0:52

Rumors Pritchard Bruce was go no matter

0:54

0:58

Great. Mood

1:00

and ninety degrees. Now. Because.

1:03

You. But. I. Got my

1:05

my claw we have a god will

1:07

1:09

1:12

Got my God will all. What? Does that

1:14

1:18

size of my hair. Out

1:34

big grey. Baking. Of

1:36

1:39

that. People. Can stream

1:41

the own claw Now I've seen a lot

1:43

of people posting that they have finally seen

1:45

it. I don't know that we got

1:47

your official. Verdict: On.

1:50

The. Ric Flair. For. Trail

1:52

because I felt like that was

1:54

maybe the most controversial thing. That's

1:57

all. monstrous. like variants, people. Did.

1:59

Nothing. The guy that a great job is Rick

2:01

Flair. What's the you. Yeah.

2:04

I was or warriors or was. Very.

2:06

Ric Flair but then feel if you want to

2:08

get into. The. Horrible trails itself. It

2:10

is what someone looks like and

2:12

or sounds like are the best.

2:15

You. Get into the kids and all that stuff.

2:17

But. I thought it. Again,

2:19

it's a movie, right? It's it's

2:21

movie. It's not a ah. The.

2:24

Is not a factual depiction

2:26

Events that. Some. Of

2:29

them happened Yes, but you

2:31

know he was com. Or

2:35

was conceived Goes: they are cheap Actually

2:37

that was Shovel Guerrero and if you

2:39

got lost he was the iron sheik.

2:41

Ah, But. Is that time

2:43

he was Hussein Ah. Survivor

2:46

Series. I'm. So.

2:49

Yeah, I was lucky. Man

2:51

it's a movie. It's. A

2:54

movie. It was a drama. It was

2:56

a drama about a tragic family. Were.

2:58

Just dealt with. One.

3:00

Hit after another after another

3:02

after another on the writ

3:05

flirt guy am also saw

3:07

football. I think he

3:09

could have found about a hundred more

3:11

that could actually do. You know oh

3:13

is actually do risk. Ah,

3:16

maybe you know that didn't look like

3:18

I'm even. The guy was gather in

3:20

love. With

3:22

Alabama or Sultan the. You

3:26

know the gather the the worked his way

3:28

onto the. On our show

3:30

that time we were there. Oh.

3:34

Enigma. Talk about the fake Rick Flair. Oh.

3:37

You. Think he's in Georgia. You're talking

3:39

about nature. Been a Raleigh? Yeah, whatever.

3:42

He can learn a better job while.

3:45

I. Mean the nearby you can life be

3:47

a covenant better says the guy said

3:49

they got. But. Easy you will

3:51

get It was a movie map of

3:53

the free birds. ah they look good

3:56

Yes! and it was in a movie

3:58

about wrestling vs. The movie

4:00

about a family the dealt with

4:02

tragedy that was ruled by Iran

4:04

or father the demanded that his

4:06

kids do what he wanted them

4:08

to do and. Not. All

4:10

of them necessarily wanted to do

4:13

it. And it

4:15

was just a tragic story at in that

4:17

sweaty that you have to look at a

4:19

gone in the going into for roughly movie

4:21

you're going to the wrong movie. Oh

4:25

we heard of you're looking for facts are gonna the

4:27

wrong movie but still. Hollywood.

4:29

For trails nine other yeah it's funny that

4:31

are. I mean how many movies you think

4:33

unison in our lifetime where we would see.

4:37

A. Little thing at the very beginning. the says based

4:39

on a true story. As. And

4:42

technically this was very much. Based.

4:45

Or users story. But now that

4:47

you and I know so much

4:49

more about this particular subject, It

4:51

does bring into question every other movie I've ever

4:54

seen whereas is based on a true story because

4:56

we know. Sit. A larger

4:58

audience? Maybe those are little details, but to

5:00

and I as wrestling nerds would be like

5:02

hey, that's pretty big thing there so it

5:04

makes me wonder. like all those other movies,

5:06

right? Oh, and I see

5:09

the world. So for example, walking

5:11

tall, Move. About be

5:13

a purpose or his life. The

5:15

first walking tall came out with seven. Was.

5:19

Fairly accurate. Completely

5:22

actor. Bizarrely accurate. As far

5:24

as the. Battles.

5:26

That do purpose or went through his share

5:28

of their in Tennessee. and yes he did.

5:30

Russell. Briefly for a time before

5:33

he moved Tennessee and sheriff is

5:35

why. did like traveling. But.

5:38

My what would my oldest brothers new

5:40

Buford bus. Of

5:42

so it was. Some.

5:45

Of it was true, some of that wasn't

5:47

but it was based on his life story.

5:50

Fast forward. To. Walking tall

5:52

with the rock. Now.

5:55

I'm so they're talking the rock and go hey

5:57

man don't walk tall us like one of my

5:59

all time. They. The movies ever.

6:01

Please. Man acid is states and stuff

6:03

but he here pop up ads and

6:06

that's where I really got the edge.

6:08

Case was with. Bruce.

6:11

Is. Based. On.

6:15

The. Movie walk into All

6:17

Right It's Bay which was

6:19

based on a guys like

6:21

use. Can. Be a

6:24

completely different patrolman. is gonna be different.

6:26

Can. Be based on the same same

6:29

scenario if you with. But.

6:32

It's going to be based in modern

6:34

times like a Buford lived in. I'm

6:36

in the nineties of the early two

6:38

thousand. And was

6:40

so pissed. When.

6:42

I saw it first. And. I

6:45

told was rude was walking tall. As.

6:48

Yeah, sorry about that math. But. Then

6:50

I watch it in. I think that it is

6:52

really one of. The. Most fun! Rock.

6:54

Movies Are You Done and I actually enjoy it

6:57

and watched every time that is on Now. And.

7:00

Then last night. Get

7:03

home and ah, You. Don't

7:05

have Mercy is. A jug

7:07

mary is. Not. Embarrass the

7:09

of the gong show okay, the

7:12

newlywed game, the dating game ago.

7:14

Case. Chuck Barris. Ah for for old

7:17

timers like me who remember the gong

7:19

show with. D S in the see

7:21

that and at at. Young and silica.

7:24

So. I was which were friends where's

7:26

was guys first introduced me to the unknown

7:28

com it it was a comic the Lore:

7:30

a sack on his head to set your

7:32

eye holes and mouth. And.

7:35

Took verse, wrote a book about his

7:37

life. Oh no.

7:39

a bar fi the he talked of

7:41

ah. That. He was also

7:44

Cia agent. The. Kill people

7:46

for live. A while. He

7:48

was producing. The newlywed

7:51

game. The. Dating game and

7:53

the gong show in many others.

7:55

A very successful produce route Hollywood.

7:58

And. Some you're like

8:00

people just didn't know what to believe. As

8:03

you would disappear for weeks and that. Com.

8:06

And come back. And we were were

8:08

even shop. Yeah. This year

8:10

has I as weird guy. On,

8:13

but I was always a bit fairly. Big.

8:16

Fat. And. Watching this movie and

8:18

once. How the hell did

8:20

I miss? This is loaded with stars.

8:22

Man in season. One. Reason

8:24

it? Julia Roberts isn't it?

8:27

I'm it is. It's loaded with

8:29

Sars. As a how the hell with this

8:31

will be slip by me on the. Gators.

8:35

Back when. You're. People into theater

8:37

watch movies, And phases of

8:39

a dangerous Mind. That's. It. George

8:42

Clooney, Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore. I'll check

8:44

that out. I'm gonna have plenty of

8:46

us are it's It's interesting you know,

8:48

but losing a more interesting if you.

8:51

Like. Where it's at Versailles and but it

8:53

is the isn't see movie because of. Months.

8:57

Of it are very true yes.

8:59

The. Part. About being a

9:01

Cia agent he's he said he has

9:03

come out and said i know that's

9:06

true. The made it up. Then

9:08

there's other. Times where he just won't

9:10

answer. Sources

9:12

leaves you wondering okay, did he.

9:15

Say. It's not true because really?

9:17

is. ah, say your name?

9:19

Yes, So yeah there is

9:21

Man And he was absolutely

9:24

ah. If you watch the

9:26

show you watch dogs are you policy man

9:28

this guy's a coke V was you may have

9:30

been which he did not talk about movies

9:32

I didn't see. the last may be wasn't. Ah,

9:35

Me maybe was just crazy. Some.

9:37

Of the select anyway without the. Cooking.

10:11

Days. Away. As

10:13

10:16

here in America. Don't.

10:18

Have one of the biggest favor views of

10:20

the year elimination Chamber. Well actually it's can

10:22

take voices if you watch it live. On

10:25

Saturday Spidey. By.

10:28

The Am Eastern. As

10:31

for Am Central. S

10:34

Three am. Known.

10:38

As a festive am. Ah,

10:41

Our list goes on. Just calling it

10:43

10:48

Folks, My. Pillow. To me,

10:50

yeah it's it's it's it's a

10:52

different world and dummied of you.

10:54

He is our a global property.

10:57

And. I will. I like that they're doing it this

10:59

way. I mean, I know you weren't. There are summer

11:02

slam on it too. But. As I understand

11:04

that that aired on a delay. And

11:06

I'll know love is just more fun when. I.

11:10

Was much more fun are much more dangerous. Yeah.

11:13

There's. Nothing in the wrong if it's like. Oh

11:16

yeah, many times, if any. turn.

11:19

The. To to fit something nothing's in the

11:21

wrong was misshapen. Well.

11:23

A lot of things are meant to

11:25

happen this weekend. Elimination Chamber is looking

11:28

pretty strong. We are Drew Mcintyre vs

11:30

Randy Orton vs Bobby Lashley vs L

11:32

A Nine vs Kevin Owens vs Logan

11:34

Paul. And they're all battling

11:36

it out. And saw the Elimination Chamber for

11:38

the right to take on Seth Rollins at

11:41

Wrestlemania. The. Women's elimination

11:43

chamber. Is. Becky Lynch

11:45

vs Bianca Bel vs Live

11:47

Morgan versus Tiffany Stratton Roll

11:49

Tide. Vs Naomi vs

11:52

Were Kill Rodriguez. And will

11:54

get some new blood in there. I mean this

11:56

is the first Big Tom of if that Tiffany

11:58

Stratton. Others. Use a surprise. The

12:00

rumble butter. And Nxt just

12:02

moving on up Poland for her.

12:04

and. Or. Care Rodriguez little thinks he's been

12:06

in the mass like this before. This will be fun.

12:09

And. The winner will take on. The.

12:11

Winner of that Real Replete Naya Jax

12:13

match which is also happening and Elimination

12:16

Chamber. For. That title at Wrestlemania.

12:18

So. Pretty. Loaded card including

12:20

the Judgment Day defending the

12:22

Tag titles against. The

12:25

new Test Republic. And

12:27

maybe the thing I'm looking forward to the

12:29

most? The Grayson Lawler effect. Will.

12:31

Have our boy Cody Rhodes

12:33

and Seth Rollins. As

12:35

you go about lot of momentum this is a

12:37

fun paper view. The. Road to Wrestlemania

12:39

as gonna continue to get more and more

12:42

entertaining. A have a feeling Bruce would say

12:44

it's a fun time we have the business

12:46

of I think that this was gonna be

12:48

one of those goes as it is going

12:50

to sleep or on the outside. the my

12:52

roommate I'm in the. But. I

12:54

think it's going do over deliver. Ah

12:57

sweet! Gum or to do other things

12:59

can be awful often. We watch

13:01

now get enough. I'm getting up. At

13:04

four thirty when asked? my sweet life.

13:07

Do. Get up

13:09

with me and to make me some

13:11

breakfast to like and. That

13:13

their my recliner and that my arm and

13:15

ninety degrees like that. And. Then I

13:18

can now watch the show and then all the

13:20

back to it. Will.

13:22

Actually are probably text little bit and. Tell.

13:26

The truth. Against

13:28

the only time you were kind

13:31

of Loki excited about having a

13:33

try serpent shoulder replacement because technically

13:35

his hand flawed. Twenty five hours

13:37

there and twenty five hours back.

13:39

he saved yourself. Fifty.

13:42

Hours Now I would. I really would

13:44

have. Were. I would really

13:46

much rather be there. You love us

13:48

are either Every jose I do love

13:50

Australia. I absolutely love Australia. And.

13:53

I do wish. That. That

13:56

I can. Kill. Been on, been

13:58

there and you know that I'll. The took.

14:01

To six hour flights. Hills

14:04

that either that know. How

14:07

the whom? A helicopter something landed on

14:09

my house? Ah I'm. But.

14:11

Oh. I took to

14:14

six hour flights in the twenty four hour

14:16

period. so twelve hours are set on planes.

14:19

I'm yesterday and I'm I'm.

14:22

Is. So beyond. A.

14:24

Blaze of in the think that was

14:26

swollen now man it was like I'm

14:28

not city the city was archaic a

14:31

catcher's mitt. yeah the make it would

14:33

combine with my hands of to. Have.

14:35

Your hands out where yeah they go know my

14:37

head. as with a little much asset believe the

14:40

gonna call it was he called it to me.

14:44

He referred to your hand. He said i've got. A. Certain.

14:48

Type of hand. Turkeminstan.

14:52

And. Co or employ them as I am Ct

14:54

that. Pay. Before

14:56

we get going on was com. Where.

14:59

I really don't know I'm talking about either because

15:01

you know we did a poll a couple before

15:03

like these. I know you do. You

15:06

know, boys and girls. We have a whole team

15:08

folks who help us behind the scenes and I'm

15:10

a podcast over here. We are people who help

15:12

us for you to people who help us for

15:14

social and people who help us. I. Gave

15:16

Silver. He's our producer for the show so he's

15:19

doing the cameras were he doesn't really help us

15:21

or even years of spices. Okay, just let me

15:23

get this thought out of the same. we are

15:25

a lot of people poland in the same direction

15:27

working on the same stuff and then. Occasionally

15:30

the star of the show will pop his

15:32

head up. I don't know. Maybe.

15:35

Like the ground hogs. Wants. To hear.

15:37

And he'll say hey now, ah, whatever for

15:40

tomorrow morning first thing and I target about

15:42

that. I want to talk about this and

15:44

so that's what we're doing today. We.

15:47

We did a poll a few weeks back

15:49

about tag teams dudley one nasty same and

15:51

seconds on Canada and Will do the nasties

15:53

and within the winners And he realized net.

15:56

I. Want to talk about booking? And.

15:58

So we're going to be talking about this, something

16:00

that we have teased for years. I actually get

16:02

questioned about this at least once a month for

16:05

the past several years. When. You get

16:07

to talk about the evolution of creative. Well.

16:09

I guess this will be like part one

16:11

of that because. I'm sure there will

16:13

be I a whole lot of conversation about

16:15

the evolution of creative inside of every the

16:17

V. but today. Or. Travel around

16:20

the country and talk about the

16:22

different booking philosophies and mentalities. From.

16:25

The heads of the major fire families

16:27

moment often by the mob. I'm talking

16:29

about territory wrestling. What? Little

16:31

Me a slinky were because you're years

16:33

your sit and will. Okay Bruce Gallo

16:35

and here. Oh. Up

16:38

as behind and says wanna do that You

16:40

know this out or the other but. Inside

16:44

the leave. Give. You a little

16:46

bit of a background so. Ah,

16:50

Cm. Punk the I'm I'm giving

16:52

you information on provision but. You.

16:54

Know the Cm Punk. We we spent a

16:57

weekend. Here. Are. In

16:59

Connecticut when he. First. Came

17:01

back and he came over the house

17:03

and we went through like this. left

17:05

the roof. Of stuff in the

17:08

other room over there and. He

17:10

wishes asking somebody questions about, you

17:13

know. You're. Booking Booker's Who was

17:15

this and who's that? Why? Why did

17:17

they do to do it this way?

17:19

Why they do that waste and I

17:21

had. Some. Appalls old booking

17:24

books from the forties. And

17:26

establish you as. Yeah.

17:29

And he was just going through it. Mesmerize

17:32

and and probably would still be here

17:34

if I didn't to come out. Ah,

17:37

But that was kind of the is the

17:39

genesis of it. Was.

17:43

Yield We've we've never really just

17:45

gonna got into people people think

17:47

they understand or if. You. Know

17:49

what a book or is or what are what. The

17:52

business was like. Back.

17:54

Then in back then it was even him

17:56

a. Million. Times

17:59

More Death. The

18:01

get into and actually get into

18:03

the inner workings and the be

18:05

able to. Get. Into the

18:08

mind. Of. The

18:10

guy that really was running things,

18:12

who's really putting all those matches

18:14

together and angles together and bringing

18:16

in the talent and what have

18:18

you. And I had a very.

18:22

Innocent way. Because.

18:24

It was killed. And I

18:26

was hanging around with the swash. They knew that

18:28

like I worked there. I don't think. A

18:31

lot of times, you know, It.

18:33

Least at first realized how young

18:35

I was. But.

18:38

They wouldn't. Use. Me

18:40

as a sounding board. To.

18:42

Users so ideas at me I would have

18:45

we did this. What if we get that?

18:47

And did you like did you like that? It.

18:50

Is it that really? You know this

18:52

crowd often often or with was crowd

18:54

really happy under for thing for that.

18:57

In I learned. In a

18:59

way that was different than most.

19:02

Because. I I actually got to

19:04

young. Ah, You'll.

19:08

Pick the walks up at the airport. Guilty:

19:10

Gary Hart. You. Know the coast that something

19:12

is jack in the box. And.

19:16

Just had time. To

19:18

be able to. In. An

19:20

innocent way. Know he

19:22

is a really didn't know was spotted business

19:25

ask them questions. And

19:28

lock and on. I'm if if I

19:30

wasn't he jumped up and had a

19:32

long record I would walk in the

19:34

see the actual rain were. Ah,

19:37

As I walked in from first time I saw.

19:40

All. Bosh. Gary. Hart.

19:42

And. Bronco Lubitsch. Huddle.

19:45

Around a. Ah

19:47

great! And. I'll I'll

19:49

take a picture of a sense of days

19:51

can insert it here. Ah,

19:53

and they had. These

19:55

clay. Figures. And they had

19:58

the clay figure tied up in the ropes and hanging. Backwards

20:00

and Fury was explaining. And.

20:02

Will he was bruiser Brody. Was.

20:05

Going to hook his leg and wrote like

20:07

this manner then he comes back in his

20:09

hagan like this therefore to go anywhere that's

20:11

where we get the Dq. Now.

20:15

Much. As I would walk in with

20:17

coffee drinks who sought talking but it

20:19

mesmerize me that they were playing. With.

20:23

What? I consider toy wrestlers and toy

20:26

wrestling ring to lay out a

20:28

finish. Glad. That he these

20:30

matches. Oh. My. God.

20:32

This. And

20:34

it was one of those ah ha moments. That.

20:38

I just you know a hump I hung

20:40

onto forever because I thought of man they

20:42

do this every issue every week for their

20:44

bag. They are these closed door meetings I

20:46

get toy wrestlers ago. This is gonna get

20:48

it like this that he's been of like

20:50

that. As. That

20:53

was true, but that that was. A

20:56

half of that one time that happened that

20:59

time Unison in the i have a do

21:01

25:44

25:47

So let's talk about the different territories and

25:49

I guess all star. You. Know I

25:51

will go left or right. We'll talk about Nano

25:53

and based on a Oregon. Dawn.

25:55

Was a promoter for over sixty

25:58

years. Probably. One of the law. This

26:00

running territories and promoters. I.

26:03

Mean and when. Super well respected

26:05

Pacific Northwest thing Or and in

26:07

the Pacific Northwest Wrestling. Was.

26:10

One of the. Cornerstones.

26:12

of the in the be way tell us about dunno.

26:15

Yeah, wasn't.over in. Portland.

26:17

Seattle, Ghana, and in the whole

26:19

northwest. Part. Of

26:22

the state's didn't necessarily go when

26:24

to Northern California says more. Roy

26:26

Shires and. What? Have

26:28

you and Donner ran a

26:30

solid. Territory. You.

26:33

Could go there and you could work towards every

26:35

night. And you made you made

26:37

more money. You get rich. Lose.

26:39

Your buddy Roser right Piper. But even

26:41

then they didn't get super rich. Ah,

26:43

but in a month and they made

26:45

city money. And Dawn was

26:48

one of those guys. He he

26:50

liked to have control. He would

26:52

take input, From guys.

26:54

That he trusted. People

26:56

like Sand stays Yak would would advise

26:58

him it and I don't know the

27:00

town necessarily until later in life. Ever

27:04

really had? You know, a. Booker

27:06

all the time. He. Would

27:09

have somebody would trust. He has his brother

27:11

else to raise Eugene, Oregon I believe that's

27:13

correct and Elton. Would.

27:15

Book: Eugene. And Elton was

27:17

kind of guy. Elton loved. The.

27:20

The shoot. Gay. To

27:22

belt would have one match. Every.

27:25

Show. Where. He would. Add. The

27:27

guys go out now I guess. Go on

27:30

every match and. Yeah,

27:32

whoever wins gets an extra

27:34

twenty bucks. Whatever. A

27:37

have guys. Seat. Well.

27:40

the boys being boys course nor think it

27:42

first some on bit into in those of

27:44

isles got an a want to twenty bucks.

27:47

Will. Then they figured out that hey we got their

27:49

work, the shoe and will split the money. Ah,

27:54

In later years is exactly what they are.

27:56

they all did you know now they get

27:58

they Tom was why. The shooter

28:01

champion for like. Three

28:03

or four weeks and he would trade. It was. After

28:05

an Alien, Brett Sawyer and for guys

28:07

and they would go back and bought

28:09

a few How to each other Our.

28:13

But. You're. In later

28:15

you in later years ago. I.

28:17

For helped. With. Book but

28:20

He Rose was a huge

28:22

star. That. Match. Your

28:24

you talk about. Tude.

28:26

Starts Territorial Stars and I think

28:29

Body Roses one of the most

28:31

overlooked. Mega territorial

28:33

sar that ever was, but

28:36

he. Was. Duel Ric Flair

28:38

Before Ric Flair, you knew what they'll

28:40

rip. Flair was right. Body.

28:42

Was a. Limousine, Ride

28:45

Shit lion son of a gun.

28:47

Always young. Had a gaggle of.

28:50

Beautiful. Women with him. But.

28:52

He actually. Got. A

28:54

plane and flew from town to town. In

28:58

the territory. And

29:00

lived his gimmick. The

29:02

Hill. So.

29:05

Body would help. His

29:07

own stories, man. And he railed bring

29:09

guys in because guys came in and

29:11

they saw the success of the territory

29:13

doing well. So you

29:15

call the top guy so when

29:18

buddy was the top guy with

29:20

that take responsibility of keeping. The.

29:23

Territory. On. Topic:

29:25

keeping the territory ha. So.

29:27

Buddy would suggest that hey what if we bring

29:29

this game for? Bring that guy and I support

29:32

the program with. That. Savage was

29:34

another one that that helped out quite a

29:36

bit up there. Rip Oliver. Else.

29:38

With. The booking up there

29:40

was a mainstay in I got. I

29:42

remembered how Rips. Gimmick.

29:44

Was was like the Top Gun. Gimmick.

29:47

May gun then skip. But

29:50

he wore a mask and then you know he took

29:53

it off. And Dave Sierra. Was. Another

29:55

one. Worse.

29:58

But I think that I saw Dave. It

30:00

only to catch up. a revolver

30:02

was nicknamed super Ninja Like the

30:04

so funny. And. Dribbler.

30:08

Rupaul. Yeah. And. Then as

30:11

day, Sierra was shotgun okay. Or

30:13

better yet, I'm. But you

30:15

know these guys were working. Damn, they work

30:17

together. And. Bring ideas

30:20

to dumb down was I

30:22

think a promoter in ran

30:24

his territory were was collaboration.

30:26

From. The Talent. Later

30:28

on. We'll paper

30:31

would come in and all take over the book.

30:33

but that erotic. Or be

30:35

a Booker Prize for it. About Roddy.

30:37

Robbie wanted to help the on and

30:40

would do whatever he could to help

30:42

Dawn because Down Games first big break

30:44

in his mind and that's where Roddy

30:46

lived. Was. In Oregon. So.

30:49

right? He had a soft spot for down when. Writing

30:52

went to the B w we are

30:54

sign Ronnie would not go when it

30:56

w w E. Events

30:59

in Portland, Oregon because he felt

31:01

was going against on all right.

31:03

So. That's the kind

31:06

of loyalty the dog had done. was

31:08

a very air man. Very nice man

31:10

and you know, pull no punches. But.

31:13

Was easier work with and then

31:15

the the last booker. In.

31:17

The Portland territory was lindeperg. The.

31:20

Graph. Lawyer. And lin

31:22

your book fit for a long time

31:24

and he and Rai. A and

31:26

Robbie actually will partners in a.

31:30

I for his kit oil change

31:32

a thing as well as a

31:34

hospital where. Lin. Ran

31:37

Roddy. Like.

31:39

Attend mineral oil change gimmick there

31:41

in Orland. Call Pipers Pit. You

31:43

know I'll t. Boned, Of:

31:45

pull into the bit, it's oil. Change your app

31:47

ten minute by about that. And.

31:50

Land Managers formalin was also the

31:52

the book or there and get

31:54

a good job and so can

31:56

yell Finally just. As.

31:59

With everything if evolution and

32:01

adjusts the no longer weekly

32:04

wrestling. In Markets

32:06

just was his supporters anymore.

32:09

And tore down the rose garden which is where

32:11

they ran in. Portland. And

32:13

other just wasn't wasn't anything

32:15

left him. But. Lynn was last

32:17

book or there and. Most.

32:20

Of the same. With. You

32:22

see happening? You. Will

32:24

have a book. And the

32:26

book or was the guy who. Brought.

32:29

The talent into the territory. Of

32:32

your friends with apartment the book or with

32:34

you could easily tell. Okay, Who's

32:36

gonna follow? Who's. His

32:38

crew gonna be. And

32:40

good book. Usually had a crew of

32:42

guys that were loyal to him. So.

32:46

That if he had a falling out.

32:49

With. A promoter. The. That

32:51

promoter usually new. Okay on Gap. Or.

32:53

Lose I lose him. Then I'm lose.

32:56

And. All. These other guys.

32:58

Not. All. The time lot of

33:00

guys. That everybody would follow right

33:03

away. Usually. Ah,

33:05

she's by attrition they would. Would

33:08

you wanted to have always wanted to have

33:10

a book? or that's going to bring an

33:12

influx of new talent? But. You

33:14

also want one that can take the talent

33:17

the hot talent that is there at the

33:19

time. And. Work with them.

33:22

And. Be able to. To. Kind of

33:24

work within them. Bring your guys in. Slowly

33:28

but surely. In. It isn't just

33:30

kept the the markets fresh, he kept it

33:32

kept the town's freshly cut the territory fresh

33:34

by having a new book. or Brooke probably

33:36

a new talent. And. Keep few

33:38

of the same the main stays guys that

33:40

live there. The guys may have a am

33:42

a piece of the promotion sometimes. They.

33:45

Would say in the do but would come in and

33:47

now work with them and bring in their own guys.

33:51

So. A social event about er da

33:54

know when and why do you

33:56

think. He. And samana. We

33:58

had a reputation for being a. A fair

34:00

pay off guy and all that jazz. But. How

34:03

or why do you think he inspired so

34:06

much of loyalty? Amongst the

34:08

town. I mean like. By.

34:10

The Time Piper. In

34:12

a piper went through minute lanning. Before.

34:15

He went to. The. Your. So.

34:17

He he clearly. Had

34:20

a soft spot for me. He was working other

34:22

places but he didn't want to compete against him

34:24

so there had to be some say what was

34:26

or had a daughter prose the business those different

34:28

from everyone else. I think

34:30

dong. Dong had stability.

34:34

If. You worked for Dawn in dime gave use

34:36

word that. Are I

34:38

were going to book you and you can work

34:40

every week in this is around which would make.

34:44

His his his were was as bombs. And.

34:48

You. Knew. You.

34:50

Do you were there you knew you would. Good. And.

34:54

I. Think there was a new with you

34:56

know? Or of dawn

34:58

in that some guys would take advantage

35:01

may be say. After you know.

35:03

I say they're welcome. As

35:06

I write, I'm. But

35:09

if it was. He. Was

35:11

steady, If

35:13

it was, you knew you couldn't work every week.

35:16

You. Knew you were gonna be on

35:18

Tv. You news is Donna only had

35:20

so many guys he only assume he

35:23

slots. Didn't.

35:25

Didn't. Bring in more guys and he could use.

35:28

And. Used everybody had. So

35:31

that was the appeal. And you gotta do

35:33

T V. He gonna work every night.

35:37

So. That was you know Dawn was

35:39

a man of his were. Paid

35:41

well for the territory that

35:43

size. And. You.

35:46

Knew that you have a job. If.

35:48

He would help you. Get

35:50

your view or if you were Dano and

35:53

Saddam era. My God I can't take this.

35:55

Ah, effortless, deserving Northwest

35:58

anymore? Judy

36:01

can you give me? book somewhere. Don.

36:03

Was always very happy to pick

36:05

up the phone is a have

36:07

got get this kinda. We're.

36:10

Going to finish mouth. And

36:12

use of he would find them some place to

36:14

go. He would make that call. And

36:17

sell them. Get booked elsewhere. Not.

36:19

Obey we did a you on leave guess

36:21

our done with. Don.

36:24

Would help. And.

36:27

I think for the guys that was like

36:29

Pipers thing. For the guys that. Would.

36:31

Walk out on. Man.

36:34

Ravi with. Your. Off.

36:36

The. Will never forget as. He was. Just.

36:39

Riding was that kind of guys. Very loyal. Touch.

36:43

Me a little bit about the way

36:45

other promoters looked at Dawn. You know,

36:47

like in terms of. All.

36:49

Boss was he held in high regard

36:52

as well. I

36:54

think so. You know. The. Blood.

36:58

Not. Brought. Pacific Northwest

37:00

fans. I'm sorry man, I'm

37:02

protests. Or. And been in leaps

37:05

of northwest where it rains than the

37:07

apes and of the times. And

37:10

has i suicide rate the

37:12

nation's. To none of

37:14

place for me Robin Wanna Live. In

37:16

for a lotta guys. That's. How

37:19

they look at man it was important

37:21

for me. Was someplace you could go

37:23

lotta times when nobody else would take.

37:27

So Portland was a destination. That.

37:31

It. Was good work. It was solid

37:33

work. On. Ya.

37:35

Know Tom My brother Tom went. To

37:38

Portland had a hell of a rock.

37:40

Was Brett Wayne Sawyer in. You.

37:43

Know. They. Had a

37:45

blast. Say that The Bomber Hotel

37:47

in Portland massively live. And

37:49

I actually tried to go by the

37:51

bomber. The bombers no longer there, but

37:54

it had an old. Bomber.

37:57

Airplane. That was it's

37:59

logo was. The Water Post. Write. An.

38:03

Obama. Hotel God that's

38:05

that's a motel. Not

38:07

a hotel motel. A

38:10

little kitchenette to serve in it,

38:12

and that's where everybody stay. The.

38:16

It was just a good place to go. so. Other

38:19

promoters like any, you know what? man. Like.

38:22

We would say your go away, learn a

38:24

new whole then come back. Horton.

38:26

Was good place to do that. Because.

38:29

It was. Far. Enough away.

38:32

Lucky. He didn't. How many times key

38:34

go back and look in wrestling magazines

38:36

and see anything from Portland Wrestling. It.

38:39

Is. Because. The.

38:42

Magazines the guy's been. go up there

38:44

and follow it. right? But.

38:46

You could pretty much hide in plain

38:48

sight. In the Pacific

38:50

Northwest. And it

38:53

was good place to go and in try new

38:55

gimmick. Or. Something

38:57

different. And be

38:59

able to be off the grid. And.

39:02

For. Much go anywhere else in the country in your

40:12

Had Tv in Portland Or guess it was

40:14

called Big Time Wrestling once upon a time.

40:17

And. Or was from fifty to ninety

40:19

one. I mean, that's. Remarkable.

40:22

Bad roads if. I.

40:24

Mean, I got three million. Fifty two is

40:26

unbelievable and and it was really a who's

40:50

we've. All heard of all made

40:56

I. Mean, I know we've heard of life.

40:59

Outlaw promotions are gonna. Randy Savage? is

41:01

there? Mr. Pascoe wasn't was a quote

41:03

unquote outlaw promotion. It's did that

41:05

outlaw promotions exist of their or does he really

41:07

gonna have a monopoly in the whole area? In.

41:10

our of as a monopoly was rules

41:12

would wanna run up there aka the

41:14

eat now. I'm use do was

41:17

to the north of Calgary. And

41:19

to the south of him was Russia. The.

41:21

It's this was the there wasn't enough

41:24

room. The. Portland.

41:28

Seattle. Navy. But but that

41:30

whole area this second support a

41:32

second promotion. right? There's

41:35

there's not. There's not a lotta room.

41:37

there's you. You're going to get a

41:39

couple local guys may be. A

41:42

month. For the most part, it was the

41:44

only game in town because it was just

41:46

the only game in town. Is

41:49

it's how many your how many ice

41:51

cream sans can have and Lucan Bar.

41:55

It's. A small town. The.

41:57

Out What? Those. Same.

42:00

They I. Think. Was wrestling is

42:02

or is. He.

42:04

A back in the day with Portland

42:06

wrestling and Seattle one that whole area.

42:10

Or saw a soccer. About his

42:12

booking philosophy only he said he

42:15

had different. In. A booker's who went.

42:18

Through. There, but. Was. There like

42:20

a hallmark or a trademark like I know

42:22

for for certain. We saw things like. The.

42:24

Midnight Rider or the Dusty Finish Like those

42:26

were classic dusty things. And I'm so there's

42:28

a bunch of others. But. Was.

42:31

There like a hallmark or something. you could

42:33

always count on a we. You know it's

42:35

Portland so they all do blah blah like

42:38

we've heard people say. Are. You

42:40

see? Debbie's blood godson. Well. That's

42:42

that Memphis yet Or whatever people say.

42:44

Was. There something that you can just

42:46

count on. Growing. Up

42:49

in the business like? well this is something they

42:51

always go back to. Or. solid wrestling

42:53

occur. That's what they did. Donde.

42:56

In Life gimmicks. Com.

42:58

Kept it simple. And.

43:01

Was all about the wrestling. So.

43:04

It was. It was just very simple. To.

43:08

We were stuck about another promoter here,

43:11

one that I know was or near

43:13

and dear to our Pat Patterson. Mr.

43:15

Ross Shire. Big Time Wrestling based on

43:18

San Francisco. The. San Francisco

43:20

territory in and of itself is

43:22

pretty legendary territory. What

43:24

can you tell us about her? Roy Scheider. I mean,

43:26

design to stand that. he was a wrestler who blew

43:29

out his knee and and became like a. A.

43:31

Promoter after that and and found a home

43:34

and the Cow Palace of all places. This

43:36

is an interesting yeah. Yeah

43:38

right man. Roy ran. Northern.

43:41

California. Roy ran San Francisco

43:43

and in the surrounding areas.

43:45

obviously San Jose. Sacramento. And.

43:48

Roy. Was a.

43:52

Who's. One of those old after. You.

43:54

Know by Roger you hundred on my way

43:57

around. Lock the out a kick ass outta

43:59

here. On. The

44:01

road was very successful. Very. Successful.

44:04

Roy. Bosses,

44:06

His own territory. And.

44:11

He. kept his guys and lines a the

44:13

in many ways. And like Bill

44:15

watched it out of fear. And

44:18

was a young was.

44:20

Was. A tough guy book but Roy was

44:22

also guy man. He was very sharp

44:24

when you hear about eighty gram and

44:26

in the. Great the

44:29

old time. Booker's.

44:31

And promoters ran their territory with an

44:34

iron fist. The we're also very creative

44:36

than what they did and how they

44:38

did it in. Could

44:41

take pretty much any crew.

44:44

And make them work in their

44:46

territory. Roy. Stars was one of

44:48

those guys. So. Roy. Add.

44:51

You know, a plethora of talent.

44:53

Mad Dog was Sean. Got.

44:56

Help get Pat Patterson

44:58

into. San

45:00

Francisco. Originally he was going to

45:02

be Roy's taxi partner. and you

45:04

know, righteous, Never really. Ah

45:07

came out of it and Roy just

45:09

stayed behind the scenes with incomes Pat.

45:12

And pat ourselves story about the

45:14

first time. That. He

45:16

met Roy and you don't?

45:19

Pat was a gay man.

45:22

This. It was cool to

45:24

be gay. In the sixties

45:26

and seventies or a you know

45:28

you didn't come out and tell

45:30

people. That. You were day you hit.

45:33

And. For. The most part.

45:35

Tip: That's yourself. And in

45:38

the business, you know, path. At

45:41

a reputation An impeccable reputation from

45:43

the standpoint of been great worker

45:45

in a great guy and honest.

45:48

And. Did very well for you.

45:50

He came in. And. Shires

45:52

as I are a lot of rumors and Pappas

45:54

I will the Me get the Me. Just a.

45:57

Good about the rumors. Let me tell you exactly what

45:59

it is. I'm gay. I've

46:01

got a friend his name is Louis. He lives with

46:03

me. And. If you've got a problem with that,

46:05

I'll leave right now. But.

46:08

Never enters into my business in the i won't

46:10

live my life I'm Gonna live my life. Is.

46:13

Like oh, I.

46:15

Didn't he fell? And I was

46:17

just completely honest with a new

46:20

boy. Like. Okay expat was

46:22

great worker or he was at for

46:24

finishes the he would go to pass

46:26

it. would you think about this Guide

46:29

physics at his It worked a little

46:31

bit and path was a mainstay as

46:33

a user. Fourteen years all around. But.

46:37

It was. That

46:39

was Mega Star or some ever bought

46:41

a house. And bought this

46:43

big beautiful house out on a hill

46:45

somewhere and. You. Know

46:48

to him that was success. I don't

46:50

think Pat ever envisioned himself levy. San

46:53

Francisco. Because. He

46:55

be loved it it was. He loved

46:57

the area and you. He liked working

46:59

for Royal. the he like Roy all

47:02

that much. But San

47:04

Francisco was excited. It was. It was

47:06

as the. I'll

47:10

call it the eight Mph a straight wrestling.

47:13

You know it was. It was exciting

47:15

and little gaga. He gonna a little

47:17

fun. And. Brought. In

47:20

guys like Rocky Johnson brought in

47:22

people like Joe. You'll get it.

47:24

Why? Shires in the bat And that,

47:26

I think the bat. Ah. A

47:29

napkin member's name. Marino.

47:33

And beliefs but. It's

47:35

a place where. You. Have

47:37

pat. And yeah, Ray Stevens.

47:39

Ray Stevens was another blonde bomber

47:41

man. Ray Stevens work. And. One

47:44

of the greatest tag teams in

47:46

the history of the business. Ever.

47:49

Today. They. Would be he

47:52

gets up tag deep and.

47:54

You. Also have people like Peter My via. Peter.

47:57

Young coming over from the islands Peter.

48:00

The. Was

48:02

a huge star there because

48:04

it was a big Samoan

48:07

community. In. San Francisco

48:09

and in the Pacific Northwest.

48:11

So peter. Was man.

48:14

He. Was a gun hunt Them. And. He

48:16

represented the Samoan people that were

48:18

also in. Seeker is the story

48:21

goes. Was. A

48:24

path and Peter had a

48:26

match. Pat and screwed Peter.

48:29

In the Match and a riot

48:31

ensued in his are Finding their

48:33

Way Bomb. In. The dressing

48:35

room. Coming. From above and

48:38

bomber Tory end from the

48:40

bleachers your comes offer in

48:42

seeker. And jumped

48:44

off of. The. Vomit worry

48:46

down off of. It Japan

48:48

rain, had to fight their way through and the

48:50

release degrees? guess. Peter.

48:54

Was able to go and talk

48:57

to them. And. Like got.

49:00

Com. That I'm I'm okay.

49:02

I'm gonna be okay. Let me make my

49:04

family's. You. Guys don't needs

49:06

a dog involved as bad as willing to

49:08

happen as you can get thrown in jail.

49:12

And you can be bad for you. I can.

49:14

I can do this all over com. You.

49:17

Know if you believe in me. Often

49:19

seek the. Friendly. With Peter

49:21

Peter is your help. Get them into the

49:23

business and get them to train and what

49:25

have you. That was the beginning of. Often

49:28

seek. So.

49:31

It was. But Peter has that power. With.

49:34

The small people because it was like the

49:36

omens. Peter went back to

49:38

was. Made. A high chief and

49:40

of the test to get back and all that

49:42

stuff damn new died getting the. She's

49:46

tattoos. But.

49:49

He. Was a megastar. In

49:52

the Pacific Northwest it you're in

49:54

San Francisco. In. That.

49:56

Area. You're. So Rocky

49:58

Johnson. You. Know right? The game

50:00

he iraq human set the place on

50:02

fire. Is rocky was

50:05

his career as matic is a gat.

50:08

And the beautiful thing about San Francisco

50:10

man was that fruit. Pepper Gomez. Oh

50:12

My. God. Just the stars that came

50:14

out of their. They.

50:16

All. Were.

50:19

Very close. In. On it

50:21

and. I. Would go see

50:23

past scrapbooks in his his photo

50:25

albums and stuff and see the

50:27

party's it My views house in

50:29

theater play in the ukulele and

50:32

everybody around. It. Was yourself

50:34

who's who? Of the

50:36

wrestling business. Now right

50:38

and like heels, baby faces. Brown.

50:40

Nosing outside but when you go to each

50:43

other's house up was different. That was okay.

50:45

And. It was

50:48

just such a. A

50:50

camaraderie and in a brotherhood. In

50:53

San Francisco that everybody it was

50:55

tight knit. It was

50:57

solid. They took care of

50:59

one another. Ah, I'm Pat

51:01

was able to go baby face He'll he'll

51:04

baby face You know is. Several.

51:06

Times. And they always bought. It. And

51:09

it was. It was

51:11

run in, it was. It.

51:15

Was tough to make it there. Is

51:17

yeah yeah to satisfy one guy. Rush

51:19

hours. And. Roy was.

51:22

Writing. Stuff. And.

51:24

He was. He was good pay off

51:26

guy not great. But.

51:29

It was solid in it was another one

51:31

the he knew if you've got over in

51:33

San Francisco. That. Pretty much you

51:36

can get over any place else. And

51:38

you had steady work. And.

51:41

Why was one he he would he

51:43

would take. You

51:46

know he will take ideas from path. He.

51:48

Would. Take. Ideas from

51:50

guys. That. Would offer but

51:52

for the most part Roy wanted

51:54

it says. In.

51:57

If why was Roy make every town?

52:00

Every. Night. And.

52:02

Random is in power. Tell a story about

52:04

one you know. Like the one time. The.

52:07

Roy was not going to make a spot show some.

52:10

And. He gave path finishes. And

52:13

path decided to have some fun and

52:15

is different things all his shirt. they

52:17

said he got his ass shoot out

52:19

because wasn't exactly is roy told him

52:21

to do. So

52:24

Roy ran with an iron fist and

52:26

I think that is what eventually ran

52:28

Roy out of business. Was.

52:31

No flexibility With a cane times

52:33

to your the business is changing.

52:36

The either change or you die. And.

52:40

Roy. Roy. Didn't want to

52:42

change roy lot of the keep running as a

52:45

way that he ran from day one. And

52:47

after while Lexus. Didn't.

52:50

Work with the be the big thing in.

52:52

In. San Francisco was a yearly battle royal.

52:55

And when he would bring in people from they w

52:58

a he bring in from all over the place. And.

53:01

Be in the Battle Royal that was the the

53:03

big event. The. Big yearly events. Cow Palace

53:05

was a big battle royal. And.

53:08

Think. Roy's ruling of.

53:12

You. Know Iron Fist is my way

53:14

or no way is eventually. Just were

53:16

really pushed roy out of the business

53:18

v. Or. Nam funny,

53:20

more. Aegis. The he was done.

53:24

It was no campbell him and basically. Taught.

53:27

Me a little bit about what joined oil

53:29

and read Massine did the hell for a

53:31

charming are thought that those were. Like

53:34

is Lieutenant Booker's but you were gonna say

53:36

he did it all himself was that rumor

53:38

and innuendo and John at all and Red

53:40

Mustang do anything knowledge of really helped me

53:42

and that's when that's where. Also bastin' with

53:44

your you. Go. Back Wages the your

53:46

leaders. That's where bass the gonna get.

53:49

The. Reputation were read really learned.

53:52

Because. Read is another one who was

53:54

a great book. Read health out with

53:56

the booking. In Dallas. For.

53:59

A while with. The oil in between

54:01

Gary Hart's ins and outs. Rebel.

54:04

Steam book there, but. Read

54:07

and learn. A lot of

54:09

his booking site from Rocard. And.

54:11

Read was one of those trust and confidence in

54:13

the early days that would help. Roy.

54:16

And. Get. Him through

54:18

with ideas. Read. Was masterful

54:20

mind I thought. Or

54:23

three live in about. You know, when

54:26

we're talking about that era you mentioned

54:28

briefly Ray Stevens? I'm Pat Patterson. I

54:30

mean, I think. Ray.

54:32

Stevens probably doesn't get his flowers on

54:35

us. In. Of everybody who

54:37

I know that's that's older than me that

54:39

was around to see that stuff. Sad. Their.

54:41

Degrades tag team of all time. He couldn't

54:44

believe how far ahead of their time they

54:46

were as tag team performers. And.

54:48

Even a guy like Rick Flair would say. His

54:51

favorite wrestler grown up. The reason he would ask

54:53

is that a taken to the masses. Is.

54:55

So he could see Ray Stevens like even the.

54:58

The. Flip in the Corner. He borrowed

55:00

their from Ray Stevens, an older. Straight.

55:02

Up And he would admit to that because he

55:04

was. And. Another that was criticism for Flair over

55:07

the years with I said all, he was a routine

55:09

man. I think bread hard as he even said it

55:11

was. you know when you seen one. Require.

55:13

Massive. Seen a mall. He was a routine man. But.

55:16

If you ask Rick about that, Rick. Would

55:18

say when his they haven't taken to the masses

55:20

to Sea Ray Stevens if re didn't do the

55:22

flip in the corner he was disappointed. Any.

55:24

Sort of equated it to like hey, they're going to

55:26

go see Elvis Yeah you listen to the new stuff

55:28

but you aren't to play the hits. And

55:31

I understand that. And I don't think

55:33

we talk about Race Stevens enough. It

55:36

d think it's just because it was before.

55:38

Cable. Television is what it is and there's just

55:40

not a lot of that footage of they are

55:42

Why doesn't Ray Stevens? If the props

55:44

that maybe he deserves. I don't

55:47

think that Ray was ever on national stage to

55:49

get those props for. His. Many people

55:51

to see him. Ray. Was used to

55:53

San Francisco. Rate was huge in the aid

55:55

of you a raid was huge in the

55:58

W W W F and the care. The

56:00

line is in Atlanta. Beyond. That.

56:03

Film. Which.

56:05

By the way, it is it that

56:07

gonna greer a work on top and

56:09

all those territories the same something. Yeah

56:12

so. You. Re was

56:15

just as magnificent worker and I

56:17

think that the. Your. To

56:19

Rick's point man, you are disappointed in Ce

56:21

Raid. Do the math. Array. When

56:23

ended about differently ever done. And.

56:26

Ray, You know. Great.

56:30

Couldn't. Do the same match. And

56:33

here's gifts for Erase Stevens and and

56:35

peppers. Race:

56:38

Go out tear the house. We.

56:41

Could do the same thing twice. Over him

56:43

to do the same match the next night.

56:46

He. Will look at you know what we do last night. I.

56:49

Ask you. Our our party last

56:51

i'm early with own actual said. He

56:54

had to be different. He just he went out

56:56

there on instinct. Gut.

56:58

Feel. Any will list of the

57:00

audience. Is every match was

57:02

different? He. Didn't

57:04

do his routine, just do is routine.

57:07

right? He made his routine get to the

57:09

audience at night. And the audience

57:11

One common with it than okay. He knew. how does

57:14

he knew how to get the audience up? To.

57:16

Take. Down. A can for a ride.

57:19

That was the difference in oh yeah, Ray

57:21

Stevens, but Racemes couldn't tell you how he

57:23

did it. Receives

57:25

cannot tell you how okay.

57:29

Go. Out And Do This. Can.

57:31

Tell you how he does it. Have. To

57:34

go out through the house down every night, have a

57:36

different match every night. And. Listen to take

57:38

a tell you why he did every

57:40

single thing that he did and why

57:42

it matters. And here's how and why

57:45

you should do this and try this.

57:48

Ah understood the business to that level

57:50

that he could teach other people. How.

57:54

To put things into place in their

57:56

matches. Path

57:58

was bat was a leader. In Ray,

58:00

Ray was a feeler. race thief

58:03

rages without him perform based on

58:05

his gut instinct what he felt

58:07

that night. Was. A tremendous

58:09

seal on a great be. much better

58:12

heal. Because you believed you

58:14

believe everything that they did. But.

58:17

Even when. With. Many years

58:19

later we brought Ray and try be

58:21

an age range just couldn't do it.

58:24

Does. Rain. Knew what Re

58:26

would do but re only new array

58:28

would do once raid got into the

58:30

me. And.

58:33

Tell you what is match was beforehand. You

58:37

get your finish? Yeah, And

58:39

you do that to a T. But.

58:41

The rest of it. And.

58:44

Call it out the headwaters see with. People.

58:46

That audience that night was by. And.

58:50

Then he would. Make. His

58:52

match fit. And.

58:54

He would bring the audience up to percent of.

58:57

So that it. but he couldn't say I read it. In

59:02

as much as we tried to, you know, Seats.

59:05

Him teach. Uses

59:09

I Am. In I.

59:13

Gotta. Be outing. Now. As an arraignment,

59:15

the Market teach them. But.

59:18

Even that I think that right to tell

59:20

you what do in the moment right? Because.

59:23

The Why. Actor

59:26

path to tell you why. Back.

59:28

To tell you how to. Ah,

59:31

either abbreviate her. To.

59:34

Adjust. The

59:36

tell you what to do. But.

59:39

You know, racist did it.

59:41

Ray was probably the single

59:44

best. just natural. In.

59:47

The Business. Go. There

59:49

been a few basic ray was. The

59:51

best it and especially after I got to

59:53

know him. Was. That. Man.

59:56

He system natural performer. He

59:58

says the guy that was. It. A

1:00:01

Go Well. You. Perform. I.

1:00:04

Am. That. Was that

1:00:06

was Race Stevens in a nutshell, and that's

1:00:08

what made him so great. A

1:00:11

start about how Shires deal comes to any

1:00:13

and here I mean I guess. You.

1:00:16

Know as the territory started to. Get.

1:00:18

Smaller and smaller in a business starts to

1:00:21

dry up. What? Happened

1:00:23

with him and Verne gonna there at the end. the

1:00:25

rico. Well. The I think

1:00:27

it was more over. On

1:00:30

September. But. You know,

1:00:33

roy? Roy Who would.

1:00:36

Try. Branch out the and in Bern.

1:00:39

Would. Go and run them from Burma. Go into

1:00:41

run denver your La house with the big battle

1:00:43

royal. such shit. As is think it

1:00:45

was more than anything one of those

1:00:47

old timer disagreements. Over.

1:00:50

Using talent, How they use talent

1:00:52

and and why and burn was

1:00:54

getting bigger. And. Burn

1:00:56

wanted to go in the San Francisco

1:00:58

and. I think. That the.

1:01:02

Roy. Was like now San Francisco's minds

1:01:04

of all work together than nothing burgess

1:01:06

gonna. Burned

1:01:08

him and tried to push him out and bully him

1:01:11

and nothing fits. You. Know. I

1:01:13

don't think Roy Hannity fight left him in

1:01:15

him at that point. I

1:01:18

think Roy went as far as a good

1:01:20

look at what money he had. It.

1:01:22

Again, you go Go. Go. Back and look

1:01:24

at during those times Law? that's cash

1:01:26

business. Yes. So.

1:01:29

Gilroy had his his ranch in his

1:01:31

house know lab and I think that

1:01:33

Reuters can up. Was.

1:01:37

Done. It. Will hide a more.

1:01:40

Just gonna. When. Out

1:01:42

faster and learn Came in and.

1:01:45

By. taking over, As

1:01:48

I've heard, For sure

1:01:50

Allegedly did some sort of an interview where

1:01:52

he quote unquote broke a fade. The

1:01:54

right. Now am

1:01:56

A there There was a time I thank. You

1:01:58

know Roy when Roy. Was done. Or

1:02:01

he was all burn it down. Yeah.

1:02:03

Yeah. There. Were Guys. But.

1:02:06

This is what's funny, man. Rush!

1:02:08

I did a thing where he

1:02:10

broke a favorite each supposed to

1:02:12

business. Let's. Not forget one

1:02:14

of the me there was get it

1:02:16

is it's happened throughout. History.

1:02:19

Or. Guys Him. Exposed the

1:02:22

business if you will. It's

1:02:24

hot for week or two. businesses to

1:02:26

spears. Be. Wanna be

1:02:28

entertained? Yeah, Rugged did

1:02:30

an interview with the newspaper L

1:02:33

A Times, right? Okay,

1:02:35

great so did wrong. saw. People

1:02:39

forget. The

1:02:41

first promoter. To.

1:02:44

My knowledge is are probably were others. But

1:02:47

the first promoter. You

1:02:50

quote, expose The business. And

1:02:53

go to way. Athletic

1:02:55

Commission. Was. Burned Gun you.

1:02:59

Burn went to the athletic commission

1:03:02

says he gets rough sport. Work.

1:03:06

For. Working year. Or

1:03:09

rewire you. Have. Supervising

1:03:11

us and trying to tell us what to

1:03:14

do. Take taxes for less? I put a

1:03:16

real sport. When. Our

1:03:18

sport rather tame. it. Doesn't

1:03:20

work. This is an exhibition. So.

1:03:26

With. Everybody would get out of us all

1:03:28

My god the dubs of he They

1:03:30

expose business with the New Jersey and

1:03:32

New York and lead commission. And.

1:03:35

We learn from Burn. Burn.

1:03:40

Got his on Fox. And

1:03:42

I'm not knocking him to kiss me that

1:03:44

smart business. I was the

1:03:46

right thing to do. Burn. Always

1:03:48

it's pass. Is

1:03:52

he ran his real legitimate thing? I

1:03:54

didn't. Man. He was smart.

1:03:56

He went in and got the athletic commission.

1:03:59

As a whole new. I guess is worth we know

1:04:01

who's gonna win or lose. Gonna lose? Come on

1:04:03

guys. Be. Real. Are

1:04:06

you that? Tom? And. That

1:04:08

insulted the commission enough to go no, no,

1:04:10

no, no. Is the commission? Look

1:04:12

At it. This. Is. The.

1:04:15

Easier it will expose them. right?

1:04:18

Is. Other overseen a.

1:04:22

Fixed. Contents. Really?

1:04:26

You want it? So. It was

1:04:28

I thought. Was. Thought that was genius.

1:04:30

Some guys really were pissed off at burn for

1:04:33

doing that. I'd.

1:04:36

I. Remember hearing about it in

1:04:38

his much as we ditched about the

1:04:40

Commission in Texas. Is

1:04:43

a five percent man? Five percent off the

1:04:46

top. Way. To The

1:04:48

Wrestling and Boxing Athletic

1:04:50

Commission. For. What

1:04:52

your they did. They.

1:04:55

Came and collected contracts, counted tickets,

1:04:57

and took their five percent unless.

1:05:01

And. Maybe of blood pressure in. What's.

1:05:04

That maybe to blubber. What?

1:05:06

Know the doctor said blood pressure down to

1:05:09

say and I've always thought that the commission

1:05:11

states have heard wrestlers like. Years

1:05:13

ago, say yeah, they just come in

1:05:15

the locker room, watches change clothes, creepily.

1:05:19

Take a couple of as blood pressure and then

1:05:21

ask for autographs from fix. It

1:05:24

was a joke. Yes, And.

1:05:27

Again, we think about. you know it's like

1:05:29

that. There were there were guys that were

1:05:31

too proud. Or. Boss Man

1:05:33

moron. I could ever it

1:05:35

gets his it's. Not. On

1:05:37

the up and up right there was

1:05:39

a strong the business. But.

1:05:41

Then bitch about five percent. And

1:05:44

bitch internally about how well you

1:05:46

know we're we're visits. And.

1:05:52

To. Me was like. Every

1:05:54

time you know runs runs

1:05:57

sar deserve. X was a guy

1:05:59

like rush hour. The road. But.

1:06:01

It it got national a people to the up

1:06:03

and in it went all over. More

1:06:06

so than any others had. That.

1:06:09

And boy, everybody was like rock stars

1:06:11

done, this business is never going to

1:06:13

work again by God, have we see

1:06:15

him we're gonna kill? Six.

1:06:19

Months later, he's main event in L.

1:06:21

right? So. He

1:06:23

did not have is like oh my

1:06:25

god your arm as a kid going.

1:06:28

The. Seems is this from the outside?

1:06:30

Not really. even understand it just

1:06:32

thinking like. That

1:06:35

this is crazy. And. Once

1:06:37

you get into and understand and see. The.

1:06:40

Inner workings of it is. it's ludicrous.

1:06:43

You. Have government agency.

1:06:46

A. Government Commission Athletic Commission. That.

1:06:49

A second your five percent, Five percent off

1:06:51

the top. And

1:06:55

then. For. What? For.

1:06:58

What? What are they do? One of the off. What?

1:07:01

Protection did they give

1:07:03

anybody? Nothing.

1:07:06

Nothing. They.

1:07:09

Sat in the locker room and write. Laws.

1:07:12

I. Assumed.

1:07:15

It was a joke. Well.

1:09:04

1:09:06

a. You know,

1:09:09

as much as we want to talk about different

1:09:11

Booker's today. When I think this do, I think

1:09:13

of Sue more often as a trainer. Than.

1:09:15

A Booker? What's a you. My.

1:09:18

As a good stewards and innovator and

1:09:20

promoter Yes, definitely a trainer, but I

1:09:22

think what was. Important. About

1:09:24

you know still heart was.

1:09:27

Ensues. Of Encounters. And.

1:09:32

Yen often gallery but not

1:09:34

simply someone live. Ah,

1:09:37

Ah, Ah, Trips.

1:09:40

If me long in the

1:09:42

a Red Deer Sachs schedule

1:09:44

on Saskatoon. Is. All

1:09:46

those. Ah, Group brew

1:09:48

Brutal. Trips. Have

1:09:51

an account. Reality it's do is great

1:09:53

promoter a look at it. Stews guys

1:09:55

ran territory. In Stoop Bucked

1:09:57

it's do. Promoted. It.

1:10:00

Stu did it all and whether

1:10:03

he did it all because he was cheap or whether he

1:10:05

did it all because he was smart, I'm going to go

1:10:07

with the smart because of the way that he did it.

1:10:12

And Stu would train guys. It was a

1:10:14

training ground. If you had somebody that had

1:10:16

some raw talent and you look

1:10:18

at some of the guys that came out of there

1:10:20

from superstar Billy Graham, the junkyard

1:10:23

dog, Jake, the snake Roberts.

1:10:27

And again, okay, you

1:10:29

can't forget Brett and Owen Hart and all

1:10:31

of the hearts that came

1:10:33

out of there and that were just raw,

1:10:37

raw talent that

1:10:39

Stu was able to take and work with

1:10:41

whether he took them in the dungeon to

1:10:44

teach them, you know, how

1:10:46

to hook and how to shoot. That

1:10:50

was Stu Hart and Stu then gave

1:10:52

them the ability to work every single

1:10:54

night. Like I said, those were some

1:10:56

tough, tough trips

1:11:00

to make, especially in the winter,

1:11:03

but they made them and they had

1:11:05

steady work and Stu paid steadily. And,

1:11:07

you know, I don't know how good of a payoff

1:11:09

guy he was, but he was fair. And

1:11:12

guys kept coming back and they kept coming

1:11:14

back because they knew that

1:11:16

if you could go to Calvary and

1:11:18

make it again, it was a place

1:11:21

that Stu had connections everywhere. Usually

1:11:23

the next place you talk about is Stu would pick up

1:11:25

a phone and call the folks. I

1:11:28

said, Hey, I got this guy.

1:11:30

He came in there. Maybe we're

1:11:32

free. You don't get it. They

1:11:34

get the ticket that they could

1:11:36

pick up the addictive, the charisma

1:11:39

and that, you

1:11:41

know, an endorsement from Stu Hart. Gary

1:11:44

in a lot of way. But then you

1:11:46

were made. If Stu said,

1:11:48

yeah, man, use this kid. That's

1:11:50

where Jake learned, you know, Jake

1:11:52

went up there and worked for Stu

1:11:55

and got it down.

1:11:57

Sylvester Ritter, big daddy Ritter. A

1:12:00

d Get it because gas

1:12:02

plants so. Guys the one

1:12:04

of the be in the Nfl. Couldn't

1:12:07

make. We're. Nets bet is

1:12:09

gonna say you for boli. So.

1:12:13

If you're like in the Edmonton

1:12:15

league and and on that side.

1:12:17

Of the world, man. Too

1:12:20

hard and cover wrestling was on Tv

1:12:22

in the off season of your by.

1:12:24

Want to go on over here? Learned

1:12:27

rust. Service Retarded

1:12:29

junkyard dog. And

1:12:32

a Big Daddy views. Yeah.

1:12:34

He had charisma, The shirts

1:12:36

but aircrews month. And.

1:12:40

Mans. Do would get a move. To

1:12:43

gotta both he comes down and. You

1:12:46

know what makes him the junkyard dog?

1:12:49

Is nasty eel. And holy

1:12:51

shit does he have charisma indeed. In

1:12:53

learned. How was

1:12:55

your grace worker in the world know. But.

1:12:58

Yes, Because he knew how to

1:13:00

draw. And so to me

1:13:02

the greatest worker the world is guy that

1:13:04

knows overall young Jewish and it's an. Eighteen

1:13:07

Sar match in the Tokyo Dome

1:13:09

or the Fujiwara Gimmick: Zebra Snakes.

1:13:12

The. Fever. Malaria? Yeah. Draw

1:13:14

money. They'll draw money and then your

1:13:16

rig workers as are. So.

1:13:19

That was young still would make

1:13:21

that evaluation of and and if

1:13:23

studio that endorsement. That. You were

1:13:25

made. Your. Bad

1:13:27

news. Guys. If

1:13:29

the. Bad. News Alec Ways.

1:13:32

Is. A only tell. Sit

1:13:35

in. Calgary, And.

1:13:39

About. Articles want as I was like

1:13:41

and works yeah. A

1:13:43

bad news? Wow. But.

1:13:45

Calgary Is were. Really?

1:13:48

Bad. New Shiny had horrible reputation.

1:13:51

Yet in Calgary mans do and no

1:13:54

problem with him. Great.

1:13:56

Guy. And. He you go back

1:13:58

in you you want. The

1:14:01

stars come out. Then

1:14:03

Keith Frankie, Adrian

1:14:05

Adonis, working in there. You see the

1:14:07

growth. The

1:14:11

Bulldogs got

1:14:13

their start in Calgary. They got

1:14:16

their breaks in Calgary. The

1:14:19

other good thing about Calgary is you work in

1:14:21

Calgary, man. It was a nice tie-in to Japan.

1:14:24

It wasn't a horrible trip. So

1:14:27

Stu had the connection

1:14:30

to New Japan. So

1:14:38

guys could get booked to New Japan. It

1:14:41

was a great place to go because you got steady

1:14:43

work. You could get a Japan gig out of it.

1:14:46

Go over there and make some big money and then come back.

1:14:49

Stu ran as a wrestling territory.

1:14:52

But Stu liked the gimmicks. You

1:14:55

could get a bear or a damn

1:14:58

lion or tiger bear. Oh my. You

1:15:00

know, man, they work there. He

1:15:03

had a bear underneath the damn house. Bear

1:15:08

out and bear works. It was a working bear? A

1:15:11

working bear. So

1:15:13

when he had a working tiger. They're

1:15:16

working lion. He

1:15:23

just kept these tiger by the

1:15:25

tail. Where did he

1:15:27

keep these animals? Underneath

1:15:29

how? I mean, you're making that

1:15:31

up. So

1:15:35

there was a cage underneath the house where most people

1:15:37

would have a crawl space. I thought the dungeon was

1:15:39

under the house. I thought the dungeon was under the

1:15:42

house. We still have like an area underneath the

1:15:44

house. So there

1:15:46

was like, there was an area that was

1:15:48

a crawl space and he kept

1:15:50

wild animals in there. Yeah. Doesn't

1:15:53

everybody. So

1:15:56

little Brett, no, when they're just throwing raw

1:15:58

meat underneath the house. to feed their pet

1:16:00

tiger and lion and bear. Yeah.

1:16:07

You've sold the defense. They used to

1:16:09

tease them with Omen. Pull

1:16:11

them back just in time. You

1:16:13

you've, uh, I mean, there's a

1:16:15

tiger right there with Stu, but yeah, I

1:16:18

mean, I love you, but there,

1:16:20

there's almost no chance you're going to convince me

1:16:22

that motherfucker lived under his house. Okay.

1:16:26

Then tell him where he lived. I don't

1:16:28

know. I'm asking. I

1:16:32

mean, I've heard of people like, Oh,

1:16:34

my horse got out. You know, listen, I know

1:16:36

people who own horses. I did. No, hang on.

1:16:38

Wait a minute. Wait. Just a dad go man.

1:16:41

So, uh, John Meek original

1:16:45

owner of the new New Orleans things spoke

1:16:47

to him yesterday. As a matter of fact, okay.

1:16:50

Had a menagerie of

1:16:54

animals on

1:16:57

lazy lane. I could actually give them. I

1:16:59

think it was five lazy lane. I can actually give

1:17:02

the address now because it doesn't exist anymore. So, um,

1:17:06

had

1:17:08

this 12,000 foot mansion, a

1:17:11

5,000 square foot, uh,

1:17:14

pool house, beautiful pool and

1:17:17

five acres in river Oaks in Houston, Texas.

1:17:20

And had every African

1:17:24

wild animal that you could possibly

1:17:26

imagine living

1:17:28

there. And one time, one

1:17:36

time the cheetah got out. And

1:17:44

the housekeepers and the staff are

1:17:46

running down lazy lane. For

1:17:48

those of you in Houston, no

1:17:50

river Oaks and no lazy lane. Trying

1:17:54

to catch the cheetah. I

1:17:56

mean, I wanted to poke holes in this, but that audio you

1:17:58

just heard is when I threw it. Google machine

1:18:01

and seven years ago, there was a

1:18:03

house on lazy lane listed for $20 million. Yeah,

1:18:06

that was Rob. So, so

1:18:08

that was Rob, that was Rob

1:18:10

Taylor's who had traded houses with

1:18:13

Meekam. So that's the, that's the

1:18:15

real Theloma sponsor from the OG something

1:18:17

to wrestle by is he

1:18:19

lived on lazy lane in a 19 and a

1:18:22

half in a 19 and a half million dollar

1:18:24

house. Yes. Okay. I

1:18:27

didn't know houses like that existed in Houston, Texas.

1:18:30

Oh my God. Yeah. It was, it was

1:18:32

unbelievable, but it was also five acres was

1:18:35

a little bit more than was allowed

1:18:38

in that area that to own, you know, for

1:18:40

like a home, but Meekam

1:18:42

being Meekam, so

1:18:45

John was, uh, he had race teams, man.

1:18:47

He had an indie team. He had race

1:18:50

teams, they gave white race

1:18:52

for him. He owned the new Orleans saints.

1:18:55

Um, his dad was one of the big

1:18:57

five of the oil men. Help me understand

1:18:59

that we're saying this Meekam guy, he took

1:19:01

up a fucking tiger in his crawl space.

1:19:05

Well, he had an area out back. He kept them. Okay.

1:19:09

And a cheetah, he had a Panther.

1:19:11

He had, um, he,

1:19:13

so the only, the only

1:19:16

animals that he did not get, he did

1:19:18

not get a rhino. Think

1:19:21

he finally ended up getting a hippopotamus.

1:19:24

There was, there were three animals and I just,

1:19:26

we were talking about the other day that he

1:19:29

did not get that he could not get into

1:19:31

the States. And

1:19:33

how you would get them is you would be able to

1:19:35

go out. He was a big game hunter and

1:19:37

he got to the point where it was like, why am I hunting,

1:19:39

you know, these animals?

1:19:41

It goes, I should be, you

1:19:44

know, he appreciated the animal. Right.

1:19:46

So they just started to save the animals. He wanted

1:19:48

to save them. And

1:19:51

so he would bring them over, uh, into the States,

1:19:53

get them into the States. And how he would do

1:19:55

it is he would bring over a couple and

1:19:57

they would have babies and he could get the baby. It's

1:20:00

because it was in the States and

1:20:02

he would get the baby and, um,

1:20:04

bring them to his house. He

1:20:08

loved, he just, he loved, he loved

1:20:11

animals. He just, he just loved all

1:20:13

animals and wanted to

1:20:15

have these animals and monkeys and lemurs, he

1:20:17

had just everything. So,

1:20:21

uh, you ever see Stu wrestle a lion, a

1:20:23

tiger or a bear? Oh my. I've

1:20:26

seen him work. I've seen, uh, seen him work

1:20:28

with the bear. So you work with the, uh,

1:20:30

tiger. I don't necessarily think I've ever seen anything

1:20:33

in hand with the lion, but

1:20:35

sure, you know, I'm

1:20:38

sure it looked man. If the, if the

1:20:41

bear was trained in the dungeon, it was a

1:20:43

stiff mode. Those are, you

1:20:45

know, like Nick Adams and Amarillo, Nick's

1:20:47

Nick's bear was working bear. I

1:20:50

think that was Victor, Victor,

1:20:52

general Ben, one of the two, he had the entity. You

1:20:55

know, they did, they did bend the bear off

1:20:57

of the TV show. General

1:20:59

Ben. Yes. So that was

1:21:01

his working. These really real

1:21:03

names, Victor. He had like a,

1:21:05

uh, an ID. It did.

1:21:07

They have to get these guys. I mean, this is the

1:21:09

commission era. How did the commission,

1:21:12

they take that bear's blood pressure. Yeah.

1:21:14

I did. I

1:21:20

mean, they, they, they, they show the bears

1:21:22

is okay to go in and, uh, you

1:21:24

know, work, fuck, he's

1:21:27

got, what have you got? High blood pressure. And

1:21:31

he's got like a little bear ID with his

1:21:33

photo. And do they take pictures? I think they

1:21:35

take a picture of the bear. You

1:21:37

think I'm fucking, you think I'm kidding. Well,

1:21:39

listen, I had a, those assholes had a,

1:21:41

they had a license for the bear. That's

1:21:45

where I was getting to. Cause I've seen wrestling licenses

1:21:47

where you had to sign it. So do they put

1:21:49

a bear paw print on that motherfucker? Uh,

1:21:52

his agent, Nick was able to sign. So,

1:21:55

but somewhere there was probably a power of attorney that

1:21:57

the bear had to deal with his agent. Definitely.

1:22:00

How do we know the bear wasn't

1:22:02

coerced into doing this? Well,

1:22:06

you know, bears

1:22:08

love to work. Okay, I didn't know that.

1:22:10

I'm learning a lot here. Oh yeah, definitely. Man, they love

1:22:12

to work. It's nature. Okay,

1:22:15

so just out in the wild, sometimes you could probably

1:22:17

just- Out in the wild, you need to make sure,

1:22:19

first of all, you're

1:22:22

out in the wild and you encounter a bear. You

1:22:25

say, you work at heel or baby face? Now,

1:22:28

if it's a heel, if the bear's a heel,

1:22:30

you gotta let him call the match. That's

1:22:32

what I wanted to ask you. You gotta follow him. I know

1:22:35

if bears are old school, we've

1:22:37

all heard as wrestling fans, there's like a secret

1:22:39

handshake, the old limp handshake. I don't think that's

1:22:41

a thing anymore, but do you

1:22:43

think if you run across a bear out in

1:22:45

the wild, you should try the working

1:22:48

handshake and just see? So

1:22:50

you can know, is this a trained bear?

1:22:53

Most of them, you just ask them straight up.

1:22:55

Right. Now, if you

1:22:58

run across two bears in the wild and they're

1:23:00

doing spots, is

1:23:02

it okay for you to cheer or should you

1:23:04

just be quiet? Like if they're running through some

1:23:07

maneuvers and things. If

1:23:09

it's worthy. Now, if it was in

1:23:11

the Tokyo Dome, then- Polite

1:23:13

clap. You would have to just like- Polite

1:23:15

applause. Politely clap, yeah. Golf claps. Yeah.

1:23:19

But most bears, yeah, it's, you know, most

1:23:21

of the time, man, because, look, man,

1:23:24

they're working, they're coming in, they're working

1:23:26

on top and they're

1:23:28

gonna, they like to call them. I

1:23:31

really wish right now I had some amazing

1:23:33

kind because I think that

1:23:35

would cure what ails me right here. I mean, this

1:23:37

feels like a conversation that we're

1:23:39

having after we have had a

1:23:42

little bit of help from our friends over at

1:23:44

theamazingkind.com. Check it out if you haven't already. Use

1:23:46

our promo code WRESTLE. This guy,

1:23:48

the founder, man, he's one of us, one

1:23:51

of us. He was in the wrestling business.

1:23:54

He worked as a producer and editor for the WWE, working on

1:23:56

commercials and marketing. And now,

1:23:58

man, he's embraced that entrepreneurial. spirit to

1:24:00

create the amazing kind. They

1:24:02

make plant-based pain relief balms, creams

1:24:05

and gels for muscles and joints,

1:24:08

and they've got infused oils for mood

1:24:10

support and sleep. You can check

1:24:12

it all out at theamazingkind.com. And when you

1:24:14

use our promo code Wrestle, you'll

1:24:16

get 20% off all of your orders. The entire

1:24:19

order will be 20% off and

1:24:21

your body will thank you. And don't just

1:24:23

take my word for this, just listen to Bruce

1:24:25

Prichard, because Bruce has been put through

1:24:27

the wringer, I

1:24:29

mean with the shoulder and the

1:24:31

tricep, but the amazing kind

1:24:33

has been there every step of the way, right

1:24:36

Bruce? Help you

1:24:38

be pain-free and

1:24:40

make you feel a lot better.

1:24:42

I cannot say enough about the

1:24:45

topicals, but also the CBN CBD,

1:24:48

gonna help you sleep, gonna help

1:24:50

you stay asleep, which for those

1:24:52

of you that have insomnia know,

1:24:55

hey man, okay, sometimes

1:24:57

it's hard getting to sleep, but

1:24:59

then once you get to sleep, you

1:25:01

don't always stay asleep, and this will

1:25:03

help you stay asleep, and that's

1:25:06

the beautiful thing about it, and it's got something for

1:25:08

everything that ails you. CBD infused

1:25:10

oil will help reduce your anxiety and

1:25:12

help you relax, and I

1:25:14

know that's been really helpful for my wife. The

1:25:17

CBG infused oil will also help you with

1:25:19

focus. I got my dad using that at

1:25:21

the office, and he thinks he's sharper than

1:25:23

ever at 60 some odd years old, and

1:25:26

CBN, what Bruce was talking about, is the

1:25:28

infused oil to help you sleep, not

1:25:31

just to fall asleep, but stay

1:25:33

asleep. Now the CBD products,

1:25:35

which are like the balms and creams or

1:25:37

gels, that's gonna help Bruce restore muscles and

1:25:39

stiff joints and backaches and arthritis, or maybe

1:25:41

you just spend all day on your feet and you

1:25:43

need some just everyday comfort, but

1:25:46

buddy, when you're trying to recover, sleep

1:25:48

is your friend, and we

1:25:51

really recommend their CBD infused oils and

1:25:53

their soft gels. They're gonna help bring

1:25:55

about a sense of relaxation and

1:25:57

calmness. As we mentioned.

1:26:00

And you've also got the topicals, but we're

1:26:02

really bragging today about the CBN stuff. The

1:26:04

sedative effects, the way it helps you get

1:26:06

to sleep, the way it gives you the

1:26:08

prolonged sleep, the way it

1:26:10

reduces your nighttime awakenings. If you're

1:26:12

one of those cats who's waking up two or three

1:26:15

times a night, man, try some amazing kinds. Hook up

1:26:17

the CBN. I know Bruce has

1:26:19

had a great time with the Rolangel. It's

1:26:21

been an absolute lifesaver for him during the

1:26:23

surgeries. But once you actually are gonna

1:26:25

try to get to sleep, get the

1:26:27

infused oils. The CBN is what you're looking

1:26:29

for. And check this out, they've got

1:26:32

4,000 milligrams of

1:26:35

CBD plus CBN, and that's

1:26:37

the oil for your mood support and your sleep. Man,

1:26:40

it's a one-two punch. We recommend it, you

1:26:42

will too. My wife is using it,

1:26:44

my mom and dad are using it, and Bruce is

1:26:46

using it, Lois Shivani is using it.

1:26:48

Everybody I know who's tried it is a

1:26:50

believer. And I don't mind telling you,

1:26:52

we've had multiple sponsors for this type of product

1:26:54

before. Bruce went out of his way

1:26:57

to pick up the phone and call our guy Dave

1:26:59

Green, who works with all the agencies, and said, dude,

1:27:01

whatever this was, get me more of

1:27:04

that. That shit's the real deal. He's

1:27:07

talking about theamazingkind.com. And you can

1:27:09

get 20% off with

1:27:11

the promo code WRESTLE. Your body will

1:27:13

thank you. Go right now to theamazingkind.com

1:27:17

and use our promo code WRESTLE. So

1:27:20

listen, we know that Stu has a successful

1:27:22

territory and

1:27:26

carries a lot of weight in the industry, peer

1:27:28

to peer. He's gonna become

1:27:30

a legendary trainer from guys all

1:27:32

over America, Canada, even Japan. But

1:27:36

once upon a time, he turns the book

1:27:38

over for the creative to

1:27:40

Bruce and Keith. And

1:27:43

I don't think that worked as well. What

1:27:45

can you tell us about Stampede and

1:27:48

maybe the downhill slope? Well,

1:27:51

I just think that, you know, more than anything, the

1:27:53

business was changing in general. And I

1:27:55

don't know that Stu necessarily, I think a

1:27:58

lot of the old time. after

1:28:00

a while like Paul Bosch when he was ready

1:28:02

to get out. You get to

1:28:04

a point where you're sick of dealing with talent, you're

1:28:06

sick of dealing with

1:28:08

it. You either

1:28:11

hand it over to somebody else or you get

1:28:13

out of it all together and sue, and his

1:28:17

children there that he can hand it over

1:28:19

to. I

1:28:21

don't think it gets talked about

1:28:23

enough, but I think that people, Bruce

1:28:27

Hart book, and I don't know

1:28:29

that he was the greatest booker in the world

1:28:31

at that time, but I will say this about

1:28:33

Bruce Hart, because

1:28:36

that's not Bruce. Bruce

1:28:38

is in the background there. There he is. Bruce

1:28:41

to me had one of the

1:28:43

most creative mind that

1:28:47

I've ever seen. I thought that

1:28:49

where Bruce was

1:28:51

absolutely brilliant at

1:28:54

was telling stories. I

1:28:56

just don't know that he

1:28:58

had the time. What I

1:29:01

mean by that is that he

1:29:03

had the time to really allow

1:29:05

the stories to develop, because he

1:29:08

was deep, man. He was deep

1:29:10

into storytelling. He

1:29:12

would send letters, man, with

1:29:14

stories that were, I thought,

1:29:17

magnificent. I just think that he

1:29:21

was probably way ahead of his time. You

1:29:25

would listen to Bruce, and

1:29:28

sometimes I think people dismissed him.

1:29:32

But man, he was to me, he was

1:29:35

great storytelling. Why didn't he work with

1:29:37

you guys? Why didn't he work with the WWE? Well,

1:29:40

I think that there were times that

1:29:42

tried and just for whatever reason, didn't

1:29:44

work out. But

1:29:48

I go back to the Owen and Brett

1:29:50

story, man, that was pitched by Bruce to

1:29:52

be Bruce and Brett. It

1:29:56

became Owen, but the

1:29:58

depth of story. And then

1:30:00

a lot of that was from Bruce. And

1:30:05

he would often, I mean, just to

1:30:07

read a letter from Bruce Hart is,

1:30:09

first of all, it's several pages long.

1:30:13

But it's well thought out,

1:30:15

man. And

1:30:18

for whatever reason, man, I just, I

1:30:20

think that Bruce had, if he was

1:30:23

channeled in the right way, man,

1:30:26

good Lord. I thought

1:30:28

that he had a great, his

1:30:31

gift was telling stories. 74

1:30:35

years old, he's still with us. Hopefully

1:30:37

he hears about the

1:30:39

high praise that you gave him here today and it

1:30:41

brightens his day a little bit. It is interesting to

1:30:43

think, you know, what could have been, if

1:30:45

he would have been helping with

1:30:47

creative all those years ago, WWE. Yeah,

1:30:51

I think it's just, you know, more, more than anything, a

1:30:55

channeling of those ideas. Um,

1:30:59

the end of stampede comes, I think when, when

1:31:01

Vince makes a deal to buy stampede out and

1:31:03

there's been some controversial discussion over the years about

1:31:06

whether or not that deal was seen all the

1:31:08

way through. What'd you ever hear about the end

1:31:10

of stamping? Yeah, I

1:31:12

just heard that Stu was, you know, we

1:31:16

were taking, you know, look, the stars were coming

1:31:18

into WWE and Vince bought

1:31:20

out the territory and gave

1:31:23

Stu a check, you know, for basically for

1:31:25

taking the talent and you got

1:31:27

the TV and I have no idea, you know,

1:31:30

anything beyond that. We

1:31:33

should talk about, uh, Amarillo

1:31:35

Dory Funk, not junior, but

1:31:38

the daddy, Manny had Western state sports

1:31:40

and so many wrestlers that we've heard

1:31:42

of came out of West Texas. I

1:31:44

mean, my goodness. But what

1:31:46

can you tell us about Amarillo and Dory

1:31:48

style of booking? I mean, we know what

1:31:51

kind of weight may be that a guy

1:31:53

like Stu heart would carry in the community.

1:31:56

We know about some of the, uh,

1:31:58

consistent great wrestling. that we saw in Portland.

1:32:02

We know we can always count on the battle royals

1:32:05

and Roy Shire in San Francisco. What

1:32:08

about Dory Funk? What were some of his trademarks?

1:32:10

I know you grew up in the Texas area, so

1:32:12

this is one you're going to be very familiar with.

1:32:15

Well, Dory Funk senior was, you know,

1:32:18

looking partial. Yeah. Cause I grew

1:32:20

up as born in El Paso,

1:32:22

which was an Amarillo town. Um,

1:32:25

Amarillo ran Amarillo, Lubbock,

1:32:28

uh, Abilene. El Paso

1:32:31

ran some of, uh, New

1:32:33

Mexico, Albuquerque, Las Cruces.

1:32:37

Um, and then, you know,

1:32:39

every Canyon, every single town in between.

1:32:41

So they ran the Panhand, if

1:32:43

you will, West Texas and

1:32:47

Dory was

1:32:50

a brilliant, brilliant,

1:32:54

just great mind for the

1:32:56

business. He understood

1:32:58

psychology, uh, did

1:33:02

like, you know, a little bit of the

1:33:04

blood and guts. He was the king of

1:33:06

the Texas death matches, you know, in

1:33:09

the golf on a

1:33:11

tangent here, but don't, you know, the Texas death match way

1:33:13

used to be billed was could take two falls or 22

1:33:15

falls. The

1:33:17

match goes until one man can't continue. Yeah.

1:33:20

Yeah. You

1:33:24

have a fall and you have a, you know, one minute rest

1:33:26

period. And then you get the guy gets a 10 count.

1:33:29

If it's to the finish, it's to the finish. Just

1:33:32

beat them once. Um,

1:33:34

but anyway, that was always my pet

1:33:37

peeve Texas death match. Um,

1:33:39

but Dory was king of the Texas death match. They would

1:33:41

be a legend. Oh my God. I went 66 falls. Um,

1:33:48

but a lot of blood and things like

1:33:50

that. Dory was a really rough competitor,

1:33:52

but he rolled with an iron

1:33:55

fist and Dory book. And legend

1:33:57

has it again. This is

1:33:59

where history. depends on who's telling you

1:34:02

the history because I've heard

1:34:04

both. I've heard that Eddie

1:34:07

Graham, who

1:34:10

one of the greatest minds that the businesses

1:34:12

ever had as well and people credit

1:34:15

for so much in the business, that

1:34:18

Dory learned from Eddie Graham, but then I

1:34:20

also heard that Eddie Graham went

1:34:22

to Dory to learn from Dory. They

1:34:26

were contemporaries and they both

1:34:28

kind of took over things that's about the same

1:34:30

time, but the people in the

1:34:32

Eddie Graham camp

1:34:34

are gonna say Eddie Graham taught Dory. People

1:34:36

in the Dory camp are gonna say that

1:34:39

Eddie learned from Dory. So

1:34:42

they both had very similar styles.

1:34:44

They were both

1:34:47

good friends and ran

1:34:50

their territories very similar. Dory

1:34:54

senior who had come from Indiana originally

1:34:58

was involved in the Boys

1:35:00

Ranch and the Boys

1:35:02

Club in West Texas,

1:35:05

which then that's why

1:35:07

Eddie Graham got involved in the Boys

1:35:09

Club and everything in Florida. Their

1:35:13

career is very, very similar,

1:35:15

very similar stories. But

1:35:20

Dory, you know, ran,

1:35:22

he had his sons

1:35:26

as the baby faces and Dory and Terry, but

1:35:29

he just saw so much more for

1:35:31

them and wanted, you know,

1:35:34

wanted them to be world champion. Knew that

1:35:36

he would never be world champion, but

1:35:38

by God he had two offspring that

1:35:41

definitely could be world champions and he

1:35:43

petitioned hard for them

1:35:45

to be world champion. Specifically Dory

1:35:48

at the time because Dory was older

1:35:50

and had passed on since Terry

1:35:53

came, but Dory

1:35:55

ran the territory. He ran it. It was

1:35:58

his head. It was his ideas. He.

1:36:01

Had people like Ricky Romero

1:36:03

who was a. Baby

1:36:06

face of the territory as well. And.

1:36:08

Ricky would help out from time to

1:36:11

time with book. Ricky Romero was a

1:36:13

J. Young. Bloods. Dad. The

1:36:17

young blood. So it was. Able

1:36:21

he was bright guy but he

1:36:23

drew specially man from the hispanic

1:36:25

community. And. West Texas has

1:36:27

a heavies Hispanic community so Ricky

1:36:30

was always very prominent spot. Door.

1:36:33

He believed in heat. Man.

1:36:36

Door He was. Unbelievable

1:36:39

storyteller and. Would.

1:36:42

Pay attention to details. And.

1:36:45

Guys like the Inferno switch a

1:36:47

C. Dykes as their manager. Ah,

1:36:51

With. The Loaded Boot One of

1:36:53

the. Inferno Frankie Kane

1:36:55

who later became Grade Math is

1:36:57

So. Ah, Under Mask and

1:36:59

He and A Conflict. So is

1:37:01

one of his boots has built up. By.

1:37:04

About two inches or so. That probably

1:37:06

more now for about three or four

1:37:08

inches, but he would taxes toll. On

1:37:11

the map. To. Load the

1:37:13

boot right. And.

1:37:16

It's in the head instantly. Man, you're

1:37:18

bleeding like a stuck pig in. The.

1:37:21

Furnace gets or he just died senate.

1:37:24

And see. He. Would use

1:37:26

that seen as a weapon. You.

1:37:28

Do there was something in the canteen. other water

1:37:30

by. got. Ah, as

1:37:33

a. Is

1:37:35

her. Bat. A soft

1:37:37

so sorry for it in the first time

1:37:39

so he can imagine. The

1:37:42

back Thank you Sixty Eight Six Yeah, I

1:37:45

got a wrestling for the very first time now Paso,

1:37:48

Texas. Now we have

1:37:50

black and white television. Not. Every

1:37:52

had colored you color. Tv was. Like.

1:37:54

Really? Just. Beginning. To be a thing.

1:37:58

And. Television shows are. when they used

1:38:00

to advertise in

1:38:03

Technicolor. It's a big thing, man, if

1:38:05

a show was in color. We didn't have a

1:38:07

color TV. We just had black and

1:38:09

white. So all

1:38:11

I saw was wrestling in

1:38:13

black and white. Can you imagine as

1:38:16

a child going to

1:38:18

see wrestling for the first time, you see

1:38:20

the infernos who look like they were always

1:38:22

in gray masks and all of a sudden,

1:38:24

JC Dykes. The JC

1:38:26

Dykes had bright red

1:38:29

hair. I

1:38:31

was terrified because I'd never seen anybody with

1:38:33

hair that red. And

1:38:37

the infernos, their gear

1:38:39

was blue. And

1:38:42

then like Terry Funk and Ricky Romero come

1:38:44

in and they're wearing like red tights and

1:38:46

stuff. I was like, oh my God, everything

1:38:48

came to life. And

1:38:51

I don't know why I brought that up. It

1:38:53

was amazing. But

1:38:56

Dory, for the most part, Dory ran the

1:38:58

territory. Dory was the Booker. Dory

1:39:00

was also a conduit to Japan. That

1:39:03

man, you work in Amarillo and you

1:39:06

go over, work for Baba in Japan. Because

1:39:09

Dory had that connection. Dory

1:39:11

nurtured that connection. And Baba,

1:39:14

that's where Baba, when he

1:39:16

came to the States, he came and he worked in

1:39:18

Los Angeles. He also worked in the

1:39:20

Amarillo territory. As a young boy,

1:39:23

where, and I think Onoki did too, probably

1:39:26

during the same time, but they would work

1:39:28

in those territories to learn

1:39:31

how to work Western style. But

1:39:33

also you would have

1:39:36

the press cover it in Japan.

1:39:38

So when they came back to

1:39:40

Japan, they were mega stars because

1:39:42

they had, per

1:39:44

to the Japanese press, been

1:39:47

main eventers and mega stars in the United States

1:39:49

of America. Holy shit, can you believe this? And

1:39:52

Amarillo was a big place for that. Where

1:39:55

they would send the young talent they felt

1:39:57

had promise. Dory

1:40:01

ran it, Dory Senior ran it till 1973 when he

1:40:03

passed. The

1:40:07

kids took it over from there.

1:40:09

Dory was the world champions. So

1:40:12

Dory dropped the title in 1973. Dory

1:40:15

now is going to go, okay, man, I'll go

1:40:17

back to Amarillo after I do

1:40:19

my runs all around with Brisco. But

1:40:23

Dory ran it for a while and then Terry

1:40:28

drew his hand in there, but they sold

1:40:30

it to Blackjack Mulligan and

1:40:33

Dick Murdock. That's

1:40:36

where it just went awry. You

1:40:39

have Don

1:40:42

Slatton and Lubbock, I believe it was.

1:40:47

Everybody was just going wild. Murdock

1:40:51

and Mulligan did not know how

1:40:54

to run a business. That's

1:40:57

where it died. Because

1:41:01

people weren't getting paid.

1:41:03

They weren't. It

1:41:07

wasn't what it was at

1:41:09

one time. You have to understand that Dory Funk

1:41:11

Senior was at the

1:41:14

time in the 70s and late 60s. Probably

1:41:19

the most prominent influence

1:41:24

in the NWA. Sam

1:41:27

Mushnick was the president, Sam did, Sam's thing

1:41:29

and all that shit. But Dory

1:41:35

was probably the most

1:41:37

influential promoter and influential

1:41:39

mind in the National

1:41:41

Wrestling Alliance during that time. He

1:41:45

was able to get his son Dory

1:41:47

the championship. Some would say that

1:41:50

he was able to make

1:41:52

sure that Brisco did not beat

1:41:54

Dory for that championship. And

1:41:58

then he passed in 1970. 73 and

1:42:00

everything went, what do you believe on

1:42:03

that controversy? You

1:42:07

know, Briscoe's not listening. He

1:42:09

won't hear this, but definitely won't clip it

1:42:11

out and tag him on Twitter with it. No,

1:42:14

I mean, here's the thing.

1:42:16

I think that when

1:42:19

you go back and

1:42:22

look at everything and I've heard both

1:42:24

sides. Is that there

1:42:30

was no reason, no reason whatsoever, Dory

1:42:32

couldn't come back and drop that title.

1:42:34

Yeah. Right. And

1:42:37

there was, there was

1:42:40

somebody that somebody

1:42:42

made that decision. No

1:42:44

use Harley as a transition. Didn't

1:42:46

mean as much. This didn't

1:42:48

mean as much because we

1:42:50

had built up the funk Briscoe rivalry

1:42:54

and that match that

1:42:56

match for so long

1:42:58

in Houston, knowing the title was going to change.

1:43:02

Now as a kid, I didn't know the title

1:43:04

was going to change, but I knew that rivalry.

1:43:06

I wanted to see that match. I wanted it

1:43:10

and we didn't get it. So

1:43:16

I tend, you know, I think

1:43:18

regardless, you know, a lot of people

1:43:20

say, Oh, well, the, the, the accident was not even a

1:43:22

real accident. I don't know if it was or not. Don't

1:43:24

care. There's

1:43:27

still no reason whatsoever that

1:43:30

Dory couldn't have come and dropped

1:43:32

the title with Jack in Houston as promised.

1:43:34

Yeah. Dory

1:43:38

will tell you, well, it was the first screw job, you

1:43:40

know, it was that it was a fast count. Uh,

1:43:43

and that they took the title off of them in Kansas

1:43:45

city to give it to Harley and

1:43:47

that that wasn't the finish, blah, blah, blah. Hey, let me

1:43:49

ask you. I've heard that. I've heard that. Huh?

1:43:51

I've also heard, I mean, Terry

1:43:53

was Terry told

1:43:56

me himself that they were trying

1:43:58

to, I guess, This is maybe

1:44:00

more spin, but they

1:44:02

were trying to vouch

1:44:05

for Harley race because Harley didn't

1:44:07

look like the traditional NWA champion.

1:44:09

I guess there was a unwritten

1:44:12

rule once upon a time, silly

1:44:14

as the sounds, uh,

1:44:17

that that's not what a champion looks

1:44:19

like. And Jeff Jarrett and I've talked about it before

1:44:21

because he had heard that the

1:44:23

NWA champion couldn't wear long tights and,

1:44:26

and, and Terry said the NWA champion

1:44:28

couldn't have tattoos and

1:44:30

all that sort of stuff. And so by

1:44:32

doing it the way they did, Harley was able

1:44:35

to be in W a champion. And as we know,

1:44:37

wound up after that 57

1:44:39

day run, having multiple other runs. Had

1:44:42

you heard the whole, the NWA champion

1:44:44

has to wear a

1:44:46

certain look, man, they want to in person. And

1:44:48

he also had to be, also had to be

1:44:50

a legit tough guy. Yeah. Somebody that can handle

1:44:52

themselves. So they

1:44:54

like, you know, Lou Fes, who was

1:44:57

a hooker, you know, and, and Knessky

1:44:59

was this tough guy. Dory was a

1:45:01

legit amateur, um, Brisco, obviously,

1:45:03

you know, a guy that could handle

1:45:06

themselves, right? You know, Terry was

1:45:08

tough guy, Harley tough guy,

1:45:10

but yes, Harley did not fit.

1:45:13

The look when you're saying, okay, here's

1:45:16

our world champion, our world

1:45:18

champion didn't have a gun and

1:45:21

tattoos and looked like Harley looked. But

1:45:25

once you saw Harley work, you believed him.

1:45:27

Oh yeah. You know,

1:45:29

there was no, no doubt

1:45:31

about it, but Harley

1:45:34

had been another one of

1:45:36

those guys that was made in

1:45:39

Amarillo and made in that

1:45:41

territory by the funks. And

1:45:44

Harley was loyal to the funks. The folks were

1:45:46

loyal to Harley. So yes,

1:45:48

the, the folks were definitely trying

1:45:51

to get Harley into that because

1:45:53

they, they knew what a great worker Harley

1:45:55

was and

1:45:58

felt that, you know, he was a. guy

1:46:00

also that looked like he could

1:46:02

be beat. So

1:46:07

as a heel champion, which for

1:46:09

the most part back in the day,

1:46:12

the heel, the, the champion was always

1:46:14

portrayed as the heel. Right.

1:46:17

So you had your top baby face in

1:46:20

a spot to win the championship. They're booing

1:46:22

the champion. So Harley was

1:46:25

good for that, but that

1:46:27

was with anybody. Could've been anybody. Do

1:46:31

I think that Harley made a great

1:46:33

champion once Harley got established without a

1:46:36

doubt, I do think that Harley

1:46:38

was an awesome champion because

1:46:40

he was tough and he made

1:46:42

everybody that he worked with. He

1:46:46

made them first. And

1:46:48

so the, but

1:46:51

that's beside the point. I don't

1:46:53

think that it did Harley any

1:46:55

favors to win

1:46:57

the title and then drop into Jack that quickly

1:47:01

because it meant nothing. It's

1:47:04

time. The

1:47:06

rivalry was Dory and Jack.

1:47:10

And I tend, I tend

1:47:12

to believe, you know, business wise looking at

1:47:14

it, you know, however many

1:47:16

50 years, 60 years later, um, I

1:47:20

look at it as just

1:47:25

bad business. I don't

1:47:27

think that, um, I think

1:47:30

the swirl was in to, okay,

1:47:32

now we're gonna, we're gonna

1:47:35

switch it back and Paul, you're still gonna

1:47:37

get Houston still gonna get the title

1:47:39

switch still going

1:47:41

to, you're still gonna get it, but it'd

1:47:43

be with Harley if

1:47:47

Dory was able to work and go to Kansas city and

1:47:49

drop the title. He

1:47:51

was able to work and come to Houston. No

1:47:54

doubt. No doubt. Let's,

1:47:57

um, Why

1:48:00

do you think Terry and Dory decided to

1:48:02

sell the promotion? I

1:48:06

mean, were they just more interested

1:48:08

in pursuing their own careers? They liked the

1:48:10

lifestyle of a wrestler? They didn't wanna deal

1:48:12

with the pressure or the responsibility? Or why don't

1:48:14

you think one of them just picked

1:48:16

up where their dad left off? Because,

1:48:20

too much work? There you go. I think, you know,

1:48:22

look at it, man. You know, Terry

1:48:25

was gonna be the world champion. Um,

1:48:29

he was on the road, he loved working. I

1:48:31

don't think either one of them necessarily wanted

1:48:35

the business end of it at that time. I

1:48:38

think they were, you know, both

1:48:40

in a position of, let's,

1:48:47

let's go out and finish our runs. Right. And

1:48:51

then go from there. And

1:49:40

talk about another Texas territory, and another

1:49:42

multi-generation one as well. We talked about

1:49:44

Dory Funk, and then Dory Funk Jr.,

1:49:47

and Terry Funk. What about Joe Blanchard?

1:49:50

His son, Tully Blanchard, most of our listeners are

1:49:52

very familiar with. But Joe Blanchard, another fellow out

1:49:54

of Texas, as I understand

1:49:56

it. Joe and Fritz both got started

1:49:58

in stampede wrestling. that and he starts

1:50:01

running San Antonio and 78. And

1:50:04

I guess the biggest moment for this promotion happens in 1982,

1:50:06

but all of a

1:50:09

sudden San Antonio

1:50:11

has clearance on the USA

1:50:13

network. Yeah, that's right.

1:50:16

Same one that you've been watching Monday Night Raw

1:50:18

on forever. Before there was a

1:50:20

Tuesday night Titans or Monday Night Raw or any of

1:50:22

that. USA

1:50:24

wrestling or USA network

1:50:27

aired. Kelly Blanchard's father's

1:50:30

promotion out of San Antonio.

1:50:32

What a crazy little

1:50:34

footnote in history. That is when

1:50:37

do you first remember hearing about Joe Blanchard? Was

1:50:39

it from the magazines or did you see the

1:50:41

TV or? No, Joe was, Joe was a

1:50:45

journeyman wrestler. Um, Joe

1:50:47

was a guy that I, other than

1:50:49

maybe San Antonio, I don't even think

1:50:51

he was ever a

1:50:54

steady on top guy in San Antonio, but

1:50:56

he lived in San Antonio. Uh,

1:50:59

Joe was for Dallas

1:51:01

when he worked, you know, he would come

1:51:03

in, he would be in the opening match

1:51:05

or two, um, good

1:51:09

hand, but not

1:51:11

a lot of, not a lot

1:51:13

of color, not a lot of personality, um,

1:51:17

nice guy, super nice guy, but

1:51:21

you know, Joe, Joe wasn't a,

1:51:24

Joe wasn't a big star. We

1:51:27

lived in San Antonio. We got the San Antonio

1:51:29

promotion and he was promoting San

1:51:31

Antonio for the Dallas office

1:51:33

until whatever 78, he

1:51:36

started his own, he broke away

1:51:38

from the Dallas booking office

1:51:41

so that he was no longer using the

1:51:43

talent coming down to Dallas. Uh,

1:51:46

Joe did his own television show as did

1:51:48

Houston. And so they would do

1:51:50

their own thing and Joe thought, well, hell, I'd get

1:51:52

my own booker and I can do my own thing.

1:51:55

And I don't need Dallas anymore. He didn't, he

1:51:57

didn't like, look, nobody liked. Hey.

1:52:01

The. Booking office their ten percent fee or

1:52:03

whatever the hell was. See.

1:52:05

A Debate A Office first Bodies are gallon.

1:52:08

Or you pay to tell. So

1:52:11

Joe in like a concept I'm honored to

1:52:13

have his own. He felt that. San.

1:52:15

Antonio and everything south. That.

1:52:18

He was promoting should be his. And.

1:52:22

Broke away and the

1:52:24

first. Real. Booker.

1:52:28

That he had was one home again

1:52:30

you'll. And man

1:52:32

was who came in and was

1:52:35

hoo. Boy. He set.

1:52:39

A set that territory on fire. And

1:52:42

was when rivalry with only.

1:52:45

That. Man. It it

1:52:47

it made Talia name while because

1:52:50

before Tali was just. You

1:52:52

know, Tali Blanchard? The. The.

1:52:54

Promoter such. As a. And.

1:52:57

Is. Great of workers Tali. Was.

1:53:01

he was still have taken lot of

1:53:03

people's mind viewed as the promoter signs

1:53:05

baby face. Man. Or

1:53:08

a totally he'll. Water.

1:53:10

With one big a new man

1:53:12

was age. And

1:53:14

was your head? The.

1:53:17

Rich history. With.

1:53:19

So many of the top stars around

1:53:21

the country. The was who was able

1:53:23

as Booker. To. Bring in!

1:53:27

To Stop Stars in the San

1:53:29

Antonio They had never been seen

1:53:31

before. So. In.

1:53:34

Addition, You know the Fox

1:53:36

now. Are. No longer

1:53:39

young, Champions.

1:53:41

In the end of the way. The. Funks

1:53:43

and Fritzl get along. Someone brought function

1:53:45

because he always had a good relationship.

1:53:47

With. Was. Who

1:53:50

would bring in? you know, like

1:53:52

I have Brody from time to

1:53:54

time but who was who was

1:53:56

believe? That.

1:53:58

Area he has got case. The locally

1:54:00

made Scott a Top guy. On.

1:54:04

It was Channel Guerrero. Senior.

1:54:08

A Man in your may Chapo

1:54:10

a top got. It. Was

1:54:12

one who looked at one look

1:54:14

at the future. While.

1:54:17

Was always looking for any was one

1:54:19

of those guys that would give you

1:54:21

gonna bring you in this what we're

1:54:24

gonna do which. Gets

1:54:26

over man. we may do something more otherwise

1:54:28

we can face you out. but he was

1:54:30

always looking for the next. Car.

1:54:34

A Who's the next guy that I'm going

1:54:36

to be bringing in here? The

1:54:38

To make this work. Oh.

1:54:41

I'm. In law who brought

1:54:43

San Antonio the heights it in never

1:54:45

seen before. In in

1:54:47

the middle of all of that. Me:

1:54:52

In Houston, Paul has. Also.

1:54:55

Become disenfranchised with the zal spoken

1:54:57

office of the you become stale

1:54:59

and saw what was happening. With.

1:55:01

Southwest. All made

1:55:04

the call on and said hey. Ah,

1:55:07

they won't change booking office. And

1:55:10

met with Wahoo and met with

1:55:12

Blanchard in the deal was the

1:55:14

deal was really contingent on was.

1:55:18

Cause wasn't was the one that

1:55:20

was.
