On a special episode of SuggeStory, I decided not to walk you through my creative process of turning a sentence into a story, but rather my creative process of turning a story into a screenplay. If you weren't aware, I wrote a screenplay for a Christmas horror film called Sick For Toys which was released in September 2018. The story was pitched to me in a bedroom I was renting out in someone's home in the hills of Studio City in Los Angeles. From there, I created characters, structure, story beats, character moments, motivations, subtext, and more. On this episode, I'll talk you through all of it.
If you haven't seen Sick For Toys, make sure you watch it before you listen because I definitely spoil the film. Unless, of course, you don't care about spoilers...
I'll be back to my usual episode structure next week, but I'll probably experiment with episodes like this from time to time. Let me know what you thought of this episode and if you'd like to see more episodes like it in the future (like maybe one about "Road Head"?) at [email protected]! And as always, don't forget to leave a 5-star review, it helps new listeners find the podcast and helps me with visibility :)
New Episodes weekly on Saturdays.
