We look at the current Manchester City Manager, Pep Guardiolo. Specifically we want to look a little closer to what makes him one of the monder football world’s most successful managers and how in my opinion you can apply this to your business.
Let's take a journey through Josep Guardiola Sala or as he is affectionately known as Pep’s master tactician mindset and investigate it for our business.

He is in charge of decisions directly affecting his team. And when he makes them, it is with conviction and bravery. He recognises when things are not perfect, but is willing to deal with mistakes later.

We, in business, need to be in charge of our decisions. The same way we have to empower our staff to make decisions, we have to be empowered to consider what is impacting our team and what decisions have to be taken.

During the decision making process, it is important to be brave and courageous. Sometimes saying no to a deal because it will be bad for the business in the long term is better than accepting a deal now and not being able to deliver. Be brave -be bold!

We need to understand our teams on an emotional level. Pep is aware that his players are humans. And in sport things do not always go to plan. Sometimes we screw up.

In business the same. We can have the best strategy, staff, ideas, the perfect systems and we can start rolling it out and BOOM - failure. However, it is how we react that is key,.

Another aspect of Pep’s management is during training where he pushes his team. He wants to know what they are capable of, whether they understand it and for the team to at all times give their all. There is nothing wrong with you pushing your team. Your team has to understand the company’s goals, and the path to achieving the goals.

Be Innovative. I always repeat to my team, that if we keep doing things the same way, eventually we will have no business. If you do not innovate you will eventually not have a business.

Pep is brave and bold in his innovation of football. There are many tactic shows you can watch on how he has transformed football teams. Take a similar approach in your business. Everything can be changed - systems, processes, deliveries, methods and much much more. Look and investigate at what is not optimised, then establish a strategy to optimise and roll it out.

Finally, if you employ people that are better than you at specific tasks, you will have an incredibly strong team. As a business leader, you do not have to be the best marketer, or the best designer, or best accountant, or best driver,  - you just need to be able to identify the best talent - and then employ the talent.
