The Tennessee Volunteers escaped Monday night with a season opening win against Georgia Tech, 42-41 in Double Overtime. Tennessee looks to have a much easier time as they open their home slate vs Indiana State later today. Toe meets leather at 4:00, and it will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Butch Jones Guarantees Volunteer Fans Will See Both Quarterbacks

In an interview earlier this week, Butch Jones admitted to wanting to play both Quarterbacks in this game. Quentin Dormady will start again, but Jarrett Guarantano is expected to see the field today as well. Dormady got all of the playing time last week vs Georgia Tech, and it came as a surprise to some. Some liked the idea of riding with one QB for the whole game, and others thought it’d be beneficial for both guys to play. Nonetheless, Dormady played the whole game, and Tennessee left Atlanta 1-0.

Defense?

Tennessee was gashed on the ground Monday night by the famed Triple Option Offense. TaQuon Marshall ran circles around the UT Defense and broke several GT records (In his first game, mind you). Darren Kirkland Jr. is gone, and Tennessee is going to have to have players step up (Looking at you, Colton Jumper). Daniel Bituli had a phenomenal game Monday night, leading the Vols in tackles. Darrell Taylor (also known as the WGWTFA guy), had a great game as well. Against Indiana State, you shouldn’t see many faults in the Tennessee defense.

If Florida doesn’t get something worked out by next week, you may not see any faults there, either (with their cancellation of the Northern Colorado game, Florida will still not have scored an offensive touchdown this year when they host Tennessee next week). Regardless, the defense is going to have to step up, or it is not gonna be a fun year.

Kelly and Callaway

John Kelly and Marquez Callaway were undoubtedly the two stars of Monday night. Expect them to have big games again today, and don’t be surprised if we get looks at guys like Ty Chandler, LaTrell Williams, Josh Palmer, and Carlin Fils-Aime, just to name a few. If all goes well, Tennessee should get some young guys some experience.

Tennessee should run away with this game. I’m going to say, 55-17.
