Saints lost to Manchester United at St. Mary’s after holding a 2-0 lead going into halftime. It was the first loss since Spurs torched Saints’ high backline for 5 goals in September, bringing an end to an undefeated run that stretched 7 matches (5 wins and 2 draws).

On the day it was disappointing to lose, given the halftime scoreline. But, on the balance of play, I don’t think it was totally unfair. United were better for much of the match, and Cavani’s movement gave our defense a tough time.

Still, there’s plenty to celebrate, including yet another JWP free-kick that was all but perfect and the fact that if VAR wasn’t ruining football we’d be in the top 5.
