I saw an opportunity to see a master businessman at work creating at the highest level1 . Floyd Mayweather understands 'the game'. (2:06)- He's a master student of the game of boxing. - He's religious with his continual improvement.- He learns from mistakes and applies that knowledge going forward. 2. Mayweather capitalizes on available opportunities. (5:00)- Manny Pacquiao, Conor McGregor and their differences.- Pushing the surrounding hype to a fever pitch. - Using crossover appeal from the UFC to increase buys beyond what boxing would allow.(6.5 million buys vs 4.6 million buys)3. Floyd creates new opportunies. (10:33) - He has a legitimate claim on GOAT, and can use that 50-0 status to sell everything from merchandise to books, appearances and more. - He has solidified Mayweather Promotions for the next crop of boxers to believe in.- He was never going to lose this fight (difference in fighting styles, experience, etc.) so he found a draw that he could outmaneuver while giving the appearance of it being a contest.4. He asserts ownership. (13:50)- He structured the fight to not only earn the most (upwards of $200 million) but tip the scales in case things didn't go his way (fists only rule). - He's paid through Mayweather Promotions, meaning he's leveraging tax breaks to keep more of his purse.- Every fight on the card has a fighter under Mayweather Promotions, meaning he gets paid of every fight, not just his own.5. Floyd Mayweather knows when to move on. (16:40) - He knew he wanted to erase nearly all doubt on his reign being one of the greatest and he did that in every stat that matters. (biggest draw, biggest purses and most wins)- He knows soon he'll lose a step or two and bowed out before a younger athlete could undo his legacy.- With boxing in a downturn, it would be harder to draw a spectacle of this size again in the immediate future.
