Last year, my dad showed me a box that I had never seen before. Until that moment, I knew nothing of it’s existence. At the time, he also gave me a set of verbal instructions with it. The whole thing was so unexpected that I mostly forgot the specifics of the instructions. So, I made this piece partly as a record of the instructions, but also because I had a lot of questions that I didn’t ask in the moment. It was a glimpse into so many different versions of him that I loved getting to see. Immediately I began to wonder if this act of sharing a past self with your child is something other people have experienced?
