1:35
Enjoy the episode! Once
1:39
upon a time, there was a little
1:41
girl named Marcella, but everyone called her
1:43
Marcy. She spent a
1:45
lot of time at grandma's and loved to
1:47
play up in the attic at grandma's old
1:50
quaint house, way out in the country, because
1:52
there were so many old forgotten things to
1:54
find up there. One
1:56
day, when Marcy was up in the attic and had played with the old spinny toy,
1:58
she saw a little girl who looked like Marcella. find
4:00
Shoe-Button Eyes and with them you can see
4:02
all the changes that happened while you have
4:04
been shut up so long in the attic.
4:07
Raggedy Anne, you have a new playmate now
4:09
and I hope you both have as much
4:11
happiness together as you and I used to
4:13
have. Then
4:16
Grandma gave Raggedy Anne to Marcy
4:18
saying very seriously, Marcy, let
4:20
me introduce my very dear
4:22
friend Raggedy Anne. Raggedy,
4:25
this is my granddaughter Marcy.
4:28
Then Grandma gave the doll a twitch with her fingers
4:31
in such a way that the rag doll nodded her
4:33
head to Marcy. Oh
4:35
Grandma, thank you so much. Marcy
4:38
cried as she gave Grandma a big hug and
4:40
kiss. Raggedy Anne and I
4:42
are going to have a ton of fun.
4:46
And this is how Raggedy Anne joined the doll
4:49
family at Marcy's house where she was far
4:51
from the first. Marcy
4:53
had a whole little family of dolls and she
4:55
would sit them at a little table in her
4:57
room and have tea parties. Raggedy
5:00
Anne sit right in and she was
5:02
soon best friends with Babette, a doll
5:04
Marcy's mother had brought back from France,
5:07
and Jo, a soldier action figure that
5:09
had been borrowed from a cousin. One
5:13
day in the middle of a party, Marcy
5:15
was called away by her mother to go
5:17
run errands. Okay,
5:20
she said, you all behave. I'll
5:22
be back soon. She
5:24
closed the door and the dolls were
5:26
left all to themselves. And
5:30
there they sat and never even so
5:32
much as wiggle the finger until they
5:34
were sure that Marcy had left the
5:36
room. Then
5:38
the soldier turned his head and solemnly
5:40
winked at Raggedy Anne. And
5:43
when the front door clicked and the dolls knew
5:45
they were alone in the house, they all scrambled
5:47
to their feet. Alone
5:50
at last. Now let's have
5:52
a good time, cried Jo. Let's
5:55
all go in search of something to eat. Yes,
5:58
let's all go in search of... something to eat,"
6:00
cried all the other dolls. When
6:03
Marcy had me out playing with her this
6:05
morning, said Raggedy Anne, she carried me by
6:07
a door near the back of the house
6:10
and I smelled something delicious. Then
6:13
you lead the way, Raggedy Anne, said
6:15
Babette. I think
6:17
it would be a good plan to elect Raggedy
6:19
Anne as our leader on this expedition, Jo
6:22
said. At this,
6:24
all the other dolls clapped their hands
6:26
together and shouted. Hurrah!
6:28
Raggedy Anne will be our leader! So
6:32
Raggedy Anne, very proud indeed to have
6:34
the confidence and love of all the
6:36
other dolls, said that she would
6:38
be very glad to be their leader. Follow
6:41
me! she cried as her wobbly
6:44
legs carried her across the floor at a
6:46
lively pace. The
6:49
other dolls followed, racing about the
6:51
house until they came to the
6:53
pantry door. This is the place!
6:56
cried Raggedy Anne. And sure
6:58
enough, all the dolls smelled something
7:00
delicious. Inside the
7:02
pantry, there was fruit and chocolate
7:05
and potato chips and all kinds
7:07
of snacks, but they quickly realized
7:09
none of the dolls were tall enough to
7:11
open the door. The
7:13
dolls were talking and pulling and pushing and
7:15
every once in a while, one would fall
7:17
over and the others would step on her
7:20
in their efforts to open the door. Finally,
7:23
Raggedy Anne drew away from the others
7:25
and sat down on the floor. When
7:29
the other dolls discovered Raggedy Anne sitting
7:31
there, running her rag hands through her
7:34
yarn hair, they knew she was thinking.
7:39
They said to each other, quietly went over
7:41
near Raggedy Anne and sat down in front
7:43
of her, so as not to disturb her
7:45
deep thoughts. There
7:48
must be a way to get inside,
7:50
said Raggedy Anne. Raggedy
7:52
says there must be a way to get inside, cried
7:54
all the dolls. I
7:57
can't seem to think clearly today, said Raggedy
7:59
Anne. It feels as if my head
8:01
were ripped." At
8:03
this, Babette ran to Raggedy Anne and took
8:05
off her bonnet. Yes,
8:08
there is a rip in your head, Raggedy,
8:10
but I think I can fix it, she
8:12
said, and pulled a pin from
8:14
her skirt and pinned up Raggedy's head. It's
8:17
not a very neat job, but I think it'll
8:19
work, she said. Oh, but
8:23
that's so much better, cried
8:25
Raggedy Anne. Now I
8:27
can think quite clearly. Now
8:30
Raggedy can think quite clearly, cried all the
8:32
dolls. My thoughts must
8:34
have leaked out of the rip before, said
8:36
Raggedy Anne. They must have leaked
8:38
out before, cried all the other dolls. Now
8:41
that I can think so clearly, said
8:43
Raggedy Anne, I think the
8:45
door must be locked, and to get in,
8:47
we must unlock it. Oh,
8:50
that'll be easy, said a Dutch doll who
8:52
said mama when he was tipped up and
8:54
down. We will have the
8:57
brave soldier shoot the lock out of the door. Oh,
9:00
I can easily do that, cried Joe. Everyone
9:03
stand back, stand back. Oh,
9:07
Raggedy Anne, cried Babette, please do
9:09
not let him shoot. She's
9:13
right, don't shoot, said Raggedy
9:15
Anne. We must think of a quieter way.
9:19
After thinking quite hard for a moment,
9:21
Raggedy Anne jumped up and said, I
9:24
have it. And she caught up
9:26
a teacher doll and said, let me borrow
9:28
your ruler. Raggedy
9:31
took the ruler and used it to reach up
9:33
to the door handle and trip the lock. Then
9:36
the dolls all pushed and the
9:38
door swung open. My
9:42
such a scramble, the dolls piled over
9:44
one another in their desire to be
9:46
the first at the goodies. They
9:49
swarmed upon the pantry shelves and
9:51
in their eagerness spilled a pitcher
9:53
of cream which ran all over
9:55
Babette's dress. The
9:57
soldier doll found some cornbread and dipping it in the
10:00
honey, he sat down for a good
10:02
feast. A jar
10:04
of raspberry jam rolled out and the
10:06
dolls ate of this until their faces
10:08
were all purple. The
10:10
soldier ate so much he fell from the shelf
10:12
three times and bent one of his legs, but
10:15
he scrambled right back up again. Never
10:19
had the dolls had so much fun and
10:21
excitement and they had all eaten their fill
10:23
when they heard the click of the front
10:25
gate. Marcy was back.
10:29
They did not take time to climb from
10:31
the shelves, but all rolled or jumped off
10:33
to the floor and scrambled back to their
10:36
room as fast as they could run, leaving
10:38
a trail of breadcrumbs and jam along the
10:40
way. Just
10:42
as Marcy came into the room, the dolls
10:44
dropped in whatever positions they happened to be
10:47
in, not quite making it back to their
10:49
chairs. This
10:51
is strange, cried Marcy. They
10:54
were all left sitting in their places around the
10:56
room. I wonder if Fido has
10:58
been shaking them up. Then
11:01
she saw Raggedy Anne's face and picked her up. Why
11:04
Raggedy Anne, you are all sticky. I do
11:08
believe you are covered with jam. And
11:11
Marcy tasted Raggedy Anne's hand. Yes,
11:14
it's jam. Shame on you, Raggedy
11:16
Anne. You've been in the pantry and
11:18
all the others too. You're all filthy.
11:21
And with this,
11:23
Marcy dropped Raggedy Anne on the floor
11:25
and left the room. When
11:28
she came back, she had on an apron and
11:30
her sleeves were rolled up. Get
11:33
ready now, she declared in her
11:35
best mom voice. It's time
11:37
for your bath. She
11:40
picked up all the sticky dolls and
11:43
putting them in a basket, she carried
11:45
them out under the apple tree in
11:47
the garden. There she had placed her
11:49
little bucket bathtub and she took the dolls one
11:51
at a time and scrubbed them with a scrubbing
11:54
brush and dunked them up and down and this
11:56
way and that in the soap suds until they
11:58
were clean. first
14:00
and never tried to sneak and steal.
14:04
Let us all remember, chimed all the
14:06
other dolls. And Raggedy
14:08
Ann, with a merry twinkle in her shoe-button
14:10
eyes, lay back in her little
14:12
bed, her cotton head filled with thoughts of
14:15
love and happiness, and
14:17
drifted off into a sweet and gentle
14:19
sleep. The
