Promise #12: I will suddenly realize that God is doing for me what I could not do for myself.

So my friends, I think of this promise in terms of what we used to say in the Bronx when I was a kid, a no-brainer. No, I am not trying to be condescending at all. I suppose that some of you who have not chosen to use this 12-step program in its truest sense with its truest core values, well, you may not fully understand this promise. For those of you who have fully surrendered in the first three steps; for those of you who have said the Almighty “yes” to God; and for those of you who have not fully grasped the meaning of the first three steps, well, this promise may seem meaningless to you.

I guess I feel like I want to do a sales pitch now, mostly because I am so aware of how this program has changed my life. I know the painful difference of doing this program as a psychological exercise versus doing it as a God centered changing of my way of life. I truly wish I had the words that by writing them or saying them I would know they would change your life immediately. I wish I had the words to help you see the beautiful freedom and rewards that are result of our absolute surrender. Alas, I do not. All I can ask that you is to give this program a try for yourself. Try, no matter what your problems have been in the past and no matter what baggage you seem to be carrying with you now, to give God another chance. I believe you will find the truth in this promise, that God will do for you what you have not able to do for yourself. You will receive a sanity in your life such as you never could have imagined.
