MIDI is a technical protocol that allows a variety of electronic devices to communicate with each other. In this context, RADC occasionally use MIDI to trigger lighting cues directly from specific moments in the soundtrack of their pieces.

Richard and Martin (mentioned a few times) are Richard Alston and Martin Lawrance, the Artistic and Rehearsal Directors of RADC.

DSM stands for Deputy Stage Manager. "Beginners" is typically used to describe the moment where the first performers are called to the wings or the stage, typically 5 minutes before the piece is to start.
