like broke
12:55
the record for the amount of money
12:57
I don't know, spent in Walmart in one day
13:00
or something because he just moved to the city. So he like
13:02
bought like TVs, like food,
13:04
refrigerators, et cetera in the first forty
13:06
eight hours that you signed with the Lakers. What went
13:09
into that whole process?
13:11
Oh, I just I mean I
13:13
just got it jet and came home. I
13:15
didn't break any Walmart rules. I mean, obviously
13:18
I already had this house. Yeah,
13:21
I'm from here, so you know when I
13:23
signed, I mean I should have a house and does
13:25
too. But both of those places
13:27
were like home. So when it was come in time for that
13:30
kind of decision, Yeah, that's really all
13:32
I was doing was just going back to the crib basically
13:34
and just trying to like reset,
13:36
regroup, take a split second to kind
13:38
of refocus, and then yeah, figure
13:41
out what that team needs for me, and dive
13:43
in.
13:44
Cool. So you're playing the Calves
13:46
on Saturday, walk us through your
13:48
preparation process for that game, or I
13:50
guess any game, whatever.
13:51
Tim would have been.
13:53
Yeah, I mean I think that one's a little bit interesting
13:55
because that's a new game. So you
13:58
know, I probably have to get there eight
14:00
or nine in the morning, so you know, I'll be up
14:02
relatively early.
14:03
Yeah, it'll probably just be smooth before
14:05
that game. Nothing too crazy.
14:07
What's your smoothie order?
14:09
No, I can't if I give, if
14:11
I can recipe, yeah, if I get a
14:13
secret recipe, I gotta kill you. That's
14:17
that's the way it works. That's the secret sauce. That's
14:20
what like that's that's that's
14:23
beef and fruit or how.
14:24
Every city you drink the same smoothie.
14:26
Roughly, Wow, roughly, I have a
14:29
couple of staples in this mooth and then sometimes
14:31
you know, you switch it up, okay, Yeah, and then also
14:33
sometimes certain cities have uh
14:36
more health food obsually like sea laws,
14:38
et cetera, and some don't.
14:39
So the situation is giving like Plankdin
14:41
from SpongeBob where they like steal this
14:43
secret thing for the okay, you.
14:45
Can't do that track pat formula, it stays,
14:47
uh, it stays locked up in the center.
14:49
On the topic of food, what is your post game cheat
14:52
meal?
14:53
Cheat meal?
14:53
Yeah, cheat meal
14:55
is like when you're like, because you know, you're
14:58
an athlete, right, like you have to be really healthy. But like,
15:00
let's say you just like have a really good game whatever
15:02
and you go home, you're like, oh, I need to go Chick fil a like that
15:04
type thing.
15:05
Oh no, I don't even bullshit like that.
15:06
Oh so you never have this.
15:09
Basically, So like
15:12
nine percent of the time I eat steak and fruit,
15:14
like that's my entire diet basically, But
15:17
how.
15:17
Do you cook your seak medium?
15:21
With that being said, though, my cheap
15:24
thing to do is peach
15:26
cobbler. I love peach trousers.
15:27
Okay, but that still follows
15:30
with like the fruit thing.
15:31
You know, like.
15:33
I guess I meant like raw fruit
15:35
basically, like oh not like
15:38
or or smooth.
15:43
Well, okay, this question now
15:45
has changed a little because you seem pretty picky. But what is
15:47
your favorite restaurant in.
15:48
LA I
15:50
don't have one of my favorite restaurant in New
15:52
York, which I was just there's Coke co
15:55
Ote Korean.
15:57
It's like the only mission to Star Korean steakhouse
15:59
in the country. Fire Wow.
16:02
Have we tried to try the Kogi truck?
16:04
Do you know?
16:05
It's like this like Korean truck in La and
16:07
it's like Korean barbecue and it's like in Venice
16:09
like on ABACINNI like, oh, literally
16:12
the best food I've ever had it sincetat.
16:13
Oh yeah, if you like Korean barbecue.
16:15
And which NBA
16:18
fandom is the craziest to play.
16:19
Against to me, probably
16:21
the Knicks, just because I had like beef
16:24
with them for so long because like when
16:26
I was in Brooklyn the first time, they were ass.
16:28
So I used to troll them all the time
16:30
because.
16:31
You got to remember, like in terms
16:33
of prestige and franchise,
16:35
like of course the Nets and a little brother to the Knicks,
16:38
but we was really whooping the ass, you feel me, So
16:40
they would talk crazy and it's like, yo, y'all haven't been good
16:42
for a long time. So then when I got back
16:45
the tables, that kind of turned and they were giving
16:47
me hell.
16:47
Yeah yeah, I mean you didn't Spike ever get into
16:50
it?
16:50
No, No, me and Spike never got into it. I don't think Spike
16:52
was invested enough at the time because like.
16:54
They they weren't.
16:54
Yeah yeah, Like I don't have like thirty
16:57
point games in the Guard and stuff like walk
16:59
off dunks, and ship like, yeah they
17:01
weren't.
17:02
Yeah they suck In the next five
17:04
years. Who do you think is going to be the stace of the league
17:06
and why?
17:07
I hope it's Anthony Edwards because man, that boy
17:10
good. He's nice and
17:12
he's got a he's.
17:13
Got his personality. It's just like,
17:15
yeah, he's.
17:16
He's funny, but he's got like a streak to him where he
17:18
wants to take on the challenge.
17:21
Yeah.
17:21
I think a lot of guys, don't you know. I think a
17:23
lot of guys they'll play offense. So I played
17:25
the offense date like Anthony Edwards
17:27
game of line wants to stop the best guy.
17:29
Like, yeah, it's some of that old school
17:32
throwback Kobe type type.
17:33
Stuff or what you know, the
17:35
rumors about MJ being his dad? I
17:39
did.
17:41
So.
17:41
You played on five different teams in your career
17:43
with some pretty incredible teammates.
17:45
Can you give us your starting five of
17:48
your best ever teammates? Oh?
17:52
Man, uh.
17:55
Luca for
17:58
shows in there at
18:01
the one. Uh
18:04
Bron is definitely my four.
18:07
KDS, my three a
18:10
DS, my five. I
18:17
didn't really play with James.
18:18
You feel me like we on the same team, But I didn't
18:20
really play with him, So I mean I
18:22
would probably have to go
18:26
Kyrie.
18:26
At the two.
18:31
No, Jalen Brunson love.
18:37
Over over Kyrie's at two.
18:38
Yeah yeah, Like probably as a one,
18:42
I.
18:42
Might be able to give j B to nine I
18:44
think, you know, but as
18:47
a two, like I don't understand Kyrie
18:49
at the at the two is it's
18:51
tough. Like if Kyrie
18:54
was like six seven, it'd
18:57
be a it'd be a different style of conversation through
19:00
in Dallas.
19:01
Obviously, Jayn Brunson wasn't the same
19:03
player that he is now in New York. But could
19:06
you I know you only played with him for a year, but could you guys
19:08
see that like he had something like cooking
19:10
in him like he was going to be a star star.
19:13
I don't know if I don't know if I'm gonna go with star, but
19:15
like you definitely saw
19:17
it. I mean when we when he got
19:19
those Lucas style possessions when we were in the first
19:22
round against Utah, like we were beating
19:24
Utah without Luca.
19:25
You know what I'm saying.
19:25
Some of that is like that was running through him.
19:28
Yeah.
19:28
Yeah, like you know in
19:31
that series, obviously you could see like Okay,
19:34
this guy could really like run a team.
19:36
He could score at a big time
19:38
level. I think he had forty in one of the games. So
19:41
you just knew like some of that.
19:43
Obviously, it's also Dallas offense because like, man,
19:46
they they make it easy on the guard
19:48
over there.
19:50
Well just to let that, but
19:52
yeah, no JB. JB's cold. JB's
19:55
super cold.
19:56
Okay, So during your NBA career all
19:59
ten years, was been the hardest player you've had
20:01
to.
20:01
Guard, probably
20:05
prime James Harden s
20:07
Houston James Harden. Yeah, that's yeah,
20:09
because he was like.
20:11
I hope many seasons to understand what I'm saying, but
20:13
he was like fact quick, like.
20:17
No, I'm telling you, really strong
20:19
as hell, but he's like he was really quick.
20:22
So all that like like lawyer to
20:24
sleep, lawyer to sleep, tweet and tween tween
20:27
twins and they'd hit that sharp cross and if
20:29
he shifts you, he gets you on you know what
20:31
I'm saying, on his hip, You're not you're not
20:33
getting around him.
20:33
And then obviously we all know about the step back.
20:36
Yeah, he got the leg hitting the whole nine. It's four point
20:38
play.
20:39
And you know when you go back
20:41
five years or so, when he was
20:43
doing all that sweep through stuff.
20:45
They was conned every time.
20:46
Yeah, he gets like yeah, like now they
20:48
don't really give it to him and say skinny
20:51
er. I mean he wasn't ever skinny for real, but you
20:54
know, like he would do that. He didn't hit in
20:56
the game with twenty free throws
21:00
fifteen threes, yeah, you
21:02
know, taking.
21:04
Obviously not not made because that'd be insane.
21:06
Yeah, you know, so like, how are you gonna stop that shot?
21:08
P file Like he's gonna make eighteen out of twenty free
21:10
throws. He's already in a rhythm. If he makes seven
21:13
out the you know, twenty
21:16
or seven out to fifteen threes, he's already damn
21:18
at forty points. Yeah, it's crazy,
21:21
I hear you.
21:29
So now, obviously you're Lebron's teammate.
21:32
What is one behind the scenes thing that he's
21:34
done. It's really like show you like he's
21:36
just that great.
21:38
I think it's just a routine. Every day
21:41
he's locked in, ready to go. He's
21:43
always getting his work in. He's just
21:45
he's militant about it, more so than
21:47
anybody I've ever seen in my in my career,
21:50
and obviously I've been around a plethora
21:52
of great players, but he just seems to be
21:54
the most like diligent.
21:56
Yeah, like every single day.
21:59
Okay, Spender. So you know, like in a high
22:01
school yearbook where there's superlatives like who's
22:03
most likely to be president, who's most likely
22:05
to you know, be famous? Whatever? Me
22:08
and you were going to do some Lakers team superlatives.
22:11
Okay, so are you ready?
22:14
Okay?
22:14
Who is the most stripped Vanda?
22:18
That's obvious? Okay? Who is the best playlist?
22:24
Playlist?
22:27
Or like on the team bus, who's getting off?
22:29
I think a d might
22:31
get the US really does.
22:33
I wouldn't touch it that, Okay? Who is the best
22:35
golf game?
22:37
Are ye?
22:40
Who is the best crib? And it can't be Lebron
22:42
or yourself?
22:43
Not ad got the best crib? Like
22:46
Delo did that?
22:46
Backyard podcast says says,
22:49
like the White House different definitely
22:52
mine.
22:52
I mean I think it's cool.
22:53
I like this house. There's such good lighting.
22:57
I did it for the lighting.
22:58
But you
23:00
know that's always how I think. Like I'm I'm a taktok
23:02
mindset, you know, Like especially when I
23:04
walked in, I was like okay, and I already like started
23:06
taking selfies on the couch Yeah, who
23:10
is the team dad?
23:12
Team dad? Since
23:14
I've been around, probably gave
23:17
Vincent.
23:18
Really okay, yeah, not Bron,
23:20
Like I feel like as like the old Like
23:22
I know, he's like okay whatever, I know he yeah.
23:25
Bro kind of goofy like he
23:28
he can, yeah, jump
23:30
through generations and like I
23:32
think that's one of his best gifts too, Like he's very
23:34
smart, but he knows how to like bond
23:37
with a twenty year old is the same as your bond
23:39
with a forty year old, like speak the language
23:41
that he needs to speak to communicate his message.
23:43
It's it's actually pretty amazing.
23:45
Yeah, it's so cool. Okay. Lastly
23:47
for the supperlatives. Okay, this
23:49
is a multiple park questions. So is there
23:51
a Lakers team group chat? Who texts
23:54
on it the most? And what is it called?
23:58
Oh? Yeah, now there is. It's like, I
24:01
don't forget. It's forced. I
24:04
mean it's on my phone force four forty
24:06
dollars or some I don't know.
24:07
It is not exciting. I was really I really
24:09
wanted.
24:10
To eat something.
24:11
Yeah, I don't know what it is. Who texted
24:13
the most? I
24:15
don't know who gets ignored the most? Is ruly nobody?
24:18
I want to have what we gotta.
24:19
Say houses
24:22
English in texting.
24:24
Oh he texts me. He text English perfectly,
24:26
it's just when he speaks sometimes.
24:27
Yeah, do you text on it a lot?
24:31
I just got it.
24:32
Yeah. So it's like, yeah, the
24:35
new guy. Yeah, they have to
24:37
they had to add you. Everyone had to get the notifications.
24:39
But the chat like
24:41
that. Okay. Lastly, so this
24:43
podcast is called Sloan Nose. Okay,
24:46
so this next segment is called Sloan
24:48
Knows Your Game but to you. So I'm gonna ask you
24:50
trivia about yourself, Spencer, And
24:52
I feel like you're a competitive guy and you may think
24:54
that you're gonna be really good at this, but no one is good
24:57
at it, like really no one. And I know you're
24:59
really smart and I'm sure you have a good memory,
25:01
but I go deep. Okay yeah
25:03
yea. So Also another thing I
25:05
want to add is this is not like a complaining with
25:08
the ref situation, like I will tee you up and like this
25:10
podcast episode can be over, so
25:12
like you need to like you cannot complain
25:14
about the scoring. Like this is very much like I
25:16
mean, I'll give you sometimes, I'll give you like half
25:19
points. We'll see how that goes. Okay, what
25:22
was your high school GPA?
25:25
Uh? I think it was three
25:27
point four?
25:30
Actually, is three point two? Really? Over
25:33
one? Okay? In your first
25:35
ever college game, Colorado
25:37
beat Fort Lewis by how many points?
25:42
I'm pretty sure it was up by like a million in the game,
25:44
but maybe won by fourteen.
25:49
Okay, I'm gonna give you one more guess because the a million was
25:51
closer than the fourteen.
25:52
Yeah, thirty
25:55
two?
25:55
Oh okay, thirty five, thirty five, that's like I have
25:57
a point. So okay, you're at point five.
26:00
I guess In your sophomore season in Colorado,
26:03
how many games did you start?
26:06
That's got old?
26:07
Yeah, but how many games was that? Oh?
26:11
Shit?
26:14
The college season is usually if
26:16
you're good, you go like twenty
26:19
three and ten thirty
26:22
three?
26:22
Yes, hey, look
26:25
at.
26:25
That one point five points? Great?
26:28
Okay. In your first NBA season with the Pistons,
26:31
what was your season high in minutes?
26:35
My first shit, my first
26:37
season should have had the twenty point game.
26:39
So this
26:41
is no. I know, I know I'm saying. So that
26:43
means I at least hit thirty
26:46
minutes. Uh So I'm gonna
26:48
go with no,
26:50
no, no, I'm gonna go twenty eight.
26:52
Oh, so goes twenty nine that
26:54
Lake Hassidy. That's sweet. Credit, that's
26:57
pretty good. That was good. I gotta and
26:59
I could see like this and they were yell okay,
27:01
So like two points. I feel like that's like basically
27:03
where we're at in twenty
27:05
nineteen to twenty twenty. You average
27:08
the most points in your career with the nets. How
27:10
many points did do you average per game? But I want to be like exact
27:12
to the decimal, like my math
27:14
teacher would be, like, you have to wrap, you know, or else
27:17
it.
27:17
Does not count. I know roughly
27:19
what it was, but I'm
27:21
gonna go twenty point six.
27:24
Spetzer, Okay, yes that
27:26
is Rex.
27:27
I always say twenty one, so I remember it was open twenty
27:29
point.
27:29
Five, which I guess technically if you were
27:32
to round up, it would be twenty one, you know,
27:34
because we're both so smart. So we're doing so
27:37
we're like three points. Well, that's that's much better
27:39
than most people I've been doing. I mean,
27:41
even though you didn't go to Harvard, you have a Harvard brains.
27:44
Wow, that's that's score. I remember now
27:47
sixty hundred.
27:48
Yes, I saw that. There was an
27:50
article written in the Harvard Crimson about
27:52
how you out of fourteen hundred and can
27:54
you actually tutor me? I'm doing my suffering
27:56
now I need some tutoring.
27:58
Fun fact, I took that my freshman year high
28:00
school and took it again.
28:02
Oh my gosh.
28:02
That's why.
28:03
That's why I didn't take the twenty four hundred and one, because like by
28:05
my junior year, they said if I took
28:07
it again and then I have to do that one.
28:09
I was like, yeah, I'll just live at that score.
28:10
No, okay, how many threes?
28:13
Oh?
28:13
Sorry this season? How many threes did
28:15
you average per game? Or how many threes have you
28:17
averaged per game?
28:21
Uh? Taken or made?
28:23
No? Made two? Well
28:27
to the decimal.
28:28
Fucking one point
28:31
eight?
28:31
Yes, oh
28:33
my gosh. Yeah, it's the best well
28:36
nos trivia of all time.
28:37
Wow.
28:39
Okay, this well, we'll see you
28:41
a good memory. I think you can get this. You were drafted thirty
28:43
eighth in the twenty fourteen NBA draft.
28:46
Who was drafted thirty seventh and who was
28:48
drafted thirty nine.
28:53
Thirty seven was Deandrew Dames.
28:54
Yes, do you know where you went to college?
28:57
Uh?
28:57
You can't. Yes, he went to my eigh Oh.
29:00
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
29:02
Okay, thirty nine was
29:06
that.
29:08
I can get me?
29:10
Yes?
29:10
Can can you tell me where I went to college?
29:13
Yes?
29:13
There we go. Okay, two point six out of one,
29:16
two, three, four, five, six
29:18
six not Hey,
29:21
hey, hey, okay, this is crazy. It's crazy.
29:24
This is your last question. Okay, what
29:26
was your free throw percentage your rookie year?
29:30
It was high as yes, it was high as point
29:32
it was like.
29:35
Coult it take not but it was like ninety
29:38
one or ninety two or but to the
29:40
decimal ninety one
29:42
point two.
29:43
Okay, there's this has to be a cheat code.
29:45
Yes, that's crazy. Oh
29:48
my god, this is a slow nose left right
29:50
here. Listen, this is Spencer
29:53
knows. This is crazy. Now, Spencer for the
29:55
last question, who
29:57
do you want to nominate to be the next slow
29:59
nose?
30:00
Yes?
30:01
To beat me or just to do it?
30:02
To do it, and then maybe if you
30:04
want to be strategic about this, you pick someone
30:07
that wouldn't beat you. You know what I mean?
30:08
Oh, if I want to pick somebody that ain't gonna be baby, I
30:10
nominate Luca Doches.
30:12
Okay, I mean that is the good nomination. Luca. Don
30:14
Did you heard it right? Here people, spencered in
30:16
withity Luca. We're about to take that phone
30:18
call right out for this episode.
30:19
And if I want to nominate somebody that possibly could
30:21
beat me, Lebron James.
30:22
Oh what a great nomination. That's
30:24
so Look, we have actually never heard of that guy. I don't think
30:26
I can have him on. He's not like big enough as a guest.
30:29
I think he's not really there.
30:31
Yeah no, but you're you're
30:33
the Thanks guys, like, thanks
30:38
for listening. You can get links to my socials and
30:40
see behind the scenes fun from Spencer and I in
