500-500. They
1:48
were a military couple building a
1:50
family together. He
1:52
wanted to marry her. He was ready to be
1:54
there for her and the baby. She
1:57
loved the idea of having a whole family with
1:59
him. But
2:03
a violent crime would destroy their chance
2:05
at a happy ending. There
2:08
was what appeared to be gunshot wounds to
2:10
her chest area. A
2:13
staged crime scene indicates that the
2:15
subject had a plan to commit
2:17
the crime and had a plan
2:19
to make an effort to confuse
2:21
the investigation. The
2:23
search for the killer was struck across
2:25
the halls and unearthed a
2:28
myriad of scandals and secret love
2:30
affairs. She was maybe harboring
2:32
some type of hope that she could have
2:34
him to herself. They certainly are red flags
2:37
that there is some sort of danger in
2:39
this relationship. If he could not
2:41
have her, he was going to kill her. It
2:44
was the worst emotional and physical pain that
2:46
I have ever felt in my life. I
2:49
am a little crushing. Southern
3:05
Maryland is a quiet suburban
3:07
community nestled within the bustling
3:09
metropolis of Baltimore and Washington,
3:11
D.C. Fort George
3:13
Meade, Army base. It's been
3:15
there for a very long time. The
3:17
base is quite a
3:19
large base these days. Severin
3:21
is sort of the community that surrounds
3:24
the base. A lot of people
3:26
that work in the Army and the armed forces
3:28
live in that community. A
3:49
maintenance worker in a
3:52
townhome community had discovered an
3:54
open sliding rear door of
3:57
a townhome. It
3:59
was just odd. I don't think the maintenance
4:01
worker had any indication of who was
4:03
inside, but clearly recognized something wasn't
4:05
right. I thought that the best that the police check
4:08
it out. The
4:11
Anne Arundel County Police arrived. They
4:15
find an open door with
4:17
no one answering. So
4:19
initially, they don't know what they're dealing with.
4:21
You know, did someone just leave a door
4:23
open? Is this some
4:25
sort of robbery? Is it
4:27
something else? Is anyone there or
4:30
is anyone hurt? Does anyone need assistance? The
4:36
residence itself was like a
4:38
townhouse without a basement. Two stories, you know,
4:40
ground level. And then a second story where
4:42
all the bedrooms were. They decided to go
4:44
ahead and enter the apartment to check to
4:46
see if anything was going on. The
4:49
responding officers started to clear the downstairs area
4:51
and then they went upstairs. When
4:54
we went up the upstairs of the townhouse, they
4:57
looked at the master bedroom and then we saw
4:59
a body line on the floor. It
5:05
was apparent that the woman was
5:08
deceased. Upon
5:12
closer inspection, the officer realizes
5:15
there's a second victim. There's
5:19
not only was an adult
5:21
female lying prone on the floor,
5:24
the infant child was
5:26
cradled in her arms. When
5:30
the officer moved closer to
5:32
the individuals, the baby made
5:35
some movement and some sound and the
5:37
officer was relieved that the child was
5:39
alive. He
5:43
picked up the child and brought her
5:45
outside to the paramedics for, you know,
5:47
immediate assessment. Detectives
5:52
are immediately called to the scene.
5:57
The victim was on the ground. was
6:00
what appeared to be gunshot wounds to
6:02
the chest area. Obviously,
6:05
the consideration was that this was likely
6:07
a homicide situation. When
6:12
I responded to the crime scene, there's numerous
6:15
police cars and members of
6:17
the military responded to
6:19
the crime scene, specifically
6:21
Sergeant McDaniel. A
6:24
detective came over to talk to me and I'm
6:26
like, I have two female soldiers that live in
6:28
that apartment. What's going on? Sergeant
6:33
McDaniel informs detectives that
6:35
the residence belongs to
6:37
24-year-old Army Specialist Carlin
6:39
Ramirez. Sergeant
6:41
McDaniel also informed us that there
6:44
was another adult female roommate that lived
6:46
in the apartment, that her name was
6:48
Marissa. He
6:51
also stated that he knew the
6:54
roommate Marissa was away on vacation. He
6:58
was concerned because Carlin hadn't arrived at work
7:00
that morning. Based
7:03
on Sergeant McDaniel's statement, detectives
7:05
believe the woman inside the
7:07
townhome is Carlin. I
7:11
woke up to my phone just ringing
7:13
over and over. There was a police
7:15
officer on the phone and
7:18
I knew, I knew something bad happened. And
7:22
all I could ask was, is
7:25
she okay? Is she told me no? During
7:29
the investigation of Carlin's murder,
7:31
we resulted in her victimology.
7:42
Growing up in Del Rio, Texas,
7:44
Carlin Ramirez always understood the value
7:47
of family and tradition from a
7:49
young age. Carlin's
7:53
family was very important to
7:55
her. She always had
7:57
nothing but awesome stories to tell.
8:00
tell me. She went
8:02
to college for a few years, got her
8:04
associate's degree and then decided that the military
8:06
would probably be a better fit for her.
8:09
I think mostly because our mother
8:12
was in the military when she was younger
8:14
right before she had my sister, Carlin. And
8:17
then of course her aunt was also a
8:19
retired veteran from the military. So
8:21
she saw it as my family
8:23
did it. Maybe it's a good
8:25
fit for me. She wanted to see the
8:27
world. She wanted to help people. She just
8:30
had this hunger and this drive to want
8:33
to do better and want to be better and want to make the
8:35
world a better place for everybody. When
8:38
she deployed to South Korea in 2013, Carlin met the
8:40
man who would
8:43
change her life forever.
8:46
35-year-old chemical weapons specialist,
8:48
Malik Kearney. In
8:52
the military, he was highly
8:54
regarded and highly decorated
8:56
for the work that he did. He
8:58
earned several awards and was well thought
9:00
of by his colleagues in the military
9:03
and he took great pride in his
9:05
military service. Malik was
9:07
a lot older and more mature. Carlin
9:10
just thought that physically he was very attractive.
9:12
She would tell me she liked the way
9:14
that he held his confidence. He was a
9:16
very independent, very confident man. He
9:19
really knew what he wanted. She
9:21
felt completely ahead over heels for him. Malik
9:26
also fell in love with the beautiful 22-year-old
9:28
Carlin. After
9:33
nearly six months of dating, it
9:35
was clear to friends and family
9:37
that the relationship had grown serious.
9:42
She got home for Thanksgiving for
9:44
the first time and then she was like, hey,
9:46
I have a surprise. I'm pregnant. Shortly
9:53
after, Malik proposed and Carlin
9:56
readily accepted. Before
9:59
the couple had At the time to
10:01
get married, however, Carlin was reassigned
10:03
to Fort Meade, Maryland. Malik
10:07
was supposed to come over to Fort
10:09
Meade with Carlin so they could be
10:11
together and continue the relationship, but
10:14
his orders were denied. He
10:17
was sent to South Carolina while she was
10:19
so pregnant and she was living in Maryland.
10:24
On April 23, 2015, Malik joined Carlin and Maryland
10:29
for the birth of their daughter. We
10:33
walked in and you just saw the
10:37
biggest smile on Carlin's face and
10:39
how proud she was of her
10:41
sweet little precious daughter and
10:44
just was so ecstatic to show
10:46
off. Three
10:51
months later, Carlin and Malik tied
10:53
the knot. The four new
10:55
military roles were enforced that would
10:57
prohibit their relationship. They
11:00
got married mid-July in South Carolina.
11:02
Someone got ordained
11:04
and married them very quickly.
11:07
Their rush to get married was because she was
11:09
a lower enlisted soldier. He was a senior and
11:12
they had a timeline where they had to, you
11:14
know, put something on paper before it was not
11:16
allowed anymore. November of the year they got married
11:18
is when that rule changed. She
11:21
was just so happy. She was happy with her
11:23
baby. She was happy with
11:25
her man and she was happy that
11:27
he wanted to build a family, take
11:29
care of both of them. By
11:33
August 2015, Carlin
11:35
had returned to work. She
11:38
and Malik began making plans for him
11:40
to join her in Maryland. But
11:44
just a few weeks later, all
11:46
their dreams for the future come
11:49
crashing down in an instant when
11:51
police discover Carlin's lifeless body inside
11:53
her home. In
11:57
that bedroom, the bedding had been pulled. off
12:00
on the ground near where the victim was laying. It
12:03
was clear that some sort of confrontation had
12:05
occurred. When we first
12:07
looked at the victim, her underwear and shorts
12:09
had been sort of pulled down. The underwear
12:12
was around her knees area. There
12:15
was slight bruising on her as
12:18
well as scratches. We do
12:20
have to consider the possibility that
12:22
this was a sexual assault. Choosing
12:30
up, the search for a killer leads
12:33
police to confront someone close to
12:35
the victim. So
12:38
then, he has another... Detectives
13:00
in Severn, Maryland are investigating
13:02
the shooting death of
13:04
24-year-old Army Specialist Carlin
13:06
Rude. Carlin
13:08
was found on the floor of
13:10
her bedroom, cradling her four-month-old daughter,
13:12
who was left un-homed. This
13:18
murder shocked the community as
13:20
well as just completely surprised
13:23
and devastated her family. It
13:27
was the worst emotional and physical pain that
13:29
I have ever felt in my life. You
13:33
get waves of how it felt that day and
13:35
it was... At
13:43
the crime scene, Carlin's body is removed
13:45
by the coroner for autopsy and
13:48
detectives collect crucial evidence. There
13:54
was actually one bullet that was laying
13:56
on the floor in relatively short
13:58
order of firearms. experts from
14:00
Anne Arundel County were able to determine
14:02
that those bullets were fired from a
14:04
.357 caliber revolver. As
14:12
we continue to search the crime scene, we
14:14
located a condom wrapper in the
14:17
living room on the main level and
14:20
in the trash can not far from the
14:22
condom wrapper, we located a condom. These
14:27
things were all collected as evidence and
14:29
it certainly added to the possibility that
14:31
some sort of sexual assault had occurred.
14:34
We know that we have a forensic
14:36
process to look into that, which would
14:38
be done during the autopsy.
14:42
I'm hoping to gather more information about
14:44
Carlin. Detectives question
14:46
her supervisor, Sergeant Leroy McDaniel.
14:51
Sergeant McDaniel told me that her
14:53
husband, Milly Kearney, was actually stationed
14:55
in South Carolina
14:57
in Fort Jackson and
14:59
they were physically separated
15:02
due to their different
15:04
military assignments. But
15:07
Sergeant McDaniel's revealed that life for
15:09
the newlyweds was not as blissful
15:12
as expected. Detectives
15:15
learned that a month earlier,
15:17
Carlin had called with surprising
15:19
information. I
15:22
received a phone call at night
15:24
from Carlin and
15:27
Milly expressing that
15:29
Carlin had developed a physical relationship
15:31
with another soldier. Milly
15:38
was enraged upon learning about Carlin's affair.
15:42
He forced her to report it to
15:45
her line of command because it's
15:48
one thing that's not allowed. Sergeant
15:53
McDaniel's told detectives that he was
15:55
required to report the extramarital affair,
15:58
which carried a stiff-tied knife. under
16:00
the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
16:04
That subsequently led to a reduction
16:07
in rank and loss of pay for both
16:09
Mr. Mirez and the other service member. My
16:14
sister was stripped of everything that she earned because
16:17
of what she did. He was not
16:20
proud of her so far. It made her feel
16:22
terrible because it's not who she was as a
16:24
person. According
16:27
to Sergeant McDaniel, after the
16:29
demotion, Carlin and Malik's relationship
16:32
only continued to spiral. Once
16:36
you made her report herself, she
16:38
did still try to stick it out, but
16:41
he got more obsessive and
16:43
more demeaning toward her. Ultimately,
16:47
Carlin asked Malik for a divorce.
16:51
He would call her constantly, trying to convince
16:53
her to stay. Don't leave, don't leave. She's
16:57
like, no, I don't want this. I don't want this for
16:59
me. I don't want this for my baby. Carlin
17:03
Ramirez requested a no-contact
17:06
order be issued
17:08
by the Army against Malik Kearney. Malik
17:12
Kearney was to have no further
17:15
contact directly or indirectly with
17:17
Carlin Ramirez. She
17:19
put in the no-contact order, so he wouldn't just open her house.
17:21
She didn't want to deal with it. She said, I'm done. I'm
17:24
done with the whole relationship. Armed
17:28
with this new information, detectives head
17:31
to South Carolina to speak with
17:33
Carlin's husband on August 27th. Before
17:37
we arrived there, his commanding
17:39
officer in Chaplin advised
17:42
Malik that Carlin had passed away,
17:44
but they did not say what had happened there. When
17:50
Detectives sit down with Malik,
17:52
he appears devastated. Emily.
18:15
Seemed upset and. Ah he cries.
18:19
He said the he will cooperate. Fully.
18:51
With it as a family members
18:53
and his friends a contact Carlin.
18:56
To try to convince her to work on
18:58
their merits he was having a off and
19:01
the fact that she was humming annoyed with
19:03
his see. A. Book
19:22
Movie. He swears he would never harm
19:24
the mother of his child. When
19:28
detectors Eskimo league about his whereabouts
19:30
the day of Carlin's murder, he
19:32
provides and. He
19:56
was home. Alone. On.
20:14
It would have been a a
20:16
lengthy travel does a meeting at
20:18
work both days. Before
20:30
releasing, the league, detectives request
20:32
his cell phone and he
20:34
quickly complies. Moink
20:37
also offer that we can. Search his
20:39
car we can search his apartment
20:41
and allowed us to take dna
20:43
samples as. A
20:46
search of his car didn't
20:49
reveal anything of value. I
20:51
checked his Gps and did
20:53
not see any reason addresses
20:55
in Maryland. Well,
20:59
detectives and beliefs phone for forensic
21:02
examination. The next set their sights
21:04
on the man with whom Carlin
21:06
had become. Will move will
21:08
Imho. We
21:11
learn thats not only was she
21:13
involved with her a Strange Has
21:16
and Lily Kearney, she was involved
21:18
in a in our office romance
21:20
with another soldier who is married.
21:25
She's married, she married so please have
21:27
a look at him, find out if
21:29
he had some motivation to. When
21:34
detectors. Received a forensic results from
21:36
the condom collected at the. Crime
21:39
Scene. Their suspicions only
21:41
continue to grow. Ultimately,
21:44
we discovered that his dna was found
21:46
on for the pond. Instead
21:53
of Maryland, detectives have discovered that
21:55
twenty two year old Carlin
21:58
Ramirez was having an affair. prior
22:00
to her murder. The
22:03
day after her body was discovered,
22:05
detectives attend her autopsy. The
22:11
postmortem examination concluded
22:13
that Carla Ramirez was shot
22:15
three times. Any
22:18
one of those shots would have been
22:20
fatal, but two of the shots were
22:22
in her chest area. All
22:25
three were contact wounds. In
22:32
this case, the postmortem examination made
22:34
clear that there was
22:36
no sexual assault immediately prior to
22:38
her death. The
22:41
victim's underwear pulled down around her ankles.
22:43
It indicates a staged crime scene. The
22:46
person who committed the crime was
22:49
very methodical and was
22:51
trying to throw investigators off
22:53
of their sex. Points
22:57
away from a crime of opportunity or
22:59
a robbery gone wrong to a very
23:02
much premeditated crime. Detectives
23:07
immediately tracked down Carla's lover
23:09
and bring him in for questioning.
23:12
We went back and we
23:15
spoke with Carla's co-working individual
23:17
that she had a relationship
23:19
with. That
23:21
individual was devastated to
23:24
learn about Carla's passing. He was
23:27
overcome with emotion. The
23:30
sergeant told the police that he was an angry
23:32
at Carla and actually that the pair had been,
23:35
continued to see each other even after they were demoted.
23:38
There was still some talking between them and
23:41
seeing each other kind of in secret.
23:45
When detectives confront the man with the
23:47
DNA evidence, he tells detectives that the
23:49
last time he saw Carla was August
23:51
23rd, two days before she was found
23:54
murdered. We
23:56
did learn that he visited Carla's
23:58
house. and on
24:00
Sunday evening, he actually lived nearby.
24:03
They had an intimate encounter. That
24:05
encounter, according to him, was a
24:08
consensual encounter. We knew
24:10
from Carlin's roommate that they were dating
24:12
and Carlin had sought a babysitter that
24:14
evening for her baby. The
24:17
man tells detectives that the condom
24:19
found in Carlin's trash can was
24:21
thrown out after they were together
24:23
on August 23rd. He
24:26
was extremely cooperative. He
24:29
was forthcoming in his relationship
24:31
with her. He
24:34
provided his cell phone that he used
24:36
to correspond with Carlin. He
24:39
allowed us to search his car. He
24:41
allowed us to search his living quarters.
24:44
He wanted to assure us that he had nothing
24:47
to do with her death. When
24:50
detectives pressed the man about his whereabouts
24:52
the day before Carlin was found, he
24:54
claims he was at home all night. He
24:58
turned his cell phone over and he
25:00
consented to a polygraph. He did very
25:02
well in the polygraph and did not
25:04
show deception during the polygraph. His
25:07
cell phone showed his phone was
25:09
not anywhere close to Carlin. We
25:12
couldn't develop any evidence that he left his house
25:14
that night to go to Carlin's house. His
25:17
alibi checked out. They determined him to
25:20
be truthful in terms of what he said, so
25:22
we were able to eliminate him as
25:24
a suspect. Just
25:30
when detectives think they've hit another dead end, a
25:34
new lead surfaces. Going
25:38
through Carlin's cell phone, I
25:40
also learned that she recently
25:42
met another individual who
25:45
was in the military but
25:47
in a different state. However,
25:49
Carlin recently started to date
25:51
this individual. On
25:55
August 24th, the day before we discovered Carlin murdered, I saw a
25:57
man who was in the military. that
26:00
there was communication in Carlin's phone
26:02
that she was texting, asking him
26:05
to spend some time with her.
26:11
Detectives do immediately contact the individual
26:13
and bring him in for questioning.
26:17
He explains that he had hooked up
26:19
with Carlin a week earlier. Carlin
26:24
and I decided to go to Virginia
26:26
Beach to visit my family. It
26:28
was a night that we decided to have a
26:30
girls' night, a mom's night out. She
26:34
went on the dance floor and had a
26:36
dance off with some guy. He was
26:39
actually an old high school friend. They hit
26:41
it off. They ended up exchanging
26:43
numbers and they texted
26:46
me. He
26:48
confirmed that two days before they had
26:50
been together, the two decided to have
26:52
dinner and they were intimate at that
26:54
time. Carlin texted him
26:56
the next day and wanted him to come back so
26:59
they could be together again. He declined.
27:04
Carlin was seeking companionship.
27:07
She was very far away from her family
27:09
and her roommate was also
27:11
out of town and she
27:14
seemed to be a little lonely. The
27:18
second paramour was extensively
27:20
interviewed. He was found to be
27:23
truthful. It
27:25
was determined both from his cell-site
27:27
information from his telephone as
27:29
well as his account of the events
27:32
of the 24th of August. He
27:34
was not anywhere near Severn, Maryland at
27:37
about the time of her death. With
27:42
the investigation at a standstill,
27:44
detectives revisit Malik Kearney as
27:46
a possible person of interest.
27:50
They comb through his cell phone records
27:52
to confirm his whereabouts the night of
27:54
Carlin's murder. As
27:57
investigators accumulated data from
27:59
the... various service providers.
28:01
They ascertained that Sergeant Kearney's
28:04
telephone was indeed present in
28:06
South Carolina on the evening
28:09
of the 24th into the
28:11
morning of the 25th of August 2015. They were able
28:13
to identify the
28:16
closest cell
28:18
towers to his apartment and it
28:20
appeared to investigators that his phone
28:23
was in or nearby his apartment
28:25
at all times. They
28:33
discovered something alarming. There
28:37
was an application which was deleting data
28:39
from the phone. We
28:43
determined by evaluating his cell phone
28:46
that this wife app was
28:48
active during the time of
28:50
the murder and more so
28:52
the next day which is
28:54
the day that Carlin was
28:56
discovered. Having
29:00
a white app installed on your phone the
29:02
day that your wife is murdered is very
29:04
suspicious. Coming
29:09
up, as detectives zero in
29:12
on their primary suspect, another
29:14
affair comes to life. Their
29:17
relationship was very intimate
29:19
and powerful. They were
29:22
pointing the finger at her that she
29:25
was the person who actually killed Carlin
29:27
Ramirez. You

30:58
See site for details. It's
31:02
been two days since police in
31:04
Severn, Maryland discovered Carlin Ramirez
31:07
dead from an apparent homicide.
31:10
So far, her estranged husband, Malik
31:13
Kearney, has had a solid alibi.
31:16
But when detectives begin breaking down
31:18
his cell phone records, they discover
31:20
he had installed an app that
31:22
was deleting data from his cell
31:24
phone. Most
31:28
of the data had been wiped clean
31:30
from his phone. But forensic investigators
31:32
were able to recover certain deaths
31:34
and cases. We
31:37
learned through phone
31:39
records that there were a
31:41
tremendous amount of communication, text
31:44
message and calls to a
31:46
person labeled Dodo. When
31:51
we did the research on that number, we were
31:53
able to realize that it belonged to a woman
31:55
named Dolores Delgado. Delores
32:00
is a 30-year-old Army veteran
32:02
living in Merritt Island, Florida.
32:07
Delores Delgado was originally from New Mexico. She'd
32:10
been in the military and apparently served at least
32:12
a tour in Iraq. She
32:14
had since moved to Florida
32:16
after her departure from the
32:18
military to pursue a
32:21
career in the medical field. Hoping
32:26
to learn more about Delores' connection
32:28
to Malik, detectives
32:31
traveled to Florida to confront her.
32:33
I responded
32:35
to Delores' apartment and I introduced myself.
32:37
Her response was to the
32:39
effect of, oh, do you want
32:42
to talk to me about Malik? And
32:46
I told her, yes, I do want to talk to
32:48
you about Malik, actually. She
32:51
agreed to accompany us
32:53
to a local police station where we
32:55
could learn more about her and interview her.
33:01
Detectives sit down with Delores and
33:03
ask her to elaborate on her
33:05
relationship with Malik. She
33:08
starts by telling detectives that their relationship
33:10
began in 2008, six
33:13
years before Malik met Carlin.
33:17
Delores told me that she had
33:19
met Malik while they were deployed
33:21
together overseas. She and
33:23
Malik had been involved in
33:25
an on-again, off-again relationship over
33:28
several years. They
33:30
would seek each other out during different
33:33
training and try
33:35
to keep in touch through
33:37
Facebook and text messages, and
33:40
they often would visit each other depending on
33:42
where they were. Delores
33:46
Delgado described her relationship with
33:48
Kearney as being very complicated.
33:51
She was aware that he
33:53
had other women in his life, and
33:56
she also had other men in her life.
34:01
But Delores claims she never wanted
34:04
to come between Malik and his
34:06
wife, Carlin. Delores
34:10
stated that Malik
34:12
was trying very hard to get back
34:14
with his wife, Carlin, and that
34:17
she was actually providing relationship advice
34:20
so that they could succeed in
34:22
the marriage. When
34:27
she was confronted about what happened
34:29
and did she know anything about the
34:31
murder, she
34:39
said no, she didn't know about the murder,
34:41
and she didn't have anything to do with
34:43
it. She denied any responsibility or any knowledge.
34:48
Delores tells detectives that she had
34:50
been with Malik on August 24th. She
34:54
said that that night of the murder,
34:57
she was at his apartment and she
34:59
said he was there. I
35:03
asked her if Malik
35:05
borrowed her car and she
35:07
said that Malik had not, that Malik
35:09
was asleep in the bedroom. As
35:15
detectives hear Delores' statement, they
35:18
must consider one glaring detail
35:20
from Malik. Telling
35:23
the police that she was with Malik, that
35:25
contradicts what Malik had said, he had told
35:29
police that he had been alone. Before
35:36
releasing Delores, detectives seize her
35:38
phone. As they
35:40
scour the explicit messages, they
35:42
come across one from Malik
35:44
and it raises major concerns.
35:48
While reviewing the text messages
35:51
of Delores' phone, there
35:53
was a text message exchange prior
35:55
to the murder where Malik
35:57
texts her and says, Gun
36:00
is so dang loud.
36:05
The revelation that Dolores and Malik had
36:07
been discussing of Gun prompts
36:09
detectives to dig further into
36:11
Dolores' digital history. They
36:15
start with her social media accounts. And
36:19
looking at the social media postings recovered
36:21
from Dolores still on his phone, they
36:25
saw a reference to her sale of .357 caliber
36:28
ammunition. Investigators
36:33
were aware that the
36:36
murder weapon was a .357 caliber revolver. The
36:44
ammunition included a
36:46
photograph of a price tag in
36:48
the name of the business where
36:50
the ammunition came from. We
36:53
contacted that store and
36:55
learned that in fact
36:57
Dolores had previously owned a
37:00
.357 handgun. We
37:06
had linked Carlin Ramirez's
37:08
death to that gun. We
37:11
had linked that gun to Dolores
37:13
Delgado because she purchased it.
37:17
And we had the text messages from
37:20
Malik Kearney, no no, that
37:22
Gun is so dang loud. It
37:25
was a critical compilation of evidence.
37:31
As the investigation was going on, we found
37:33
out that Malik Kearney had moved from Fort
37:36
Jackson, had sought a transfer to Texas.
37:40
And we found shortly after that, Dolores
37:43
Delgado moved to the same area of
37:45
Texas. And so we realized they were
37:47
together, they were in close proximity, and
37:51
felt that we needed to take action quickly. arrest
38:00
Dolores Delgado and Malik Kearney
38:02
in San Antonio, Texas. The
38:06
grand jury returned an indictment
38:09
against Malik Kearney and Dolores
38:11
Delgado for interstate
38:13
travel to commit domestic
38:15
violence resulting in the death of
38:17
Carla Ramirez and
38:19
the use of a firearm in her death. The
38:23
arrest of Malik Kearney and
38:26
Dolores Delgado made national news.
38:28
The national news coverage benefited
38:31
investigators significantly because it caused
38:33
a witness to come forward
38:35
in Florida who knew
38:38
Dolores Delgado. The
38:43
witness claims that Dolores had asked
38:45
him for help discarding a gun
38:47
in late August He
38:52
said they disassembled a revolver,
38:54
attempted to destroy the serial
38:56
number on that revolver and
38:59
then threw the parts of the
39:01
gun into the water off this
39:03
fishing pier. The
39:07
witness leads detectives to the Banana
39:09
River where he claims Dolores disposed
39:12
of the gun. Fortunately
39:16
it was not too deep in that
39:18
area so the four pieces were recovered.
39:22
The FBI lab were able to establish
39:25
that it was in fact the same
39:27
serial number of the revolver
39:29
that Dolores had purchased from that gunshot.
39:34
They were able to take the barrel
39:36
from that gun, they actually attached it
39:39
to a new gun to conduct
39:41
test fires, bullets that
39:44
were fired down that barrel
39:47
for the same signature marks of
39:49
the bullets that were recovered at the scene. and
40:00
Sybours Delgado, but without Malik's
40:02
cooperation, authorities fear they'll face
40:05
a she said, she said
40:07
at trial. I
40:10
100 believe that they needed each other to
40:12
complete this. I don't think that either one
40:14
of them would be courageous enough to pull
40:16
the trigger or fight themselves. They
40:19
did it because they had each other and when
40:21
they came down to it, and they had to
40:23
because they believed each other, which is exactly
40:25
what happened. In
40:37
October 2016, investigators have arrested Delores
40:39
Delgado and
40:43
Malik Cuny for the brutal
40:45
murder of 24-year-old Carlin Ramirez.
40:49
Hoping to solidify their case
40:51
against Malik, authorities decide to
40:54
give Delores an opportunity to come.
41:00
We spoke with Delores Delgado. We gave
41:02
her a snapshot of the evidence
41:04
that we had accumulated against her
41:07
because we believed that she was
41:09
an accessory in a critical
41:11
part of the crime, but we
41:13
did not believe that she pulled the
41:16
trigger and executed Carlin Ramirez. We believed
41:18
Malik Cuny did that. She
41:22
agreed to tell the truth. She agreed
41:24
to testify against Malik Cuny if
41:26
necessary. As
41:31
detectives listen, Delores offers a
41:33
full confession. She tells
41:35
them that on the afternoon of August 24th,
41:38
she arrived at Malik's apartment according
41:41
to his direction. Delores
41:45
provided the firearm, the ammunition,
41:48
and her vehicle. Malik
41:52
asked Delores to stream movies and use
41:54
his cell phone while he was gone,
41:56
so it appeared that he was home
41:59
the whole time. time providing
42:01
an electronic alibi. He
42:04
then took Delores's car and drove
42:06
to Maryland. According
42:11
to Delores, when Malik returned to
42:13
the apartment early the next morning,
42:15
he gave her a play-by-play of
42:17
the murder. Malik
42:21
described to her he
42:23
let himself inside Carlin's house
42:25
by using a key that he already
42:27
had and was met
42:29
by Carlin and he
42:32
forced her to go upstairs. Delores
42:35
said that Malik told her that while
42:37
he was there that Carlin tried to
42:39
fight him and tried to fight the
42:42
gun away and his first
42:44
shot missed her
42:46
and the rest of his shots. We
42:53
pulled down her underwear and took off her pants to make it
42:55
look like there was some sort of sexual
42:58
assault. He placed
43:00
a baby in her arm
43:02
and then he headed out the back door.
43:08
I think Delores was maybe harboring
43:11
some type of hope that if
43:13
Malik killed his wife that somehow
43:15
he would come back to home.
43:17
That she could have him to
43:20
herself. The nature
43:22
of the relationship is difficult to understand and
43:24
was toxic in such a way that together
43:26
they would plan the murder of
43:29
Carlin Ramirez. Delores
43:33
Delgado entered a plea of guilty
43:35
to conspiracy to commit interstate travel
43:37
to commit a crime of violence
43:40
against Carlin Ramirez. A
43:43
guilty plea was accepted by the court and
43:46
then we prepared for trial against Malik
43:48
Kearney alone. On
43:52
July 16, 2018, the trial against
43:56
Malik Kearney begins in federal
43:58
court in Baltimore. The
44:00
prosecution's star witness is
44:03
Dolores Delgado. Dolores'
44:07
testimony was very powerful to the
44:09
jury. It
44:11
showed essentially this control that he
44:13
had over women. In this
44:16
case, they wanted this control over Carlin. He
44:19
truly didn't want anybody else to have Carlin, and
44:21
that she wasn't giving in, so he decided to
44:23
kill him. Despite
44:29
Malik's defense team attempting to shift blame
44:31
solely to Dolores, on August 9, 2018,
44:34
the jury sides with the prosecution. Malik
44:41
Cairny was found guilty by the jury
44:43
of both counts. The
44:47
interstate traveled to commit domestic violence
44:49
against his wife, Carlin Ramirez, and
44:51
that violence resulted in her death.
44:55
As well as the use of a
44:57
firearm in that domestic violence charge causing
44:59
the death of Carlin Ramirez. Malik
45:03
Cairny was sentenced to life without
45:06
parole, plus 10 years. Dolores
45:10
Delgado was sentenced to 17 years, plus 4.
45:19
It really is a terrible thing. It's a
45:21
pain you have to live with forever. We
45:23

45:26
our lives. It dimmed all
