In this episode of the podcast Gavin is joined by Dinah Stark who is here to talk about her journey to reconnecting with herself after being too preoccupied with the corporate world and worrying too much about what others thought she should be doing. She shares how she meditates through yoga, but also how those who don’t feel comfortable with sitting still can achieve a deep connection with their inner child.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • In my late-20s I was questioning what love is, what I was doing with my life, why I’m here and I quit my job without anything to go on to. Something inside of my wanted to come out, but it felt big and scary. I took a year off and decided I want to open a café where you can read books, that sold vegan food and promoted coming together with music and talking. People tried to talk me out of it and the cycle started again in my 30s. I noticed it this time and decided to really find something I was interested in and to find my place.
  • Meditation with my inner child was a big thing for me, to really connect with this part of me, and to tune back into myself with meditation and yoga because I was a lot outside myself, in other people’s feelings and what other people thought about me, I wasn’t in contact with myself. Day-to-day practicing of these things is like training a muscle.
  • Some people find it hard to sit still and meditate so they find it easier to go for a walk or a drive or riding a bike. I was guided in my first inner child meditation, I met her face to face and she was so mad at me and screaming “what are you doing?! You are not in contact with nature, you loved nature as a kid, you wanted to save the ocean!”
  • Hearing about all the animals in the ocean dying from our trash helped me to be more aware of the trash I create and made me want to join the Zero Waste Movement. My whole lifestyle changed because I was questioning everything that I was using, including all the stuff I was put into my face, what I buy, where I buy it and what happens afterwards when I throw it away – there is no away, you have to be aware of what happens afterwards with that product.

BEST MOMENTS

‘I don’t feel awakened, I just feel myself being more awake, more aware, more questioning things, more feeling into things.’

‘There are many ways to meditate and connect with your inner self, there’s no one way for everyone. Some are easy and others are not so easy.’

‘I’d never had a moment before where I’d really loved myself. I was crying, I was so touched by that feeling.’

‘I felt like I can do anything, I don’t know how to do it but I do it and it just works.’

ABOUT THE GUEST

Dinah Stark had what most people would consider a good job in a big company, earning good money, but she wasn’t happy. She started seeing a psychologist and by getting this heal and getting to know herself she decided to get in contact to her inner child again and turned her back on what others expected her to do and follow her path to starting her own zero waste, vegan friendly café/shop.

ABOUT THE HOST

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
