In the early 1930’s, after suffering a pair of back-to-back box office flops, Alfred Hitchcock avows that it’s time for him to get back into his melodramatic wheelhouse.  He delivers the first of his many ‘proto-spy’ films involving a man or couple accidentally drawn into a shadowy world of foreign intrigue.
