Joycelyn (Joyce) Johnson is an African-American licensed professional counselor in Cincinnati, Ohio.  She is the owner of True Calling Counseling & Consulting Services, LLC.  After 25 years of working for the Procter & Gamble Corporation, she decided to retire and go back to school full-time to get her Masters in Professional Counseling. Joyce has personally dealt with anxiety, depression, and PTSD which motivated her to study mental health counseling.  After receiving her Masters, she opened her own mental health private practice, so that she could begin to more intentionally help people of color (and others) with their own mental health issues.  This is her second career, but it is more than that – this is her TRUE CALLING. Her childhood was filled with abuse – sexual, physical, verbal & emotional – which left some very deep wounds that she covered with excelling in school.  She received an engineering degree from the University of Illinois @Urbana/Champaign in 1990.  More importantly, the childhood abuse left Joyce with the inability to connect with people on any real level because of the shame, guilt, fear, and anger that she felt toward the world.Joyce believes that all of the trauma that she experienced and the awareness & insights that she has gained on her own personal mental health journey - gives her the ability to better connect with people of color, specifically, and others who have experienced trauma to assist them in their unique personal journey toward healing. Joyce identifies as a Christian, African-American, woman, mother, divorcee, former Corporate employee, sister, daughter, and friend which highlights the areas of growth and development in her continuing journey toward wholeness. The one message that she would like everyone to know is to not allow the stigma of seeking help for mental health related issues to prevent you from living your best life.  YOU MATTER!!!  YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!!!For more information: www.stigmatizedpodcast.com
