Speakeasy: Difficult Conversations

Speakeasy is an event series hosted by the College of Discovery, Creativity and Innovation at the University of Calgary that facilitates community-building with thought provoking discussion across the arts, humanities, business, science and engineering in order to foster discovery, creativity and innovation. 

On this podcast, our special host, Sagar Grewal (President of the Students Union at the University of Calgary, and member of the Prime Minister’s Youth Council) will join three special guests to discover how leaders across diverse fields can leverage the transformative potential of difficult conversations.

Together with the speakeasy audience at the University of Calgary’s Taylor institute for Teaching and Learning, they’ll explore how to transform difficult conversations into productive discussions to address global challenges.

This episode of Speakeasy brings together

• Astronaut, Robert Thirsk who has viewed Planet Earth from space more than any other Canadian, and whose insights promote a call to action for the common good of humanity and the planet itself.

• Scientist and cultural bridge-maker, Maribeth Murray, who works with Inuit partners and scientists to develop a mutual understanding of the needs for information to understand and adapt to a changing Arctic.

• Entrepreneur and social innovator, Lourdes Juan, who divides her time between the worlds of business and the not-for-profits, which are all deeply embedded in the Calgary community.
