A wild misconception about strip clubs is people think they’re unsafe - the reality is they’re one of the places I feel safest. In this episode, I leave work and I don’t see security waiting outside to escort me to my car; instead I see customers standing outside. I exclaim “Oh no - I’m scared!” The customers don’t understand why that’s a scary realization. I deconstruct why leaving a strip club alone is threatening and how violence against women/sex workers is an issue. Some men don’t understand that they’re a huge threat to women; it’s normal for women to feel unsafe. And that, to me, is a men’s issue that needs attention.
