This episode is about Promise number #3. Promise #3 is:

I will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.

As you may know, I have written before about us becoming a “tabula rasa” in order to accept new powers and new thoughts that arrive from our Spirit. Becoming tabula rasa however, does not mean that all of our old experiences are gone. It means that I’m freeing my life from the past and making a new place receive direction from my Spirit. This is a result of the third step. This is a result of my surrender of my physical self to the will of God. This means I have thrown out the bathwater but certainly have kept the baby. That baby is my new way of life. We, as that baby, are ready to develop our spiritual personality. I will take the liberty to call it my spiritual id, my spiritual ego, and my spiritual superego.

My spiritual id is providing the basic needs of my Spirit. In the spiritual sense, my basic needs are no more or less than God’s love. Likewise, my spiritual superego is that which is the authority for my spiritual personality. As is said in the literature, that one is God, may you find him now.

Now we are left with our spiritual ego.

As you may know, my view of the human ego is that it wants to do whatever it can to protect us. Whether or not it’s actions may be interpreted as good or bad, seems to make no difference. It simply does whatever it can in order to keep our physical self in a good light. Our spiritual ego, however, does it best to keep us aligned with the will of God.

I think it is important to remember that our spiritual ego is not our human, physical ego trying to manipulate our spiritual being. That, of course, certainly happens. This would be like being involved in some spiritual/religious setting and the human personality doing whatever to make the person look good spiritually. However, our spiritual ego wants only to help us in dedicating our will and our lives to God’s standard.

Once I have completed the action steps, and as long as I have been honest in looking at and dealing with my old life, I realize that all things in the past are forgiven by God. It leaves me with, as the promise as, nothing to regret. However, I never want to forget my past experiences because they may help me to help others. It is this potential for loving our

fellow sufferers that this 3rd Promise indicates.
